600lb difference between the 2 cars. The STi needs a lot more hp to make up for the weight. With the better off-the-shelf handling, the BRZ will smoke the STi in the canyons. Plus, since the BRZ doesn’t have a turbo, it won’t burn oil like the STi.
I knew it you live in that area. I was stationed at Beale but now I’m in Guam. Love your videos. I just got a 2022 Civic Si. Waiting for the goodies 👍🏽
about a 700lbs difference if you count the passenger and maybe a little more considering aftermarket exhaust tend to be lighter than stock they defiantly fixed one of the major issues with the brz
This isn't that surprising. The EJ25 has much higher peak power (305/310 hp) than the FA24 NA (228 HP), but the EJ25 is much more inefficient and has smaller power band due to the old school turbo and unequal length headers setup. The FA24 has a much higher redline (7500) versus (6700) of the STI and has a very flat torque due to it being NA. These factors combined with the 500 pound weight difference make the acceleration pretty even.
Burns oil? Is this typical of Subaru? My 07' Si does so I need to check about once a week to be safe...Good video Cameron, thanks for the content as always.
Thanks for showing this race. I just sold my Stage 2 pro tuned 2012 WRX and have been trying figure out what to replace it with. I think this video sealed the deal for a 2022 BRZ. Really surprised how close that was!
I had a stage 2 2011 WRX with a pro tune that I sold last year. Though the new BRZ really does surprise me, in the almost $40k price range, I'd rather go for something a little more classy and refined with a turbo, or if I'd go NA it would be something with significantly more than a 2.4. Idk, I never really liked the BRZs personally but I understand the appeal, especially now. Not great but surprising.
@@graymatter242 yeah I’m actually torn between the new GR86 or a 2022 Camaro LT1 6 speed manual. I know - kind of a weird combination of cars I’m cross shopping . Main thing is I want a RWD NA car. So the price difference between a GR86/BRZ and LT1 is negligible. What are you looking at getting to replace your WRX?
Instead of destroying the engine by adding boost just swap the final drive to a larger gear. Much safer for the car, cheaper, easier, quicker than adding hp.

Definitely surprised me, and I work for Subaru corporate haha. Glad to hear you're enjoying the 22MY BRZ.
Oh sweet! I'd work for Subaru!
Daaaaamn I was just starting to think "hey the power weight is pretty similar to the wrx now, wonder how it stacks up" and googled to find a comparison... Can't wait to see what a supercharger will do!
600lb difference between the 2 cars. The STi needs a lot more hp to make up for the weight. With the better off-the-shelf handling, the BRZ will smoke the STi in the canyons. Plus, since the BRZ doesn’t have a turbo, it won’t burn oil like the STi.
Fire video bro!!!!!! wish i was there to help film. keep pushing them videos my guy :)
we need to do some videos this week
I knew it you live in that area. I was stationed at Beale but now I’m in Guam. Love your videos. I just got a 2022 Civic Si. Waiting for the goodies 👍🏽
Sti got no top end type r wud gapped tf outta that brz
about a 700lbs difference if you count the passenger and maybe a little more considering aftermarket exhaust tend to be lighter than stock they defiantly fixed one of the major issues with the brz
Power to weight man! Great races brz is sold this time around
we need to see your brz race your type R somehow. curious how that will go down
I'm not doing that. It would be a waste of time and resources. theres no competition in straight lines
@@Camhill182 says the guy who only does roll races on the channel
@@satchels6451 what
@@satchels6451 you do realize his type r will walk this sti by bus lengths, so imagine what it would do to a stock brz lol… think before you type
@@satchels6451 he’s saying the type r will destroy the brz… lol
Crazy. I had a 2014 and never imagined there would be this much difference. They're 100% lying about the crank hp numbers.
Gasoline in CA is no different than gas sold elsewhere in the country. We all use mostly the same suppliers.
The STI is geared VeRY short, allowing the longer geared & higher revving BRZ to keep the gap close
Just raced a new brz last night i have a fbo 300zx na .. i beat him but the brz wasnt far behind very impressed
Burns oil? Is this typical of Subaru? My 07' Si does so I need to check about once a week to be safe...Good video Cameron, thanks for the content as always.
I really wanted a dig race 🏁 but the video was nice!! Thanks
Holy snokesss!!!! Stock BRZ puttin in some work. Definitely not gonna be running any of them 😂 until I get some work done to my car.
Been waiting for this race! Have been thinking of trading my sti for one
lets gooooo another crazy race
That was awesome. Really surprising outcome, but looked like a fun time!
PROPS to the STi cameraman for keeping the action on screen!
I’m actually leaning towards the Camaro now. The markups and availability of the GR86 is terrible now. However, most Chevy dealers will special order a Camaro at MSRP or below where I live. So the price difference between a GR86/BRZ and LT1 is negligible. What are you looking at getting to replace your WRX?
@@daveg6530what did you end up getting?
Instead of destroying the engine by adding boost just swap the final drive to a larger gear. Much safer for the car, cheaper, easier, quicker than adding hp.
"Hey let's do a test everybody wants to see but add a 10% bodyweight anchor to the STi for no fucking reason! Making a person wait outside the car for 3 minutes is too much of a burden to actually do!"
"Yeah bro!"
As an STi owner, the douchey refusal and "confidence" of the guy to take the fucking passenger out of his car for zero reason is peak what people hate about STi owners.
And no, your 91 Cobb OTS tune is not making any real difference in a roll race. It gives you more low end torque, which you're not using. Unless you have a downpipe, I don't even think the OTS tune improves quarter mile times.
Cameron, I know you said to email the hate to him but I had to comment lol. Keep the videos coming on the BRZ, it's damn cool.
Dude the new 2022 brz is officially fast 😳
You were pulling on him right before he let off on the first run
I mean... What did you expect. The sti is a heavy boy. The extra 20-40 hp won't do much. It's the dig that'll make a difference
I’m almost 100% sure those are the buttes in the background @5:14 lmao
