She is one of the most beautiful and powerful voice I ever heard nostalgic , hope , youth , classy - elegance , angel , wrath , demonic , fragile , stratospheric who else can be like this
Toumas wrote this song to hes father, who passed away in 2021, the song is not a sad song really, its a celebration to the lives lived by the ones we loved and lost .. i think this was actually the first song Tuomas wrote for the new album..
My personal song of the year 2024. Top 3 in my NW rating. Whatever guard you have up, when Floor's voice comes in she cut's thru it like a fresh sharpened butcher knife and get's you right into your soul and while your bleeding out you feel satisfied. When Floor goes into her emotional mode you can sleep in the finnish winter outside in the woods and still be warmed by her voice and feel comfortable. Much Love from Germany to you and your passionate reactions!
She did record this song and the whole album 6 WEEKS after given birth to her second child❤ This song leaves me speachless everytime. In the context of the three latest albums it's a perfect capstone❣️ Amen
Tuomas said that he put aside 2 weeks at Floor's home studio, to get all of her vocals completed - she stood at the mic, 6 weeks after giving birth to Lucy, and completed everything in 6 days keeping in mind that she would have to take care of Lucy and sit from time to time due to some lingering pain from the birth - simply incredible!
Members of the London Philharmonic Orchestra were reinvited, the band were glad to see so many familiar faces. Starting deep and low... [This sounds like her solo album, I think Tuomas likes the variety of her singing. Floor said that she chokes up too easily with this song, the band rewinds, during the sessions, to let her recover.] Mmm, the warmth of her voice. “Last night brought the heaviest of snows” That sad piano about to sink below the ice. “Melting the songs of old” A favourite bench, with a view. Reminiscences, love of the souls that have gone before. Tuomas wrote this in memory of his father. The pocket watch to wind... The old style film projector, a “Magic Lantern”. The old flickering movies, like memories. Floor soaring away. Celebration of their lives, rather than mourning. Lots of Tuomas déjà vu references to older songs. Then Troy drifts in, with his soft voice, he made up the word, so his pronunciation, is our guide, _right at the end_ of the album. :) Pope Leo Xlll, who served until his death in 1903 at the age of 93. The restored, stabilised and colourised old movies inspired Tuomas.
Tuomas' father passed away during the writing of the Yesterwynde album. Believe this is the first song he wrote after. Just a beautiful song. Floor's vocals are even more amazing here because she recorded them for the entire album, in her home studio, about 6 weeks after 2nd daughter Lucy was born. Tuomas said they allotted 2 weeks for those, Floor did them all in 6 days. Yes. the male vocal is Troy. Not sure, it may have been his tin whistle. First album recorded since Marko left, Jukka Koskinen on bass. Troy's vocal role has expanded as a result, as you have heard The 4th single from the new album, and last track on the record. The song ends with the projector winding down sound, the album's first track starts with the projector winding up sound. 2nd Yesterwynde single you have done. "Perfume Of the Timeless" and "An Ocean of Strange Islands" are the other 2 . My favorites of the non singles are "The Antikythera Mechanism" and "The Children Of 'Ata".
Thanks Vhris for all of the great info! I knew about the baby and Floor doing the recording sooner than they thought she could. This band is so epic. Just amazing musicians.
Yes it is Troy and what I love in that section is that Floor transitioned from singing lead to singing backing vocals long before Troy comes in and we only understand at that point why she is singing less loud and humming. I am not sure if I have seen that trick before or if it is something Tuomas invented.
Hauntingly beautiful. Floor's voice is like a warm soft blanket draped gently around your soul. She is, simply put, charm, grace and beauty personified. Astonishing.
Lovely reaction. Final song from the final album of the trilogy. It feels to me like someone saying goodbye to family and friends as their life comes to the end. Loads of beautiful imagery in the lyrics of seeing the end, of reminding those we love that we will always be present, of lamenting the unfinished things we leave behind (as is always the case), and then walking "to the trees". Since Tuomas is famous for writing lyrics for multiple interpretations I could also see this song where the narrator is death personified, much like the way the lyrics in Music were. A third way I see it is that the lyrics aren't necessarily about a person but are instead a metaphor for humanity and our walk through the eons of our existence which would fit well with the themes of the album trilogy. A number of references to Auri and other Nightwish songs. "I am in the light and flood" and " I am in the four winds" IMO are shout outs to the Auri songs Light and Flood and The Name of the Wind, very beautiful instrumental that have a similar feel. For me the line "I am you who climbed off your back" gives me Decades in the Sun vibes and of course "To the meadows I go" is tapping into the same symbolism and meaning as Meadows of Heaven. Heartachingly beautiful song and a perfect bookend to the album and trilogy. When I played it for my 23 year old daughter she hugged me so tight. A beautiful tribute to Tuomas's father and all that are the lantern light for our journey through life. I agree with Tuomas, if we have lived a life of joy and meaning then we shouldn't be sad at the end but celebrate a life well lived. I think this song and Epica's Tides of Time will be the songs for my funeral when I pass.
