What do you want to know from my more complete comparison?
So far I'm thinking of highlighting differences in:
- Case Construction
- Internal Construction
- Keycap profiles
- Sound (repeated for completeness)
- Connectivity modes (+ maybe range?)
- Battery life? (I wouldn't expect differences here, so not sure if it's necessary)
What else would you want to know?
V1 Max seems to be slimmer (height) than Q1 Max, does that affect your typing experience assuming using the same keycap profile?
@yjlin5210 Q1 is a bit more angled, but they start at a similar edge height - big difference typing because the KSA Q1 keycaps are a lot taller and more sculpted as well.
For convenience:
V1 Jupiter Red: 0:50
V1 Jupiter Brown: 1:11
V1 Jupiter Banana: 1:25
Q1 Jupiter Red: 1:39
Q1 Jupiter Brown: 1:53
Q1 Jupiter Banana: 2:07
If the V1 Max with the knob had an End key I’d probably order it. Seriously, I don’t get it: Home without End.
They just released the V3 max I instantly ordered it
@@sebsg What a coincidence; me too. :)
You can customise it and change one of the the pg key to end. Not that difficult
@@diggi5890Page Up without a Page Down? what madness is this?
@@matunos Can't you remap the knob?
I feel like these keyboard could sound better for their price, in my opinion and compare to some other cheaper brands they sound way too plasticky and loud.
02:34 - V1 Max Jupiter Brown
02:46 - V1 Max Jupiter Banana
just got my V1 max with 🍌switches today. it’s my first mechanical keyboard and it feels ideal.
Great choice 👍
Thank you! Just ordered the Q1 Max with Jupiter Banana. Love that sound and resistance. Appreciate your efforts and video as it helped me make decisions. Thanks again.
Awesome! Very exciting. I’m glad the video was helpful 👍
no offense but all sound the same to me no matter the switch and the model
Jupiter Browns on the Q1 sound mint.
It's hard for me to tell from this but which would you consider to be on the "creamier" side?
Did you notice that the v5 max has a slightly different layout than the q5 max? I'm a cheapskate, so i think I'm going to get the v5 max, but I do like the layout of the q5 max slightly better.
I prefer the Q1 MAX because the V1 thocks the space bar. I like the sound of the Jupiter browns, which is interestingly opposite of your opinion.
I agree about the spacebar - totally better on the Q1. The browns are nice, I just like the reds for their quietness and the bananas for their feel - they are quite clicky.
Great video! Originally I was going to order the V1 as it’s going to be my first mechanical keyboard but once I saw it was wired I decided against. Didn’t want to spend so much on my first keyboard but that q1 max in white with the banana switches looked and sounded amazing!!! I’ll drop my review on it once i get it lol. Thanks! Looking forward to your full review as well!!! Subbed!!!
Thanks for sharing! I look forward to hearing your thoughts once you've tried it out ✌
the v1 max is wireless
@@noodlezbrew937 I wanted a white keyboard and didn’t want to order the V1 Max to then paint it and order new keycaps
@@raymondmercedes the v1 max also comes in white
@@vincenzodellama7158 the regular V1 comes in shell white but the max is only available in black, which wouldn’t fit the aesthetics I’m going for in my desk setup. I would have preferred to start with the more budget friendly V1 Max but I also really like the look of the Q1 Max so I won’t have to mod it anytime soon either
Q1 Max sounds quite nicee, gj keychron
What's the difference in noise level between the browns and bananas? Are the bananas louder?
I have the Gateron Pro Browns right now and it's interesting because I feel like they have just the minimal amount of tactility and are very smooth (almost like reds) otherwise. And they are quite quiet which I like now. I
Bananas are louder and more tactile than the browns - the two-phase spring has a more prominent feel to it ✌🏻
Thank you very much for this comparison... I was waiting for this... I already ordered a shell white Q1 Max with red switches and a set of OSA keycaps... Haven't received them yet but it feels a good choice already
Very nice 👍 I’m glad you liked the video
I'd like to hear how is it?
I think both sound great, but I love the plastic resonance of the V1. I bought the V3 Max a few days ago - really looking forward to it! I think plastic keyboards sound great. I do really enjoy hollowness.
Whats your opinion about it? I can't rly find many reviews...
