That hike! That breakfast! That beef noodle! Taiwan surpassed our expectations at every step. Thanks so much for watching, can’t wait for you all to see the next two episodes, and if you haven’t already, make sure to watch the first 🙌🏻
These two reminds me of my parents when I was really young. Wherever they go, they wouldn't mind taking me with them. Everything they did, they did it as a family 👍
First of all... Traveling with 2 kiddos can't be easy. Taiwan... Taipei is low key one of the best foodie destinations in all of Asia. Cheap, friendly, safe... y'all foodies better figure it out.
I was trippin. First I thought that was him then they shared some food and he spoke and then I wasn't sure. But I guess from what others are saying on your comments it is him. He gives so much better info than most of the YT channels like Vox.
Seriously, Iz's videos have such a personal feel to them. It's so engaging and I love the fact that she often includes her kids in her travels and you can tell how open about food they are. Every single travel destination she goes to I end up wanting to go.
Jiufen is famous bcoz japanese used to mine gold there. Aside from the old streets, there's also a gold museum, golden waterfall and double-colored sea (not sure about how it's translated into English). All of them are just nearby and worth visiting.
Such a good guide! Thanks, and congratulation Eater for hiring @Iz. Love her work style with good camera transitions, drone shots, music and graphics, all in one. Also a unique way of telling great histories in such a visual and original way.
Beef noodle history lesson! Prior to the 1949 retreat of the Nationalist Party (Kuomintang/KMT) from the mainland to Taiwan following the Chinese Civil War, Taiwan was largely a rice and pork based cuisine. Rice was the regional staple crop of the Southern Chinese sphere of Southern Fujian, where the majority of pre-1949 Hokkien and Hakka migrants came from; and pork because of a tendency to avoid eating cows since they were valued as beasts of burden for farming. 1949 brought over an influx of Chinese from all over mainland China to Taiwan. Beef noodle in particular came from the confluence of a couple cuisines. Beef consumption came from the Hui people (Chinese Muslims) of central China along the Silk Road due to their prohibition on pork consumption. The spicy bean paste known as doubanjiang comes from Sichuan in the southwest. Knife cut noodles that you find in certain varieties of the dish came from Shaanxi. The technique of red-braising meat (hong shao rou) is commonly associated with coastal China, particularly the lower Yangtze around Shanghai. The dish morphed into countless varieties during its stay in Taiwan as people experimented with now popular additions like tomato broth, Chinese herbs, and pickled cabbage (suan cai), and as such has really become its own thing.
Iz Harris you were Moming hard!!! At the pinnacle of your eating journey you ate an entire noodle/soup meal with a sleeping child in your lap. Not easy!! Well done and great video. Inspiring and fun to see. Great descriptors of the food.
Love how you took your family and had them try everything you tried. Great learning experience for them. Also the way you talked about the food and experiences holding your kids I loved it. So personable and relatable as a Mom. Kudos to your family and great travel experience!
I’ve been waiting for this video all week! ALL. DAMN. WEEK. Y’all were such troopers dealing with the rain and jet lagged children. Props!! I hope you were able to chill and soak in the culture without having to exhaust yourselves!
Being Taiwanese American, this (Series) is probably the best edited show on Taiwan I have seen. It just looks so pretty from every second. Thank you for promoting Taiwan in a totally dignified way :)
travelling with 2 kids(we do) is a challenge difficulty. Travelling and creating vlog with two kids is legendary difficulty. Me and my wife salute you guys for your success.
Did you try 大腸包小腸? It's like a hot dog but instead of a bread bun, it's a sticky rice sausage wrapped around the Taiwanese sausage and then complemented with different picked veggies. The rice and veggies help to balance out the saltiness and fat of the sausage and it's one of my favourite night market foods.
A round of big applause to who ever edited this video and filmed it every little details was on point and the background music 2 btw those 2 kids fill up just right in rhe video u are showing that family can travel without any problems 👌💯
Outstanding editing and most adorable family !! I love watching all of your travel series, Izzy ( especially your Portugal travel series ) I probably consumed three dozens of egg tarts myself last week when I was vacationing there. So glad you enjoyed your visit in my home country, Taiwan. Thank you for capturing the authenticity beauty of this special place has to offer..food and more 🤩 can’t wait to visit TW this Dec ! Best wishes to your beautiful family !
Great hosting, shooting and editing. This (and the Taiwanese night market video) are my first Eater RUclips vids and am hooked! Well done iz and team. Love from ireland xx
Very glad the food pleased you and your family. Thank you for all the compliments when introducing Taiwanese food. Wish Taiwan could bring you more experiences and joys, we are welcome everyone come to Taiwan to have a great time!
There're many iconic dishes, and beef noodle is only one of them. One reason for making it iconic is because it was invented by Chinese immigrants who came to Taiwan in the 40s and 50s as war refugees, and the taste is a combination of Mainland Chinese style (said to be Sichuan style) and local Taiwanese style. Therefore it represents the unique history of this country. As for other classics, I would definitely recommend braised pork rice (lu rou fan), scallion pancake, and oyster vermicelli. As for sweets, Aiyu jelly in lemonade is a must try. You can't really find it anywhere else in the world.
