  • 30 years ago this very month Scots-Canadian businessman Fergus McCann swept into Celtic Park and secured the clubs very existence with an eleventh hour investment that would alter the course of Celtic’s history for ever.
    A move such as that however can’t be engineered by just one man and many figures played a key role in what eventually took place on that day back on the 4th of March 1994.
    In this special new series by The Celtic Exchange we speak to some of those individuals as we bring you the inside stories of what unfolded during that incredible time in Celtic history.
    We’re looking at the story from all angles and first up is Matt McGlone, one of five individuals who formed the “Celts For Change” pressure group in a bid to mobilise supporters in their battle to wrestle back control of the club from those who had run it perilously close to extinction.

    Great stuff Tino having Matt on discussing the momentous events in late 1993 and early 1994 re Celts For Change.I remember it all so well,i attended most meetings with my late brother,gave out leaflets(to a lot of abuse) from some fans&boycotted that game referred to. I was just a foot soldier helping in the cause.Matt and the other 4 guys are to this day owed a huge amount of gratitude from Celtic fans old and young all over the world. This was all done because we cared so much about our club.I still care so much even as a 64 year old Celtic Grandad retired and living far away now in the Philippines.Thank the good lord for the internet and i can still watch and support my beloved Celtic..🍀🍀

      Well done to you Gerald for getting involved, if you handed out leaflets near the Jungle, I probably took one off you. I attended a few of the meetings too, I was in total despair at that time, like many Celtic fans. You and others were key to the success of Celtic today, well done.

      I supported the change too, but never boycotted any games, particularly the Dundee game that CfC claimed less than 10,000 entered CP.
      The team needed a lot of support at this time, not empty stands.

    Well I must admit,that was one of if not the best podcast I’ve ever listened to. An incredible insight from Matt and what a debt of gratitude we owe these guys!! Must admit I have become really disillusioned with our club lately and how the people at the top run it. This season has been a slog and I’ve found it hard to get up for the games and believe in this team or manager. Watchin this really struck a chord with me, and was actually pretty emotional thinkin about what the club means to so many people. Matt and so many fans actions back then have shaped the club to what we see now. The standards that we hold this club and team to are in a large part due to Fergus and fans like matts sacrifices! In a funny wae this has galvanised me for the run in this season! Great job guys 👍🏼👍🏼

    Us Celtic fans owe guys like Matt and a lot of others one big debt of gratitude, every question ever asked was always for the good and better of Celtic football club never about personal financial gain unlike the board members prior to Fergus McCanns takeover, the money lost to the club over those years to these parasites was mind blowing. As a diehard Tim never missing a home game I would always get the sunday papers and check the official attendances at games and new early on what these so called custodians of the club were all about, for any of them to call themselves Celtic supporters would be a real kick in the teeth to any real Celtic fan. And it is high time something was in place at Celtic Park to thank Mr Fergus McCann for what he did for Glasgow Celtic Football Club.

    Matt and the Celts For Change guys deserve a helluva lot of credit or we'd have ended up like our mutant enemies across the Clyde and could've been liquidated, but as Fergus said that would've been embarrassing for Celtic so we paid our debts. The club from Ibrox want to claim the trophies and titles from a dead club but don't want to pay the debts accrued, now that is embarrassing on so many levels just like that club and their support they're an embarrassment.

    I’m sorry to burst the bubble but saving Celtic will still be there for a long long time.My opinion of the situation is that they have to find a way of getting a system that is honest and fair to the Scottish game and the chances of establishing an honest and open set up would require a major enquiry into the present system where they all sit comfortably within their own wee circle.

    Ceøtic need to address their current slide into obscurity.
    Season after season the squad gets worse and worse, yet you still keep supporting blindly.
    First thing you need to do is use your influence to reform the league.

    • @TheCelticExchange
      @TheCelticExchange  Месяц назад

      'Slide into obscurity?!' - I know things can always improve @sanderson and in Europe particularly but think your comment's a bit OTT
      Celtic have won 37 trophies since the year 2000. Its hardly obscurity.

    • @sandersson2813
      @sandersson2813 Месяц назад

      @@TheCelticExchange You cannot deny that the decline of the squad standard since Martin O Neill is obvious.
      Besides counting tinpot trophies in the least competitive football country in history is hardly a reason to delude yourself all is hunky dory. Its An indictment rather than an achievement.
      No one is banging down the door to sign and the club has slowly become a very low step on the career and a feeder club to the likes of Southampton, but what you should be worried about is that there is no reason and no impetus for this to improve.
      The board, the Celtic business model, the stature, state and reputation of the Scottish league as well as it's standing on the European stage has taken a massive kick in the balls.
      In all honesty, where do you see Celtic and Scottish league in five years, it's not going to be better is it?, especially if you don't use your influence as a club to improve the league.
      Managed decline, and you still buy your season tickets without criticism or complaint.
