Be water my fired, its the softest yet the water can break hard rocks into 2, be water my friend . :) Flow like Water, soft in the mind yet hit like a rock. :) also bruce lee did study various psychological and various palosyphys as well, which is why he looked at every basic move and then added the art of balance with in yourself, but if required be masterfull of fighting without force, always avoiding force as the first move, but always at the ready with his eyes and mind to attack and defend oneself from almost anything, including knives swords and even a pistol, he truly was one of a kind human and i believe if all the grandmasters were just like william chung then this world would be a better place to life?

Heroes always have feet of clay and only children make heroes out of other people! Mr Lee was a good Martial artist and a good actor who gave Chinese kids something to aim for. There were many Wing Chun practitioners better than him, he was just better at self-promotion and nowadays his name is still being used by people like Mr Cheung to claim bragging rights! Don't misunderstand me, Mr Lee was a competent martial artist, but he was a much better actor who knew how to influence so-called celebrities in order to make lots of money! Have you ever seen the video of Bruce training with James Coburn, he was useless and if Mr Coburn is the standard of his students then he was a shit teacher as well!

Bruce Lee was a child actor in movies in Hong Kong. Bruce's father was a theatre and film actor and Bruce was in a number of films when he was a young boy. Often fighting bullies. You can see clips of Bruce's childhood rolls in the Legend documentary. Or just search for them on RUclips. William met Bruce at Bruce's 9th Birthday party. Later when Bruce told William he wanted to train in Wing Chun, William told him he needs to look after his face for his acting. Bruce really wanted to train so William introduced him to Yip Man. Well sir, no disrespect but your numbers are incorrect. I mean the dates.
With all respect to Sifu William Cheung, but the author of the book "Bruce Lee - A Life", Matthew Polly, pointed out with very good arguments and documents that Sifu Cheung was a little bit wrong with the dates.
He met Lee for the first time in September 1956, when Lee was 15 years old, and Mr. Lee invited him to his 16th birthday party on November 27th that year.
Shortly after Cheung introduced Lee to Yip Man and Wing Chun. Lee did not study Wing Chun before he was 16, only some fundamentals of Tai Chi, Hung Gar and Choy Li Fut before (between 7 and 16).
So he did not met grandmaster Yip already in late 1953, more in late 1956.
Sifu Cheung also stated he prepared Lee for the school boxing tournament on March 29, 1958, and that Lee won the fight vs the briton Gary Elms via knockout.
Text documents and witnesses like Rolf Clausnitzer, a schoolmate of Elms, stated this is not true at all.
Lee knocked Elms down several times, but Lee won by decision, not KO.
So it seems Sifu Cheung - as great man and martial artist he certainly is - did some mistakes when he talked about Lee.
But thx very much for this great upload!

The Long bio states - 'Bruce's most prominent memory was the occupation of Hong Kong by the Japanese during World War 2 (1941 - 1945) At the age of 13, Bruce was introduced to Master Yip Man, a teacher of the Wing Chun style of Gung Fu. For five years Bruce studied diligently and became very proficient. He greatly revered Yip Man as a master teacher and wise man and frequently visited with him in later years'. -
Bruce was born in 1940 and was 13 years old in 1953.
Grandmaster Cheung actually met Bruce Lee on Bruce's 9th Birthday (10th in Chinese as you are already considered one year old before birth). GM Cheung's uncle took him to the birthday party of the child movie star, but William and Bruce didn't speak at that time. It was later on when they were 13 years old and GM Cheung had already started Wing Chun that Bruce asked him about Wing Chun and convinced William to introduce him to Sifu Yip Man. William was hesitant at first, Bruce being a child actor William thought Bruce should look after his face, so initially he didn't take Bruce seriously until Bruce finally convinced him.

@@traditionalwingchunkungfu6098 With all respect, but ive been a Lee fan since 1990 and know how "acurate" his estate is. They are not really a credible source for truthfull informantions about him. Just read the section you told me about, they skipped completely he died in the appartment of an other woman, and they act like his widow was the only woman in his life between 1963 and 1973, which is obvously not true.
Just watch "Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story", this movie was based on the book from his widow, its a fairy tale, not a real historical biopic. Same with "The Legend of Bruce Lee".
His estate is simply no credible source about him. So this link wont help me very much.
I do respect Grandmaster Cheung very much and i believe his words when he said he met Lee on one of Lee´s birthday parties, but Mr. Polly showed a document that Lee came to the school he met Grandmaster Cheung on September 10., 1956 whe he (Lee) was 15.
So it is very possible Grandmaster Cheung introduced Lee after Lee´s 16th birthday (November 1956) to Grandmaster Yip/Ip.
Take a look at the beginning of the clip with Grandmaster Cheung and Lee. I know definately Lee was more like 15/16 on this foto, not 13.
But on the other side i have to admit it looks like this:
Who said he began Wing Chun at the age of 13:
      - Grandmaster Cheung
      - his sister Phoebe
      - his brother Robert
      - his mother Grace
      - his estate (widow* etc)
      - almost all of his students
      * again here you have to be sceptical. She also stated the fight between Lee and Wong Jack-man was because the chinese community didnt like Lee was teaching Kung Fu to non chinese, and if Wong wins he has to close his school.
The widow stated this over and over again, and Polly found out it was not true. In reality Lee told the old masters they were Tigers without teet, basically what they were doing is BS and doesnt work.
So they got mad at him. It had nothing to do with them being racistic.
But Lee lied to his widow and stated it was about racism, simply because he didnt want to tell her it was his own fault for insulting the old chinese masters in Chinatown.
And so his widow took it for a fact. And i am sure he also told her he began WC at the age of 13, same he told Hollywood reporter Alex Ben Block in the early 70s.
Who said he began Wing Chun at the age of 16:
      - Matthew Polly
      - Grandmaster Wong Shun-leung
      - Duncan Leung
So you can make a case for 13.
A question about your post: You wrote in China a baby is already 1 year old before its born. I know in Japan its the same.
But when you and Grandmaster Cheung say 13, do you mean 13 in China or 13 in the west?
Because 13 in the west would mean 14 in China, and 13 in China would mean 12 in the west.
Thanks, and thx very much for your reply!

