    Star Citizen, the best waiting and screenshot simulator ever?
    Star Citizen is a space game, I don't want everything happening in a second, some things should take time. This is fine.
    However, what Chris wants to make is not a fun game, he wants to make some kind of interactive movie, some kind of bad real life simulation.

    • @Danso_3000
      @Danso_3000 2 месяца назад +2

      I think it goes further than Chris wanting a realistic simulator. They want to sell cargo loading ships (Argo) & vehicles (like the Drake mule) to us. If auto-loading was going to be faster than doing it manually, everyone will just auto-load cargo and they wouldn't sell many of those vehicles... So rather than look at ways to make manually loading quick and enjoyable, they're instead opting to make auto-loading take insanely long. You can either sit and wait 2 hours for auto-loading to complete, or shell out for a cargo loader. This is what "balance" means to CIG.

    Those have to be pure placeholders, unless the person who put them in doesn't understand shipping and containerization at all. The whole point of a big container is that it costs about the same in time and money to load a big container as a small one. With a big container you only have to pay one employee for the minute or so it takes to move that container.
    A better starting point would be cost and time per container being the same, with maybe some different classes of containers (big ones cost a little bit more because they need to use more expensive equipment to move them). Loading time should be based on ship -- you wouldn't be loading one container at a time on larger ships -- every means of access would be used at once (especially on open ships like Hull series).
    The only thing that should scale linearly with amount of cargo is general import/export taxes (which would be the same whether you loaded manually or paid for longshoreman services), based on the value of the goods.

    Would be interesting to have different tiers of loading/unloading services. Higher cost=faster load, either due to more manpower or more sophisticated machinery used, for any given amount of cargo. Would also be interesting to have the ability to have jobs running in the background. Summon Hull C/D/E, purchase cargo, and get the loading started, but while that's happening, you can go do something else. Maybe have a few cargo jobs queued up.
    Here's one use case: You have a fleet of cargo ships that you keep in a rotation. Two at each spaceport plus the one you are currently in.
    Let's say you're pulling into a spaceport to make a delivery in ship 1 and you have ship 2 and ship 3 already at that spaceport. Ship 1 now needs to be unloaded, ship 2 needs to be loaded, ship 3 is loaded and ready to take off. So you start the timer on unloading and loading for ships 1& 2 and you fly 3 to the next place and do the same thing there.
    It would also be nice to have cargo already purchased at a spaceport and have the ability to have your ship loaded and unloaded at the same time.

  • @piedpiper1172

    It’s wild to think humanity reached 100 star systems but forgot about pallets and computer controlled cranes.
    If you live in a world with the SC tractor beams and their ability to utterly cancel inertia, you would see every cargo ship having almost exactly the same design, just at different sizes:
    It would have a large, utterly unobstructed rear, with as many rail-mounted tractor beam cranes as they can fit on the walls and ceiling. The rails would extend out of the ship when the cargo hatch is down, as cranes and similar often do on specialized cargo haulers today.
    A computer would control the motion, grabbing and stacking the standardized containers literally as fast as the rail system can handle the movement within the tolerances of the tractor beams.
    Every cargo deck would also be identical, designed to deliver containers to a standardized location relative to the ship as fast as possible (probably also using the tractor beams to hold them in line, magic space conveyer belt.)
    The only variations would be cargo bay size and internal vs external designs, with brand-themed decks for crew, engineering, and so on attached to the cargo bay such that they don’t conflict with the standardized cargo hub designs.
    We don’t hand load ships today. We have incredibly complex and sophisticated machinery and tools, and computer systems, that make the process as fast and automated as possible.
    If we are going to have space magic, that’s fine actually. But can we please pretend the people living in a universe with space magic have spent even a single second thinking about the space magic?

    Truth be told these time sinks could work. But, they would need gameplay around them. You could have a giant ship, that needs to get its cargo unloaded. Sure it will take you a day, or a couple hours. But then that would give you a reason to explore the station you are on or the planetary city/hub you are in. Looking at the hull C ships, it looks to me like the ship would come to a port and pay to have the four large racked sections taken off and away from your ship. Then the load would be broken down after that. Hull C’s racks and would be replaced and the ship would leave again. The hull C’s main detachable racks would be viewed as a style of pallet that holds all the boxes on the four sides of the hull C. Trackers wait for the truck or ship to be unloaded.
    A large ocean container ship, is never unloaded by its captain. Small trucks are unloaded by the driver. And semi trucks. It can go rather way but most the time corporation or company doesn’t want the truck driver using the stations lift or trust the truck driver to know how to use a forklift properly. Truck drivers are on no sleep. Some on a lot off coffee or Uppers. And the person can do a lot of damage if they’re not a good forklift driver. Even to the point where there’s licenses in states And it’s not legal for a semi truck driver to jump on a forklift and just start unloading his truck. Unless the driver has his own forklift and it’s been okayed by the warehouse.

    So let’s recap:
    Cargo amount: 2130 SCU
    Payout: 25,000 aUEC
    The times and prices for just moving the cargo into a ship:
    fastest loading times with 24 SCU and 32 SCU: 66.56 minutes.
    price for autoloading: 106,500 aUEC (same price for all SCU)
    If the prices for autoloading already include unloading, we would do the job of loading, unloading and spacetrucking for ¼ of the NPCs salary for just loading/unloading the ship.
    If the prices for autoloading do NOT include unloading we do the whole mission for 1/8 of the NPCs salary for loading and unloading.
    I am ok with NPC prices cutting into the profits, but this is beyond anything I ever expected. This has to change, because why should we be paid less than NPCs who only do part of the work?

    The hull c is not actually in this method as there is no hanger/elevator for the hull c area. So the estimated time is not accurate, currently. You can only auto load/unload with the hull c due to the process it uses (magic space cube). It'll still be roughly the same as it currently is.

    • @Camural
      @Camural  2 месяца назад

      @FoxVelox222 I gave rough estimations according to the current evocati PTU load times and assuming all ships have the auto load option. This means 144 minutes for a Hull C. Of course, this is CIG, so not all ships have an auto load option at the moment and of course those numbers are subject to change.

    I enjoyed space trucking, I do not like moving cargo.
    Moving your own cargo makes sense of you are being a space white van man in a small shop, but once you are at truck or godforbid container shop size loads, it should be automated and fairly fast, it takes no time at all for the industrial ballet dancers commonly known as forklift drivers to load up a truck and a cargo ship with over 10k 40ft containers takes a few days, no matter how you look at it, we are talking a few hundred containers at most, in the future.... It should not be taking hours to load up a large ship.
    Just how are they going to make hailing profitable when it will take hours to load it or pay a whole group to load and unload you, plus an escorts where, unlike reality, they don't have to be doing hard labour and could be off flying and fighting, which is what the pay will have to cover the cost of doing instead!
