For those saying we get used to pain so he gets used to it. Picture this. When we feel pain for long long time our nerve endings become numb, his nerve endings repair almost immediately recovering full sensitivity. That means every time feels like first time and he just has to stay mentally strong and prepared for the pain being just as intense. That being said, I wonder what a wolverine without any pain would be like, a god? Baldur?
That also explains why he is almost, if not always, seen with a bottle of beer or whiskey in hand. I've heard that alcohol can help dull pain. Poor guy is just trying to literally numb some of his pain during his sped up healing process. Funnily enough, his healing factor would also fight off the alcohol, and actually prevent drunkenness and even Alcohol Poisoning. Dehydration from the alcohol consumption, though... he would have a serious hangover from lack of water.
Wolverine would become more desensitized to it on a mental level since he is familiar with that sensation that happened over time. It would still hurt but it would be pushed into the back ground mentally. It's similar to say someone that has to give themselves daily injections and given time it's no longer a big deal to them.
Even if your nerve endings recover you can still get used to pain. It's like tearing ur ACL. The pain will hurt but after 3 days it go3s away. Your nerve endings haven't healed as it's ur ACL bit your mind will get use to it and will negate the pain.

Funny thing is, in the original character design the claws were part of his gloves, until one artist drew him with the gloves off and the sheaths were still on the backs of his hands. @@bobbylashleysheadband6502 well the claws rest inside his forearm. His claws just destroying his wrist joint seems kinda dumb for a mutation. It would make more sense if his wrist joint was just shaped different to accommodate the claws. Same goes for just tearing between his knuckles. You'd think his mutation would make something like natural slits between the knuckles that maybe look like scars.

