Unfortunately, a majority of people love to assume the worst as it gives them a sense of superiority over the ones they are judging. So the payoff far outweighs the desire to know about others.

@@chelsiereid138 I'm so sorry to hear that. I have soft spot for blind people especially when my niece was born. She was born without eyes, she has bilateral Anophthalmia, a condition in which there is total absence of the actual eyes.

She have such a calm demeanor yet very commanding and worthy of our attention.
It's quite a difference to watch someone in the government that doesn't add any spin. I wish more of the politicians talked like this too, we might actually learn something useful.
This is what I expect of a supreme court justice. Calm, down to earth, always the one to bring the conversation back to the point.

It only means that you didn't watch her confirmation hearing.
Her nomination wasn't political. It was only merit based; for she's the most qualified justice on the court.
Republicans tried to tear her down, but at the end of the day, voted to confirm her.

I met her when I was 10 in Puerto Rico. My mom loved her and made me go with her to a book reading. I didn’t really understand a lot of what she was talking about but my mom told me that she was legendary so i trusted her. When me and my mom talked to her for a book signing, Sonia asked what i wanted to do with my life. I was 10 i didn’t know what to say, but then she said “Don’t worry, you have time. Just make sure you do something you love”. She signed the book and while I was 10 and was super confused, now that i think about it, she was awesome!

I love this. I almost lost my husband when his blood sugar dropped so low he was almost incoherently stumbling around outside his work outside a busy mall. Hundreds of people passed him, and though he was drunk or high or whatever. By the time I got to him and made it to a taco bell to get him food, grabbed the taco and came back to the car he had stopped responding and was just blankly staring. I called 911, the came and saved his life. Someone who 3 minutes ago was gone, was back like nothing had happened. Ut a brief nap. I'm starting to cry just remembering that day and thinking that thousands of people would have watched him die if I weren't picking him up that day. I wasnt aware of this movement, the just ask....but after that day I now ask if I see someone who looks out of place if they are allright. I have given out countless waters,milks, meals, hugs, prayers, whatever it was that someone needed at time to help them. And when I got older and got sick myself, I always make sure I inform those who will interact with me what I have and what it can cause, so that if there is ever a time when I cant speak or explain what is happening or what I need, those who love or just generally care about me can do what they can to help me. Thank you for your words and for the hard work and thoughtfulness you put into what you.

I'm a Republican but I gotta say I found Justice Sotomayor incredibly insightful.
What a class act. Whilst I usually disagree with her decisions, I certainly respect her and admire her.
Why do you have to say you are Republican and state that you disagree with her decisions? Are you supposed to automatically oppose or dislike Democrats and announce any departure from this concept. It's a shame that you have to comment that you are someone on the other side who can listen objectively and appreciate her viewpoint and intelligence, even when you don't agree with her and then people complain that you did that, which is why you did that.

