Imo the bigfig only needs the leg articulation added to bring it in line with the regular minifig, then it would be perfect, you'd be able to sit them down as well as put them in running poses
Yep the final upgrade to the mold. Then again the new Hulk or possible future mold for future bigfigs has studs on it's back wich is something minifigures lack. The first bigfig with posable arms and rists was sort of a prototype for the new mold to keep it stable but with an ajustable head mold leg posabillity would be the next thing to go for. The jw dinosaurs are bigfigs in a way and have conections for limbs so I could definetley see the bigfigs with moveabld legg conection. The first dinosaur molds wer not verry posable compared to jw and dino attack but have had more time to be upgraded compared to bigfigs so some upgrades are still possible for bigfigs.
I’m actually glad with how it turned out. No knees or elbows or a ball jointed neck. It doesn’t need to be a miniature action figure, it just needs the bare minimum of arm and leg articulation, since it would be weird if the big fig had so much articulation, next to a regular mini fig.
@@COLEMLG I agre. I'm not realy demanding moveable legs. Actually sence bigfigs legs are more spaced out compared to minjfig strait leggs the solid build works. If bigfig leggs wer poseable they may have to straten the legs to keep them from breaking too easily.
This is a massive improvement, however I don’t think a ball joint neck is really necessary. Remember each torso piece has a different mould and are meant to be mass produced, so too much articulation may make it too costly. Also I personally think the normal mini figure neck is fine, giving it a ball joint neck is a bit much and makes it inconsistent with other figures. Even when you include the Friends and Duplo themes.
This is so good I’m going to burn down my Red Hulk figure by harnessing the kinetic energy I gain from throwing rocks at squirrels and melt down the Red Hulk into plastic and then I’m going to use my bare hands to make it into a sculpture of a life sized Harrison Ford!
@@XxST3-V3Nxx07 Practice my friend, practice. Ever since the squirrels defiled my pumpkin I was doing basic arithmetic before they could even see colors!
I’ll be real this is perfect as is. Do NOT add elbow, knee, and head ball joint articulation. It needs to still be/feel like Lego, not a standard action figure. I think you genuinely solved the problem right now as is. You’ve perfected it. Nothing more.
I think the current design TheScrapBox made is great. Its got enough articulation to capture the strength most big figs would need, and adding any more joints would make them feel too different from normal MiniFigures. Like - Minifigs have legs that swing forwards and backwards indepednantly, a head that swivels, and arms that can move similar to the legs. So Bigfigs make sense to have the same design, with the added imporvement of Ball Joints to let them be posed slightly more uniquely. Its a great design and one I would love to get my hands on [If I still collected Lego]
It would certainly look better but I can't decide if the ability to swap in replacement sockets if necessary is more valuable. Maybe the arms could be redesigned to cover up the exposed axle holes?
For a prototype this looks really good and could definitely work for big-figs. I think lego could try doing something like this for future big-figs and it could go pretty well. Nice job.
I've thought about this a while ago when i got my first bigfig, they realy just need normal minifig articulation but this balljoint model you're making is really cool!
Wow! Great video! I had no idea big figs were lacking something until I realized just how much these small but numerous changes make a huge difference! They changes seem so obvious too, you made big figs compatible with existing molds of other pieces meaning there's customization potential and part interchangeability
This is actually so cool. That poseability would be amazing for the Hulk climbing building feature in Lego Marvel Avengers. There are so many possibilities for this though. Hulkbuster fights, endgame final battle scenes. Absolutely amazing job.
Looks awesome! Kinda want the articulation to just be like a lego minifigure and these would be probably overwhelming and something a bootleg company produces
Aw man, I've been waiting for this for SO LONG- A REMAKE OF A LEGO BIGFIG! I aloso think that you're so damn RIGHT about how bad the original was- little prints, no articulations and many others, so thank you man!
The additional articulation honestly makes a lot of sense for an action comic/movie superhero minifigure. A lot of people would likely love to pose them in all the ways they can remember and imagine.
imo, this is the perfect amount of articulation. Any more and it would just be a bionicle. The added torso swivel is great because minifigs are small and low detail enough that a simple head rotation/whole body rotation can imply a torso turning, but these larger ones probably need that swivel to have the same effect.
i like the concept but here are some tweaks i would make: reduce the size of the figure overall just enough so the figure can use a standard lego minifigure head. that way, the head can be replaceable on the big fig body, as well as be able to utilize existing head accessories instead of needing exclusive pieces for a big fig head. this allows for more customization. remove the molded toes and fingers and use prints instead. model them to look like a standard minifigures hands and feet but only bigger to keep in style of lego. the hands should be made to hold a cylinder technic pin piece so it still has functionality for playing and allows more creativity for building custom weapons and tools.
