I went through the young offender system all of it for most of my teens. It’s a tough world a criminal record makes it very difficult to get a decent job also get a name it sticks to you people don’t forget. The simple answer don’t offend I’m nearly 60 now so I’m talking from a lifetime of experience. If your young and skint stop and think there are opportunities and options at 16 I couldent see past my nose just wanted to meet my immediate needs ie decent clothes ect ect.Seek help and advice stay away from bad influence people who are negative give bad advice.I had no one no father no help I just got used by people I thought where my Freinds because I needed acceptance.Look I’m not asking for charity or for tears or sympathy I made bad choices suffered the consequences what I’m saying is if your young regardless of your circumstances if you plan and think get the right advice you will get a job I’ve worked for 40 years.Life is better when you give to your community and your not a target or looking over your shoulder don’t give up.

If this help system went national then then more people would offend knowing that doing so will land the a decent job they deserve. I have to struggle for every penny on minimum wage. I wish a help system got me a well paid job at a grafic disighn company. Not gona happen.

I don't think that young adults from aged 18-25 should be treated differently in the justice system as they are now adults and should still always be treated as adults just like other adults in the justice system. It would just be confusing and stupid I think if young adults were treated differently as they are not children anymore and they are now old enough to make their own choices and be able to do what they want.

They are in fact different from adults. Their brains have a different structure and are not fully developed yet (until the age of 25 years), they have a different hormonal profile and those hormones have been shown to influence behavior (e.g. risk taking behavior).
These differences can be used to influence them in a positive way. Youth brains are more "neuroplastic" (i.e. flexible in adapting changes) which makes therapy more impactful and longer-lasting than in adults (just like children learn new things easily while it gets harder and harder with age). So, handling youth offenders using therapy is much more effective than just putting them in jails.
Jails are questionable institutions anyway. The recidivism rates are enormous, so all you gain from putting someone into jail is that they'll commit a crime again once they are out. Might as well use the same amount of resources (money, people) to achieve something better than creating a repeat offender. The way jails are set up right now they are just a waste of resources.

But what if the evidence says that yes, they are in fact different? Like, biologically different?
