- From a distant planet, she was sent to protect our future, but what awaits her is a journey of self-discovery. Kara Zor-El was born in Argo City, a fragment of the planet Krypton that survived its destruction. Neither superman nor supergirl were able to fly.
They could leap tall buildings in a single bound. They could not defy gravity.

I know when first introduced in 1938, Superman eventually had to come down as he was just performing great leaps (much like The Hulk later in the 60’s), it was changed years later. When introduced in Action Comics 252, Supergirl could fly. In modern comics continuity, both characters fly, not leap.
Supergirl's first appearance was in 1959. By that time, it was well established in comics canon that Kryptonians could fly.
@@OptimusWombat The issue is that superman / supergirl were not magical. They had super-human strength.
Animals that fly do so by flapping their wings. They do not defy gravity by floating.
Even x-ray vision makes sense, because they are seeing wave-lengths of light that are real, and their biology can see those wavelengths. It is a plausible ability.
But flying / floating?
I guess that it is up to the writers.
Flying, rather than leaping, allowed the writers to create scenarios where leaping great distances would not have worked. But it took the plausible super-human strength ability and turned them into G-d-like beings.
Were they able to fly on Krypton, or only upon arriving on Earth?
@@NoEgg4u why are you trying to impose real world physics on a fantasy universe? There is something called suspension of disbelief, otherwise why even bother?
Within the fictional canon, the explanation is that Kryptonian physiology allows them to process specific wavelengths of solar radiation, such as that of Earth's yellow sun. Which is why they have extraordinary powers on Earth, but not on Krypton which had a red sun. This is also the case for Daxamites, a species closely related to the Kryptonians.
@@NoEgg4u it also doesn't make _real world_ sense that a species which evolved on a different planet would have an outward appearance identical to that of humans. Convergent evolution does occur, but this is extremely unlikely for complex organisms. Why haven't you mentioned that?