@tamaraakuma9756 is that why when he had a nightmare in one of the older movies he accidentally stabs rogue ? I think that's when she stole his healing factor so she'd live.
I never thought about this but now it makes sense, when the claws are out body heals and fill the space that was left behind and when he retracts them they literally puncture him in the inside.
@@peoplez129It’s not that it’s blunter think about the cells bone is spongy perfectly sharp metal is smooth the spongy bone would grip the tissue and rip through where as sharp metal would potentially just separate the cells from each other but also some metals like copper are spiky on a microscopic level
The claws are located behind his wrist tendons and since they’re a bone they’re attached to muscles that then rip when ejected and not only those muscles are ripped but his wrist joint is completely stabbed straight through and his flesh skin and tissue is completely ripped and the only thing keeping his wrist from breaking is his healing factor and the stability from his claws so yeah every time he checks his claws it hurts like hell yet I would think that the pain would slowly numb overtime
The whole coming out in between the digits is exclusive to the movies (probably to get them more secure). In lore, they come out above his knuckles, more the back of his hand. So, not quite completely through his wrist bones and more like pushing them slightly aside and sliding over on top of them.
Imagine a Hulk X Wolverine mashup. Virtually indestructible but with an adamantium skeleton and a healing factor so powerful he can regenerate from a single cell. Nothing can stop that
One of the reasons is also the adamantium. It is so sharp that everything that grazes it as he is extending or retracting them gets cut, too. On top of that, they are probably painful to attack with, since the slightest wiggle of the claws can cut into the surrounding skin and muscle.
The metal "guides" on his gloves are also a throwback to his original character concept where the claws weren't part of his anatomy but were telescoping knives that were simply attached to the gloves.
Started with claws in the gloves, then it became the gloves put a plug and channel in between the knuckles to keep the skin open so they don't cut the skin every time.
So Wolverine's remarkable healing ability is both a blessing and a curse. He heals in mere seconds, as vividly seen when he approached Jean Grey as Phoenix to stab her; his flesh was melting and regenerating within moments. This rapid healing means the pain he endures comes quickly and then fades just as fast. He probably doesn’t always feel the pain immediately. Some people, for example, don’t feel gunshot wounds until a few minutes later due to the body's delayed pain response. A key factor in Wolverine's pain experience is adrenaline. During traumatic events, the body releases adrenaline, which triggers the "fight or flight" response. This hormone increases heart rate, blood flow, and energy levels, and it can temporarily suppress pain to help the person cope with immediate danger. For Wolverine, this means that when his claws come out, the pain might feel like a paper cut - sharp but fleeting. Shock is another critical factor. The body's immediate response to severe injury can include shock, which numbs the senses and delays pain perception. Shock involves a rapid drop in blood pressure and reduced blood flow to the brain and other organs, causing a dazed or detached feeling. This can prevent Wolverine from fully processing the pain right away. Endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers, also play a role. Released in response to stress and trauma, endorphins bind to opioid receptors in the brain, significantly reducing the sensation of pain. For Wolverine, this means that while his injuries are severe, his body’s biochemical response helps dull the pain quickly. Nerve damage can sometimes prevent pain signals from reaching the brain. In Wolverine's case, even if his injuries are severe, the nerve damage caused by these injuries might prevent him from feeling the pain in the affected area temporarily or permanently until his healing factor repairs it. Psychological factors also come into play. The brain's focus on survival can override the immediate perception of pain. In high-stress situations, Wolverine's brain might prioritize processing other critical information, delaying the conscious awareness of pain until the immediate threat has passed. Finally, consider Wolverine’s lifestyle. He consumes large amounts of alcohol, which can dull pain. Some people don’t feel pain as intensely when they are drunk, making bar fights relatively trivial for him. His healing factor ensures that once the adrenaline and endorphins wear off, the pain doesn’t return, unlike for ordinary people whose pain might resurface once these temporary relief mechanisms fade. So Wolverine's unique physiology combined with the body's natural responses to injury - adrenaline, shock, endorphins, and psychological factors - all contribute to his extraordinary ability to endure and quickly recover from pain. His rapid healing and high alcohol tolerance further aid in making severe injuries feel less significant to him, ensuring he remains one of the most resilient characters in the Marvel universe.
in the comics the claws were originally prosthetics that were implanted into his arms by weapon X. they were covered in a silicon sheath that in turn was covered in muscles that extended and retracted them through the metal sliders. yes, they were originally part of his hand. but after magneto tore out all of his adamantium it was ret-conned that the claws were actually bone, and were simply coated in the metal. that was when he said he pops them out to keep the channel open because before it was always open and he needed to do so because it hurt if he let them heal.
I don't recall that in the Chris Claremont Weapon X book. What i recall is that they did note that excess adamantium was being drawn to the forearm area, but the technicians had no idea why. What's your source for the "silicon sheath covered with muscle"?
@@steadfasttinsoldier5228 in one of the old marvel character encyclopedias, before the Claremont run, they had descriptions and drawings that explained and visualized it all. When Wolverine says that it hurts "every time", due to the dramatic pause, I thought he was referring to the emotional pain of being a mutant; of being different and unwelcome in society. His claws are a reminder of that fact.
that’s pretty good. I’ve always gotten the impression Wolverine doesn’t really mind/is pretty proud of being a mutant. All he needs to really do is keep his claws in and he can blend in with society 95% of the time
People seem to forget that his claws aren’t just pushing through the skin on his knuckles. they’re pushing through bone, muscle, veins, nerves and so much more stuff.
Good thing is that because of his disgustingly high adrenaline levels (which is also what gives him the strength to throw hands with people who have actual super strength when he doesn’t) he doesn’t feel the pain as much, if he can shrug off getting shot in the chest with a shotgun with little effort then the claws are nothing.
he does have super strength. his bones are metal and very heavy, yet he can leap very far. if he was a normal person, he wouldnt even be able to move properly
I think I remember that in an episode of the original cartoon series. Something about losing his powers while in the Savage Lands. He popped his claws during a fight but then had to wear bandages on his hands for the rest of the episode.
He's always felt pain hasn't he. He regenerates, but he feels everything. Every stab, every gunshot, every punch. Am I tripping? He's always felt the pain of every wound right?
Here’s a fun fact about Wolverine’s claws. They weren’t originally meant to be part of his mutation. In his first appearance in the 70s X-Men comics, his claws were actually part of his gloves, created and provided by the Canadian government. The idea was that he was just a regular Canadian guy with a healing factor, allowing him to fight like an animal without worrying about getting hurt. But in the 80s, the new writers decided to make his claws a part of his mutation to make him more "metal" (literally and figuratively). And thus, the iconic clawed Wolverine we know today was born.
Not really they boost his mutations benefits, hes an animalistic mutant, everything about his abilities are driven by instinct and by causing pain he spikes adrenaline allowing for stronger attacks, faster movements and sharper focus. His pain is turned into a massive advantage. Plus its nowhere near on the scale of someone else would feel this video is inaccurate
@@Mistifure his mutation wouldn't make sense to have the claws if he didnt so not really worth the conversation. He did lose his healing a few times and had no issues using his claws, just wrapped that shit up. Later explaining that he continued to do it to keep the area open to make use of them easier, like a pierced ear....this was from a comic while he was talking to jubilee
Originally, he didn't have bones and the claws were inserted with the adamantium skeleton. They later retcon'd that the bones were a tertiary mutation that was already present. In the former, the claws are stored in an adamantium tube. In the latter, there are additional forearm muscles that allows extension and retraction. Regardless of which origin you subscribe to, both the bones and the claws cut the tissues as they extend and retract, particularly as they traverse through the structures of the wrist, which in turn causes pain.
When he got his Adam Antium there were needles that were burning heart that we’re injected into his body via face torso legs and arms they all conjoined in a metallic state and then hardened inside of his body and now his claws come out way faster because the metal is way sharper than bone which is why it hurts way less when he has metal yeah it poisons him and slowly kills him overtime if he does not have his healing factor to heal his blood cells that the adamant TM in his body is slowly killing because of the adamant TM disrupting his bone marrow that handles the reproduction of red blood cells and also the reason why the claws hurt so much is that they’re not located on knuckles they’re located behind the wrists and every time he just the claws they ripped through the tendons and the joints of the wrist then tears to the skin of his knuckles then when they go back in without his suit they do the same process again and they have to immediately regenerate which started to slow down as the adamant TM poison his blood cells making his healing factor way less active
They way it was before was he had shoots installed in his arms back when his claws were grafted in by Department H for the Weapon X program until it was retconned in the 90s after it was revealed he had bone claws the entire time after Magneto ripped the adamantium out of his body. Even further back thab that, the claws were part of his costume, wheb he was just meant to be a one-off character to fight the Hulk

