I like them all being the same height because I like the funny running gag of every single adult being the same height in Lego. I think the issue with stuff like the lizard or ultron figures compared to stuff like Hagrid or Eggman is simplicity. New molds are only used when absolutely necessary and even then it's done to a minor degree
In my opinion the lizard doesn't looks bad, depending on the version you are adapting. The one from the movies is similar to the minifigure presented here, while the one from the animated show from the 90's isn't similar and should require a special mold for the head. Meanwhile, Ultron is extremely differente and I believe it REALLY needs a special mold for the helmet. Despite that, I prefer lego sets with little prints in the legs and arms rather than customs with tons of detail
"New molds are only used when absolutely necessary "??? lol thats what someone says when they have the subjectivism fallacy, I deem this new mold necessary so other molds, typically not official lego, is now deemed unreasonable. Or moving the goal post, well this is simplicity I like, oh new mold, wellll now this is the new simplicity i like, oh new custom mold, welllllll now this is the new me likey. the problem with those figures is they're just *too* detailed that they just look... wrong. Even with specially molded pieces Lego officially uses, they don't use too many and most importantly, they still maintain a generally lego like look. These use way to many custom pieces and those pieces don't look like lego. Especially with the head pieces. The official minifigure head has a look that helps with making it recognizable, and those figures just ruin that. In general, even custom molded pieces for lego figures maintain the general shape of a standard minifugure piece. These deviate too much from that general shape that it just doesn't work and thats the problem
I agree, I buy a few knock off figures occasionally (not hyper expensive customs because I don’t have the money) but I am very picky on what I pick up, if a figure doesn’t look like lego, whether that be a custom mould that just doesn’t work (like a lot of fnaf minifigs i’ve seen) or they just look bad like a lot of big gigs do, personally my favourite way to represent the lizard is through the use of the lego batman movie killer croc, it’s not perfect but it works, plus my display is a combination of mcu, comic, and other origins so it doesn’t matter if it’s not faithful to a specific version
@@Boricua_User146 Yeah! Exactly! When you add in to many custom parts and extra details, it just becomes a kind of lego uncanny valley because it stops looking like a lego minifigure. Stuff like the death trooper armour & the hagrid fig don't change too much overall from a standard minifigure. There's still enough of the general shapes and design elements of a minifig that it can be easily recognized as one. The custom minifigs he shows off here just, aren't. There's to much deviating from or covering up the minifig elements that it just looks wrong
This is why I like the custom lizard. That shoulder/tail piece kinda feels like it could be an official piece. Reminds me of the cmf lizard suit guy's tail

Customs are fine as long as they follow Lego standard when it comes to printing. I wouldn't mind custom molded pieces since it adds detail but I can see why people don't like them.
@@ProcrastinatinZombie Being critical about it yeah, a lot of times they should implement more molds and stuff to make their figures more unique and detailed, but at the same time, there's a sweet spot u know?, if it goes too far it stops looking like a lego and looks like a little statue of a character, which should be entirely it's separate thing, if I want an Iron Man lego minifig, I want it to distinguish itself as a Lego figure, and to nicely blend with my other Lego minifigs, which is what they currently achieve with simplicity on the mold, and detailed prints As a greater example, I agree the mark 1 could use a different helmet mold, one that loos more flat and more like the bucket type of helmet the mark 1 had in the movie, also adding some shoulder bulkiness could be nice, but starting to add accesories to the arms, then the legs, then get rid of the details and volume in the printing in favor of molding those, yeah, we went too far
@Cerri22PG my point is, that sweet spot tends to change when lego makes it so or isn't consistent. Basically it tends to be a lego snobby approach. I don't think it's okay until lego does it themselves and now it's okay kind of thing lol
@@imfsresidentotaku9699 not to belittle anyone's creativity, but these usually end up just being too detailed, and, as said, uncanny. No doubt, they take skill to design and produce, but at this point getting into action figures or 3d printing or miniatures is just a better bet (I think at least). But ofc, enjoy the heck out of them, if you do, it's just that they don't feel Lego anymore
@@imfsresidentotaku9699 - They’re not bashing on people’s creativity, they’re just saying it doesn’t look like LEGO. The core idea of LEGO is that its pieces can be re-used for anything. It’s why minifigures have such a simplistic shape to them. There’s an aesthetic that has to be maintained to keep custom figures still looking like LEGO. That Ultron was more of an action figure than a minifigure.
In my opinion, the LEGO style is a little cartoony. You’re not going for completely realistic or high detail because (as seen in 2004/5 Harry Potter sets) it looks weird and off putting. It’s why some minifigs look good with non printed legs and why we don’t get shoe printing that often - it’s not necessary.
