I have to say that this version is my favorite out of the ones posted. Everything just sounds so... perfect. You guys are simply amazing. Excellent work. :) Could listen to this forever.
We've been doing the same arrangement of this song for about 15 years now. A lot of times if it sounds different, it could be individual Clefs' placement or the placement of mics. Both of those can determine which parts come out more. Either way, this is one of our classic arrangements and favorite songs, so we don't mess with it. We hope you enjoy it.
I am deftly amazed at how Barker changes from the master gangsta rapper to this sweet serenading (albeit trolling around) guy. I just love these guys. This is beyond words!
Yes - they graduated and left, as did Brandon Jackson Baird, Pablo Vega, and Andrew Barker - all strong voices. But this year's group still has super strong voices and they've added more through auditions to replace the 5 they lost. Check out their new song videos like Viva La Vida, Better Man, Beautiful Day, We Weren't crazy, etc.
Not usually, no. They do have the alums up on stage at each concert to sing the alma mater, fight song, etc. but then so does the audience! They've done it at a wedding or funeral maybe, but nothing formal that I'm aware of. One thing to think about is that they release a new CD every two years, but they record and accumulate songs for the next one EVERY semester..... SOOOOOOOOO, the next release due out this April will have songs on it from Anoop, Mikush, etc.... (check website in April)
Yes - that's Brandon Jackson Baird, and he was one of their bass voices. For an even more amazing demonstration of his range, check him out in "Autumn Leaves" on this same channel. Brandon has yet another tremendous talent - he arranged many/influenced most of the Clefs songs during his tenure, and I may be biased but he's responsible for some stunning arrangements, unique in most of college a cappella. He's also a wonderful person, and we're proud to call him our friend.
In the past year, the Clefs have started using a handheld mic to enhance the volume/sound of vocal percussion on many songs. My guess is that, although Charles is doing vocal percussion here and probably did it also on the song they just finished, they didn't want/need the extra volume they'd get from the mic for this one, so he just held it to his side vs. finding a mic stand...
Ok, u're officially the faster replier EVER!!! I think it's a little hard transitioning between vocalists that u're familiar with and new ones, but I must say the vids that you recommended me watch were quite amazing! Charles Askew is one talented fella! Well, all the celfs are. I do miss the alums though. Do they ever come back and perform together?
As far as I know, there is just one *epic* arrangement of this, done by a Clef almost 20 years ago I think. Of course, there are different soloists every year, so maybe that is part of hearing it differently. I'll ask a current Clef to comment if there is more to add about this.
@MrAchilles412 Brandon Jackson Baird is second from the left at the beginning, with a solo at 2:00. He's normally the deep, deep bass of the group, so to snag a tenor part in the song is a trip. Watch his song, "Autumn Leaves" (search words Clef Autumn) here on my channel, as compared to say "Ridin Dirty/Ride Wit Me" here too (search words Clef ridin) the whole way through and you'll see what we mean...
Okay.. just going to question the mic Charles has that he holds by his side the hole time. I'm thinking I know the reason behind it, but figured I'd ask.
I like how Brandon goes out there and is like, "Screw it, even though I'm the baddest power base this side of the Mississippi River I'm gonna sing a killer gentle tenor part...because I can."
I Love this song!
Completely addicted to this.
ok i don't understand how every single one of them have *perfect* voices. crystal clear-and they're not even music majors right? so talented.
this makes me miss school soooo much! only two more months and then i'm back at the hill!!
I REALLY like how everyone gets a chance to solo in this song....it is really powerful. I think the clefs should definitely do this more often!
a fun as heck performance too.
this is so beautiful.
i would have definitely cried if i was there and i knew eve carson.
These gentlemen are so talented!Great voices!
Oh, Clefs.
Gives me goosebumps every single time I hear it.
this makes me happy:)
I love this so much, its so pretty.

David Mikush is quite special...
D. you're part of this.

The beanpole all the way to the left.
the guy who sings @ 1: 49 looks like paulie bleaker from juno
i miss charles. so hot
aka Michael Cera. Yeah, Cameron does resemble him quite a bit.
which 1 is charles?
Anyone else hear snoring during this? In the audience? Or is that just me? Great song lol. Starting question was not sarcastic or rhetorical
anoop xoxoxoxox
That's David telling Jay to pay attention to what he's singing. He was probably a little bit off.
is he the 1 with the weird hair thats in his eyes the whole time?
how horrible. i think i read about her on the news. it becomes more personal when i see her firneds on satge. it was just a news story till now.
