The Councilors' mistake wasn't that they kept Anikin as a Knight, but that they failed to explain to him **why** he wasnt being made a Master. None of the Masters on the council showed THEY deserved their rank in that moment. Instead of using the moment as a teachable lesson and guiding Anikin on the path to become a Master the proper way, Windu simply told him (very rudely) to "Take a seat, young Skywalker." In that moment, I believe Windu gave into the seed of dark fear in his own heart, and sealed their fate. If anyone on that council behaved as a Master should, Yoda included, Anikin may not have fallen.

First mistake was not training him themselves, and allowing a just promoted knight to take on the challenge of training an older youngling who happened to be the chosen one. Pretty dumb move in my opinion . No excuse for it.
What? They’re a religious order and you think the highest most accomplished members of that group need to tell a junior member why they aren’t being elevated as the youngest person EVER? That’s utterly ridiculous.
The council didn’t do anything that showed they shouldn’t be Masters and in fact Anakin showed exactly why HE SHOULDN’T be a master. He was a petulant child and responded like one. An important aspect of being even a Jedi Knight was self control and following what the Order deemed to be right. He exhibited neither in that moment or in many of his actions throughout the war. Even a child’s level of self awareness would have told Anakin that the way he responded is EXACTLY why he wasn’t deserving to be elevated to the rank of Master.
The lesson was being taught to him, but as usual, it went over Anakin’s head when it was anything dealing with patience, wisdom, or authority. And it was always for the same reason, Anakin was incredibly arrogant and felt as though he didn’t need to listen to anyone.
There was nothing even sort of rude about what Windu did, Anakin was WIDELY out of line. To even suggest that it was Windu’s dark side peaking through is just absurd and speaks to the common theme in the Star Wars community of trying to justify Anakin’s actions and blame them on everyone else. The real problem seemed to be that Anakin had become comfortable acting that way and regularly did so with no repercussions.
That's another reason why Anakin was so upset about Ahsoka quitting, he lost the chance for an automatic promotion to master.

Uh just because you have a padawan doesn't mean you get the ranking of Master. Padawan's simply refer to the Jedi training them as Master even though they are usually Knight Level. The Rank of Master usually comes when you do some incredible feat like training multiple padawan's to Knight class or prove your wisdom or deep connection to the force. The main reason Anakin was never made a Master was due to his immaturity and headstrong nature. They put him on the council because they needed someone to spy on Palpatine.
These trials for knighthood also count for our own lives. It is important to endure pain, have courage, motivation and perseverance

This actually makes me wonder if the Jedi Order ignored Anakin's Mother, to potentially test him with the pain of loss. I can fully understand them not making exceptions, but with the potential of how powerfull he could be, giving Anakin peace of mind that his mother was safe and well likely would have prevent him from going down the dark path he went.

No. Listen to how Lucas talks about Shimi. It is about her Letting Go. Anakin has no future on Tatooine. And Shimi apparently uses the money and relationships she has there to gain her freedom and have a family not long afterwards. They go to the Lars Farm a week earlier in Episode II and they see a perfectly happy wife and mother on a small farm.

The jedi had to 24/7 have her monitored. But keep blaming it just the jedi, instead of anakin, who could help or padme.

Anakin was put on the council at the request of Chancellor Palpatine. I don't think the Council had intended to offer him a seat at all.
Perhaps they were correct not to give Anikin the rank of Master. But if they were equally stringent with themselves there were quite a few that also shouldn't have had it.

The councils were always jerks. Best example is ahsoka. They didnt even entertain she was innocent even obi wan completely turned on her rewatch that episode obi wan is a snake. Only plo koon stood by her the only council member with integrity
@@kingofrivia1248 no they weren’t. The Ashoka situation was complicated and was being manipulated by Palpatine to make it even harder to deal with.
They should have apologized to her I will say that, but it’s also not true that they just threw her under the bus because they felt like it. They were being pressured by the Senate.

Here’s one lesson that the Jedi Order should’ve been taught: Emotions don’t always lead the Dark Side. Unkempt emotions can lead down that path but not if they were allowed to express their emotions and feelings in a positive way.
And why do you think that isn’t exactly what they taught? I mean that is almost word for word what Mace Windu said to Jar Jar Binks when he was worried about his girlfriend.

The Jedi embrace positive emotions, like compassion. The issue isnt having emotions, it’s allowing your emotions to cloud your judgement. If you’ve watched the TCW show, it’s one of the lessons Ahsoka learns
Even the line from the Jedi code people love to quote and twist for their agenda, “there is no emotion, there is peace.” When the time comes, you need to focus on peace, not your emotions. It’s like the popular saying people use now, “facts over feelings.”

