From the USA here - Cartier is on GOD Tier of all other watches. My next piece will be a Santos w/white dial. Sill debating on the medium or large w/date. IMHO, the green/blue dials can be challanging to read.
From the USA as well. I bought the midsize white dial a few weeks ago. While I was there I saw the blue and green dials and they are difficult to read as you said and believe it may go out of style and difficult to dress for. I tried the large and immediately thought it WAY too big on my 7.5 inch wrist. Stick with the medium if you are in that range.
@@david12990 David, thanks for the heads up. I have a 7 inch wrist. And although I would more than likely lean towards the medium, I like the date on the large.
The thing is you won’t actually be using the watch to tell the time. As he mentioned, why even bother setting the time, who cares?! Most people don’t use their luxury watch to tell the time, that’s what your phone is for
my first "luxury"watch was a Tank Americaine, I bought it with my first proper work bonus in 2006. I have bought many watches since, but I still have it and it's by far the most elegant watch I own. Cartier design is classic, and few compete in terms of looks, their movements may not be much, but design wise they are hard to beat.
I love this watch so much I was actually looking for fresh video on RUclips and saw you made this literally a few days ago. I first tried on this watch whilst on holiday in Venice and I fell in love with the watch and the idea of it tax-free too. Tried on the green in Canary Wharf and that was cool but I prefer the blue for sure.
That was a great review, thanks. The Santos is a very styled and detailed watch but done with such art that there's no "Oh for goodness sake" about it and it fits into your collection really well. I like too that you pronounce Omega correctly.
I do like the blue but I have a blue dial DJ which will have a similar role and my achievable Grail is the green GO panomaticlunar so I'd go for the traditional white dial . Lovely watch on my to buy list
I recently got the two toned version. 35mm wears like a 40mm. I was shocked how comparable it was to my Tag Heuer F1 in terms of wrist presence. I’m not used to square shaped watches. This one will fool many people. On paper it says 35mm but the wrist presence is substantial.
Andy, cool piece and it looks great on your wrist. I generally go for 40-43.5mm but I agree with you, the large model just looks like a beer mat had been strapped to my wrist 😂😂. I’m thinking of the green medium, did you have a chance to see the green in the flesh?
Great watch. All my watches are automatic so I’d like a quartz and the Santos Dumont is top of my list. Large model is £4K which is a bargain by most luxury watch standards
I have an 8 inch wrist so 35mm is too small for me but I do have the large green one and I love it, so versatile, it comes with bracelet, leather strap and I bought the Cartier rubber strap with the screws (on my wrist at the moment), it could be a one watch collection but where is the fun in that, right? ;)
@@TheEnglishWatchI think it’s the tampered crystal that creates glare on the watch face that’s the bigger problem with illegibility. But as you said, who cares?!
It’s quite harmless and used in all modern watches with luminous markers. Radium was used a long time ago that was radioactive, but nothing to worry about these days.
Does anyone know if there's any value to keeping the yellow and clear stickers on the underside of the watch? They're a bit of an eye sore but I might be willing to keep them if they increase the value by a few hundred £. As a fellow owner of this exact model I have to agree that it's an absolute beauty that is both industrial and elegant at the same time. For those wondering whether the blue dial is too garish, it is not at all in person and actually has more of a silvery/dark grey hue because of the silver numerals and polished case. The blue santos in a large, however, is garish and not my cup of tea.
If it’s not charity I personally don’t want to make a next man rich off my hard earned money. For that reason if it’s not from an AD I won’t buy a Rolex, I stick to Cartier and omega. I love both my watches. Yet to buy a Rolex but like I said the watch dealers can F off.
It’s a classy piece. Tad too small imho but nice. Your collection is looking impressive indeed (albeit a little blue & dress heavy if I had to be picky) Happy Easter & all the best.
Cartier should produce the ML size 😅 as in 38 mm x 43.3 mm with 20 mm lug width. It will feel and look like a 39-40 mm round watch, a goldilocks size in my book. Thanks for the vid, man.
I think you made this video with me in mind Andy. I am on the very cusp of acquiring a white dial, medium Santos and you very much tipped me over the balance. I just need to liquidate my Explorer 36 to free up some funds and I'll be on my way to the AD. By the way, is there any negotiation on the table with Cartier? Or is it a no-no like Rolex? Beautiful piece buddy, utter class. Ash
Good choice Ash. Cartier is a little tight on the negotiation, but I’m sure a good relationship will yield a good price and experience. Glad to see you venture away from the mighty Rolex and look forward to your thoughts.
Hello sir, as a first ever real watch, i am stuck in indecision a bit. I will buy more in the future, but for now, One of these: JLC monoface tribute in Burgundy, this Cartier in white, or Glashütte Original pano lunar in white. I wear dress jackets 6-7 days per week. Weird day today. Both yourself and Gringa have gone down the 'Sponsored Video' route. I watch Fred at B1M. He pushes some art investment thing......... yet does not invest in it personally!
I bought a medium santos brand new from an AD not too long ago and I bought it for £500 more than second hand price. Must be crazy to try save £500 and get second hand. Ps the price of these are just going to go up and up in the near future as everyone has had enough of paying absurd prices for Rolex in the second hand market. End of April Cartier will increase their price by 10% as they have last year and the year before. They are catching on the fact that their watch models are the next best thing after a Rolex.
@@SaintWill70smaller watches aren’t really a trend that is coming back. It is the other way around that the hideous trend of large watches from the two thousands is finally leaving. Style is very personal and subjective. But if you aren’t quite so insecure and afraid of what other people think, I think most people will recognise that a proportionate watch to the wrist size looks a hundred times more aesthetic than everybody wearing a 41mm watch. Larger people can certainly pull it off, but there is nothing that looks more embarrassing than a guy with a 6 inch wrist wearing a 41mm watch. But hey man, if you lack confidence you do you.
@@SaintWill70I am no member or repeated visitor of any watch forum or community. I am not too familiar with what the current trend in that community is. My main point is that watches and good watch design is about proportion. A 36mm watch in it’s proportions (thickness, size of the dial, lug length and width) can look far more aesthetic on any size of wrist, than a larger more contemporarily sized watch, that is ill proportioned. What I think is weird about your original comment is that you seem to think that you have risen above a certain size of watch (on paper disregarding shape and proportion), only because it seems to have become mainstream. The cartier santos design looks better in 35mm. And you seem to think a lot about if you are perceived as masculine or feminine.
I tried on a green dial last year, agree that legibility isn't to my liking. I find if the light doesn't catch it just right, the Roman numerals can disappear at certain angles and the green turns black.
There is no such thing as a Mid Size Gents watch. Sizing and gender need to be separated at this point IMO. Back in the good old days 'Mid Size' was what Rolex called watches 'Gents' bought for their sons ; )
Beautiful watch. My next one but in the white dial. Perfect size.
I've been thinking about this watch for some time, this review was just what i was looking for. Thank you, Andy
Charming watch. Very stylish and instantly recognisable from across a room. Cartier is certainly one id look at adding. Great review

Noticed the shift of sport timepieces to something smaller, elegant in the watch community.

I only just tried on the large two tone version today at the goldsmiths. Stunning!

In your opinion, is the dial difficult to read because of the color?
No. It’s the square nature rather than the colour. All part of the charm.