Bruce left Hong Kong for the US in April of 1959. He had 5 years Wing Chun under his belt. November of 1956 doesn’t allow for 5yrs Wing Chun. Only Two and 5 months. Bruce told his students he started Wing Chun at 13.
GM Cheung’s Account of meeting Bruce for the first time reproduced from My Life with Wing Chun by William Cheung:
      - ‘Early one evening, on November 27, 1949, I had just finished my school homework, when my uncle turned up unexpectedly and took me to a party. Not until we got to 218 Nathan Road, Tsim Sha Tsui in Kowloon, did I realise we were going to the child star Lee Shiu-loong’s Birthday Party. I was very excited about having the honour of meeting a child star in person. This was really something special. I had seen two of his movies so far. One was called ‘The Beginning of Man’ the other I cannot recall now.
There were lots of kids at the party, including Bruce’s five cousins, two elder sisters, his elder brother and two of Bruce’s best childhood friends - Raymond Cheung, son of a very famous film star and Unicorn, also a child film star. My uncle introduced me to the hosts. Mr Hoi Chuen and Mrs Grace Lee and Bruce. Mrs Lee asked Bruce to show me around. I followed Bruce to another room where all the kids were playing.
The food was Chinese but served in buffet style. Everyone helped himself to a plate. But not many of us kids were interested. We stayed in the other rooms and played games. After the food, the lights were turned off. His mother brought out a birthday cake with nine candles. We sang a birthday song. Then Bruce blew out the candles after he made a wish.

    • @FoieGras
      @FoieGras 6 лет назад +1

Yeah, but Tommy doesn't get NEARLY the pop that Bruce does. EVERYBODY's heard of Bruce. It's not so much people being racist as it is people wanted to defame an icon, especially one as prominent as Bruce.

According to Bruce's first and best student, Jessie Glover, Tommy is THE only guy he ever came across, in a lifetime of travelling the world and mixing with the best martial artists around, who had the same explosive speed and power as Bruce. Tommy is used by Bruce's wife, Linda, to do demonstrations, when celebrating certain things about Bruce's life...this is high praise indeed and says much for Tommy's hard-earned abilities. Tommy is a self-confessed massive fan of Bruce and does everything he can to keep JKD the way Bruce was developing it...

      @@cooloutac
I'm not saying that there is no racism, but I believe that you are confusing it with simple biases that may or may not have anything to do with race. Racism certainly exists, but it is far overused to socially attack other people most often for mere disagreements that aren't even tied to race. It is just a lazy way to discredit other people. Very much like this current fad of calling people Nazis, including actual Jews (Dennis Prager, Ben Shapiro) simply for political disagreements. Not unlike Candice Owens (a young black woman) being accused of white supremacy. Completely ludicrous, and incredibly lazy. Instead of attacking the debate position, some people would rather discredit the person so they don't have to defend their own positions at all. So-n-so is evil, debate over.
By the way, I think Bruce Lee was an amazing person who deserves his reputation of strength and skill. His death was a loss for the world. I'm a fairly conservative white (mostly) American. I also think that he could take Chuck Norris with both in their primes. Anywho...

Can anyone give any more insight on how Wing Chun is passed on? It’s interesting William mentioned only one student can be taught? I’m curious if there is much difference between the modified version he mentioned.

The modified lineages of Wing Chun are vastly different in so many aspect. Just some of the difference include shift thier feet vs picking them up and move around your opponent. Moving to the blindside vs fight straightforward etc...

I sense more fall out from Matthew Polly's book. I know Grandmaster Cheung personally and have met Dan Inosanto on a couple of occasions. I can assure you the people who knew Bruce personally will tell you that he had four and a half years training in Wing Chun and started in 1953 when he was 13 years old. Its either poor reporting or an attempt to offer something new to fans. Either way it is a poor way to treat the subject as its miss reporting an already established historical fact.

VERY rare footage. WC admits Bruce was approached by Triads even as a kid. If that was so I'm sure he was "approached" more so when he became somewhat known in the late 60's-early 70's. Bound to happen. Wanting a piece of him. Just like I'm sure the mob approached Brandon. And because Bruce had a very cocky personality I'm sure he didn't play ball so the Triads did what they did. And later to Brandon. :P No accidents in both cases.
I wonder if the Triads asked Sifu William Cheung to do "favours" for them because of his skills. I say this because I knew of a Tai Chi master from the Wu style who was asked. :P And since he had two boys and a wife...i'll bet he complied a few times.

To much religion in your thinking. Actually Bruce was referred as little dragon, that’s why his films have dragon in the title. Enter Bruce lee = enter the dragon. In China the dragon is a symbol of power and strength and is revered. You seem misinformed. Fighting is part of all cultures and the animal world. It is necessary for self preservation and the protection of others. There is nothing “evil” about it. You sound like an idiot.
