I use a 12 power adapter and a cigarette lighter USB charger circuit to feed 12V and 5V to the Molex connector pins to power it.

This doesn't work on a Seagate hard drive, I've already tried it but it needed the arm to work continuously. Yes I've soldered pin 2 and 6 together still doesn't work. I just need to find a WD hard drive lol.
For the arm, you only need the socket... check on its base, where one of the screws goes, it has contacts that fee to one of the pins. But anyway, it still powers down after 10-20 seconds, anyway. This method is not good for every HDD, especially not for the new ones.

Yes you can use. But mostly external hard drive input only 12 volt. 1st chek volt of your external drive.

It worked for 10 seconds and stopped, I turned off the switch and turned it on, again the same thing. Where is the problem?
1st of all chek output volt 12 volt and 5 volt . If output is okey . Then try other brand of hard drive. Some brand not supported for direct run for sander. Thank you for your feed back..

It may be that the particular control circuit needs a keep alive signal (from the computer) or a particular pin in the data connection to be 'logic high'. I too have the same problem but have no solution other than switching off and on. If anyone has a fix pls. let us know. Tks ! Running with AC or a speed controller is not an option I want to use.

Okey.. maybe your hdd circuit is faulty .. remove circuit and wash with mbc specially back side. And dry.. then try again.. i hope all fine..
