Brings to fore the invaluable import of self-realization. From my vantage point, the realization of self, if apprehended as a prepotent state, actually absolves you of responsibility to enact willpower or other such perturbations. Because the realized self also self governs. As would be apparent, the prelude to all this is the process of actualizing self which simply is a container for all else. In other words, you will just know what is buoyantly important.

This is really great information! Thank you!
I would, however, recommend that someone work on the Closed Captioning for this video. Sometimes it is very accurate, but at other times it was completely off! I'm pretty sure Dr. McGonigal was not talking about Santa! I am not Deaf, but I work with Deaf people who would have a very hard time understanding this video with the current CC. Thank you!

This woman doesn't know what she is talking about, honestly she is talking crap. She doesn't know the first thing about willpower from a practical standpoint - I'm talking about the experience of having to struggle with willpower!
Yes, she is a great speaker and handsome looking - but that is part of what makes me doubt her credentials: As an academically successful woman who comes from a socially privileged background - what does she now about having to face issues that are possibly detrimental to willpower?
She is selling snake oil by giving us theoretical solutions for practical problems - something that doesn't compute well. I feel sorry for the poor and naive folks who expect answers for their problems from such a person.

This comment hits me home. But if you actually take a look at her other talks, everything she says or lectures are all tested and tried by laboratory experiments. Research studies where normal or average, struggling people are the sample. Its not like its a false paradigm

Ike Haze: No, this is putting a hater on check. I found Dr. McGonagal's lecture very efficient and relevant. You may call it "snake oil;" that's your prerogative. Again, if you have an alternative to Dr. McGonagal's theory, have at it. If not, take your negative rhetoric elsewhere.

In which way was it "efficient and relevant" to you? Care to elaborate?