They've released an orchestral version of all the albums since Once. I've got the Special Editions & Earbooks. There's an orchestral version, AND an instrumental (not available anywhere else) version in the Yesterwynde Earbook. Ridiculously expensive, but absolutely worth it ❤ (Amazon Music have got the album mixed in Dolby Atmos, Spotify have a lot of catching up to do)

Thanks for sharing your reaction to a song that Tuomas wrote to celebrate the life of his father that passed away in 2021. For me it empowers us to recognize our connection to nature and one another, ultimately signifying that even in times of uncertainty, despair & sorrow, there is beauty and hope to be found under the glow of the lanternlight. This song is so emotional that even Floor needed several takes to record her vocals as she started crying over and over again. P.S. Their new album "Yesterwynde" is a sonic masterpiece.

Hey again, Bob. 68-year-old Nightwish fan here in Phoenix. I absolutely love this entire album, and this last song is so gorgeous that it gives me chills every time I listen to it. Floor is incredible and Troy's mellow vocals added such a nice touch at the end. Tuomas is at the top of his game on the compositions throughout this album. Thank you for this wonderful reaction.
I understand Floor had a bit of a job recording this and was in tears, I think they left some in if you look closely about the last time she sings Lantern light. Tuomas said this, quote: "The last song on the album, Lanternlight, might fool you into thinking it's a sad song, but it's actually a love song and ends up on a very positive vibe. If you have somebody who has lived a very happy and a really long life, it's a moment of celebration and not of grief. This is the message we want to send."
Hi Bob, hope you're doing well. When I first heard this song, it hit me quite hard. The melody, the message, Floor's voice; it's all just so touching. It quickly became one of my absolute favorites on this album. I hope you'll also give 'An Ocean of Strange Islands' a listen. Typical Nightwish, this song has it all.
Tuomas Holopainen wrote this song after his father died, but stated that it is not sad but uplifting as his father had a long and a well spent life. He mixed fragments of early films in the background to show the lives of people not very long ago (late 19th century) but at the same time far away. About (part of) the movie scenes in the background: I recognized pope Leo XIII and wiki is saying: "Leo XIII, who was born in 1810 and was thus 86 years old in 1896, is considered the earliest-born person ever to be captured on film. The images of him are well-known, and recently were enhanced and colorized on-line.” ruclips.net/video/3IVQ-1t92hA/видео.htmlsi=hXFM4fDfXhhyaWan
Hey Bob, so glad you got a chance to listen to this phenomenal piece of music. I think calling it a “song” doesn’t really do it justice. This is without a doubt the most beautiful piece I have heard in a very long time. Things that I love about this is the opening section with Floor singing in her low range. She produces such a rich and warm sound and I feel like it wrapped me in a warm blanket. Again Tuomas uses such great compositional techniques throughout. As a composer it really speaks to my soul. And then there’s the lyrics that do bring up loss but at the same time celebrates life. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve listened to this.
Such a beautiful piece of music, it goes straight through your soul... Can't imagine how Floor did this, recording the album only six week after giving birth and trying to sing without crying... An unexpected but amazing closure of this album (and the trilogy), very fitting I think.
Floor told in an interview with the Charismatic voice that her singing on this album was the last part needed for the album because she was pregnant. It was recorded at her home studio 6 weeks post partum. She could not even stand without pain and her thoughts were constantly drifting to the newborn in the room next to the studio. She is just from another world. After singing she would rest or feed the baby whilst the other band members were mixing it all together. I think she also said that she did most songs in one take as she could not stand for long. She just wanted to say that she is experienced enough that can sing now on automatic pilot, without bothering about techniques even in difficult circumstances.
I´m an old fart and I recently lost my last friend out of three I had. Now there is no one at my age to go suddenly and say hey what´s up could you make some coffee and let´s sit down and talk everything between heaven and earth. This Lantern Light totally got me. Anyway I´m glad we are blessed with Tuomas an Floor, and Nightwish.