To me, simplicity is the hallmark of Lego itself. I admit Jin.Custom really nailed it for proportion & detail, but for a somekind of KO this was too expensive for me and detailed paint took away the aesthetics of Lego itself.
I can’t deny that Ultron minifigure is very impressive, but at a certain point it stops feeling like a Lego figure and more like an action figure if that makes sense. With all of these movie accurate details it just makes his claw hands that Lego characters have look really out of place. I don’t want to bash the people that made the figure, it’s really good, but I think the Lego aesthetic/style was kind of lost somewhere in translation. I’m not against detailed figures, and I do think the official Ultron figure should have a little more bulk to it, and I’m all for seeing Lego figures with more detail, but I think this is a little too far away from the Lego style
There’s definitely a difference with custom molds when it comes to new helmets for Star Wars and whatever that ultron and mark 1 are. They lose the lego look and touch. Mini figs aren’t supposed to be 1 to 1 of movie characters. They’re stylized versions. If you want proper height or design buy action figures not lego
I mean, there's a market for everything, and if these guys are happy with extremely detailed minifigs then sure, but wanting them to be included in the actual Lego sets... yeah, no
I really wish Lego made a leg type that’s between the avatar and regular legs Honestly Lego needs more smooth parts to represent more body types Like The Mr. Incredible torso, and perhaps a modified hagrid torso that is meant to look like a fat body that goes on regular minifig legs and uses the hagrid arms
es cierto, les falta unas piernas medianas, porque las de avatar son exageradas, la unica solucion hasta ahora es usar botas que aumenten 2 a 3 milimetros a las piernas...
exactly, many custom minifig creators don’t know when to stop adding more details . Lego has certain style and when they make it too detailed, it gets lost and then it’s just something that doesn’t resembles lego at all.
These are my problems with most customs: - Printing where LEGO doesn’t (inner legs, back of the legs, hands, etc.) - Overmolding a piece (tons of panel lines, parts having too many elevation changes (like the Iron Man chest plate going out then back in for the arc reactor), etc.) - Adding molded pieces where they don’t need to or shouldn’t be (gun holsters on legs, leg armor, arm armor, sometimes stuff that goes on the wrists, etc.) - Overly detailed prints (too many lines, trying to cram EVERY element of a design onto a figure, etc. This just makes the figure look too busy) - Non standard prints for faces (many of these just look like bad bootlegs and don’t fit with the LEGO style at all) - Added articulation (knees, elbows) - Non standard colors (if LEGO doesn’t produce it, customs shouldn’t use it) These problems usually compound on each other and make them look less and less like minifigures and more like some cheap bootleg action figure TRYING to be a minifigure. I can appreciate the amount of time and skill that goes into these, but I rarely see customs that actually fit well into the LEGO style. Too many people are obsessed with trying to make the most hyper detailed figures possible, and not enough are trying to make something that feels official.
Who exactly are you to say what customs should or shouldn't do? None of these are problems outside of your own personal preference. If people want to make highly detailed custom minifigures and other people want to buy them, there's no issue. You're welcome to have those preferences and choose not to get anything that doesn't suit them, but acting like customs are under some obligation to look as official as possible is just silly
@@luke_4252I get where you are coming from, but for myself and I assume many others we want customs that can blend seamlessly in with the rest of our official minifigs. I usually only get customs for figures that Lego doesn’t make, but I try to find one that looks like theoretically Lego could make it. If you want hyper detailed and stylized minfigs, cool, but me and others want something more aligned with Lego’s official style/ design.
@@luke_4252 Yes, that's exactly why I prefaced the comment with "these are MY problems with most customs." There's a market for highly detailed customs, and I'm not about to tell anyone they're right or wrong for being a part of that market. The video simply posed a question, I gave my two cents on the matter.
@@ARDIZsq that's fine, I just take issue with someone stating what customs "shouldn't use" as it there's some rule against things like large amounts of detail or use of colour outside of Lego's current palette. You're perfectly welcome to your preferences and to an extent I agree, especially when some customs do go way over the top, though I am still partial to some of the detailed ones
I think there needs to be a torso like the Hagrid coat piece that is shorter. The Hagrid arms are very useful for adding bulk and a wider silhouette, but their current uses are rather limited. A special torso could have wide application and reuse for figures in between minifig and big-fig size. It could even be used with both standard legs and long legs.