This was beautiful, I'm autistic and clinically depressed. My symptoms makes it very hard when I'm at work because I work in customer service. I never told my my boss or coworkers but on my bad days(which is most), they can tell something is "off" about me, and I over here them talking about me coming up with theories, at another job people thought I was a drug addict. Idk how to interrupt their way of thinking because I focus on my job but it's hard trying to ignore but painfully stressful even thinking about having a conversation explaining who I am, and I feel like I shouldn't even have to because they never just ask!
Hey if your city has a Vocational Rehabilitation place, they may be able to help you...i have depression, anxiety and other mental illnesses, and their job centers around making sure people with difficulties get the correct treatment when it comes to workplace environments and disability-workplace-rights and such....! Just a thought 🙂
Thank you for sharing that. I have a brother who I believe has Asbergers but he was never diagnosed & he is in his 50's so I am able to understand your perspective. Yet, I understand the other side as well. Perhaps those people don't know how to ask; perhaps they don't want to make you uncomfortable or overstep their bounds. Perhaps they are too caught up in themselves or the problems in their own lives to reach out and see someone else. Fear is something that limits all of us in so many ways. Fear of rejection or being made fun of, yet we will never know if we don't take the step and give someone a chance. Consider this: just because someone looks "normal" does not mean they are because that doesn't exist. Every last one of us is flawed in some way. I will think of you Jonathan and hope that each day you find a strength that you can hold on to.
Hello, fellow autie! If you're in the US, you can talk to your employer's HR department about your disabilities (assuming they're documented) to request the accommodations you're entitled to. HR would be required to keep everything confidential except for telling your supervisors what accommodations you get. (At least that's the way it's supposed to work. I know there are companies that don't follow the rules.) I hope your depression gets better, and I hope you find a work environment that's conducive to productivity for you.
Being one with chronic depression and also having some physical difficulties but not strongly visible, I get judged by other men.
They look at me with eyes that say, "What's wrong with this guy? Why is he USING welfare. He can work. ...." and yadda yadda. I have no choice. I hate being on disability. I have to jump through hoops (although I don't blame having to do that), and everytime I have to explain why I need assistance I feel shame, especially the looks and raised eyebrow from some of the social workers themselves.
Then people more in my acquaintance circly wonder why I'm so withdrawn all the time. It's a stigma on a stigma.
I do see kids today slowly moving to a less judgemental stance but there is a very long way to go.
LogKnow if we ask politely, showing that we care and be there if any helps needed, surely we won’t get a terse response?
I've said it before but I'll say it again, no one gets as good of interviews as Trevor. he gets the BEST conversations going with the MOST interesting people. here i just thought he was a pretty (ok down right gorgeous) face when he first started. damn i underestimated him.

Trevor what an insight to have Judge Sotomayor on your show....we need more people like her as role models for our children.........to this day because of my mom's diabetes.... I carried wrapped candy in my purse all the time!

This woman judged my mock trial case when I was in middle school I think back in 2008 for a Law debate program I was in. Such an amazingly patient and brilliant woman she is!

“Differently abled” an awesome phrase. I’m encouraged as a mom that loves teaching children that learn differently. I’ve met college educated women of color including law graduates living in housing projects. I’m inspired to keep helping women close the pay inequality gap.

I’m glad I listened to this story. She gave me inspiration when she spoke about her mother. I’m in my 40’s and I just received an associate degree in May, and I will have my Bachelors degree by next year. I keep thinking why am I doing this? But I’m going to keep going and hopefully inspire my children to achieve more. Thank you. ☺️

Trevor has some of the most enlightening guest interviews. This is one of the many unforgettable ones. What a remarkable woman.
Ooooh she just broke my heart in so many pieces, in a good way, Her story resonate with me but I didn’t get why at first, I don’t have diabetes or others conditions she talk about, but at 10:32, she said dyslexia and my heart skip a bite, I was bullied all of my school years for that by every teachers I had including my moms who was my teachers when I was 10 years old. I hate being dyslexic so much, and at the time, nobody’s know to much bout this topic. I’m thankful for my philosophy professor when I was 17 who said to me that my writing was very good but different and maybe I should see a specialist because He thoughts maybe I was dyslexic. He was right, and knowledge is power, even if I can’t correct it, he help me understand that I wasn’t stupid or lazy or dumb, my brain just work a little differently than others peoples.
:) My Brother is dyslexic too. One of the things I've read about people who have trouble processing words and spelling, etc. is the fact that Dyslexic People are often entrepreneurs. People who start their own businesses and become very successful. Why? Because they have a different way of looking at things. They have to work harder to do the "normal" things that others do so easily and I wonder if it gives them a sort of strength that other poeple do not develop.
I couldn't be more proud of my Brother these days. He has built his own company from scratch and employs over fifteen people - and here he was, so frustrated in second grade. He felt "dumb" too and he was never dumb. He was just smart in a different way. (hug) Happy New Year. :)

Just Me 👩🎤I hear you and I too understand. My youngest son has a few acronyms attached to his school and medical records including dyslexia. He had a difficult time all throughout his youth. As his mom, I never gave up believing that he was and still is a unique individual. Today he is a fireman 🚒 and pursuing the paramedic/rescue part of his career.