Sorry to hear about your friend. I can see how this would hit you given the message in the song. Hang in there and you are always welcome here in the community. Thank you for taking the time to comment.
Lanternlight is breathtakingly gorgeous ❣️ Not able to listen to this with dry eyes, it goes straight to your soul. It’s so fragile and strong at the same time. What a gorgeous piece of music composed by Tuomas and so emotionally sung by Floor. Tuomas said that Lanternlight is a song of love to celebrate live of the people that passed. In this case mainly his dad. My favorite song from the new album followed by An Ocean of Strange Islands.
So beautiful 🤍 Loved watching your appreciation of this very special musical art. A dedication to Tuomas Holopainen’s father, Pentti Holopainen who passed away in 2021. Tuomas has spoken about having “no religion” but was born into a Catholic background - many Nightwish songs describe his journey through life, faith & religions. The film footage towards the end of the song shows Pope Leo XIII who was born in March 1810. The film of him is from the 1890's, and people claim he was the earliest born person on moving film. 🎞️ Then there is The Gregorian chant (also included in The Greatest Show on Earth (the history of music section). “Gregorian Chant - This style of chanting is not hampered by restrictions of time and measure, and that gives it the irresistible power it possesses over the feelings, as an eloquent discourse carries away the heart. Gregorian music undergoes no change; like Latin, the language of the Church, it is always and everywhere the same”. Lanternlight is the last song on this album & The Triology of the last 3 albums. Listen to this album Yesterwynde from beginning to end in order of the track listing. (600 music tracks have been mixed). Life, timelessness, petrichor, weave, evocative lyrics that interconnected elements throughout this album Yesterwynde. If you Google a CTV News article and watch their video which sums up Petrichor - you’ will see all the Easter Eggs connecting through the Yesterwynde album songs - (particularly Perfume of the Timeless). What an epic listening journey & life journey! Enjoy these talented musicians. ✨
Thanks for thr kind words and background. Such a great song and I learned in the live chat today about this one being for his father. No wonder it was so emotional.
Such an emotional piece, and I think possibly the most beautiful song I've ever heard. As an old school Metalhead I'm more than a little surprised to find that probably for the first time ever, a ballad is my favourite song on an album. Having said that, the entire album is a masterpiece, I think one of my favourite Nightwish albums 🤘
Pure Floor. I love this song. Btw, this song was Floor's pick for a single, it made her cry when she first heard it (I had the same reaction to this song, it's so touching).
There are two more singles that have been released. So different. Earliest release was Perfume of the Timeless and then An Ocean of Strange Islands. Both worth a listen if not a reaction !!
the monotonous sound=voice, goes back to mankind, who used their voice in this way to obtain singing sounds that we later know in all heights and depths.🤟🏻🤟🏻 Tuomas used this sound again in his masterpiece The Greatest show on Earth🤟🏻🤟🏻🎶🎶
Nice reaction. This new album has fantastic tracks throughout. Overall, it's more symphonic than usual, but it's great music. And Floor....well she's Floor Jansen!
Hi Bob I LOVE Floor's lower register. This is a Beautiful song sung by a Beautiful person. Hi Bob I like Troy's part. Did you notice the H on her finger and Hannes has a F in yhe same place
I have played the album many, many times in each version and this is my favourite song. Ithas become one of my top 6 NW songs. Watch David K's analysis of the video, for explanation of much of the videography. I encourage anyone to listen to the instrumental and the orchestral versions of the album. This song is just as moving in both versions if you are attuned to music. In fact all the songs reveal greater connections with older NW than you might at first hear from the full version. A similar sentiment is found in the previous track but one, Hiraeth. For info, Tuomas says the standout track is The Children of 'Ata. He also thinks the album is best heard from start to finish in order. I think I agree as it has what in classical music we might refer to as a cyclic architecture. One reviewer said: "Lanternlight" plays the role of concluding tear-jerker, but with a sincerity and finesse that gently reinforce the humanistic thrust of this whole record. Tuomas also says: "The whole theme of the album is time, history, humanism, mortality. And it has a really optimistic vibe going through it all." - I think that time and history element comes out strongly in this song. About Floor's voice: Personally I have always thought (unlike many) that Floor's lowest register, though she says it is most difficult for her, really shines as my favourite part of her range. It is like velvet. But when she first changes to the high register, after all that low register, it really hits and is a "tingle factor" moment for me. Troy is a perfect complement in this song, both in harmony and in his lead vocal at the end . Just a gorgeous, beautiful, heartrending song. This song is a love song to our forefathers - Tuomas started writing the album in Jan 2021 and his father died 6 Feb only a few short weeks later. This song is latgely inspired by that but the whole album is about our links to the past. So this one is full of references to past albums and other songs on this slbum. Its about all our ancestors still being with us: atoms and molecules recycled into the streams, the trees, the moss under your feet, the pebbles, the oceans In other words, the sort of lyricism I only find in Tuomas and in Jackson Browne.
