The backwards blade is the best way to clear snow before you get a good frozen base. Getting these ups and downs in temperature makes it challenging for different snow removal equipment.
I have a lot of decisions to make buying my first tractor. If you have input on the L4802 compared to the other tractors I would be interested in hearing it. Slightly smaller tractors are NOT that much less expensive and some cost even more for less tractor!@@EverythingElliott
Backing with the blade in the normal forward direction is how i do it. I usually try to pack in some tracks first and let them freeze. That way they act as slides to keep the blade from pushing too much gravel. Weather usually doesn't cooperate to accomplish that but ideally that seems to work the best.
@EverythingElliott I'm in NE Ohio. We got some good snow but they are calling for warm temps and rain next week. Yep the inconsistent weather stinks for us gravel drive owners.
I made 2 holes on each skid for the snow pusher and used carriage bolts to attach 2x4 on the snow pusher worked well, however will leave 1.5" of snow. I have since removed based on frozen ground.
The last method pushing backwards with the blade in normal position or slanted is what I used on my pea gravel drive. It can be a little hard on the neck, but works the best when my driveway is not frozen. I also have a snow pusher up front for when it is. You can also adjust your toplink for best results.
When I grew up on the farm we had a heavy duty articulating Eversman blade. I had to repair a 3" round shaft that broke in half on several occasions. The only time it broke is when someone was pushing backwards usually dirt. Going forward the blade floats. Going backwards the blade can hit a hard spot and snap that big shaft. Just a heads up on a potential problem.
10 months late but have you tried putting a pipe with a split length wise over the cutting edge? Worked for me when I was using a home made snow blade and pushing banks back over my very unfrozen yard. I'm also in a lake effect area 20 minutes North of Syracuse.
I wonder if that was me? I've mentioned that to a few people using the bakblade backwards.. and what I meant use the back of the blade so it won't carve into the gravel.. don't know if turning it around and going forward would work well but I meant back up
Knew I would regret it but I bought a 25 HP just to stay away from the Regen. When I was still working I saw 2 very expensive trucks and one dozer destroyed while regening.
I don’t like windrows on the edge of my driveway, so I try to pull it to one location and make piles instead piled along the entire side of the driveway.
The best method I found is to get a good hard pack on your gravel driveway first to let the blade slide easier. Skid shoes on the blade is much better just a blade. I actually have a rubber blade on my truck plow with skids shoes so I never dig up any rocks or grass.
Mother Nature decided to drop some heat on us up here. This winter has been crazy with the snow then melt then snow. We haven’t even gotten a solid base yet!
Happy Sunday here in Indiana 45 degrees. Okay off subject Fog lights F150 / 250, Do you know? or tested, ? or did a video on LED AMBER / YELLOW Fog lights? Currently using 5000k 9005 LED bulb in my fog lights. Like the pure white of 5K LED. Coworker just put in amber / yellow LED fog bulbs in his Outback and I have to say I like it. high and low beam are still 5k white only fog light amber. I am thinking about doing this?? Your thoughts?
Only thing I know about yellow vs white is my understanding that yellow cuts through fog better as it doesn’t illuminate the fog bright white. Beyond that, I’m not sure
@@EverythingElliott I will keep you posted, I will probably order from the jungle store. Lol 😆 try them and go from there, I see they have some called switch back that can change from white to amber to white. Let u know later.
@@EverythingElliott I've already done it. But you can't pull the blade driving forward.. go in reverse using the back of the blade works good... Done it for two and a half months before my loader came in for my tractor.. might see it on one of my videos. But I keep my blade straight I don't angle it
Double check your manual but you shouldn't have to run full throttle for Regen. There is a minimum, my JD is 1500rpm, but unless you're putting a load on the engine you might be making it run longer, especially in winter, as you're pushing a lot of air through the engine, essentially cooling it. I'd almost wager it would be better to use the skip function and plan to Regen the next time you use it and try to put a little bit more load on the engine to help it get hotter👍
On that particular model, when the computer calls for a regen, if RPM is insufficient it shows a blinking yellow light on the dash. You are supposed to increase RPM until the light stops blinking but stays on. Computer decides RPM. The light goes out when it’s done. It always sounds a little different when running a regen. And you’re correct there’s a button that allows deferring regen, which I suppose could be handy if it calls for a regen at a really unhandy time or place. It also has some more complicated stuff for parked regen if you defer too many times. I have about 380 hours on a 2021 L4701 and I’ve yet to defer a regen. So far it’s been kind of a non-issue.
My tractor will not regenerate till it’s at 3000 rpm…and in the summer it never does a stand alone regenerate because I’m working it with the brush hog or tiller. In the winter the only thing I do with it is move snow. Generally it’s not an issue
It’s got shoes on the sides, I do adjust those, but my driveway has a crown for run off so I would be digging out the top of that crown with the steel edge, the rubber has some give and leaves the crown intact
@@EverythingElliott I had nothing in November and one plowable storms in December but January certainly made up for it and I could certainly make a case that it made my season so anything else from here on is icing on the cake so I guess I have nothing to complain about.
Did you notice a difference in the care for your drive between blade forward and driving backwards and conversely blade backwards and driving forward? To me the latter would be kinder to your neck.

My CK 3510 gets about 30 hr before regen, then the only way I know how to do that is brake on and push button when light comes on, then I park it with loader up, goes to high idle for 20 min, then comes down a bit for 5 min, then it's back to normal......
Sometimes I just get sucked into watching way more than I bargained for as well. I actually found a pretty decent way, I mounted caster wheels to my snow blower and it works great. If you go on my channel and search “snowblower wheels” you should find it!
As for whether or not the BB was designed to be used backwards, you tell me why the manufacturer put the extra holes in the turntable and made the blade so it would spin all the way around. You still need to make the blade slippery. Pam cooking spray will work, fluid film will too but is expensive. A wire wheel on your angle grinder will remove the rust without taking the steel too.
I know it was designed to work backwards, I was more pointing at using the backside of the blade. And I know the blade is still sticky, I wanted to do a proof of concept before investing time and effort into perfecting it.
Elliott rocks!
Aye thanks. If you guys are interested in seeing some awesome stump grinding, make sure you check out his channel!
I cut a slit in some pvc pipe and slide that on the bottom of the blade. That seems to prevent unnecessary gouging into the gravel.
I’ve seen a couple guys do that! Glad it works for yah!

The temperature changes we have had are crazy. It was -15 yesterday and 45 today! Makes it tough to get a nice frozen driveway!
This morning Good Works Tractor did a video on this subject. Dude, you're a trend setter!!

I bolted tires into a vee shape and drag them around the first couple snow falls. Makes a base then plow
Like a drag?
curved side toward the enemy ! works great in gravel
I see what you did there ;)

It certainly isn’t ideal. But I don’t think my tractor will regen for much longer…
Why are you pulling snow in middle instead of outside?
I don’t like windrows on the edge of my driveway, so I try to pull it to one location and make piles instead piled along the entire side of the driveway.
Exactly spin it aro and drive forward I do it all the time on my gravel driveway 👍☺️

How much was the front snow pusher. And model number?
If I remember correctly it was around $1,400 when I purchased it. And it’s their 72” model
