    For those who are struggling and depressed, I know it isn’t easy. Especially hard to go on when you don’t feel validated, and when everybody around you seems better than you. It’s not all your fault, you were dealt a bad hand. But have faith, a bad hand might be a blessing in disguise, you never know. Never give up.

      Depression affects many people including me at certain times. Counseling is sometimes necessary. Remember that internal validation and reaching GOALS with a practical and a strategic
      approach is typically more important than external validation. Unless your in the entertainment industry and even then INTERNAL VALIDATION IS HUGE.

Letting go of your ego is so difficult. Put it on a shelf so you can pick up other book to read. Learning is everything and people who don't deal with extreme difficulties don't learn. You learn from the struggle far more than when everything comes easy to you. Figure out what you know that they don't and use it as a tool that don't have because it's yours and it your life that matters not their's!!! Your not dead, you are alive and learning & learning. You might be more evolved than you give yourself credit for because of the struggle!!!🤔🤔🤔

    This is my first time hearing about the idea of the sublime, but it reminded me of something pretty recent in my life(not nearly as grand as climbing everest). I was taking a walk towards the end of this winter about a mile away from my immediate neighborhood(suburbs) and I was went down this long street. It was cold, dry, and windy. It was uncomfortable but peaceful. And I turned the corner and was met with heavenly rays of sunlight reflecting off the grass and trees. The sky looked like a painting. The warmth of the sun and the cold wind was hitting my face all at once. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. The wind felt like it was cracking my skin but I felt this rush of peace and gratitude that I’ve felt only a few times. My facial muscles were seizing up from the cold but I was so happy to be alive and feel something. Maybe I’m being naive but maybe I had a little peek into the sublime.

    I choose to disbelieve the importance of starting young when it comes to self-development considering I'm 47 years old and finally able to see/absorb information to the degree where I can not only process it but use it for change and growth. I'm considering my 47 years (and unfortunate zip code, autism, lack of parental guidance/encouragement in childhood, physical conditions and traumatic experiences collected over time as a result thereof) as particular challenges I have been handed in order to develop the unique and infinite capabilities I have been carrying but could not release without the proper sequence of events, like the combination on the padlock of my potential. Yeah, I'm late and Yeah, I'm challenged, but I've got moxy, damnit, and I'm freaking awesome.

    Robert, remember that the LEFT brain ( in a right handed person) is the one that leads us into the realm of the divine. It's fascinating to listen to you talking about the low percentage of " chance" for us, evolving as humans for billions of years and to know that only the right brain is talking since the stroke involved your left brain. I am hoping for you and your readers that you will personally experience the divine and then write about it. It's also fascinating to hear you talk about the frustration of small movements and yet your rational thinking at how amazing the human body is and how we should be grateful! It's a paradox and I love listening to the right brain human nature talking about our divine nature or the lack of it. You might have guessed by now that I personally experienced during my first meditation a NDE that was a mystical experience beyond this world. I am Left brain dominant but I'm also a physician and a surgeon. In addition, I have had mystical experiences since age 11 that I did not understand. In fact it was terrifying to me at this age. Now, I am aware of our true nature and very interested in the divine being accessible to some and not to others. It's as if doubt had flourished in the last few centuries... I RECOGNIZED the divine during my experience. It's a non rational experience and this makes it difficult to talk or write about. We all have the knowledge. We have however created and encouraged doubt. Your testimony is fascinating. Everything is relative indeed. I'm waiting for you to let that left brain heal by allowing it to BE. You are a wonderful man. Everything you do is sacred. You have been touched by Grace and it will be happening again, I promise, as soon as you are able to recognized that truth.

    • @elmtree33
      @elmtree33 7 месяцев назад +5

      Why do you think Robert Greene has not experienced the divine? Just because he hasn't written about it did not mean he has not experienced it. We are not his intimate partners who know him that well. You are making inferences about people with little to no evidence.

    • @LexLexington23
      @LexLexington23 Месяц назад +1

      Also, it is through having had a stroke and resulting to lack of movements that one has an understanding and appreciation of the body and can comment on it wholeheartedly.
      Nothing to do with logic or divine, but simole experience and gratitude of what is by previously having then not having (via disability) and then working to achieve the ability again , the work was not needed before the disability, hence the re frame and gratitude if a body we all take for granted.
      You say you're a surgeon.
      What of? Finger splinters?
      Have you ever met people who have to serious surgery, after their surgery?
      Do you start condescending to them about their experiences?
      Have YOU ever been disabled by illness or injury for longer than a week of flu?
      Oh and by the way, all this comes from someone who is So called "left brained " and "right brained" although this science is now being disproved....
      I'm a learned medical and psych scientist and work in creative and performing arts.
      Divine and flow are available to anyone who cares to seriously meditate and become self aware, if they did indeed loose touch from it when going through the mill of life.

