- Swans are Dead (Black Disc) version of Blood Promise, which is easily one of my favourite songs of all time.
edit: can't believe i was 14 when i uploaded this masterpiece of a song to RUclips because I couldn't find it anywhere lmao, still love it a lot tho
Blood Promise
Swans
Produced by Michael Gira
Album: The Great Annihilator
[Live Only]
We are poor little lambs who have lost our way
Baa, baa, baa
[Verse 1]
When silence falls
And light remains
And time is born
Beneath the Sun
I'll hide your name
Inside a word
And paint your eyes
With false perception
And I feel your mind
In everything
And every breath
Destroys a sound
And I never will follow
A false sensation
And I'll always believe
Your blood promise
[Refrain]
Na na na
Na na
Na na na
Na na
Na na na
Na na
Na na na
Na na
[Verse 2]
And every breath
I stole from you
And I never will see
Your broken body
And you never have spoken
An unclear word
And I'll never betray
Your blood promise
[Refrain]
Na na na na
Na na na
Na na na na
Na na na
Na na na na
Na na na
Na na na na
Na na na
[Live Only]
[Instrumental]
Don't stop!
Well, we are done
And we'd like to thank you for being here-
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

very dark lyrics however there was an atonement for this passion
I love the final
AAAAAAAAA
Baa baa baa naa naaa naa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
"Well, we're done, and we'd like to thank you for being here-

iconic Gira moment

@teirvsedei It was almost certainly an edit together of two completely different concerts.
@@jacobmorris2877 its from the end of this: ruclips.net/video/pfeEThv3gTI/видео.html&ab_channel=ImaginalComponent
The final boss of rock 'n roll music in its profound sense of physicality.
6:43 that was some ancient celestial hymn he sang lol so fucking awesome. Call it depressing whatever but to me this is music to my soul
if you listen close to the guitar at the end of the song you can hear how its slightly out of tune compared to just 7 minutes prior, it shows how hard they beat the shit out of those strings. bravo
Pretty sure the bassist said he broke one or two strings during this performance.
@@koollegged5739 where did you see this
@@thenero7583 I read it in Sacrifice And Transcendence, the oral history of Swans
When I first started my university courses, back in 2010 and 2011, I used to travel for two hours eveyday to get to the campus.
I lived far away, or the school was far away, one of the two.
Needless to say, I would take my Ipod with me.
I was going through a serious Swans kick back then, just newly discovering their genius music.
Soon enough, those excursions in the name of education and me being on time to class (which I never was anyway) became hardcore listening sessions devoted to this record and "Soundtracks for the Blind" I was playing them to death, sometimes going into a deep trance that was hard to come of.
It was hard to pretend I wanted to listen to anything anybody had to say after experiencing such stellar works of art.
Suddenly the mundane commuting and public transportation seemed fun and almost something that I was looking forward to, even more so than going to class.
Since I was always late, once I got to campus I would take major strolls around and keep listening to more.
I became obsessed.
It was almost too good.
I couldn't help it.
I was enthralled.
I always listened to some more on the way back and on bathroom breaks.
I ended up ditching that class only to come back at the end of the course and pass it on one test.
Swans became my favorite band.
And I was about to really see what it was all about.
This sounds like a perfect copypasta hahaha
This song, played on this same tour at the 9:30 Club, 1997, was the most profound live music experience of my life. No words can do justice to it. It was an annihilation.
One of the greatest music of all time
This track always leaves me speechless. My absolute favorite from Swans Are Dead.
It doesn't get any better then this. And I don't think it ever will
Hmmmm….
This is one of the sublime-est pieces of music in the history of music, regardless of century.
I've dicovered Swans with "Blind" and I must say that this is the best thing I find in last year, just next to Protomartyr. Unique and extreme music, not for every one I think.
just recently heard this one but soundtracks was my first ever exposure to the band 98' Helpless child really sticks out
Props for Protomartyr!
Thank you for getting me into Protomartyr!
Thanks for mentioning Protomartyr, I think I'm liking it.
This evokes certain feelings in me I never knew I could feel before
the guitar at the end is so haunting and hollow, my favorite part i think. Of course as well Gira screaming
i keep coming back to this live version its eerily heart breaking im fixated with this song and the ultimate covenant that sealed the BIBLE
Heard this last maybe close to a decade ago, so glad to hear it again.
Man a decade and half
"We are all little lambs who have lost our way"
Thanks, been looking for this for years. Appears to be from "The Whiffenpoof Song". See ruclips.net/video/bnO4gUkTiCY/видео.html (from about 1'23")