X-23's clone Scout is insensitive to pain. So she would be dangerous when she gets adamantium claws.

@@jdp3578In the comics he has the claws on his wrists. Heard from someone say that the wrist bones separate to allow the claws to come out smoothly. Dunno if this is true, but maybe. Why his claws come out of the area where your fingers separate is strange. Guess less pain or looks cooler?
@@bobbylashleysheadband6502 well the claws rest inside his forearm. I imagine the control he has over his claws would indicate each claw has a tendon similar to a persons Achilles running maybe into his elbows? The claws somehow go through the wrist, the tendons probably get stuck in the wrist, maybe allowing him to lock his claws in place. But how does his wrist/joint work? His claws just destroying his wrist joint seems kinda dumb for a mutation. It would make more sense if his wrist joint was just shaped different to accommodate the claws. Same goes for just tearing between his knuckles. You'd think his mutation would make something like natural slits between the knuckles that maybe look like scars.

I never thought about this but now it makes sense, when the claws are out body heals and fill the space that was left behind and when he retracts them they literally puncture him in the inside.
Keep in mind, it used to be only bone until they coated his skeleton, which I would imagine would be worse because it's blunter.

@@crissanti8206 doesn’t mean he’s fine we can feel whatever we want about him it doesn’t change his character at all
The whole coming out in between the digits is exclusive to the movies (probably to get them more secure). In lore, they come out above his knuckles, more the back of his hand. So, not quite completely through his wrist bones and more like pushing them slightly aside and sliding over on top of them.
In the comics, forge created those metal tunnels and surgically inserted them into his hands to ease the bs. He had to have them redone as needed
I never read any comics but was always familiar with the design. Good to finally know the purpose of them. Always thought it was a cosmetic thing.
Imagine a Hulk X Wolverine mashup. Virtually indestructible but with an adamantium skeleton and a healing factor so powerful he can regenerate from a single cell. Nothing can stop that
Hed be truly an unstoppable force!
One of the reasons is also the adamantium. It is so sharp that everything that grazes it as he is extending or retracting them gets cut, too. On top of that, they are probably painful to attack with, since the slightest wiggle of the claws can cut into the surrounding skin and muscle.
The adamantium is 99 percent the reason. It increased the diameter of the claws and also, as you indicate, made them sharper from EVERY angle

What AI program did you use?
Most every time we see Wolverine pop his claws, he growls. He is using the pain to go into his rage.
in the comics the claws were originally prosthetics that were implanted into his arms by weapon X. they were covered in a silicon sheath that in turn was covered in muscles that extended and retracted them through the metal sliders. yes, they were originally part of his hand. but after magneto tore out all of his adamantium it was ret-conned that the claws were actually bone, and were simply coated in the metal. that was when he said he pops them out to keep the channel open because before it was always open and he needed to do so because it hurt if he let them heal.

I don't understand why his claws hurt if he had bone claws before that all the adamantium did was coat around his already existing claws.
They did hurt to every time they come out
Imagine you had some extra bones in your hands that are constantly piercing ripping n tearing thru your flesh that would hurt…a lot
Dude it’s still ripping through his skin and separating his tendons muscles etc 😂
