      "Her male ally in the battle for truth is Jordan Peterson. You should definatelly take a look at him too."
      Imagine a "debate" of the type Sam Harris and Peterson had; but between Camille and Peterson, or a threesome with Steven Pinker... and let them go at it until they quit on their own!!
      What is this shit where all their videos "run out of time" and "we have to end it"?? They can just clip them or make three or five videos of it. Let them go deep and get lost and messy into their own dialogs!! Let them get desperate and resurface as they fight for a way back and acknowledge this point or that... another thing I dislike about the normal podcasters is the phrase "we need to move on..." This is seldom the case, I mean sure, it is necessary when it becomes obvious they have diametrically different DEFINITIONS or OPINIONS on an issue, like Peterson and Harris on the nature of Truth... but in general they can speak and push and pull until they nuance a subject into submission.

    she has some basic truths and insights down in ways that are very sorely, and scarily, lacking today. her foundation and instincts have a maturity that a young culture like the usa doesn't have yet. she's a bridge to the better and more truly democratic usa, which yet was w us some in the early to mid 20th century, and with our more intact links to european cultures. her blind spots, including a machismo and tendency towards violence, are partly related to her lesbianism. as a side note: madonna, whose early music paglia adores, referred to her as "a dirty old man"! ha. cheap shot, but kinda funny.

    So Camille Paglia has truly had her second act. Well unfortunately for her there are still some of us who remember her absolutely repellent and truly abhorrent pro NAMBLA propaganda , she was a firm believer in their agenda in the mid 1990s. Something she now does not speak about at all now and no other journalists seem to be able to find the time to read her full works nor her carefully edited and selected bullet points.This is an individual who in her collection of essays Vamps and Tramps expounded that she felt that child abuse could be 'beneficial' to a child and also it is the subsequent trials and criminal case that follows said assault that is 'harmful'. Not the abuse. And this is the free thinking intellectual that is lauded? 🤔🙄

    • @wolfwind1
      @wolfwind1 2 года назад +1

      This is interesting information. I will research this. I'm very surprised to hear this and am anxious about. She is clearly a singular public intellectual of high importance and impact for years in multiple areas. And in all the stuff I've listened to or read from the last 10 to 15 years nothing is even slightly alluded to this much less stated. Also, in 2015 she came out as very anti-transitioning of children and stated unequivocally it was child abuse and criminal behavior on adults /provider's parts. Multiple clips on YT. She was very early to be anti social transition, blockers, cross sex hormones or any body surgeries. Feels it should only be 18 or much older. I will research. I will say that there is a clear shared history between anarchism, queer theory and pedophilia. Too much to go into in a reply. She might have got caught up in the queer theorists of the day and what they were pushing but i would say definitely not now. She hates Foucault and he himself was a huge activist for eliminating the age of consent along with other queer theorists.

    While it's still true about multigenerational vacationing, (My own Irish catholic family does in wildwood). And it's still true, although thinning, that in neighborhoods like south philly, people still live more outwardly, some might say nosey. But just like its name, the east river drive has changed dramatically to the Kelly drive. When I was a boy we'd bike from manayunk to the art museum. All Along the way picnics going on. All black people. Now most of the picnic tables have been removed. And people with expensive high tech hammocks lounge around. The park has been gentrified.

      But I'm sure there's other parks where lower than middle class people hang. Like FDR(the lakes) and Belmont platue

    1:22:36 " 'Ms.' was a very important contribution to the language. It took time to be absorbed. But this political agitation to change everyday common speech, *are you **_kidding_** me* ? People shouldn't be putting up with this for *one second.* What kind of *nonsense* is this? Absolute *nonsense!* These people who are searching for their own identity and want to impose on others, that's not my philosophy as a libertarian. That is an *invasion, intrusion* into other people's personal rights. Why? The English Language is owned by *everyone!* It was created by great artists: Chaucer and Shakespeare and Wordsworth and Joyce and so on! How *dare* you, you sniveling little *maniacs,* to tell us how we're going to use pronouns! Go take a hike, I say to them!"

      NOTE: this was in response to a questioner at 1:20:53 who *incorrectly* claimed JBP refused to use special pronouns. At that time JBP said he *would* use those pronouns if requested. He opposed this being required by LAW, making it (as he put it) "compelled speech".

      "Buttinskies" - American slang; a "buttinsky" is someone who 'butts in" to something that doesn't concern them. To apply the term to Mothers Against Drunk Driving is appalling, and you'll notice how quickly she jumped away from the subject when she realized what had just come out of her mouth. She was getting carried away with her own brilliance and the adulation of the audience.

    Foucault (sic?) writings on the use of power in the middle ages to exercise authority - traumatizing public executions - and the move to punish behind jail/mental institutions is, in my view, worthy of study/reading the guy - read sexual personae in 1993 - read the Odyssey around the same time - both R-classics now (2023) thx ...

    She says that Foucault is not worth a damn... and I tend to agree, though I remember reading him and he made an impression for a while... so can any PRO Foucault people name a few things they would defend him on?? His original contributions, that whole deconstruction area has to have a few good things people can say about it, like Sartre etc.

      deconstruction was not Invented by Foucault though .. at least Foucault wrote clearly than Butler.. but I cant find praises other than that.
