I get the kissing hate. The Doctor is a 1000+ year old being who has experienced near everything. Why would they have any romantic interest in people especially humans.
It still confuses me a little bit that at a time where a former Doctor Who star was accused of inappropriately getting his dick out on set and a former Doctor Who star was accused of actually sexual assaulting women, the one everyone chose to get loudly outraged about was the former.
With Noel Clarke it is still officially just allegations and most of the charges- rightly or wrongly- have been dropped due to lack of evidence, and Clarke is suing news outlets for defamation with a judge agreeing his case was valid and could proceed to court. With Barrowman, it isn't allegations- it is widely known and he wasn't hiding it, in fact he was openly flaunting it and it wasn't a secret, so unlike Clarke there is no ambiguity and the controversy is partly over how much his behaviour was tolerated. With Clarke, most of what he allegedly did happened behind closed doors rather than on-set. The difference is that one set of accusations are actually accusations that have been denied, whereas the others are unquestionably matters of fact and have actually been admitted to.

If I was working with someone, and they exposed themselves - I'd be angry, frustrated, confused, unsure how to respond, especially when I was younger. I can sit here and say that what John did was "lesser" than Noel, and by all accounts Noel is much the type of person the Me2 movement is all about... But John's actions can't be dismissed as "just a bit of fun", either. Especially when he was the lead of Torchwood, he should have been stepping up, and I don't know how you could see exposing yourself as being great leadership material.
I believe someone reported that Barrowman still kept his "jokes" when filming Arrowverse shows (where, coincidentally, he had several "deaths" and kept coming back, even between shows), meaning that the only lesson he learned was that he should stop doing that once someone complains, but if noone does... well. That said, he was promptly removed from some live experience show he recorded lines for, as well as his final (for now anyway) Big Finish Torchwood appearance, alongside David Tennant's Doctor, was swept under the rug just days until planned releae and is still unreleased as of now...
I really hope that audio drama gets released. I get why they cancelled it, but it's a shame for everyone else who worked on the audio. And obviously for the fans who are missing out on another torchwood story.
The one thing I'll say in Barrowman's defence is that there were people on the show who had just as much clout as he had or even more...and yet, his behaviour was not only tolerated, it seemed like it was condoned and maybe even encouraged a bit, if jokes are being made about it in songs and nobody is seriously reprimanding him letting alone threatening to have him fired. He clearly wasn't the only person who thought his antics were somehow okay, and he should have been disciplined or let go decades earlier but if anything was rewarded for all his crap. RTD, David Tennant and others have almost as much to answer for as he does.

I think the thing about Jack/John for me is it’s a massive shame that the lead character of one of the show’s spin offs and one of the most popular characters of the show will now be ignored forever, and by extension anything that has him in it will be as much as they can too, especially for content they make for RUclips and social media. Literally all John had to do was admit what he did was wrong and give sincere apology to all he did it to and in front of, instead he just called it “tomfoolery” and tried to deflect, making it something it wasn’t. Like in one of his interviews he tried to say it slipped out during the shooting of scenes he was naked for, for doctor who or Torchwood, even though we know it wasn’t those occasions, like with Annette being a witness to his flashing when she wasn’t in bad Wolf.
If you want a "silly" controversy, try ANY time a Doctor Who actor strips off for another role - Jodie Whittaker's probably the most famous example after the way the press tried to basically "slutshame" her for some of her previous roles when she got cast as the 13th Doctor, but it's been done to others as well (Billie Piper, Jenna Coleman, Matt Smith in The Crown I think I heard? I definitely remember them talking about him showing his willy in a previous role when he got cast as the 11th Doctor; pretty sure he got asked about it on Top Gear or something?) I've seen it done to non-Who actors as well. Basically any time an actor from a more "wholesome"-regarded show does something a bit more raunchy (Downton Abbey actors seem to be a common target for this as well?) Like the press has never seen this kind of thing before 🙄

I'm still angry over the Graham Norton promo. This in-show promotion had happened on channels like Dave, but on a show like QI, it's easy to ignore it. It's annoying, but not too distracting. I, however, was fully invested in what I still regard as one of the great moments of NuWho. It was the first showing, and the writers, producers and cast had built up this terrific climax, and cliff hanger, only to have it ruined by a dancing cartoon Norton. I wonder how Matt Smith and the crew reacted? Not best pleased, I imagine. Would the BBC have done this to Line of Duty? It was clumsy, ill thought out and inconsiderate. I bet Strictly never had this happen! Kudos to Norton for tackling the complaints in such a unique way, though