Both the Jedi and Sith are highly flawed... that is the clear vision George Lucas showed us... there's a reason Luke's Jedi order, and the early orders, don't have even half the rules that the order did in TCW era.

One thing that always irked me was that Anakin KNEW his addition to the Jedi council was at the request of Palpatine, not at the decision of the council itself. Anakin knows it's a political appointment so Palpatine can have an 'inside man' on the council. But then Anakin acts like its disrespectful of the council not to make him Master, while completely ignoring the disrespect the council is being shown (by Palpatine and by extensions by himself) by being forced to add someone to their rank.
Probably due to his accomplishments during the clone wars (not only military, but also intellectual, as he was right about Ahsoka's trial), years of frustration towards the Order as a whole (having to keep the love of his life secret, the disregard for the safety and well-being of Padawan, the lack of action against slavers...), being so close to his goal (becoming a master would have given him access to restricted holocrons where he hoped to find the wisdom to save Padme)... He later collected himself and realized his behavior had been rash.
Also, Anakin failed to see Palpatine's agenda. To him, Palpatine was nothing but a trusted friend who cheered him up when he felt down and gave him helpful insights. So, in his eyes, the promotion was just Palpatine insisting that he is given his due after all he has done for the Order.

Not completely related to the video but wouldn't Mace Windu have been an ideal teacher for Anikin? As he was a jedi who got close to the dark side but was able to channel it into his own light Saber style?
It sounds good in theory, but that would not have worked out. Between Anakin's lack of patience, humility, diplomacy, and emotional control, he would've drove Mace up a wall.

There have been Jedi who have been literal snakes, sentient clouds, and smaller than most lightsabers. Ugors are slime in a space suit.
There's also the Duinuogwuin, which are space dragons.
I think for Pong Krell is he did "Face the Mirror" and that is why he became a knight. When Pong Krell was a master I feel that he felt that the Force was displeased with the Jedi and thought to go to what he felt was going to be a winning side and the side the Force favored. So I can see him passing his Trials of becoming a Knight

The thing is, the Council offered Ahsoka Knighthood, so he probably was entitled to it. I would agree that he was absolutely not ready for it, but he DID meet the requirements. However, the Council should have explained their decision beyond "Have a seat."

I may note that the Jedi firmly believe that all life is sacred so you should never execute prisoners, is probably a reason why Anakin was denied the rank of master, because despite Dooku being so threat anymore (since he lost his arms), and he could have been a valuable prisoner since being the leader of the Separatists he still killed him so he couldn't be trusted to do things like show mercy to everyone so he didn't deserve the position of Jedi master.

I think they were right to not to give him the rank of Master but they should have given him more rights and benfits then any knight along with give him a voice on council. Maybe not the vote but at least let him say his own opinions as well as Palpatine for it is possible that it would have far unlike stop his fall or more likely slow it down.

Question: Does Anakin Skywalker suitable to become a teacher? Not saying that he was a bad teacher for Ahsoka or anything. It's just that if he believed he himself cannot make a good teacher, what made Obi-Wan and the Jedi Council think he can?
If Anakin was made a master he would have been granted access to the restricted section of the Archives and would have been able to check through the Sith artifacts and records and see that there was no way to prevent Padme dying through the dark side. Not only that but when he checked through the master level Jedi archives he probably would have found out there were very clearly force healing abilities... 👀😒
To be fair, the Sith are even stricter while "Ranking up". Becoming a Darth usually means killing one's master. 🙂
I think yoda and the other masters didn't want Anakin on the same level as them was they felt threatened by his power and his ability to sway the people to his cause and they for sure didn't like it so they kept him " under" control as a knight they were blinded by their arrogance and self importance and sowed their downfall as they created Vader
This is one thing that gets me with all this about knight/master - in reality, what difference to his power/ability does a title make? Does he become insanely powerful when they call him a Jedi master instead of a knight? He is who he is, the title you call him means nothing. If he walked away from the order, and was no longer a Jedi, what difference would that make to his power. So fearing him being a master is stupid, either fear him for what he can do, or not - do not fear a stupid label/title given.

You explained how Jedi became knights and masters, but what about padawan? Not every initiate became a padawan. Some failed there trials, and others passed, but weren't chosen like Kenobi was in the apprentice series.

The road to Knighthood alone is difficult, so the road to Masterhood is even greater. I'm still trying to become a Knight, every time I think I'm close with my increasing knowledge of Star Wars lore you come out with another video that proves I'm still a Padawan, Grand Master Geetsly, but I'll get there eventually, someday.

