Thing about Ursula is they HAVE done an upgraded version. A singing doll they released back in 2017 and re-released recently. She has rooted hair and everything. They could just make a non-singing version of that!
That Ursula mold isn't just out dated. It's Ancient! That Ursula doll was created by a German toy company called SIMBA toys back in 2006. You can actually find the old 2006 German commercial that features that Ursula doll here on RUclips. The Germans put wires in Ursula's tentacles so she could stand on her own and you could pose her. When Disney Store acquired the old German molds back in 2012 the first thing they did was remove the wires to save money. King Tritons articulated body is recycled from the old Limited edition Ariel / Triton doll set. Somewhere around 2015 the new people that started working for Disney Store gave all the Disney princes dolls flat duck feet. Ariel was saved from the flat feet because if the toes aren't pointed it would be difficult to get her legs into the fabric tail so instead they toned down/ eliminated Ariel's blush, and eyeshade makeup. The older Ariel doll in your video is from around 2011. An updated face mold was created in 2013 to celebrate the Blu ray release of the film. The new people that took over in 2015 hated the Disney princes bodies because they had thin / long waists. I guess they finally got around to making the little mermaids waist line less little, with this new curvy body which kinda makes her less movie accurate, but she's still cute . . . for now at least.
