This whole album reminds me of a decidedly miserable time in my life, but this song especially dredges up bad memories. I used to listen to it on my drive to work daily, 8 years ago... All I can say is I'm so glad I don't have that job anymore.

My life has never been the same since SWANS and despite their recent efforts which are astonishing the best liveshow ever was this one, from Paradiso Amsterdam 1997. Love you Michael

its hard to believe this is a live recording. it sounds fantastic. that last third of the track absolutely devastates me - nothing is saddening like it is.

Sheer crushing power... the strange thing is I've been listening to Swans since the late 80s but only recently discovered this incredible album.
For all the talk of this being like a drug....that is the point. Gira doesn't do drugs and stopped taking them a long time ago. Most of the unbridled emotion in this is all straight from the brain...and that in itself could be even more disturbing. I love Swans

Agree mostly, apart from the 'brain' part. Gira's brain is involved, but imo, and from what he says, it's mostly visceral. Most people won't play from the pit of their stomach or genitals, which is why Swans own.

Damn, it's ages since I saw Mulholland Drive. It's one of the creepiest films ever made, but also stupendously beautiful. No-one does that combination like Lynch.
Absolute Lynch devotee, whatever some feminists may say. Personally, I think he has deep sympathy for his female characters - Laura Palmer in 'Fire Walk With Me' is basically me as a teenager - I used to cry buckets every time I watched it, because it was so relatable.

Incredible performance by Sheryl Lee. I think I prefer Moira Kelly to Lara Flynn Boyle as Donna - she does cute and innocent but clever and determined so well.
Have you seen Fire Walk With Me: The Missing Pieces? Moira Kelly has a couple of fantastic scenes that didn't make the movie.

I love this track and knew it from Swans are Dead as a live version. Can I ask where this one came from? The live version is 16:57 whereas this one is 14:58 and sounds a little crisper. I wasn't aware of a studio version… just curious, thank you posting!
I have been asking me the same since I listened this one and comparing it with the original from Swans are Dead, and I presume is the same song, but this one probably edited by the person who uploaded the video, that is why has a better audio quality. If I am wrong, anybody is free to say.