Custom Ultron is WAY better to me. Ultron SHOULD be taller and beefy compared to other mini figures. I'd say it's time for Lego to make taller figures too, to match the height difference for certain characters in movies. This way we don't get a giant figure for Colossus who is taller than most humans, but still not as big as hulk Is. Yet both hulk and colossus have the same big figure.
To me, the biggest issue with trying to adapt a character like Ultron into a minifigure… is using a minifigure body. Ultron isn't a person, he's an AI with a robot body. His minifigure should be specifically made that way, like lego does for the Battle Droids for Star Wars. Don't go all out with the robot feel, but enough to where you're not limited by the two inaccurate size legs Lego has produced. Still use a minifigure head and arms, but everything else shouldn't be in the same proportions or design as a plain minifigure since Ultron doesn't fit the base human silhouette. He's taller, his shoulders are huge, he's got a larger upper torso, etc, so you shouldn't use a plain minifigure body for characters like him. That is one thing lego needs to improve on; adapting humanoid characters who don't fit the general human silhouette at all, like the Lizard and Ultron.
i think the main issue is that the customs have a diffrent design language then lego. how to distil and understand that is a large task i must say. an example of customs making new molds but still looking the part is in the world of kenner starwars figures. there is a guy who goes by the name stan solo who has absorbed the design language of these older kenner toys and makes customs that fit in perfectly with the older figures. learning what angles what colors what level of detail lego uses and much more would be needed to make customs that look the part
At a certain point there is to much detail and it looses the lego charm at that point just get a marvel legends or stat wars black series figure for your displays.
"Don't buy this existing product that combines your love of Lego with your love of detailed figures, just buy detailed figures of a completely different scale and with no compatibility to your current display" Not trying to be rude but do you really think this is useful advice?
What made LEGO Constraction so appealing was that it's the art of using LEGO pieces to build a character model how you desire. It's something that isn't possible with the Minifigure, given how they usually aren't the focus build. But Constraction themes like _BIONICLE_ and _Hero Factory_ strive in making the characters the builds. And LEGO sets are usually supposed to be a building toy, not a near-pre-assembled action figure. (The CMF sets basically have to rely on blind-packaging and repeat purchases to even make a profit from all of the new molds, and stop specific figures from shelf-warming or getting scalped.) It's just a shame that people still have the sentiment that "Constraction isn't real LEGO", "BIONICLE isn't real LEGO", and "LEGO should stay in their lane and not make action figures", yet, they'll obsessively rage over Minifigures. And these brick-built action figures and mechs for Minifigures we are getting with today's LEGO Super Hero sets aren't cutting it out for me. For anyone reading this, try opening up BrickLink Studio and build some Constraction sets like the 2001 _BIONICLE_ Toa Mata, or the 2012 _Hero Factory_ sets. Then try using those Technic, _BIONICLE,_ and _Hero Factory_ pieces to build your own character.
CCBS was honestly one of my favorite additions to the catalog of pieces, and sure, it was missing a few pieces to aid with System compatibility (like shell pieces with studs or anti-studs instead of the panel detailing and the two peg holes, that would've made it near-perfect to me), then again constraction was designed off Technic, not System. Mixel-style joints were designed off System, however, it's just a shame they discontinued all three lines that introduced and heavily use them (Bionicle, Hero Factory and Mixels, there were Star Wars constraction figures) in favor of the new System figures.
The problem is detail because lego has a very specific detail and these custom details are so intricately molded,it almost looks like an action figure on top of all the bold black lines that lego loves being lost. The problem isnt new molds, its the amount if detail in said mold
i.... actually would love if LEGO took those legs for both the Lizard AND Ultron for official figures. those are GENIUS! using the original Lego legs as KNEE JOINTS for a secondary leg portion on top of it! or the Lizard having his giant legs be a sleeve on the normal Lego legs, allowing it to be used on other minifigures for goofy customization!
they all look cool but the problem is the budget for a figure like that ultron figure. if LEGO is going to mass produce a figure, said figure has to be simple enough to produce but looks good enough to sell
Once the mini figure starts to disappear underneath all the external parts, I start to check out. Yes there are already some official LEGO minifigs that use a lot of specialized parts, but as you said, these crazy customs do not FIT the LEGO look. They just look like clay blobs...
I think Lego could really stand to benefit if they introduced a torso piece like the one Mr. Incredible has in the game, where it fits on standard minifigure legs and isn't as big as a big fig, but is still noticeably larger than that of your standard figure. Obviously, they'd use it for Mr. Incredible were they ever to release more sets from that theme, but I think it'd help with a number of other themes; for example in this video, I'm slightly bothered by the Lizard minifigure just because he is too small, in my opinion. It doesn't feel right that Lizard, who is absolutely huge in the movie, is the exact same size as Spidey in the set, so giving him a different torso would really help differentiate them, in my opinion. Not sure it would help with Ultron, but I think he could just use a special helmet and shoulder mold-he's big, obviously, but he doesn't really strike me as needing to be significantly taller than the standard minifig. Obviously, they should keep the big figs for characters like Hulk and Thanos, but I think it'd be useful to have an intermediate size for figures.