I am still on my K2 v2 modded and looking towards V1 Max as an upgrade in months to come - programmable, 2.4Ghz and better build are just about good reasons for USD100, unless I find an alternative maker at the same price with better build/features/acoustics. Think I'll be switching to XDA keycaps that I have currently.
Nice 👍🏻 V1 Max is a good choice, but if your budget allows just a little more, you may also want to consider the NuPhy Halo V2 - I have one that I’m reviewing right now, and for about $130USD it offers some pretty good value too - though less internally accessible for mods (also better though). That will be my next video 👍🏻
@@JakeReevesVideo Budget would be around USD100-150, but that needs to include my preferred XDA key-caps with ciryllic, and some modding stuff. My current K2 v2 mod is:
- Gateron G Pro 3 Yellow switches
- Tape mode (2 layers)
- Durock stabilisers with popular mods
- 4mm Practik Base for vibration/sound dampening (orange)
- 5mm STP Biplast sound insulator (black)
- 0.5mm switch pads
- PBT XDA keycaps 1.5-1.6mm (cheap but good ones, not doubleshot)
- 1.5mm O-rings on XDA key-caps
- Poron foam between plate and PCB. :)))
Quiet sure this beets even the current V1 Max and NyPhy Halo75 v2, when it comes to thockiness and silence, but want a new one. BTW, notice that not many, or close to none, options when it comes to cases w/o top cover, like the K2 (not considering the low profile ones)! More plastic/steel/aluminium = more ways to resonate.
Just ordered V1 Max, but with Gateron Yellow switches, as I know how they feel and I really like them. Couldn't hold back :))
Nice choice 👍🏻
Where is that thump sound coming from on the max? The space bar ?
Yeah it’s the space bar
Is the v1 and V1 max essentially the same? Just one is wireless right?
Lots of internal foam upgrades on the Max - but it will be at the same price as the normal V1 which is great
I'd really like to see the two with the same keycaps
I have an audio comparison of both with OSA keycaps in the full review - hopefully coming out next week 👍
very nice, looking forward to it. I just got my V5 Max and I'm loving it. I'm trying to decide on new keycaps. @@JakeReevesVideo
Reds are to clacky
Man the reds sound like garbage but are the only linear option. It's super weird that Gateron named a tactile switch "banana". I thought it was linear because yellows are when I first saw it. Guess I'll have to order some yellows or black inks with the board.
I have tried Jupiter Reds and really like them, how do they compare with J Bananas? Really like smooth buttery feel of Reds, wonder if Banana lose that with their tactile early bump?
The two-stage tactility of the bananas is quite pronounced - they’re still smooth (not scratchy), but not as “fast” as the reds. My preference is actually: bananas, reds, browns. And I would say I’m generally a tactile guy.
@@JakeReevesVideo Thanks.
Why are most keychron keycaps so damn tall? and the chassis is always thick
Ordered the yellow gateron Jupiter switches with a new v1. This is my first setup and coming from a Logitech Mx keyboard. You think this setup is good for work?
I really like the feel of the tactile response of the banana switches, but they are a little on the louder end of the spectrum, so you may want to be careful depending on how communal your workspace is.
work from home so noise is not an issue, thanks for the quick reply!@@JakeReevesVideo
@Ghostface22x ahh… in that case, good choice 👍
The spacebar on the V Max sounds aweful :(
Which color switch feels the most like a membrane keyboard?
Just me or his keyboard sounds kinda hollow.
I just ordered the v1 max. Thanks for the comparison
Awesome 👏🏻 I hope the video helped ✌🏻
How about the flex? Im curious if either still have flex with all foams installed, and the sound difference with case foam vs no case foam
Not much flex in either because there is soo much foam
@@JakeReevesVideo I see. I guess removing the case foam helps? Also the Q1 Max seems to have more foams/film based on the website, under the PCB it has already 3, compared to the V1 Max which has 1 only.
@archeb removing the case foam would help with flex, but would change the acoustics - the comparison I show between the Q1 and Q1 Max is a good idea of what would happen because the Q1 doesn’t have all the foam, but does flex more.
The sound difference between the Max and Pro is quite big, which I didn't expect. Thanks for the review
The only difference between V1 max and q1 max is the case material? Is the q1 worth over double the price over v1?
