    Bought my first Speedmaster in 1994, a 25 years Apollo 11, it came with a clear caseback !
    It ran from July 1994 to June 2016 as a daily beater before it needed a service, after 22 years ! #MoonwatchUniverse

    Fantastic video. This is a no-brainer mod, it’s not like you can’t put it back to stock as if nothing ever happened. If I had this watch I’d definitely put on the display back. I’m also really pleased that cleaning and oiling the stem worked for you. Above all you’re a great bloke and clearly love that watch, so anything that increases your pleasure of ownership is wonderful to see. Love your channel, Andy, as a fellow Brit - all power to you!

    Great mod!!! Looks amazing!!!! I wish I can do that to my 1861 Speedy. Unfortunately I walk through metal detectors and walk through mainframe/servers every other day at work. It's easy to get my watch magnetized without the movement shield. Since I bought my Speedy in 2018 it runs spot on. Pretty accurate, doesn't lose, or gain time. Just as long as I wind it every 40 hours or so. It would be nice to buy the 3861 hesalite and put a clear caseback.

      Got a Spiralwinder caseback for a 3861. It's so good, highly recommended.

    A job not only well done but well explained Andy. I think it looks great but then I'm a tad biased as I have the old 1863. A nice suggestion for fixing a stiff winder seemed to do the job just fine.

    Thank you.
    I have been lubing the winding stems with silicone grease from the outside as I haven't opened the caseback on most of my watches. I get a toothpick and carefully put it on the open stem and move it in and out. The lube will be pulled inside by suction.

    I love the Apollo XI with the extra finishing of the 863 on show, so I wasn't sure how it would look with the 3861 on show. Turns out it looks fantastic. Very impressed with the result Andy.

    Did the same with my hesalite 3861 and it's an amazing mod. I also snagged the lumed ceramic bezel, which makes it even more interesting.

    Such a handsome watch and a great fix if you don't want to own two. I've been tempted for a while to add a Hesalite to my 3861 sapphire. I think though going more vintage might be the answer.

    Andy I’m now inclined to follow suit! Like yourself though, I like keeping it original. But aesthetically this looks bloody great! I have swapped the bracelet out though for a dark leather rally strap which looked so good! But a couple of years ago I stumbled upon an original issue Omega astronaut NATO/velcro strap, which it currently has!👍🏼😎🇦🇺

    I did this modification and am delighted. The only minor issue is my 1861 speedie has a nylon gear lever in the middle of the case. Come on Omega.

    • @kdwh
      @kdwh 3 месяца назад

      i am under the impression that the nylon part actually does job better than the metal counterpart in a utilitarian view compared to the metal counterpart in the 1863

    Andy, I note you didn’t use the gasket that was supplied with the Spiralwinder caseback. Is the diameter of the one they supplied smaller than your OEM caseback gasket? I thought the Spiralwinder supplied gasket was meant to go inside the watch case as a spacer to provide friction between the movement and the new caseback. Might be worth you just checking this…

    • @TheEnglishWatch
      @TheEnglishWatch  4 месяца назад

      I’ll check the diameter of both. They looked the same by eye, but thanks for the heads up.

      @@TheEnglishWatchwas going to email you but couldn’t find a way to do so. If you search on Omega Forums for a thread called “Aftermarket Exhibition Caseback” and then scroll forward to the bottom of page 9 and page 10 there is a better explanation of what the extra gasket is for.

    Hey, so I am very tempted to do this but I heard that you when put the new case back on something with the rubber gaskets has to be perfectly lined up in order to ensure water resistance. Can you confirm if that is true or if you heard anything similar? In your video it looked as if you just spun it right on there. Fantastic video like always, cheers from the US!

    • @TheEnglishWatch
      @TheEnglishWatch  4 месяца назад +1

      The instructions don’t call for anything specific to align parts. I greased the gasket and snugged down. As I don’t intend to take it swimming, I’ll take my chances.

    Your point about it no longer being protected from magnetism made me think. Does this mean the official 1863 is more susceptible to magnetism than the 1861 with the magnetic shield?

    • @TheEnglishWatch
      @TheEnglishWatch  4 месяца назад

      Not sure. Only the new 3861 calibre is anti-magnetic. These old movements not so. I guess the closed case back version with hesalite is the tool watch and the open case sapphire glass less so.