In the Sims modding community, there is this concept called "Maxis-matching". Basically, a Maxis-matched mod (such as hair, furniture or clothing) should fit seemlessly into the base game in terms of the 'clay' art style that Maxis came up with. Many modders ignore this to create a more 'detailed' or 'realistic' mod, which often ends up feeling less realistic because of how much it sticks out in the base game. I think that there should be some attempt to stick to the minifigure art style - it actually feels like a more detailed and accurate depiction of a character that way.
Ah revenge of the brick the most what the fuck thing lego ever did with star wars. It makes clone wars heads look like the mona lisa. Still love the short in a so bad it is good way tough.
I like custom figures as novelties, but I really don't think they're the way Lego should be going. Moulded pieces are used when necessary like with ahsoka's tendrils or hagrid's body, but the pieces are always designed in a way that keep with Lego's more simplistic style. Things like the Ultron head and the lizard legs, while more accurate to the source material, just aren't in keeping with Lego. Lego isn't supposed to be fully accurate, it's a stylized version of something we're familiar with, it's its own style entirely so I don't see why we should take that away from it by trying to make it more accurate by giving figures specific pieces that take away from the Lego look.
Im in the minority I suppose, but I love most customs with art all around the figure and more details. As long as its correct. WM makes amazing anime figures, and a few other... shops I guess have good print jobs. YMMV I guess. Theres a lot of crap ones out there, but also amazing ones. With Lego prices increasing unnecessarily (looking at you, new tumbler set), the simple looking figs (and stickers) are just looking too lazy.
I 1000% agree on the title's statement, customs try WAY too hard, to the point where the style & novelty of a LEGO minifig just disappears. Although, that Ultron minifig adding a knee joint was just awesome!
honestly i would really love if something like those ultron… uhh, thighs?… were sold as a standalone part. i've always wished mini figures _felt_ more customizable. like i know you _can_ swap out the arms and legs. but those connections never feel like they _want_ you to take them apart. in my experience legs and arms become much looser when they're taken on and off a lot, which doesn't feel very in-the-spirit of lego. (i'm sure there's a good reason for it.) i also know it's FAR too late for lego to redesign the mini figure at this point. but if those connections could be easily swapped out, and they gave us more modular parts like those thighs, and maybe brought back the 4-armed torso, and some new arm molds… man, kids would be thriving
Honestly... my favorite minifigure is the Megablocks Halo figures. They have just enough pose ability and their softer plastic joints keeps them from wearing down as fast as the hard plastic lego figs
In my opinion Light Customs and Cobalt Bricks are really good of adding tons of detail but still looking like a cmf fig, light customs has their own technique to make dual molded legs in colors that don’t exist or are hard to get, like brown/black for their anakin, with 360 degree printing but it looks simple enough to blend in with any other figs you may have. Cobalt has the same lego style but that is mostly with their collaboration figs with Bo Katan Bricks, like their Nute Gunray and Rune Hako, and they have 360 degree printing on their skirts but it is in a simplistic style in which it looks lego would have done it. Both companies use custom molds but they are usually limited to head pieces as they haven’t done any bulky characters yet.
I don’t understand the issue with it being to detailed? All my LEGOs & mega construx figs are together & it don’t bother me one bit! I definitely think the height & style differences are part of the charm. As long as they snap on the same bass plate we are GOLDEN! 👌🏼
I thought the lizard captured the lego feel while still being something new, but I know alot of people don't feel that way. Can we at least agree that the legs are cool? If the rest was simplified, but the legs stayed the same, would that be okay?
I think the main difference is that Lego’s molds tend to be flat with all the details being printed, the ultron chest piece for example has different depths in it when I think Lego would probably make it fully flat and print all the depth
You keep using Hagrid as justification for these crazy customs. However, his torso is not terribly complicated. The only thing that isn't printed is his pockets. Everything else uses typical LEGO techniques: regular hands, simple arms, regular (short) legs, a regular head, and a special hairpiece (though many minifigs have their own headpieces). Now take a look at Ultron: Custom chest piece, custom leg pieces, custom head piece, and custom arms. All molded in, all looking like carvings, all just for him. You can't even see minifigure eyes. When LEGO has that kind of detail, they print it. Even in more complicated molded headpieces, they mold only what they have to and print the rest. What detail in Ultron just HAD to have molding that couldn't be accomplished with printing? Yes, Ultron is a bit bulkier than other characters. But LEGO uses the same body pieces for characters from 5' to 7'. Ultron's size is not important enough nor extreme enough to warrant breaking LEGO's style. You want this kind of detail? Just do Minimates. They have a more detailed style and appear to be what you're after.