There’s a bit more to it than that - the Q1 has more intricate internal dampening foam too - but the V1 has benefits too, it’s lighter, has storage for the RF adapters (both USB-A and C) and has OSA vs KSA keycaps. The Q1 is the better keyboard, but for twice the price it’s a tough sell when you could invest some cash into upgrading the V1… It’s a tough call.
Those remind me of the old keyboards from the 1980's. How can you stand the high square keys and the clicking?
The higher keys were a big shock at first, but after a few days forcing myself to use it I’ve gotten more comfortable with it. The clicking is most pronounced on the bananas - which I actually quite like, but wouldn’t recommend for shared office spaces - there you’re best to opt for the reds. ✌️
Woah now the V1Max is better than k2pro at a cheaper price??
It’s pretty wild just how good of value the V1 Max is. I think Q1 Max is better overall, but it’s double the cost… the V1 was already a good value, but the Max supplanting the original is just nuts 🌰
looking forward for the full review, especially the connectivity options, if possible can you explain how the duel receivers for on V series (Type-A Type-C) What happens if both are plugged into different devices at the same time :) thank you in advance
I believe they are mutually exclusive - to say, only one can be used at a time. There isn’t more than one “mode” for RF on the keyboard that I’ve found, so the signal is likely picked up by whichever one is connected.
if you want to use one keyboard with two computers, check out the synergy software.
Awesome! Thanks!
You’re very welcome 👍
Are these by chance 1000hz polling rate? I feel like that is a needed for wireless gaming.
They are 1kHz when wired and via 2,4Ghz Wifi, 90Hz via Bluetooth.
@M3dicayne thank you - typo on my part.
Both are 1000Hz wired & 2.4GHz, 90Hz Bluetooth 👍🏻
@@JakeReevesVideo Awesome video btw. Took the Q1 Max ISO (German QWERTZ) with Red Switches :)
@M3dicayne excellent choice 👍🏻
Thought my lady was the only one to use her index fingers to hit the space bar
Haha only while single-key testing - provides the best control ;)
@@JakeReevesVideo ah damn, I guess she’s still the only one 😂
I guess I never learned to type properly and only just got into mechanical keyboards and noticed all the "pros" using their thumbs, which I never knew about. Gave it a go but just couldn't do it so I'll always be using my index fingers I guess.

do you happen to know if their pcb and daughter boards are interchangeable, and if they are interchangeable with q1 pro? i already have q1 pro, want to upgrade to max but i wonder if i can save some money on the case by just buying the v1 max and just use the pcb and daughterboard
Great question, I had the same thought. I’ve taken them apart and I don’t think you can swap the V1 Max PCB and daughter board into the Q1 Max. It’s really close, but the PCB mounts to the plate in different positions and the plate mounted gasket system is different (fewer gaskets) on the Q1 Max, so they aren’t compatible. Also, the Q1 Max comes with an antenna (hides behind the funny decal on the back of the board) while the V1 Max doesn’t. Finally, the V1 Max foam gaskets are mounted to the case to squeeze the plate, while the Q1 Max gaskets are stuck to the plate - if it was this alone you might be OK, but not convinced enough to cut one of the gaskets off the V1 Max plate and remount the foam only to be left without a functioning antenna.
@@JakeReevesVideo thank you for the reply, i wonder if you can just use the pcb from v1 max and plate from q1 max to fit in q1 max's case, since they have the same layout, the plate and pcb should fit each other, not sure about the daughter board though.
@sunjames3276 the ribbon connection to the daughter board is a different size for the two, so you would have to transpose both. However, the screw mounts for the PCB to the plate are different between the Q1 Max and the V1 Max. I think the daughterboard might transpose, but the PCB wouldn’t mount properly to the plate. It also wouldn’t have the ability to connect to the antenna, so you may lose out on the wireless connectivity (or at least the range) because the aluminum case attenuates the signal.
@@JakeReevesVideo thank you, this really helps.
@sunjames3276 I’m happy to help 👍
Wait...people hit the spacebar with their index finger?! o.O I've never noticed anyone doing that before lol Thanks for the comparison, it's exactly what I was looking for! Torn between reds and banana, think I'll go banana.
Nice choice 👍🏻 The spacebar thing is only when I’m assessing it alone to not ground my fingers on the keys and alter the resonance while striking with a thumb ✌🏻
they all sound the fucking same
