Another thing that I really liked about Dolores' design is that she whispers due to her gift, which probably due to the loudness of the world around her. In this song they emphasized that by choosing to have quiet background music so every little sound and movement she does seem louder and more noticeable.

Something I realized after like the fifth listen: Pepa said "Bruno walked in" and in that moment Felix ads "Thunder"
While it seems like dramatic effect, i don't think it is. I think the Thunder _actually_ started before Bruno even said anything, showing that it was just Pepa being nervous on her Wedding day - as most brides tend to be!! But in her head she rewrote it so that it was Bruno saying it that started it all.

In truth I've kind of found Disney's more recent musicals rather dull when it came to the actual songs. The last one where I enjoyed all the songs was actually Tangled, but after that there would only be maybe one or two per movie I would remember. With Encanto, I loved all of them, especially this one. Not only are they catchy, but diferent from each other.

I think it's natural to compare scores when they are written by the same person or the movies are similar but I think Encanto is weak in comparison to Moana (also by Lin) and Coco (the vibe of the story is similar imo).

My personal favourite part of this song is Dolores' part. She can sympathize with Bruno because both of them are gifted with somewhat of a curse, both having to know too much. Bruno can see stuff that he doesn't want it need to see, including his way vision where he could see the house breaking. But also, it wasn't definite, he just knew that because of his reputation, people will take it as the house is going to break. Dolores can hear everything, which can be useful, but also, she heard stuff she sure as hell don't want to hear. I'm her part of the song she says "Its a heavy lift with a gift so humbling" such shows how although it can be useful, there are plenty of downsides to both Dolores and Bruno's gifts. I also like how you can see Bruno along the balcony during Dolores' part. He's creeping along there for a bit, then at the end when she says "Do you understand?" Bruno is kinda moving his head to the beat. Although it does make me wonder how he felt for the rest of the sing, considering it was literally just a diss track towards him.

I like your insights about the song :)
The thing i noticed too is that isabela's "vision" was the only "positive" one because she is still stuck playing that perfect child even though he tells her it will grow like the grape that thrives on the vine (alluding to her being able to grow other things besides flores de mayo and roses later on) you skipped the second Dolores part (copyright issues i get it :)) where she confesses her love for mariano or alludes to it heavily while it then transitions with flowers to isabela, as if isabela heard her and then told mirabel to not say anything about it since she is still trying to play perfect for abuela and what she believes to be the better future for the encanto. At the end of the movie mirabel and isabela get dolores with mariano and high five each other which makes me believe my theory is right! (That isabella hears dolores singing about mariano and then tells mirabel to not say anything)

4:03 Something you don't seem to notice, during Delores's first part if you look in the background you can see a green light up on the second floor, and for about 2 seconds you can see Bruno actually pop up and look down at them and bob his head like he's vibing to the tune. Thats an even more big reveal then what Delores is singing in the foreground
And even just the green light is a big reveal since just a bit further into the song Camillo turns into Bruno with the green eye glow and everything, so now we associate Bruno with the color green and that earlier bit starts to make sense
The one thing I didn't like though was that both reveals happened on a Brother-Sister duo. Usually when one connects 2 people so closely related by blood like that (and you can't get much closer then brother and sister) to 1 singular person like that there's a deeper meaning, some tragic back story or something. Edit: Kay just watched the og scene from the movie, the sounds r there but not as prominent as shown here, the footsteps and whooshes are louder and more distracting here but the og has it more toned down so it doesn’t distract from the music but still contributes a sense of realism. You won’t notice it unless you’re rlly paying attention to them cause they blend into the song

  • @OtakuJuanma2
    @OtakuJuanma2 2 года назад +1

I like how the first four parts have less and less knowledge of Bruno.
Pepa and Felix know Bruno first hand, they tell of a first hand encounter "we don't talk about him, but we have this one story about him so you stop asking"
Dolores kinda has first hand experience, she was 11 when Bruno hid (He hides when Maribel is 5, canonically she's 15. Dolores is 21) so she has very vague memories of Bruno being around, but she can still hear him, she knows he's around, but what he does or how he actually is is a mystery to her. She still remembers the one prophecy tho.
Camilo is the same age as Maribel, 5 when Bruno left. All he knows about Bruno is that he's some sort of boogyman we don't talk about, thus he's a 7 foot tall zombie with an army of rats..
Then the townsfolk only know that Bruno gave them one prophecy they didn't like.
Isabela os the eldest so she can remember Bruno as loosely as Dolores, but that's not important, she just says what he prophecised about her, something she actually didn't like, but makes it seem like she does.

Usually watching disney movie when the characters sing its like they are in another realm ! But this its like its is included in the development of the movie I really understood it in the song “what else can I do” where when she finishes her song all the mess she created was still here! To show that they didn’t detach the music from the storyline

also why is he generalizing and saying “south american music” when in reality the style of music is more specific to how colombian music truly is…yeah we have salsa, cumbia but way different than other south american countries, the tempo, the instruments we use are really unique especially since the story is based on the rural part of the country. He should know that as a “musician”.

I love that everyone gets a bad omen in the song but not Isabella because Bruno thought her dream was to have a perfect life. But we later found it is not her dream it is a prison so Bruno did end up giving her a bit of bad omen like everyone else. I feel like it it was good foreshadowing for another reveal. And when everyone is singing over each in the end as Mirabel puts the pieces together. They all use their verses that they had already used in the song beforehand but Isabella gets a new line. Right Before the song ends you can hear her sing “I’m Fine” “I’m Fine”

On the "Girl who could hear everything" Two things: 1) If you go back to watch where the rats go behind the picture, you can see her door in the background next to it. Bruno was living in her walls. 2) When she says she "equates him to the sound of falling sand" is because she hears what she believes is falling sand when he's around however when we meet Bruno it's not falling sand, it Bruno throwing the sand over his shoulder for good luck which he probably does on a regular basis. Just thought you might want to know those lyrics were picked with purpose not just a little foreshadowing.

People associate this with the Pixar theory. And the theory for this movie is that Bruno sees a vision in the future about the trash planet in wall-e and so he builds a ship. And is the first captain in wal-e. You can see a photo on the wall in wal-e. But it doesn’t really look like him. The character in the photo is very over weight and aged. So it’s difficult to see. About 7/10 times lol because COSTEÑOS as in from the Northern Atlantic Coast of Colombia aka "El Caribe Colombiano" talk about 895 miles per minute. Lol and we dont all have the same accent so imagine that!!! In some parts of Colombia you will get that Caribbean vibe like you do in Cuba, DR and PR. 😉💪🏼 Those African and Indigenous roots are no joke! So yeah, not all Colombians speak like Paisas or Rolos do, which is probably the ones you're thinking of lol anyway, great video!!

Thanks! Yeah, the Colombians I knew were from Cali and Bogota. That makes sense that by the Caribe they would talk a lot more quickly lol. So, I guess that canonically La Familia Madrigal is from that specific area of Colombia. Great insight!

@@KevinBessey Ahhhh then yes, that would be why lol Cali and Bogota sound about right and I actually think the movie wanted to incorporate ALL REGIONS given the difference in outfits and foods, and of course, music genres lol. I'd say Encanto itself is like a village of people from all over Colombia who had to flee from the violence like their Abuela did. Like a refuge...? So as a Colombian I think the Madrigals represent everyone, not just on clothing but also skin tones and hair styles. However, I'm almost certain that Pepa's family was meant to be the obvious Caribbean influence 😂 given their dancing and clothing. But that's my theory, I could be totally wrong lol