@@nremac It's literally the sample, but thanks anyway
love this song in this version and have listened to it at least once a week for the past year.
Haha I'm sure it has been 4 years now. Same for me
Incredible, beautiful, just perfection in musical form.
right again mr kirk
It's almost as if Gira himself trolls us there at the very end lol
Fucking drunk. Need him to taklk. 10 minutes
Gives me goosebumps every single time
at one point, back in 97, in london, england, at the last show on that tour, this was the last track they were ever gonna play live.
actually this isn't the recording of the last 97 performance, this is ruclips.net/video/TpO3b1p3EjY/видео.html
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAa
If there's anybody out there who can show me a band better than Swans I am all ears. Somehow I highly doubt anybody could.
Try boris. They have long epic songs similar to swans. There ablum flood is worth your time
As well as Godspeed You Black Emperor.
They even came in on r/swans top 10 artists (behind swans of course lol).
Stereotypically so, their 2000 album “Lift Your Skinny Fists To Heaven Like Attenaes To The Sky” is an absolute MASTERCLASS in Post-Rock / Ambient Music. Absolutely MASTERFUL.
I would second Godspeed You! Black Emperor. I love Boris but honestly I don't think they reach this level
Boredoms!!! You gotta check out Boredoms! Japanese band that I'd say gets equally as large sounding as Swans, different vibe but defo a similar breed of beast. I'd recommend Super AE, Vision Creation New Sun, and Super Roots 9
Also I'd point you in the direction of This Heat, British experimental rock from the late 70's and early 80's that is a bit more experimental in the studio than Swans but defo have a similar appeal
Outside of 'rock' bands, people like Glenn Branca and Rhys Chatham are important ancestors to bands like Swans and Sonic Youth, and for sure paved the way for them
@@harrysmith5340 thank you so much
How does this exist?

@@thecloudofunknowing danke :)
I reckon this is the best live album ever made.
This version feels like it would've fit snug on SFTB
This is their best track. Few if any Swans songs have this much substance
We'd like to thank you-

Couldn‘t believe they played part of this the other night in Germany
WHAT THEY DID??
They were amazing at the Somerville Theater in Boston.
I was at the Final Concert...LA2....met Gira outside and went to an after party with Swans and Nick Cave. Hutchence was there a few months before he went away.
How was this song? This recording is from their 2nd last concert before splitting up, and I heard that the recording of their last ever song, Blood Promise, couldn't be used. Also, that Gira went on stage naked. True/false?
@@theslydog59 Gira did go onstage naked! There are photos!
@TomorrowNeverKnows 1995 was The Gret Annihilator tour and I was at the LA2 gig for that. Not sure i it was the final gig of that tour. The 1997 Swans Are Dead tour LA2 gig was the final gig of that tour. I have the cd-r that Jarboe sent me of it.
@@theslydog59 Both true. But Gira only came out naked after the last track to wave goodbye.
@TomorrowNeverKnows I also got the cd-r. From Jarboe and 2 other 97 gigs free. No tours in 96 unfortunatly.
Makes me livid that this isn’t on Apple Music
It is now!
It's not "the" Swans. Just Swans.
Jarboe called them "the Swans" in an interview, so fuck you
@@JohnCane147 She said a lot of things but I go by the creator of the band who I've met twice and when I asked Gira he said it's only Swans. No need to swear at me. Stay safe.
@@marke9088 yeah I was joking don't worry. I kind of like how "The Swans" sounds tho lol
