    I may well be mistaken, but I learnt in school that Marabi came well before the 40s as suggested in this video. It was a music which formed early 1900s in the shebeens following the urbanisation of South Africans around typically the mining hotspots like Witwatersrand. In its most embryonic form, it was played on a simple foot pedal organ of sorts using primary chord progressions, similar to this track. If anyone has any objections or additions to make, please shout! :)

      This is what I have read too, but I have read very little. I need to learn about early marabi, specifically 1920's. I would like to hear marabi from that period. Any suggestions?