I agree some characters could use the chest/back vest piece for armor and bulking but Lego is like funko Pops. Everyone uses the same dimensions and base. It’s not A character figure, it’s a LEGO character minifigure. It personally makes them more adorable than a MegaBloks figure with their Halo series, where everyone has their unique molds within their construction
I feel like part of maintaining the "Lego style" is balancing physical features with printed ones. Lego is never gonna have small detailed extrusions in their minifigures because it's easier to break and it messes with the silhouette. When Lego is translating a design from another property, they have to prioritize the broader details that are more noticeable. It's why you'll probably never see Wolverine with individual claws instead of a single piece or Ultron with kneepads. Honestly, a well-printed minifig with added details like dual molding on the legs looks way better than a lot of customs. The selective simplicity in some minifig designs is kinda what makes some of them more appealing. One of my fav minifigs in terms of looks is Revan and it's a pretty simple fig but I don't think they needed to add anything else. Also adding more attachments to a standard minifig base is just gonna make the proportions look weird and the head look massive.
That mark 1 Iron Man and Ultron looks nasty. If you don't dig the Lego style, just buy an action figure. It will stick out like a sore thumb in any Lego display.
The mark 1 looks okay because you can still tell it's Ironman, but I could not tell that was Ultron unless you told me. The neck piece is a big stretch for the mouth.
I want to see the Mr. Incredible Minifigure torso, from the video game, get an official mold. I think it would be really great for some figures like King Pin.
I don't get why people don't like the custom figures. I love the intricate details and it looks way better than the stuff lego likes to make. I collect custom spiderman figures, anime and iron man minifigs and the level of detail is amazing. Yes they don't fit with logos design but I prefer just getting the custom ones cuz I don't want to have to buy a set i dont like for a minifig I do like or spending an insane price for a minifig on bricklink. Custom is better.
I don't like intricate moulded details for arms and legs and even torsos. A chest plate with printed detail looks great but a chest plate with moulded pipes and wires is too much. For me at that point, it doesn't look like Lego anymore. There's a balance of getting accurate to the character and IP to a degree but the Lego style and io needs to come through otherwise I may as well just buy a action figure and not this weird in-between. I love custome moulds for hair pieces and helmets but I still need them to fit Legos style, so no overly sharp points and all that. To me excessive moulding on arms legs and torsos end up looking cheap as it looks like there's no consistent identity. It's like if Minecraft started using hexagons and pyramid shapes with human shaped hands and feet. It started to look uncanny and budget made despite technically being more detailed
This is legitimately a pet peeve of mine! I prefer my custom figures to fit into the lineup of official minifigures for seamless play and display purposes.
I am not a big LEGO fan, and and I have almost nothing because its so expensive. But i wanna point out that for customs it should still look like LEGO produced it. Often there are super complex custom figures but they have too much detail- yeah I want arm and side leg printing, but we don’t need printing in the back of the kegs or inside of the hands. That’s just when things start to look way too fake
i actually really like the ultron CMF, reminds me of hero factory when they started doing minifigures in mechs. the CMF is overdetailed, though, and a little over-engineered. i think if they found a middle ground with lego's design principles and then simplified the details into simple, well placed shapes, it'd be the ideal ultron minifig. i dont see why lego wouldnt do a custom ultron mold for the helmet when they had a custom mold for EVERY hero factory character. put ferno and stormer's helmets together and that's basically him.
custom moulds are fine, but the thing with customs are that they just arent in "lego style", if lego wanted to make a better ultron figure with longer legs they wouldnt overcomplicate it as much as this company did
Lego Mini-figs need to have some level of simplicity. There’s some customs that use custom molds that still look like Lego like some of those old custom halo mini-figures; The armor pieces had just enough detail that it’s instantly recognizable as Halo, but they still looked like Lego. I think the ones that have excessive printing like on the sides of torsos or the backs of legs and/or use highly detailed molds are too much and overly detailed. Even Lego themselves shied away from over detailing mini figure parts with things like Hagrid. The older version had fingers molded into the hands, but the newer ones use basic mini-figure hands.