@@kingorange7739 I know I've been watching his content for 4 years now, so it's impressive to see how far his videos have come.
Not to say the earlier ones where bad, but there are some I still enjoy like his explaining why The Clone Wars got darker as the conflict went on, The Good Side of the Separatists the writers never let us see, or his video where deduced which Jedi had the least amount of Clone casualties and he concluded it to be Obi-Wan do to him actually caring about his troops and being a Form 3 master, but the later stuff, like some the series are really good with how much the quality has improved.
@@zexalbrony4799 Perfectly agreed. And it is nice he is willing to bring up topics few other content makers do. He gets rather philosophical with his videos and I love it. Even when I don't always agree with him, he always has a way to promote a respectful and engaging community.

About Anikin, I think it might’ve been a little of both, but who can say for sure.
I think the Jedi council never granted Anakin the rank of master because his Padawan, Ahsoka, never reached the rank of knight.
Ashoka wasn't in the picture so that had nothing to do with anything. Secondly, it happened at the end of the CW and the event that the Council refused Anakin to the rank of Master much much earlier and before Ashoka was even around.

I like to think that some Jedi were tested by the Force directly. There may be several reasons for the Force to take such actions, but I think the main ones are 1.) There were no Masters to teach them or 2.) The Force deemed the current given Master as inadequate to provide sufficiently insightful trials. For the first case, examples would be people like Caleb Dume or Galen Marik, both of whom lacked a Jedi Master to provide such trials. An example for the second case would be Anakin Skywalker. Obi-Wan was a very capable Jedi Master in his own right, but his attachment and bond with his apprentice went beyond that of a typical Master and Padawan. Such attachment, as well as Anakin’s own powerful presence in the Force (and the fact that he was born from the Force itself), would have hindered any trials that Masters in the Jedi Order may have given. As such, Anakin’s trials were provided by many events in his life that were guided by the will of the Force. Which leads me to my next theory that Anakin’s Trial of Spirit actually came well into his Knighthood, when he was standing before Mace Windu and Palpatine. The test was to see if he would finally let go of his fear of loss and choose the way of the Jedi, in spite of the many grudges he held against the Council and desperation to save his wife, or if he would succumb to his worst fears and fall to darkness. Needless to say, he failed. This is just a theory of course, and in hindsight it is a bit extreme, considering that this so called Jedi Trial cost the entire Order its life. But considering he was the Chosen One, maybe it needed to be that extreme.
The force proclaims itself through us. As it was thru Anakin. The council (I imagine) thought they were doing what the force willed, but the force IS balance. Be the balance or get balanced. Sith/Jedi, light/dark, padawan/grandmaster, savior/destroyer are but imperfect descriptions of less than accurately understood observations of what ultimately will prove to have been. They found out the hard way, unfortunately, they didn't have the authority to grant or deny Anakin's real title. That which balances the unbalance... That which brings what was always coming... The title whats name we do not speak.
Memes aside allowing Anakin to be a member of the council without being a master was both outrageous and unfair to all the council members that came that had to prove themselves a hundred times over before they were even considered for the position
Wasn't Ki Adi Mundi a Jedi Knight at the time, not a Master, when he first ascended to the rank of the High Council? So what happened with Anakin isn't unheard of.

Because the Council ran Ahsoka off, they really OUGHT to have allowed Anakin the rank he earned. Barring that, they owed him further explanation beyond "Take a seat."
@@benjaminbrockway5998 no one is “entitled” to the rank of Master that mentality is the same as Anakin’s and is EXACTLY why he shouldn’t have been made a master. His Padawan went through an extraordinary ordeal that made her worth of being a Jedi. It didn’t mean Anakin was ready to be a Master. Hell, he didn’t even train her for three years, that’s hardly enough time claim that you fulfilled being a trainer of Jedi in a way that would be a justification for being a Master.
He was not “owed” an explanation. I don’t know why you’re not making this connection but everything you just described is exactly why Anakin should not be a Master. You actually perfectly laid out why his mentality made him ineligible to be a Master at that point.
If training a Padawan to Jedi Knight was an automatic promotion, there should have been A LOT more jedi Masters at the end of the republic. Most jedis fighting were knights with Palawans, and as mentioned by Mace Windu in the phantom menace, it is rather uncommon for a Jedi to take more than one padawan in their lifetime. That would require close to a 1-1 ratio of masters and knights, which is completely bonkers.

I am wondering in which era the "knighting Ceremony" became utilized. As playing in SWTOR 3,000 BBY you don't really have this, although your character becomes first a Padawan, then a Knight, then a Master (If not DS originally, but gamers complained so they gave it to all - although it wasn't mentioned by the NPCs, Satele Shan after Corellia chews you out if you are Dark Side .
Well looks like every jedi was slacking in their Trials of Insight as palpy just pulled wool over the entire jedi order.