My youngest son was murdered at the age of 30. Up to the day of his death he felt less than because he had Dyslexia and ADHD. I tried everything I knew to do and volunteered in his classroom. Special Education Teacher's did little then, beyond trying to meet the IEP requirements. Giving up on himself and school took him through Juvenile Court and spiraled down to where the streets can lead you. All he had was watching me and his oldest brother endure the death of his brother next to him in age. And I had my own brushes with chronic lupus flare- ups. My oldest and I both have become strengthened by our losses, tenacity and favored memories. This interview is inspirational and covered a lot of bases.🙏🏽♥️☮️🕊️

Almost every justice, when interviewed, talks about their collegiate relationship with the other justices. The media always portrays them as two factions, but they're not.... most decisions are not 5-4. Thanks to this channel for posting the long version of the interview.

So much wisdom in this interview! media, and constant brodcasting are ruining the country and people's lives too. While transparency is good this is not always the best way to do it. The whole world including our personal lives have turned into a never ending show.
I remember discovering her back in like 2012 when I had to pick a Hispanic to do a presentation about for Spanish class in college, and I've been kind of following her progress since. I've taught about her to my students and plan to own her books. 🥰🇵🇷

Trevor's humbleness was amazing, he knew who he was in front of. He seemed like he wanted to give her the respect she deserved, not only because she is a supreme justice but also because she is a exceptional human being.
Thank you for interviews like this. She's an incredibly respectable woman, what an honor to interview her! I wish her (and of course RBG!!) wonderful health and happiness. We need her and RBG to fight for the *correct* side.

Brings tears to my eye and will definitely be buying this book for my kids. My oldest with a micro preemie with a lot of health problems he overcame but has Asperger's Syndrome. He is so smart and unique and literally one of the kindest individuals I have ever had in my life but is extremely socially awkward and even though he is 11 is as tall as me now he's never really had a friend outside of his family and it breaks my heart. My second child who I just thought had middle child syndrome and I was so focused on my oldest turned out to have ADHD and doesn't struggle socially but does academically. People like this writing books like this really can make a difference and children's lives and could also teach other children to understand people that are not like them.
Ever since I read her book, “My Beloved World “, I have so admired Judge Sotomayor. To hear her voice and her way of expressing herself fills me with so much pride as a woman and as a Puertorican. Thank you Trevor Noah for this interview.. you are my favorite!
Assumptions are like horrible bacteria or virus. I only came to know about this wonderful women on wondery's imagined life podcast. One of the great things that obama did is to appoint this amazing person as supreme court justice.

I saved the life of an airline passenger who was going into insulin shock- he left the plane but was standing to one side as everyone disembarked and as I walked by him an alarm in my head went off, his color was awful and he was diaphoretic- and so I went up to him and - just asked! Are you diabetic?!! And the answer was yes- I asked him how much insulin he'd had- which apparently for some reason was too much- so I holler at the stewardess for a wheelchair and orange juice and sugar! Lol wham bam! "call a doctor"! The ladies jumped in action and took over after I gave him the IJ and filled them in and turned and left- and after I got halfway down the exit way I realized what I'd just done and literally was astounded! Mind you I was a nurse but I always relied on the RNs than myself! The difference between insulin shock and low blood sugar are so alike I never relied on my knowledge instead a machine- but in this case there was no time! And I was able to subconsciously access the situation correctly- by JUST ASKING!
These are two of my favorite people... Justice Sotomayor who is such a huge inspiration to me as a woman & definitely as a Puertorican AND, of course, Trevor Noah who has to be one of the best interviewers of our time because of how he really listens, respects, reacts & learns intentionally from each and every guest he has on his show❣👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Emotional and enlightening. The cadence of a reflective human is invigorating. The modern world dynamics detached us from simplicity and transcendence. Justice Sotomayor seems recalcitrant to those forces.
