What lovely memories of watching nearly all the movies you mentioned. I studied at the YWCA near Regal Cinema and went there quite often. They showed mostly English movies. Also went to Maratha Mandir, New Empire and Palace Cinemas too. Those were the days. I worked for a Distributor for the C.P. Berar Circuit for sometime and got free passes for many movies. Your videos are really excellent. Brings lots of memories of yesteryear but you also keep in touch with these times which will be memories for this generation. Thank you. Take care.🤗❤️🙏🏼
Wow, what anecdotes. I can relate to this. Thanks for sharing.
Jamie Alter Just for your interest Jamie. Being Anglo Indian a few friends and I worked as Stenographers those days for the Distribution companies. We released movies like Hariyali aur Rasta, Himalay Ki Godmein, Pechan, Ram Rajya a few of the titles. There was Rajshri Pictures, Pushpa Pictures, Keshari Films, Chitraprakash Films and Silverscreen Films etc. around those days. The bosses were mainly Gujarati. The salary I got would shock you but it must have been a lot in the days gone by. Thank you for letting me tell you my story. By the way most thought that your Dad was Anglo Indian. Not much was known about foreigners to the locals. Anglo Indians were as foreign as you could get. Take care. 🤗💕
@@karenbavington1870 Bombay Anglo Indians are there in print media also, i have seen. Those who don't know what is Anglo Indian, they would ignorantly call them "Goan Catholic".. You can not decide sometimes to laugh or cry on someone's ignorance. Much love from fellow Bombayite. Yes, i still prefer calling it Bombay.
Yash Shah Cool. I must say you know a lot. I never say much being an Anglo Indian. You never know what reaction you get. Some think really nice but some think useless and nothing to be proud of. My parents and I were born in India and did our bit in a very honest way. I am proud to be Anglo Indian and proud to be Indian. Thank you. Forgot to say Much Love to you too. I call it Bombay too. Have been living in Australia for a very long time but sure make it back to Bombay every chance I get. Take care 🙏🏼
@@karenbavington1870 I think some people are absolutely ignorant about their fellow Indian. And that can be the case with any country, i suppose. We should pardon them for their ignorance.
Common Indians! Jamie deserves millions of subscribers ! I am Not from India but , you guys should be proud of him !!
Saw Tom alter ji's interview on guftagoo on rajya Sabha tv,great man
Love the way you say Pitaji ❤ i loved him. Loved his urdu dialect...amazing
Mene apne father ke saath jo films dekhi hain unme se "Ajooba" "Chandni" and "Aashiqui" mujhe aaj bhi yaad hai. Kya zamana tha late 80's and 90's ka.

Your father was a great human being when I saw their interviews on RUclips than I came to how good and knowledgeable person he was. They looks very educative and intellectual when he talked about Hindi Cinema. His knowledge for hindi cinema is more than any actor of present time
There is something really special in this English looking Indian man.... Perfect way of story telling 👌👌👌👌👌

Ek Tom alter ji ka interview yaad aa gaya
Journalist:aap itni achi hindi kese bol lete hai
Tom alter: muh se 🤣😂😂
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh thug life
You and your father are always best about answering these type of questions
Nice clean family type entertainment... none of the garbage to increase ratings. Respect!
Thank you
Interesting fact - Jamie Paaji, at the age of 19, Tom Alter Saab used to work as a teacher at St. Thomas school & also worked as a Cricket coach in my hometown i.e Yamuna Nagar (Jagadhri), Haryana, where he actually started watching bollywood movies. In Yamuna Nagar, your father watched Rajesh Khanna's superhit movie 'Aradhana' that in fact inspired him to be an actor and work in bollywood movies and then he left for Pune and joined acting school to pursue his bollywood dream... Another interesting fact, I was also born in Dehardun (at Doon Hospital) 😂😂 Sat Shri Akaal Ji 🙏🙏🙏
Yes, I am aware of this. I have done a video on this too. Stay safe. Nice to hear from you.
Me also in your Neighborhood... Saharanpur..film 🎥 ARADHNA...I think Dimple cinema me dekhi thi.....but I personally meet Mr. Tom alter Sahab....in DELHI HAAT....he said ... Please Aap HINDI/ URDU...me BAAT kijiye.. ?.... Avalon resorts mussoorie I also met him.... somewhere 2007....even His cousin a instructor in mussoorie school.... visit my shop in Dubai/ global village India pavilion.....same year in October TOM Sahab expired...he visited my stall in Dubai on X.mas......