The problem with customs can sometimes be that, with all that detail, are the customs still even usable? Also, are they fragile? I have a been of offbrand lego and a lot of the minifigs have hands that can just barely attach to normal lego which I find really annoying. This video has some great points about what lego should be doing better and it should be lego doing this because their plastic is so much more durable than what customs usually have.
There hits a point where its too much molding, lizard and groot hit that point. Now dont get me wrong, i love special pieces, but when you go this crazy it stops feeling like lego and looks more like megablocks, which is what these guys should be aiming for in my opinion. If its not gonna look like lego, make it look like mageblocks halo level of detail
I think custom prints are fine, as long as they follow the official art direction. With molds, it too often devolves into things we see here. For me, if a custom looks like it could come in an official set, it's fine.
I like them all being the same height because I like the funny running gag of every single adult being the same height in Lego. Customs are fine as long as they follow Lego standard when it comes to printing. I wouldn't mind custom molded pieces since it adds detail but I can see why people don't like them.
lego makes custom printing and molding when they want to and lego fans say its necessary lol. Ill never understand this hobby
@@ProcrastinatinZombie Being critical about it yeah, a lot of times they should implement more molds and stuff to make their figures more unique and detailed, but at the same time, there's a sweet spot u know?, if it goes too far it stops looking like a lego and looks like a little statue of a character, which should be entirely it's separate thing, if I want an Iron Man lego minifig, I want it to distinguish itself as a Lego figure, and to nicely blend with my other Lego minifigs, which is what they currently achieve with simplicity on the mold, and detailed prints
As a greater example, I agree the mark 1 could use a different helmet mold, one that loos more flat and more like the bucket type of helmet the mark 1 had in the movie, also adding some shoulder bulkiness could be nice, but starting to add accesories to the arms, then the legs, then get rid of the details and volume in the printing in favor of molding those, yeah, we went too far
@Cerri22PG my point is, that sweet spot tends to change when lego makes it so or isn't consistent. Basically it tends to be a lego snobby approach. I don't think it's okay until lego does it themselves and now it's okay kind of thing lol
Custom figures are like the uncanny valley of Lego.
EXCELLENT TOMMYCFIGS WORK. HAPPY HOLIDAYS
No, they aren’t. That’s on you for being scared of people’s creativity.
Even the ones without that much detail look overdetailed and uncanny
Part of the fun and charm of lego is that it's simplified. It ties back into the imagination aspect which is the entire premise of the toy
I’m not against detailed figures, and I do think the official Ultron figure should have a little more bulk to it, and I’m all for seeing Lego figures with more detail, but I think this is a little too far away from the Lego style
exactly, I want a custom lego figure, not a action figure that can stand on studs
I mean, there's a market for everything, and if these guys are happy with extremely detailed minifigs then sure, but wanting them to be included in the actual Lego sets... yeah, no
"If you want this existing product, don't buy it, buy this other product instead because I don't like it"
???
I really wish Lego made a leg type that’s between the avatar and regular legs
Honestly Lego needs more smooth parts to represent more body types
Like
The Mr.
Yes! We need a torso that can accept the Hagrid arms. It has so much potential.
Completely agree
I appreciate how much you talked about lego ultron. I love ultron. I thought he was a perfect character with so much lost potential.
These figures are waaaaay too much overdetailed, i hate when they do that
Huh
wdym?
exactly, many custom minifig creators don’t know when to stop adding more details . Lego has certain style and when they make it too detailed, it gets lost and then it’s just something that doesn’t resembles lego at all.
3:26 custom ultron looks like a mega minifig
I feel like custom companies should try harder to make prints that more match legos style, and some of the custom moulded pieces feel too fake
These are my problems with most customs:
- Printing where LEGO doesn’t (inner legs, back of the legs, hands, etc.)
- Overmolding a piece (tons of panel lines, parts having too many elevation changes (like the Iron Man chest plate going out then back in for the arc reactor), etc.)
- Adding molded pieces where they don’t need to or shouldn’t be (gun holsters on legs, leg armor, arm armor, sometimes stuff that goes on the wrists, etc.)
- Overly detailed prints (too many lines, trying to cram EVERY element of a design onto a figure, etc. This just makes the figure look too busy)
- Non standard prints for faces (many of these just look like bad bootlegs and don’t fit with the LEGO style at all)
- Added articulation (knees, elbows)
- Non standard colors (if LEGO doesn’t produce it, customs shouldn’t use it)
These problems usually compound on each other and make them look less and less like minifigures and more like some cheap bootleg action figure TRYING to be a minifigure.
@@luke_4252 Yes, that's exactly why I prefaced the comment with "these are MY problems with most customs."