there are genuinely terrible people out there causing actual harm and people are whining that John Borrowman liked to flash people. Not a single person told him to knock it off and they even played it up, so why would he stop. one of the stupidest reasons to cancel someone.
idk I think the idea that ppl didn't like the 15 and rogue kiss because it was gay is incredibly reductive. some of us are just sick of the romantic interests, it makes what happened with rose and river feel less significant. if he did the gay love interest first I wouldn't have an issue with it. im just sick of the doctor having the horn for everyone
That’s fair but there were certainly people being very loud about the fact their specific complaint was the same sex aspect of the relationship. I also don’t think all relationships are the same. As in it’s significant to see same-sex relationships given space in mainstream media as they’ve been ignored for so long which kind of over rode my annoyance at all the snogging.
Ever since he started having romantic relations, he’s been making flippant references constantly about having all sorts of romantic relations with all sorts of people(usually historical figures.) I’m not overly keen on all that sort of thing myself but I think you shouldn’t be acting as if the dr falling in love is some rare thing that only has happened once or twice in his life. Rose and river song are important because they’re important to the dr (and are made important to the audience) not because he so rarely falls in love. Half of river songs whole modus operandai is having a million lovers. Does that make it less important? No, because that isn’t how people work. The value of love is determined by how much it means to the people doing and receiving the loving, it’s not supply and demand. Likewise if rose and river song were actually important to you outside of it being a one-off gimmick you wouldn’t care if the dr had a shag every week.
If the cast and crew were so offended by John Barrowman’s behaviour on set why did it take them 10 years after the events for them to come forward to complain. Also Eve Myles threw him under the bus 😳
WILL people please stop making John Barrowman out to be the villian. He was a 'fabulous' stage actor with some child friendly television work in the past. He was well known for his antics to those in showbiz and stage, in fact it is very likely he was given the role of captain Jack as he was so open to flirting udity\gayness they wanted him to do a nude scene within his first season (days into filming) so to them turn round without asking him to behave different, complain that hey he doesn't mind getting it out for a laugh to relieve stress and tension is a bad thing. Well to me that stinks of two faced behavior. He is never stated as trying to bring it into sexual use, he just thought of it like any nudest a part of his body. He never forced any kisses, it was all off the public view and if any complaints had been made I feel he would of stopped sooner, as proved when someone actually asked he did stop and has apologised since never saying on that's old news. Also why the h@@# he keeps fans hopes up when it's a known fact he will never again be allowed to wear the coat gets me, instead he should tell any fans that ask no I have been banned for doing what they let me do.
Classic Who was best because the Doctor was the alien outsider. He didn’t act completely human and as a child that was the thing I loved about him. Eccentric, stoic and resilient, rebellious and charming. Modern Who isn’t done right. RTD has sex on the brain and doesn’t care if he’s spoiled the Doctors character. This just drags the show down to the level of a soap opera. You do know the Doctor getting off with a human is really dodgy. Beastaility. I hate the sexual stuff in new Who. Whether it be with women or men. Proper Doctor Who died in 1989. This version is badly written fan fiction.
Well in America, New Who is available on HBO Max and Fear Her has always been available probably because me and other Americans never knew that the announcer was anything more than a small time actor with a small role.
I think reducing the backlash toward Rogue as just “people being mad cause it’s gay” is dumb. If rogue was a woman it wouldn’t change the fact their relationship had no build up and very little chemistry. I don’t like giving the Doctor romantic interests, River was the only one done half-way well in my opinion
People thinking something isn’t very well written isn’t “controversy.” People saying it was “obscene” or that such a thing shouldn’t be in a children's show - which is clearly only being said because it’s a homosexual act - is a controversy. The difference is one complaint is on moral grounds and one is not.

Chris left the show after one season because he didn't like "some things" that were happening on set that RTD refused to address. He has never said what those things were but are we going to be surprised if "Barrowman's little friend" was one of them?
Rogue aired in 2024, the same sex kiss wasnt the problem, it was every mistake RTD made since 2022
i'm in the josie years so just finished the creepy spider one and saw rosa so on the weird one after that and i see now why people go ok hit and miss with her years so meet i feel peter david are so far my favorite modern doctors. and i would of yes added a weeping angel in the background however THIS AS FAR AS I KNOW never happened to the red dwarf gang :)
I've just checked my Amazon Prime PURCHASE of Doctor Who season 2, and the pedophile's voice is still there, and so is the episode.
I’m sorry but when was the time you could get your willy out at work and wave it about? I think you have to go back further than 2005. Maybe about 2000 years further back. I guess it’s hard for an immortal guy like Captain Jack to move with the times…
there are genuinely terrible people out there causing actual harm and people are whining that John Borrowman liked to flash people. Not a single person told him to knock it off and they even played it up, so why would he stop.
one of the stupidest reasons to cancel someone.
Oh and there certainly have been some accusations of horrible behaviour by JNT back in the day.
Fear Her is such a bad episode, would it really matter if it stayed gone?
+++
I think a lot of people had the impression after Rogue that he was introduced to be a replacement Jack.
"fear her" is also on Max.
The way u pronounce controversy drives me crazy
7:08 that sounds bad out of context
Dear John, you sing ,you dance, you act, you get praised and paid. How much attention do you need?
idk I think the idea that ppl didn't like the 15 and rogue kiss because it was gay is incredibly reductive. some of us are just sick of the romantic interests, it makes what happened with rose and river feel less significant. if he did the gay love interest first I wouldn't have an issue with it. im just sick of the doctor having the horn for everyone
For me, I think it just needs more than one episode set up. Apparently, the Target novelization does a better job pacing wise.
He was well known for his antics to those in showbiz and stage, in fact it is very likely he was given the role of captain Jack as he was so open to flirting
udity\gayness they wanted him to do a nude scene within his first season (days into filming) so to them turn round without asking him to behave different, complain that hey he doesn't mind getting it out for a laugh to relieve stress and tension is a bad thing.
Fear Her was an atrocius episode

Ok but David Tennants most recent incarnation is attracted to men, as is Ncuti Gatwas not only gay, but stereotypically gay