Another excellent video for the Harris family and their travels. (yes the kids gave out towards the end but, way to hang in there for the whole of the shoot! ) Can't wait to see what's next! (yes hot pot... I know Iz said it but, it's the journey to the hot pot that counts)
Personally I don't think there is such a thing as a "signature dish" in Taiwan... because there are simply too many classics! But Beef noodle soup is definitely one of the classics👌
Nice that you know the Taiwanese language! I do enjoy the foods you mentioned, but I have to say, Taiwanese food is a combination of a variety of cultures, that's why it's hard to pinpoint just a few items👍👍I actually like 鹹酥雞&香雞排 the best. (P.S. it's Johanson, not Johnson)
Proud to see another showcase of Taiwanese food! A great and underrated place for food is Kaohsiung! If anyone is looking for a good meal or even just a snack come to Kaohsiung it is unforgettable!
Yongkang Beef Noodles has been around since my father was a child. We used to come here every sunday after church when I was a kid. They started as a street vender next to this restaurant and ended up buying the entire building. My only beef with this place is too many international travellers know about it now and my childhood memory is becoming a nightmare of long line ups any time of the day! They are also famous for their appetizers ranging from tofu noodles to egg plants, their staple rice coated steamed ribs or intestines are also highly recommended.
I lived in Taiwan for more than 20 years...The Beef Noodle soup was the best I ever had...ANYWHERE.. Absolutely delicious.. In fact, Taiwan long held the reputation of making the very best Chinese food...in the world. I have no reason to doubt that THAT reputation continues to this day !!
We just got home from taiwan. The beef noodle soup from Jiufen Old st was the best beef noodle soup i’ve ever tasted. The flavor and meat is outstanding. Can anyone give me the recipe? Thanks!
Oh gosh THANKS IZ I've been missing Taiwan for so long. I'm heading back to my hometown come December and I can't wait to get back to all the yummy foods :3 imo the beef tendon is my favorite and the spicy broth is BOMB (we love adding tomatoes in too for some juicy acidity). Also I'm glad you've liked the food so far!
As a Taiwanese, I truly appreciate the video introducing Taiwan food, but I must also tell you that there are still too many to explore if you want to know every "face" of Taiwan beef noodle haha. Every Taiwanese got their best beef noodle restaurant in mind!!!
my favorite place to go whenever im in taiwan is Halal Chinese Beef Noodle Restaurant located at No. 1號, Alley 7, Lane 137, Yanji Street, Da’an District, Taipei City, Taiwan 106. michelin recommended and super cheap
Thank you for sharing your experience and my loved country with such a well editted film. I also love your narration and the way you described your feeling. Please come back again. There are tons of other things this small island is willing to share with you.
I see you guys went to my fave Yong Kang Jie beef noodle towards the end. That is Szechuan style broth but not all 紅燒 are Szechuan style. Some are simply with soy sauce and other spices. And then there’s also the clear broth and tomato broth. Enjoy.
The funny thing is that Taiwanese people did not like to eat beef before. However, United States foreign aid after WW2 provide lots of beef to Taiwan and create the beef noodle culture in Taiwan today.
Love your channel. I ate at this beef noodle place since I was a kid. Back in the day there are no tourists. Now every time I go back there’s always tourists.
I don't know how I found this channel. Your video is awesome, the beef noodles look so tasty, and your boys are really cute. I especially admire your skill of eating while holding your not-so-small-anymore sleeping kid 😂😂
that taiwanese sausage is more like กุนเชียง in thailand. we usually slice it 0.5-1cm thick and fry them on pan with low heat just to make the fat on skin little bit cooked. we eat them with boiled rice. with salty egg, sour vegetable . fresh cooked veggie, fried dry fish. i think that sausage is a common food for whole asian. might include those upper and far west of china too where preserved food is very common for cold weather
This is so close to my house... I can't believe that a day a few months ago, you guys were walking on the streets that I walk on every single day. And eating Yongkang beef noodle soup!
I love seeing the kids eating all the different foods. Fantastic. Ethnic restaurants need to be more family friendly in my opinion. That's how you develop lifelong eaters. Love it.. loved Portagual too.. made me book a trip there. Could you please include prices.
That hike! That breakfast! That beef noodle! Taiwan surpassed our expectations at every step. Thanks so much for watching, can’t wait for you all to see the next two episodes, and if you haven’t already, make sure to watch the first 🙌🏻
Asia is amazing!
Taiwan belongs to china
I'm impressed with how you managed to eat a bowl of noodles while holding a sleeping child
You did an amazing job on the production.
@@changbooger Can you stop making comments regarding Taiwan belongs to China or not? It is a travel and food video, thank you
Iz, casually hosting and eating noodles over the limp body of her sleeping child, is iconic. What a mom!
Daria Witte so awesome!!
Moms are incredible!
We love a strong working mom
was coming here to say the same thing down to the word choice- iconic indeed!!
I was about to make the same comment! 😂
The fact that you're holding your kid while eating and talking makes this feel like a personal conversation. Thanks
I’m crying watching you guys enjoy my hometown cuisine 😭😭😭 thanks for making this great content Iz!!!
That first sip of beef noodle soup you get especially after you just came from the cold wet weather is just heavenly.
Love your series, Izzy!! Best part is that you did it with your family. Cheers!

Big props to Iz for being a fabulous host and a super mom at the same time! Love it when we get to see your kids in your videos!

You forgot to mention the original beef came from US canned beef stew as part of support from US government.