@@vaqarahmad7225 Ji Janaab, It used be only 2 Cinema halls, Dimple & Laxmi at that time and are still there. Though, Laxmi does not show any new movies now, but Dimple was demolished in 2006 & developed again from scratch and reopened in 2011, SRK's Ra-One being the first in the newly built Dimple and it earned a lot money for 5-6 yrs being the only multiplexer in the city. But then a new Uppal Mall was opened with a multiplexer in it, and entire footfall moved to that. Dimple is now gone again, sadly.
@@inderjeetsingh5554 well...what about MADHU.....cinema......once upon a time...there was.....?
Very nostalgic memories. I have also spent around 10 years in Bombay. It was the 80s era. We were also movie buffs. The cinema halls were a great attraction n we used to dress up well n go there all excited. I remember we used to see many movies at Gaity, Galaxy, Gemini in Bandra n also Bandra Talkies n New Talkies. Then Ambar, Oscar, Minor in Andheri. Wonder whether these halls are still there or not. A few years ago when I visited Mumbai New Talkies had been broken down n in its place a mall had come up.
What lovely memories , loved the way u described them. Waiting for the Massueri ke qisse.👍👍👍
You should focus as voice artist...your voice has really good command....
If you got any opportunity so you can do that as well.
Carry on....your RUclips channel...
Agree with you, just like his father Tom Alter.
Ya absolutely correct.......Jamie's voice has really good command....!
First movie I remember watching is Kasme Vaade in 1977 Maratha Mandir.....
Second movie I saw there was Ram Shyam re-run matinee....
Then a children's movie Robinson Crusoe 2₹ ticket from my school
Then Kranti and I can't even mention how many more yes Zanjeer in re-run
The last movie i watched there was Monsoon wedding. So many memories of Maratha Mandir ironically I never saw DDLJ at MM.
First movie I remember watching at Metro is Dostana Amitjis ...then Lawaris Amitjis...Aag aur Shola....Paap ki Duniya....
New Empire also on the fav halls....esp becos my late father used to say his first movie he watched was at New Empire....that was Raj Kapoor n nargis's Chori Chori in 1955 the ticket was priced 1.25₹
I also remember my first movie ,Mard starring Amitabh Bachchan, in Ritz Cinema - Shimla, then watching a movie first time, in colour in big screen , kept me mesmerised for few days.
God Bless Tom Alter Saab ...Great Son you are...Proud of you Jamie...You made me
Highly Nostalgic !! GK
The samosas at single screens were truly epic. They are still available, almost all of them afaik were made by Gurukripa at Sion. The famous A1 brand samosas. This pandemic has ruined all the simple pleasures of life.
Most of the Movies of that era in 90's...I have also seen these movies in Bombay Single Screen Theatres 😍
👍🏻 Your Pronounciation is also Good as like your Father👌
You are really a captivating storyteller !!! Have watched almost all your videos now including Fake in India channel. You are providing very clean, good family entertainment which has become a rarity these days. Keep it up. Wish you loads of Success !!!
Hello Jamie, you just remind me of 90's time when I used to go to theatre to watch hindi movies in Nepal cinemas. I was also of your age on those days. Beautiful those days
Jamie - Mr alter also played Musa in Parinda - That was also a memorable role
Yes, stay tuned for a video on this soon
80s me to filmo ke posters aur hoardings lagbhag har railway stations , bus stands aur lagbhag sabhi popular places me lagte the aur mai inhi posters ko hi dekh ker decide karta tha kaun si film dekhni hai kaun si nahi. ye yaaden bahut hi khas hai.
Bring back old memories. 😃😍🤗
Excellent video! Got to learn a lot about Mumbai!
Really Bro those days were golden days , those posters were really unique at that time i also spend my days watching that posters it was nice to see those posters that time will never come again , u made my memories fresh

In the UK watching movies is a very solitary experience. I was in Karachi once and went with my cousins to watch "Jeeva" - brilliant film- experience totally different. When the songs came on the volume of the speakers went up & the whole audience became animated. Great buzz.
You're a great story teller!