As often is the case for me not my style of music, but she has a very nice voice for it. These days the strings are probably synthesized but still sound good. Kind of reminds me of a church choir in sound and pace. Funny how that film projector reminded me of 8th grade running the class projectors and fixing broken film strips, thinking I was so special lol.
The strings are real, they have regularly partnered with musicians from the London Philharmonic and conductor Pip Williams. Pip was not able to work on this record, so James Shearman conducted, who has also worked with LPO. A choir and children's choirs from London are also regular partners.

Just FYI but your reaction to Lovebites Epilogue is still members only and I think it’s been up for a month so I wasn’t sure you’d forgotten to release it to everyone. Might change the title as I couldn’t find it using Epilogue as a search word.😊
This gem really hits straight to your soul. 🥹 And the white dressed clergyman at the end of Kodak film is pope Leo XIII, the first filmed pope and the firstly born filmed human..

It quickly became one of my absolute favorites on this album. I hope you'll also give 'An Ocean of Strange Islands' a listen. Typical Nightwish, this song has it all.
Hey Martine! Nice to hear from you! I’m good hope you are too. This was a killer song. I’ll be checking the others out too. They are incredible!
Tuomas Holopainen wrote this song after his father died, but stated that it is not sad but uplifting as his father had a long and a well spent life. He mixed fragments of early films in the background to show the lives of people not very long ago (late 19th century) but at the same time far away.
About (part of) the movie scenes in the background: I recognized pope Leo XIII and wiki is saying:
"Leo XIII, who was born in 1810 and was thus 86 years old in 1896, is considered the earliest-born person ever to be captured on film. The images of him are well-known, and recently were enhanced and colorized on-line.”

Thanks I appreciate it!
After numerous listens, I've settled on the clarinet as the source of those final high notes.
I play clarinet and even though you made a good guess it is not a clarinet. That is a similar range though so your guess is a great one.
I agree it is a phenomenal piece. I do love that low range Floor used in this one. Like you said it is warm and wraps you up in it.
Such a beautiful piece of music, it goes straight through your soul... Can't imagine how Floor did this, recording the album only six week after giving birth and trying to sing without crying... An unexpected but amazing closure of this album (and the trilogy), very fitting I think.
I have no idea either. The pressure from singing would cause some discomfort for sure. She’s pretty tough.
I saw that too. God bless her it had to be hard but you wouldn’t know it by the way she sang.
I´m an old fart and I recently lost my last friend out of three I had. Now there is no one at my age to go suddenly and say hey what´s up could you make some coffee and
let´s sit down and talk everything between heaven and earth.
Lanternlight is breathtakingly gorgeous ❣️
Not able to listen to this with dry eyes, it goes straight to your soul.
It is so emotional you could tell from just listening to fantastic piece.
Floor gives the birds singing lessons!🎸🤘
🤗🍒🤘🏻 Great Job Bob, what an amazing song huh 🎶🎼 and yes it was Troy
Thanks it was amazing!
She has a beautiful voice!
She does Dixie. I just finished editing that Trooper video by the Hu. Should be out before the end of the year.
I love the Hu string instruments. I know in another life. I was a Mongolian.
@ lol
So beautiful 🤍
Loved watching your appreciation of this very special musical art.
Then there is The Gregorian chant (also included in The Greatest Show on Earth (the history of music section).
Yes its troy
Such an emotional piece, and I think possibly the most beautiful song I've ever heard. As an old school Metalhead I'm more than a little surprised to find that probably for the first time ever, a ballad is my favourite song on an album. Having said that, the entire album is a masterpiece, I think one of my favourite Nightwish albums 🤘
Great comments Jim!
Thanks ❤❤❤
Great reaction! Thanks you.
Thanks for watching!
Floor belongs on the Mt Rushmore of Vocalist
Yes
Even though Nightwish won't be touring for a few years, my hope is that Floor will add this song to her live shows.