There's a market for highly detailed customs, and I'm not about to tell anyone they're right or wrong for being a part of that market.
3:45 …🥶 can’t… Talk… Too… scary
Ultron was like 👁️👁️
Right in the soul
I think there needs to be a torso like the Hagrid coat piece that is shorter. The Hagrid arms are very useful for adding bulk and a wider silhouette, but their current uses are rather limited. A special torso could have wide application and reuse for figures in between minifig and big-fig size. It could even be used with both standard legs and long legs.
If the Lizad custom was in sand green, I think it would look slightly better than the official one
Ultron & Scarlet Witch custom lego figures both look good together when standing with eachother. As I imagine them being on the Avengers Tower Lego. ✨
They made taller body parts for the Na'vi in the Avatar Lego sets, which is pretty neat.
Those minifigures are over $100 if anyones curious. 😬💀
At a certain point there is to much detail and it looses the lego charm at that point just get a marvel legends or stat wars black series figure for your displays.
Or if you really want screen accuracy just buy a hot toys figure
"Don't buy this existing product that combines your love of Lego with your love of detailed figures, just buy detailed figures of a completely different scale and with no compatibility to your current display"
Not trying to be rude but do you really think this is useful advice?
What made LEGO Constraction so appealing was that it's the art of using LEGO pieces to build a character model how you desire.
It's something that isn't possible with the Minifigure, given how they usually aren't the focus build. But Constraction themes like _BIONICLE_ and _Hero Factory_ strive in making the characters the builds. And LEGO sets are usually supposed to be a building toy, not a near-pre-assembled action figure.
(The CMF sets basically have to rely on blind-packaging and repeat purchases to even make a profit from all of the new molds, and stop specific figures from shelf-warming or getting scalped.)
It's just a shame that people still have the sentiment that "Constraction isn't real LEGO", "BIONICLE isn't real LEGO", and "LEGO should stay in their lane and not make action figures", yet, they'll obsessively rage over Minifigures.
💀 the ultron face without helmet
That Lizard is one of the worst things I’ve seen 😭😭 more expensive does not mean better you got robbed my guy and you’re trynna cope
The legs are too big, the arms are too short, the color is off
Fr. Head is too small, arms are too short, and those legs… dear god…
Las impresoras 3d podrán imprimir estas figuras?
The ultron looks like a megablock minifig with the jointed limbs
I love the idea of extended legs with knees
Naaaaaah, to be completely honest, the face under the mask of the custom Ultron is nightmare fuel.
😂
Never missing a TommyCfigs upload
The fact that I had to go to knock off lego minifigures to get an Infinity Ultron is a crime.
Some characters that would benefit from this mold are:
Venom, Bane, Heavy (TF2), Maui...
They can never go too far
In the Sims modding community, there is this concept called "Maxis-matching". Basically, a Maxis-matched mod (such as hair, furniture or clothing) should fit seemlessly into the base game in terms of the 'clay' art style that Maxis came up with. Many modders ignore this to create a more 'detailed' or 'realistic' mod, which often ends up feeling less realistic because of how much it sticks out in the base game. I think that there should be some attempt to stick to the minifigure art style - it actually feels like a more detailed and accurate depiction of a character that way.
These just look like that creepy LEGO Promo for Revenge of the Sith
~ Marco Rubio
Ah revenge of the brick the most what the fuck thing lego ever did with star wars. It makes clone wars heads look like the mona lisa. Still love the short in a so bad it is good way tough.
I like custom figures as novelties, but I really don't think they're the way Lego should be going. Moulded pieces are used when necessary like with ahsoka's tendrils or hagrid's body, but the pieces are always designed in a way that keep with Lego's more simplistic style. Things like the Ultron head and the lizard legs, while more accurate to the source material, just aren't in keeping with Lego. Lego isn't supposed to be fully accurate, it's a stylized version of something we're familiar with, it's its own style entirely so I don't see why we should take that away from it by trying to make it more accurate by giving figures specific pieces that take away from the Lego look.
lego customs? what's next? duplo TSA?
Im in the minority I suppose, but I love most customs with art all around the figure and more details. As long as its correct. WM makes amazing anime figures, and a few other... shops I guess have good print jobs. YMMV I guess. Theres a lot of crap ones out there, but also amazing ones. With Lego prices increasing unnecessarily (looking at you, new tumbler set), the simple looking figs (and stickers) are just looking too lazy.
The custom LEGO RUclipsrs yearn for action figures
People will make figures that look like that but won't touch Mega Construx with a 10 foot pole
3:46 holy fuck this had me dying 💀💀💀💀💀💀
If lego started making custom we'd had to pay the full price of a set just for the figure 😂
custom lego figures are practically moveable funko pops
To me it's both.