Thank you!

Thanks you revived my childhood memories and all the films you mentioned i watched
Ab zindagi ka woh daur hai Jamie bhai, jab 90's ki sunhari yaadon ko yaad karke khushi aur gham dono ka ehsaas karte hain, I'm 86 born and now I'm 34 and daily recall my awesome childhood of early 90's, aaj ka daur aisa hai jab kuch bhi achcha nhi raha.
Sir salute to you for your interesting story telling power , you just bind the viewer🙏🙏
Shukriya dost
Seriously enjoyed your video. Brought back memories of my visits to these very same cinema halls you have mentioned. Loved every moment of my time when I was in college and wandered around Bombay, sometimes alone just to watch a new release.
I must say!
Hi Jamie Sir,
Aapne toh nostalgic kar dia.
Main apna experience aapse share karta hu.
Main born and raised hu Nirmal area se jo Nalasopara West mein aata hai.
Main 1990 mein born hua.
Theater nazdeek koi nahi tha. Vasai area jo ghar se 10 KM ki doori par tha vaha KT Vision aur Parvati theater hua karte thay par mujhe mauka ekdum bachpan mei vaha jaaneka mila nahi.
Mere mom side family tab Santacruz mein thay so mujhe yaad hai specifically jab mai 5 years ka tha tab Trimurti and Akele hum Akele tum Gaiety Galaxy mein dekha tha.
Fir saal 2000 mein mujhe yaad hai ke Main, meri aunty aur sisters fir se Gaiety Galaxy gaye thay Stuart Little dekhne. Tab hum Mira rd se Bandra gye thay as Mom side family tab Mira rd shift ho gye thay. Stuart Little ka show tha 2 baje ka. Hum pohche 12 baje par show tha housefull. Ab kya kare? Aaye hai , kuch toh dekh le ...toh dekha ke Gemini mein Hera Pheri lagi hai. 3.30 show. Aur woh b fast filling. Humne aunty se kaha chalo yehi dekhte hai please. Woh alag baat hai ke Hera Pheri already humne 4-5 baar cable mei he dekh li thi lekin theater vaali mazaa he kuch aur thi.
Fir uske baad 2003 mein Mai meri family aur humaare neighbours Koi Mil Gaya dekhne gye thay Vasai ke KT Vision theater mei.
Fir 2005 mein Mira road mein Cinemax (jo tab Cine Prime tha) vaha Bunty aur Babli aur Randeep Hooda ki D movie dekhi thi.
Fir 2006 mei Nalasopara mein b theater open hua Fun Fiesta and uske baad toh cinema dekhte he gya.
Sach mein kaafi acche din thay...
What great memories growing up in the 90s
I remember samosa and cold drink in single screen cinema hall
Golden memories
Kudos to your memory power!!
I saw you and sis with your dad entering Metro in town for a movie, it as around 1996ish
I played Basketball with your father in YMCA club Bombay central underground court, your father was really Gem of a person
You are a true Indian, Sir. We want to see you in the movies just like your Dad, the legend Tom Alter.
What nostalgic memories
Very interesting sir. You Remind my days of 90's era...meri teenage wichhh, Jalandhar de ik very small village wichhh rehna...Apne ghar wich TV na hone karan, movies nu dekhne waste pind wichh kise doosre de ghar ja ke chori chori dekhna :)
Vadhiyan kisse dost
Jamie Alter ji bilkul.. jindgi da safar..
Very emotional , took me to my own childhood memories , same era, same movies , thanks Jamie bhai.
Great video. Thanks for the same. It is so nostalgic. I had also watched movies in the Gaity-Galaxy cinema (which was later named G7, as the complex has 7 theaters) in Bandra. I also remember watching 'Titanic' in Regal and 'Ghayal' in Maratha Mandir in the year 1998. Bombay/ Mumbai has many great cinema halls, even those of the multiplexes. Some can easily compete with the best of the world, including the US. Tell us more about your old days in Bombay and how the life was during those times.
In AUGUST....1990....I HAVE WATCHED THREE MOVIE 🎥 IN A ROW ....? ONE AFTER ANOTHER...GIETY , GALAXY....GEM.....(AASHIQUI, SHER DIL , & KAARNAMA..... it's strange & bizzare... Not for me...but my accompanied friend.....