I honestly think it was a test. If Anakin had simply sat down in humble silence i imagine Yoda, Plo Koon, and Kenobi would probally have spoken up. Sometimes we are harsh to our students for a reason.
Everyone seems to ignore what you said in that last sentence, everyone is saying “why didn’t they just explain why he wasn’t made a master,” like he was entitled to an explanation. His reaction is a major reason why, and the fact he never realized that says quite a bit about him.
Sadly i have to agree. Anakin failed the test and was punished for it. You saw it in Obi-wan's face. Anakin thought he was so big and bad. Yet he didn't see his flaws.

Frankly as strong as Anakin was, he clearly never understood what it took to actually be a Jedi. If it weren’t for the Clone Wars he seems like the type that actually might have stayed a Padawan for a while. He was immensely powerful in the force, but on the philosophy and wisdom side of being a Jedi, he was sorely lacking.

Jedi Ranks aren't power levels. They are WISDOM Levels. It is not based on strength.
Jedi gain ranks as they become older, gain experience, and become wiser.
We know some Jedi Knights are are stronger in combat than some Jedi Masters.

He kinda promoted himself after the events of the Dark Empire comics (9-10ABY), but he didn't really become a proper Master until probably ten years later when he finally understood that his approach to the Force was blinding him to the more subtle aspects. I can't remember the exact words in Vision of the Future, but I'm pretty sure it boiled down to Mara telling him "When you're constantly shouting, it's easy to miss the whispers", and Luke realising "And the way I've been using the Force the last ten years has been like I'm constantly shouting".
Mara also forced him to eat humble pie and confront his arrogance in proclaiming himself a Master so soon after coming back from the Dark Side, starting an Academy so soon, putting it on Yavin 4 and not getting the hell out of dodge when they found out about Exar Kun's spirit haunting the place, and... well pretty much everything he did in the Jedi Academy trilogy.
Some would say he became a Master after the Jedi Academy trilogy (11ABY) because most of his initial class of adult apprentices graduated, but their training would be considered woefully inadequate by the Jedi of the Prequel era and thus not counted as fully training a Padawan to Knighthood, but Luke did the best with what he could find.

It would have been cool If Luke Had His students tò choose If they wanted tò learn by books and experience alone or If they wanted a group of study. And Jedi Masters shouldn't have taught that way, only helping and advising, but letting students have experience by themselves

Interesting. So when Ahsoka walked out of the Jedi Order after being framed by Bariss, Anakin's best chance of getting to the rank of master walked out with her. In fact by the time of Order 66 and Ahsoka's defeat of Maul you could say that Ahsoka had satisfied all of the tests to become a Jedi Knight.
And of course with the rank of Master that he so desired clearly soon to be within his grasp, how much harder would it have been for Palaptine to sway Anakin to the dark side with fewer perceived slight to rile him against the Jedi order? (Not to mention the benefit Ahsoka's presence would bring to him in resisting Palpatine's influence)

I have said this all along and I’m glad to see this channel also say it. Namely, the council was absolutely right to not grant him the rank of master. However it’s for that same reason I don’t lay the blame on the council for his downfall at all. Anakin’s ambition his inability to control his fear and anger after being warned is what did him in. Like he said, Vader killed Anakin, not Obi wan or the council.
I think you disagree with that part but I’ll take any agreement.
Anakin's biggest problem was being trained by Obi-Wan. He was a fresh knight and was completely unready for the job as a master. The way he treated and molded Anakin was a cause for so much of the young man's sheer arrogance and other issue that was allowed to evolve under Obiwans watch.
That is because he was more of a surragate older brother than a father to him. If qui-jon had survived, he would have made a better master for Anakin. BUT... then you wouldn't have the movie. 🙂

They had a rank system. That's all there is to it? It's not like anyone was confused about it.
The Jedi should've opted much earlier to train their padawan's in how to curb their egos and thus their negative emotions too.
It was a wise decision for the Jedi Council to deny Anakin. He needed to learn more self mastery.

So the requirement was 10 years? So if someone was brought in at age 3 and another was brought in at age 4 they would both have to study for 10 years which would make their ages varied

Anakin was always unorthodox the Jedi Masters were far too traditional.
We all know the Jedi Council could have handled it better. I can't the humiliation Anakin must felt when he was denied the rank of Master. Yet told to take a seat like some disobedient child.
Anakin would've been totally fine with being denied master, if he was also denied a seat on the council. He explains it's insulting to be on the council and not a master. Anakin felt like the council was too politically motivated to say no to either his council seat or to make him a master. If they instead made him a partial council member, in the effect he wouldn't have an actual seat, but would be brought into council meetings, it mightve been different. Instead they sat him in the seat of a master, while denying him the rights thereof.
