Tarikh Episode 434
Tarikh is a daily Hindi programme in which we present you with incidents and stories of noteworthy persons and Incidents. In this edition of Tarikh, Mubarak talks about Sam Manekshaw, also known as Sam Hormusji Framji Jamshedji Manekshaw, was a highly respected Indian military general who served as the Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army. He played a key role in India's victory against Pakistan in the 1971 Indo-Pak war and was widely regarded as one of India's greatest military heroes.
Manekshaw was born on April 3, 1914, in Amritsar, Punjab, India, and joined the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun in 1932. He served in World War II and was awarded the Military Cross for his bravery in the Burma Campaign. In 1947, he joined the Indian Army and played a crucial role in integrating the princely states of Hyderabad, Jammu & Kashmir, and Junagadh into India.
Manekshaw was known for his strong leadership skills, strategic thinking, and decisive actions. He was highly respected by his colleagues and subordinates alike and was known for his quick wit and sense of humour. He retired from the Indian Army in 1973 and passed away on June 27, 2008, at the age of 94.

This is the sad part. He let go of 90k pakistani rascals who raped and killed hindus. They should have been put to trial like nazis. Too bad they were fed well and sent back to Pakistan.
He was very nice person .I met him in one club in Coimbatore.I was in Indian Air Force at that time.He asked me why you didn't join Army instead of Air Force. See his love for Army.Another incident of him is ,on 3rd December 1971 he visited one Army Post in Fazalka sector ,All Army men were sitting on the ground to listion.He was addressing army men from the dias , he noticed one person very handsome and very fair and hardly 20 years old,from his stick he called my brother near to him ,he went there and Late general extended his hand for shaking and tried to pull him on the plateform,but he couldn't pull up him instead my brother pulled him nearly down .But that great man took smilingly.Same day war of 1971 started.

Gen. Manek Shaw was Field Marshal at the time of '71 war. I was 9 yr old at that time but I used to follow war updates through The Times of India which, I was made to recite by my TAU JI who could not read it himself due to his partial blindness. "Please share more episodes of this kind"

You should have mentioned how Gen was tortured by PM Indra by not giving him salary and pension till President ordered when Fd Marshall was badly sick and was probably last phase of his life. Can anyone be so inhumane. Whatever money that was given to Fd Marshall was donated to Ex service fund. What a great man he was. My Salute.

Manekshaw took part in world war ll . He was defending Burma against the Japanese attack .History has recorded some of his memorable experiences . One day , as he moved forward with his men against the Japanese army , He got shoot by a Japanese solider which seriously bounded him. Major general , David Cowan thought that Manekshaw would loose his life . And he immediately pinned his own Military cross ribbon on Manekshaw saying, " A dead person cant be awarded a military cross.

No he was second first manik same bahadur
Cariappa though senior was conferred FM rank post retirement , he retired in 1953 and was made FM in 1986 while Sam was made FM in 1973