That would be incredible live.
Pure Floor. I love this song.
Btw, this song was Floor's pick for a single, it made her cry when she first heard it (I had the same reaction to this song, it's so touching).
It is packed with emotion for sure.
There are two more singles that have been released. So different. Earliest release was Perfume of the Timeless and then An Ocean of Strange Islands. Both worth a listen if not a reaction !!
Thanks Clive! Nice to hear from you! I’ll be checking those out at some point.
PERFECTION 🤘Gothic metal front women🤘
Nightwish- Floor Jansen 🎶 Draconian- Heike Langhans🎶
That everything fits together so well as a Jigsaw puzzle.
Well said.
thanks ❤
Thank you for watching! Love the Italian division. I’m half Italian.
@@bobcieslinski 👍
Just haunting...
the monotonous sound=voice, goes back to mankind, who used their voice in this way to obtain singing sounds that we later know in all heights and depths.🤟🏻🤟🏻 Tuomas used this sound again in his masterpiece The Greatest show on Earth🤟🏻🤟🏻🎶🎶
Thanks!
Oops, you may want to check the spelling of the song name in the thumbnail and title.
Good catch not sure what happened. Thank you!
Nice reaction. This new album has fantastic tracks throughout. Overall, it's more symphonic than usual, but it's great music. And Floor....well she's Floor Jansen!
Thanks! Floor is a true powerhouse!
Hi Bob I LOVE Floor's lower register. This is a Beautiful song sung by a Beautiful person. Hi Bob I like Troy's part. Did you notice the H on her finger and Hannes has a F in yhe same place
You are right about her voice being incredible! I did not see it.
Its about all our ancestors still being with us: atoms and molecules recycled into the streams, the trees, the moss under your feet, the pebbles, the oceans
In other words, the sort of lyricism I only find in Tuomas and in Jackson Browne.
Thanks for the awesome info Nick!
Hearts Alone from Floor had an incredible Floor piano..
yeah Floorgasm for my 1st time.
So good!
It is Troy yes. Magnificent song
A choir and children's choirs from London are also regular partners.
lol I didn’t know you did that in school. Pretty cool Guy is a techie. 😂
Someone told me about the children’s choir. Pretty cool touch.
@@bobcieslinski lol, back then the ultimate was when Home Economics needed a project. Ah, a room full of nothing but girls, lol! But unfortunately I was pretty shy around girls back then. Riding my dirt bike was more fun!
@ nice you were ahead of your time doing that with all the girls in the room. Honestly riding the dirt bike was probably more fun. 😂less drama.
Yep, it's Troy!
Thanks!
Yes it is Troy
Thanks Bonovin!
👍👍😍😍🤘🤘
So very beautiful, but the sad thing is... the live version will be jawdropping times 100... and they are keeping it from us... nice reaction, thank you, Sir...
Thanks you! I see you have a pug picture. We have had 3 and our last one Lily just passed away 2 days ago. Great dogs!
So sad to hear that, my condolences, Sir... ! We had 2, but our Phantom past away 8 months ago because of PLE... the picture is of our sweet 9 year old Django... sadly, comming monday he will go to hospital for his third operation on his inner ear...we are hoping for the best, but... Thanks for your reply Sir! @bobcieslinski

😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
3:19 and the look.
It’s soft but still Nightwish. Lol
❤️🎶🤗❤️🎶
You should react to Sever by the band Red
"PERFECTION"....Floor recorded this six weeks after giving birth to Lucy....
That’s incredible. She had to be uncomfortable still.
Complete symphonic instruments from a metal band
So unique.
Mr.C this is Isla omg hii
Hi Isla!

Just FYI but your reaction to Lovebites Epilogue is still members only and I think it’s been up for a month so I wasn’t sure you’d forgotten to release it to everyone. Might change the title as I couldn’t find it using Epilogue as a search word.😊
Thanks Guy! It has been there for awhile. I wasn’t sure if it should stay or go out to everyone else. What’s your thoughts? It was your pick.
@@bobcieslinski It's a pretty popular Lovebites song, so I think going out to everyone would be good :)
@@guygourley2411you got it.
This gem really hits straight to your soul. 🥹
And the white dressed clergyman at the end of Kodak film is pope Leo XIII, the first filmed pope and the firstly born filmed human..
Sure does
The album start and ends with the sound of the projector 😊
It’s a cool effect.
