I sometimes say, looking back at this album is like looking back through time at the Hubble Deep Field image, glimpses of the early universe in all it´s beauty and awe. Nightwish is the most incredible band I have ever come across, it´s not even close.
You need to hear this wonderful song re-recorded on the Over The Hills And Far Away ep, with Tarja and Tony from Sonata Arctica singing. Simply spectacular. 🥰
You're absolutely right that Tuomas' genius and therefore the signs of what was latent within him, were there right from the start. Even the three demo songs had hints. Nightwish have evolved with every album, and Human Nature is very different from Angels Fall First, but still you can hear the connection. Thanks for going through this rarely reacted album. Hopefully you can include the eponymous song that never made it to the original album. More Tuomas here. I never really understood why he felt he couldn't sing he's really not that bad. His composing was so amazing from the very beginning, so beyond his years! Tarja's vocals were raw and not yet mature yet stunning! This is why I fell in love with this band! For me hearing the newer tracks just doesn't have that same magic.
Tuomas is the male voice. He also sang on three other songs; Beauty and the Beast, The Carpenter, and Once Upon a Troubador, (which only appears on the limited first edition and the Korean edition). Interesting note on this album… originally recorded as an extended demo, trying to get a record deal, which they did, with Spinefarm, who liked it so much, they released it as-is - No remix or anything. And, they used Tuomas’s’ original liner notes, which included his home address on the first pressing.
Yeah, that address... Tuomas: "I think this happened about 15 years ago. My parents used to live in countryside house back then, in middle of nowhere. Suddenly someone knocked at their door. Outside they found a russian girl with two big luggages. She said she sold everything she had and said she is going to move in with my parents and marry me." "Dad called me there, and it took days to solve this. Girl came from Russia to Kitee using a train, and then she took a cab to get to my parents. In the end we managed to get a return ticket for her, and we have not heard about her ever since. That might have been a prime example of how far people can go. She was certain that we were somehow destined to be together."

The guy singing is indeed Tuomas! Yes, Nightwish that started with only 3 members, with Tuomas, Tarja and Empu, started with a small seed, not expecting or Knowing WHAT would come out of Nightwish for them in the future.
Seed is definetely right word. After Angels Fall First they did 7 gigs - it wasn't even possible to do much more because Emppu and Jukka were doing military service at the time. Tarja and Tuomas did a TV interview on the Jyrki program, which was very popular at the time and, in my opinion, one of the most important things why metal became such a big deal in Finland. Don't know if it's been mentioned to you before, but you liked Auri so I thought I'd leave this here... have you heard of Eye of Melian? Not exactly a band, more of a project of musicians from different bands. They released their first album Legends of Light a few months ago, and it's good. Perhaps you should look into it. All of the tracks are available on YT, and all are very good. But if you want a specific suggestion.. Wings of the Dawn. :) You will probably recognize some sounds you're already familiar with.