Sometimes Lego just doesn't do it right or they cut corners. Sometimes the cmf's are the way to go until they're too detailed.
Lego sometimes uses the art books from movies and that’s why they aren’t accurate most of the time
Okay, that's make sense
Yeah they use concept art most of time, however it'd not justfied if movie came out atleast year prior and minifigures/build isn't accurate.
Lego mini figs with knees is haunting.
Sometimes when a minifigure is too detailed you might as well get a regular action figure
This isn’t too far, THIS IS PEAK LEGO PRODUCT.
Best way to describe the custom figs I want is a mix between following Lego rules completely and the super realistic customs
I don’t understand the issue with it being to detailed? All my LEGOs & mega construx figs are together & it don’t bother me one bit! I definitely think the height & style differences are part of the charm.
As long as they snap on the same bass plate we are GOLDEN! 👌🏼
2:01 wait, what? Is that real info? edit: I guess so, daddy's back.
Yeah they confirmed it
ultron lost all his aura when you took his headpiece off at 3:43 lmao
I thought the lizard captured the lego feel while still being something new, but I know alot of people don't feel that way.
Can we at least agree that the legs are cool? If the rest was simplified, but the legs stayed the same, would that be okay?
When the custom minifigure companies gave them kness
I do think it would be cool if Lego would officially license these custom figures and sell them as their own series
For me, I like super accurate figures for a scene, I hate how goofy most figures look when the character is not just a dude.
I have a custom MK50 Ironman, and it's super cool. Even got the sword and shield with it
That fake ultron makes me wanna barf 🤮
That mark 1 Iron Man and Ultron looks nasty. If you don't dig the Lego style, just buy an action figure. It will stick out like a sore thumb in any Lego display.
The mark 1 looks okay because you can still tell it's Ironman, but I could not tell that was Ultron unless you told me. The neck piece is a big stretch for the mouth.
I want to see the Mr. Incredible Minifigure torso, from the video game, get an official mold. I think it would be really great for some figures like King Pin.
I love seeing Bionicle/Hero Factory MOCs that look like they could be retail sets
Same.
I think the third party and the lego ones need to meed inbetween to fit in more with the lego style while also having some accuracy
It looks like a Bionicle, but in a minifig scale. This is definitely something LEGO would make, but only during the original run of Bionicle
I've been thinking this for ever customs look wrong after a certain point doesn't fit the aesthetic and starts to look uncanny
I am not a big LEGO fan, and and I have almost nothing because its so expensive. But i wanna point out that for customs it should still look like LEGO
produced it.
The ultron reminds me of mini mates figures miss those man
custom moulds are fine, but the thing with customs are that they just arent in "lego style", if lego wanted to make a better ultron figure with longer legs they wouldnt overcomplicate it as much as this company did
Lego Mini-figs need to have some level of simplicity.
Depending on the chsrecter, custom molded accessories and hair are good. Tokisaki kurumi is the best custom lego minifig
This is what Lego needs to be
if they arent lego like then you might as well just get action figures. the over abundance of molds and prints make it look nothing like lego
When they start adding like molded leg and arm things that go over the legs and arms.
They go too far when they cost as much as yours do
It’s like a old mega blocks awesome.
Taking away the Lego style is not understanding the limitations Lego has like over the shoulder or back of leg printing or overly detailed sculpts
I never thought seeing a Lego figure would make me want to make more money…
The problem with customs can sometimes be that, with all that detail, are the customs still even usable? Also, are they fragile? I have a been of offbrand lego and a lot of the minifigs have hands that can just barely attach to normal lego which I find really annoying. This video has some great points about what lego should be doing better and it should be lego doing this because their plastic is so much more durable than what customs usually have.
Imagine if Ultron comes back being Ultron-19 from the comics
There hits a point where its too much molding, lizard and groot hit that point. Now dont get me wrong, i love special pieces, but when you go this crazy it stops feeling like lego and looks more like megablocks, which is what these guys should be aiming for in my opinion. If its not gonna look like lego, make it look like mageblocks halo level of detail
I clicked for Ultron because OH MY GOD HE LOOKS SO MUCH BETTER
I have been, and remain, a hater of all customs. They're all too far.
Not all of them but most do
I think custom prints are fine, as long as they follow the official art direction. With molds, it too often devolves into things we see here.
For me, if a custom looks like it could come in an official set, it's fine.
Anime figures arent that far. The best anime figures are in my opinion "wm blocks and tp brand". They arent like those in the video.
