There’s going to be no further videos on this setup Sam. This is what it is. The SQ has seen a marked improvement over the stock speakers despite being driven by the infotainment unit directly. With an amplifier, it would be even better. That’s all.
There’s a big, noticeable difference between the two stock units! The older one had a 15W output per speaker whereas the Alpine touchscreen unit has a 50W output per speaker. And we suspect due to a difference in the DSP inside, it makes a difference in the SQ. The speakers are the weakest link in these Honda cars since it has a puny magnet and paper cone which tears up after a few years of usage.
@@GaneshBalan I’m planning to upgrade to GTO 609C in the alpine touch unit I wasn’t sure whether it’ll work out Because In my previous Honda vehicle I had upgraded the speakers in the 1st stock unit stereo which didn’t sound out well I hope Alpine brings out a good SQ By the way I’m in Chennai do you know any good installation place In town
I agree. However, not all audio equipment dealers are aware of the latest trends and do not have the equipment/parts with them. This was done from a local dealer. He sold those plastic spacers for ~1k a pair!
Hi Naveen. Thanks for the feedback. While plastic is a good insulator, for acoustics, it’s not a really great material I must admit. Usually we add a combination of component speakers and coaxials but you can install 2 sets of 6.5” components at the front and rear. Please install a good amp to drive the components properly else they will be under-utilised.
Hi Vineeth, crossovers don’t get heated up, amplifiers do. You don’t see crossovers with heatsinks do you? 🙂 If that was the case, the first thing to melt would be the plastic cover of the crossovers before that plastic wrap on the door.
These GTO609Cs are components which are usually installed in the front doors. The rear doors take coaxials (with built in tweeters). It isn’t mandatory to upgrade rear doors to coaxials immediately. You can do it later too. If you pair all these with an amp, it brings the best out of these speakers. So they don’t sound underpowered. Hope this helps.
Not mandatory but an amplifier will improve the sound quality. You can first try without the amp and see if the SQ is good enough for your day to day listening during commutes.
@AbhisheshJhaOfficial Abhishek, if you have the funds to do damping and an amp, it will be worth it. While the GTO series will work with the stock head unit, to utilise its full potential, a 4 channel amp (2 front + 2 rear) is recommended. Damping will eliminate all the unwanted noise and vibrations from the doors. It makes the car really silent. You can do this in stages but it makes a difference. I can vouch for it since in my earlier car Polo, I did the damping in the doors, underneath the bonnet and the spare wheel well - made a significant difference

Hi Piyush, The issue is you do not have an amp. You will need at least a 4 channel amp for driving the coaxial speakers. Plus, tuning after installation is very important. A good audio equipment installer will spend at least an hour tuning the car to get the right output. Not all installers do this though - they simply complete the installation, collect the payment and leave it at that. For bass, a good subwoofer can sort it out - you can have: 1. An underseat subwoofer which has the lowest footprint but the lowest bass also. No separate amp required. 2. A spare wheel subwoofer which has a decent bass. No separate amp required. 3. A bass tube or subwoofer in a box which has the best bass. Sometimes overpowering. This requires an external amp separate from the 4 channel amplifier.
Another great video gannu sir! How much did this setup cost ? And how is the sound experience for rear passengers, since the old front ones are now placed at the back ?
Thank you. 😊 As shared by the Amaze owner: Coaxials- Rs 7200, components - Rs 8000. Fixing Cost including plastic spacers - 1700. So total 16900. After changing the rear to coaxials, the volume of coaxials is less in the rear. The stock rear speaker was 20w, so I doubt the head unit is supplying sufficient power to rear units.
@navmeet7 Hi Navmeet. Yes easily over 20W RMS per channel. If you opt for aftermarket components, do get a 4-channel amplifier - will give a good boost to the sound.
@@GaneshBalan Thanks for the swift response. Is it recommended to stick with the same brand if we opt for Co-axials for the rear & components for the front.
@navmeet7 Not necessary. You can pick and choose. See if the vendor can let you audition the different sets. Some dealers would let you do it since you’re doing a high value purchase.
Ok got it. These are my recommendations for a good 4 channel amp: 1. Alpine BBX F1200 2. Pioneer GM E7004 Please check with your local audio installer. They’ll have some good options too and good pricing as well.
Hi Vipin, ideally yes. These speakers need an amplifier so they are used to their fullest potential. In the absence of one, you can feel the lack of output especially with some stock head units.
@vipindagar8700 Hope apne equaliser settings tweak kiya hein. Blaupunkt usually should be able to deliver better sound than most stock systems. Still if you feel the output is less, please don’t hesitate to get a good amplifier if you listen to a lot of music while driving.
Damping sheets work but requires a considerable amount of effort into applying them properly with roller tool and of course, money. If you apply it on the door panels, floor, the wheel well of the spare wheel, etc. it reduces road noise and makes the cabin silent. Some folks with a lot of budget go through whole hog and apply it on the wheel wells, ceiling, etc. Makes the car dead silent.
What do you recommend coaxial or component speakers for amaze? Is there any drastic difference? Co axil sound quality is bad ? Can you help with this doubt
Components are better than coaxials if paired with a good amp. If you’re driving the speakers with just the head unit, coaxials would be better. There is a noticeable difference between aftermarket components/ coaxials compared to Honda’s stock speakers. I would recommend using a good amp to bring the best out of these speakers.
How much watt do the stock speakers come with ? I’m not much “After Market Car modification person” so just planning to replace all four stock speakers of my Amaze with 4 Coaxials just to get higher and better sound. Any suggestions ?
Honda hasn’t indicated the wattage on the stock speakers. I would hazard a guess - 20W max, going by the wattage on the standard stock speakers with tiny magnets. Hyundai’s Bose and Tata’s Harman units have higher wattage like 35W. For your use case, I’d recommend a set of any of these coaxials: 1. Kenwood KFC-1666S 2. Infinity 6520F 3. Sony XS-FB162E They can be driven just fine with the stock unit. Larger wattage units like the Morels, Polks, etc require an amp. to be properly driven.
Hi @ganeshbalan I have few questions. So I am looking to upgrade front speakers with JL Audio C1 650X, how does it compare with JBLs you've installed. Also is there any benefit if I install from stocks to the rear?
Hi Salar, to answer your queries: 1. I haven’t heard JL Audio’s speakers personally so can’t give you my feedback on them. But from what I hear from various forums and reviews on the internet, they are superior to JBL. It’s like this: Blam Audio > JL Audio > JBL ~ Infinity Reference > Kenwood ~ Pioneer > Sony 2. I don’t know what car you have but don’t the rear have any speakers at all? Or are they blank slots. Usually, car manufacturers have the same set of speakers at the front and rear doors. Some have components for the front and midrange drivers at the rear. 3. Please have an amp to drive these speakers. Most owners simply upgrade the speakers and say they don’t sound great. These aftermarket speakers with higher wattage like 200-300W need a dedicated amplifier to bring the best out of them.