    Speaking as someone from Scotland, if you want the sublime, you might want to go for a walk in the Scottish Highlands. It won't be as dangerous as climbing Everest etc., but it will certainly give you a sense of your smallness in the vastness of the cosmos and put things into perspective. In the meantime, go for a walk to the highest hill nearest you and sit and look out over your hometown or the city in which you live and you can get the same experience.

    I love Robert Greene!! I deeply connected with him on so many levels, he is philosophical without the smoke and mirrors, he is down to earth with spot on advice. A lot of people think "The 48 Laws of Power" is a morality book on how to be but it's not, it's a book on what reality IS. It's not idealistic and altruistic of what should be, it's literally what people are doing and you should try to understand those people MORE because they are often those in power or feening for power. Robert is my unofficial mentor. I also just picked up his new book-- going to have a Robert Greene marathon. Thank you Tom for having him on!

HE IS A FULL SPECTRUM NARC! I kept going back thinking he would change. LMAO, 6 TIMES. Hello, That is the deficit of insanity. For Real.
      I didn't even see the pattern of leaving relationships before people can "abandon" me.

      Now that you know it's real, you ask yourself if the way your acting in a certain situation is rooted in reality, or driven by your relationship with your mother. Are you attracted to these women because it is real attraction, or are you trying to relive your relationship with your mother.
      I had emotional abandonment from my mother. I acted out by having the mentality that I'm leaving my significant other before they leave me. After a year or so in a relationship I looked for any reason to leave her before she left me. As you can imagine I left a long trail of broken hearts and damaged a lot of women. I'm not proud of that. I changed when I almost died. I experienced the sublime that Robert is talking about.

      I thought his “Art of Seduction” was a blot on his reputation. He advocated some ghastly strategies to nail women. It was appalling.
      A few quotes:
      “People want to be led astray, they yearn to be seduced. If they didn’t, seducers would not find so many willing victims. Get rid of any moralizing tendencies.”
      “Never let your targets get too comfortable with you. They need to feel fear and anxiety. Show them some coldness, a flash of anger they did not expect. Be irrational if necessary.”
      His 24 rules flirts with amorality. Women are described as targets or victims, to be drawn into temptation, and to achieve the seducer’s ends he should attempt to elicit fear in his quarry.
      Nasty.

    Interview impacted me greatly. I was a relatively healthy fit and active 35 year old woman. Then I got extremely sick sicker than I've been in my entire life after that it turned into post viral syndrome after that a couple of autoimmune diseases surfaced. Then I was consequently also diagnosed with chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia I know those last are a bit of an issue for the Skeptics but my neurologist and rheumatologist verify they are legitimate medical disorders, stigma aside, I went from healthy to barely being able to hold down a part-time job and care for myself. I am exhausted and in pain all the time sleep doesn't help I am feeble it's like I went from 30 to 80 overnight and I could absolutely relate when you asked how he copes with his limitations. Every word he said about dealing with his situation struck a major chord for me. You really do have to figure out an entirely different way to approach life and thinking and being when your health and or a vital aspect of your body is taken away from you. Thank you for asking him that personal question

Such an honest talk that was so refreshing to hear. At some point in my life I hit the place where I both realized that I probably was not going to achieve mastery in a lot of things I always had some level of interest in. At the same time, I found myself being really moved by greatness in just about any field. Watching someone who found their thing whether it was in science, sports, the arts, cooking, I mean literally anything really chokes me up. It is like utter amazement at what human beings can do. The conversation of the first half was also excellent and I sent it to my 20-something son as he in the process of deciding who he is going to be.

    I love it when Robert says there’s no reason to be envious in the first place. I have learned this over the years. When we have an ego that is needy, that’s when we feel envy. I’ve run into people who are blatantly envious of things in me that I have no control over! Like my looks or how I think. Or my skills- and they’ve actually tried to knock me down because of that. And the crazy thing is that I seldom recognize it, someone points it out. I’ve learned now to recognize envy better and this has helped me avoid them before a hurt occurs to either of us. I’m not egocentric by saying this, it’s just that there are people who are innately or constantly envious. It starts by comparing yourself to others.
    Don’t do that. Be happy with the miracle that you are- as Robert says.