Honestly I would just get a knockoff version but you way works too. You’d be surprised how creative they get with the big figs. Pretty impressive first try. Wish my budget and room space allowed me to work on something like that.
Well, on the one hand, I'm on the oppinion that big fig would be enought to have as much articulation as a normal, so head look around/rotate, shoulder and wrist rotate, and then added leg rotatetion, side movement less necesary... But on the other hand, your version looks really great and I see the idea behind big figs having a bit more posebility...😃 Either way, really nice work 👍
I feel like a ball joint neck would probably be too much - the current solution for the neck feels much more in line with minfigs (and has the benefit that you could also put normal heads on it for different proportions or to use large helmet pieces or something). That said, the idea you floated for the single-axis elbow and knee joints sounds really cool, I feel like that would work really well.
Make more and shift the shoulder joint down just a little bit in the arm that will fix the shoulder being down a little bit too far down problem. Also, if you take just a Lego ball joint, take part of it, put it where you put that neck joint. Take the head out a ball joint sized hole that connects the head that problem fixed.
I'm currently on the "before we begin" portion, but: I feel the bigfigs should have a comparable level of articulation and customizability comparable to that of their smaller counterparts
Masterful job with the red hulk you ended up with! It may be just my opinion, but I don't feel like there should be more articulation points than that of a regular minifigure. I'd definitely be interested to see how you add additional articulation points, but again, I think what you ended up with already is fantastic.
I like the idea for the legs a lot! While the arms being so posable is really awesome, I don't really think Lego needs to change them as they already currently work pretty much the same way that minifigure arms work
The only changes from this design that I would call 'necessary' would be making the hair removable and filling/covering the holes on the insides of the forearms. Maybe raising the shoulders a tad would help. I feel like you've got a choice between either having elbows and knees (while permanently integrating the sockets into the limbs, which would have the bonus effect of being able to remove the unused axle holes) or keeping the sockets removable so you can swap out cracked ones.
I really like big figs like Killow, Lego Batman Movie Bane, and Road Hog. I think the print details and doubke/triple molding makes up for no leg articulation.
the main problom with BigFigs is the base mold was made for the Hulk not a more basic caricature, if I make a standerd Big Fig all brown it still looks like the Hulk but if I make a standard Minifigure, Mini-doll, Duplo Figure, or even a Bionicle all brown it's not recognisabule
I think the ideal big-fig would be one with very plain shaped pieces so that Lego could just print on it like a regular minifigure. That would mean no molded toe details (sadly) and no molded shorts, and the muscle details would need to be smoothed out or completely removed to work better for more characters and be easier to print on, but it would make it so that Lego could use the same pieces for every big-fig like they do with minifigures instead of making a completely new mold every time they need a new big-fig.
ok so my biggest concern are those ball joints, its just one of those balls on the cross peg thing, and those come off all the time, so that might not be the best choice. also elbows and knees are a bit overkill, I'd say just give them ankles and that would be enough extra joints along with the hips and such you already give 'em. but yeah dang that's cool. I really do wonder why Lego doesn't do it like that.
how wonderful! congratulations, really. you maintained the structure of the figure without forcing it! in my opinion you should stop here, because afterward with too many joints it could look a bit like a Lego Bionicle
If you have ever seen the recent Fortnite battle pass. You would a certain banana man with wolverines powers called peelverine. Would you 3d print this masterpiece if you were given the chance.
Imo the bigfig only needs the leg articulation added to bring it in line with the regular minifig, then it would be perfect, you'd be able to sit them down as well as put them in running poses
Maybe an anti-stud at the bottom of the waist section so you could actually sit it down securely?
Also separatable pelvis like minifigures have would be good too, for customization
Right? I don’t think it needs a bunch of articulation, because it’s still lego, but it’d be nice if it aligned more with the mini figure.
Yep the final upgrade to the mold. Then again the new Hulk or possible future mold for future bigfigs has studs on it's back wich is something minifigures lack. Yeah, maybe just have its legs be the same mono-pose sculpts but with new cuts to make it work like the normal lego minifig legs.
I’m actually glad with how it turned out. No knees or elbows or a ball jointed neck. It doesn’t need to be a miniature action figure, it just needs the bare minimum of arm and leg articulation, since it would be weird if the big fig had so much articulation, next to a regular mini fig.
I agree, I honestly love the way it moves, I think lego would make look smoother and more similar to current bigfigs
Agreed it can be improved but the core is completed, even more articulation would make it lame
