Here's a video I made which highlights amazing and not so well known details in Saints Row Games specifically Saints Row 1 & Saints Row 2 as they have the most depth in the series. Hopefully this video will show details you weren't aware of before, let me know in the comments if you learned something new. I've seen a lot of videos showing off details in games like GTA, Mafia and Red Dead but not very many on Saints Row so I made this video.

NPCs killing each other is one of the best things about saints row
there was a cheat code in SR2 that made the whole world do that. It was so fun. You only found peace while being in the air.

When I was younger I had the most fun in sr2 when I’d turn in the cheat pedestrian war or something and go to saint territory because it would cause all out war all over the place between the saints and everyone else it was so chaotic it would make my Xbox frame up
@John Briar I can’t remember although you should be able to look up all cheat codes for sr2 I know it’s name is “pedestrian war” but I can’t remember the code
I know, I kinda hated how the gangs in SR3 were all under Morningstar so weren't hostile towards eachother and how Saints territory didn't have Saints roaming the streets.
I actually lost my first few canonized fights in SR1. So, your “original” is actually the alternate fight for me. :)
I always assumed it was a forced loss and you were just seeing how long you could hold out till you got swarmed.
If you earn nothing before the canonisation, you'll find you've been rewarded extra cash - and I believe you can buy a Tier 2 pistol instead of Tier 1 with what you earn (a nice extra reward I suppose). :)

@@matthewdickerson9343definitely it was the first time being introduced to how melee combat works in the series.
Little details like this is what makes a game truly brilliant. You can just feel the immersion. You can actually feel like you're doing stuff. This is back when developers actually cared about details, immersion, enjoyment, and most importantly, quality. Instead of how many loot boxes they could fit in. Or how much money they can wrench out. This is true quality.
Edit: For those who want to be a stickler, let me finish my thoughts. So many games come out with unfulfilled promises, broken mechanics, glitches everywhere, as of recently super grindy, and they overall just feel soulless. There's an overall decrease in gaming quality. Obviously, this does not apply for every game and company. No, I'm not saying every single game comes out horrible and full of micro transactions. Just wanted to specifically say this for those who can't / couldn't understand what I meant.
They still do. Now they just exploit workers to make it a selling point.

If you think developers don't care anymore, you're deluded.
Those lootboxes and such are not a developer decision but a publishing one. There's still incredible attention to detail in modern games. Don't be that guy. 😅

Oh, i guess i left out the last bit of my thoughts and created some confusion. My Problem with developers isn't just loot boxes and money grubbing. It's the fact that nowadays the overall quality of games sunk. I see game breaking bugs and broken mechanics 24/7 in darn near every new game i play. Yes certain companies like EA rush their developers all the time before a game is actually complete, but are you really telling me that's the case for every single company? Even when they update to "fix" certain bugs(if ever) the bugs practically never get fixed, half the time get worse or flat out create more. You're telling me this is only on the top brass? You can tell there's a sense of complacency even in the developers.
I used the shock paddles on a garbage bag and it exploded, and I'm thinking, "somebody considered this and programmed that.".
Few other details from SR2 from the top of my head:
1. Almost every number on every billboard/wall or anything can be called thru the phone.
2. Idling in different locations will cause you to make different animations (for example in the graveyard you take a knee down).
3. The lighthouses work.
4. During night/bad weather/wrath of god cheat, i dont remember, the distant unreachable islands flash lights.
5. The npc's will take pictures of you beating someone up.
6. Npc's do unique stuff like gardening, lifeguarding etc etc.
7. Idling in the menu will trigger a cool backstory video to start playing.
8. Radio news change over the story.
9. You can visit Shogo's grave.
10. The loading screen pictures change as the story progresses.
11. Radio station names change over certain events.
For 11th one
I remember being so confused when generation X became Ultor FM
I'm not even going to cap I would make up my own stories while holding a pedestrian in front of the cops they didn't even need to add this detail but they did and I'm happy for that one

I remember in SR2, if you stay idle on the street for a few minutes, your character will automatically move a bit to the side, sometimes lean against a housewall, and start smoking or drinking.
Thats the reason why I like about SR2.
And it can be different in each place like when you are close to a hotdog seller your character will buy a one
Pretty sure that the boss moves to one of the npc animation nodes so that's why the random animations happen
Or talk to pedestrians
If you're standing near the edge of water where you see NPCs fishing, your character will walk over and fish along side with a fishing pole.

So I have pretty much every unique vehicle and I can’t see myself getting bored for years
I was still playing last gen gta online up until late 2018 when I finally got a next gen console

I'm hoping the reboot goes back to its roots and bring back some features from the first 2 games. Seems unlikely tho.

Playing with millenials does not fit the story, but i will rather see entire game walkthrough and decide for myself if it be good.

The cops that attack mc reminds me to Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2-4 cops/security.

I know the story and characters will probably be cringy at best but I'm mostly just interested in some fun gameplay. But with the way game releases have been the past couple years, I'd rather wait for a review before actually buying.

These details along with Saints Row 1 car graphics‚ saints row 3 remastered character graphics and Saints Row 2 customization in Saints Row 5 would make it top notch.
This is one of the other reasons Saints Row is my favourite franchise

Saints row has some amazing details.
Small details in games show that the devs really care
7:18 that was perfectly placed with that roundhouse and Donnie going head first into the coffee machine.
Kenny Michaels will and always be the best voice for Saints Row, was there from the beginning hopefully he'll be in the next one.
I remember one time i was walking around in the fine streets of Stilwater until... I heard a lady say, "I wonder what carlos is doing, oh right hes dead" Then i grabbed an rpg and blew her up

I like how game weather affect cutscenes. Morning, night, rain it's all in missions except Rest in Piece, Jailbreak, Toxic mission, Red Asphalt, Ronin Airport mission and Samedi Jailbreak mission. Does SR1 Game weather affect cutscenes?
@@saint- SR3 have only 4 time period. In SR4 you always have the same night and you can't change only after completing the story.

I agree, they’re fun but just kinda hollow
And SR3. I love that game, but I'm not gonna act like it didn't piss off on a LOT details as well. It was the start of decline in quality.
My favourite detail I noticed while playing SR2 is that if an NPC calls the cops for any reason, a police car will ACTUALLY respond. I don’t mean you getting a wanted level, I mean you watch an NPC pull out their phone and talk to the cops.
Try it for yourself! I wouldn’t recommend trying to do it via attacking NPCs since that just causes them to run in terror.
The one with the dirty clothes is so unique I did not even know about it and I can't think of any other game that would have this!

SR1 and SR2 had so much attention to detail
The first time I heard a NPC whistle for a taxi in SR1 I thought my character whistled by accident
I was shocked that in SR2 hookers would actually go up to cars, poke their heads in, then get in and drive away with other NPCs.

Here's one: Yachts and Sharks will spawn in your way if you put the boat in cruise control and don't touch the controller.

No wonder I love these games so much, the amount of details is incredible until today. A lot of today's games don't have these details for example the permanent destruction of scenery caused by the story mission, it's awesome! I love saints row games and love this channel !!

This is why I prefer the first 2 games to the newer entries. It's these little details that make the first 2 games that much more enjoyable.
I always loved the randomized NPCs during cutscenes, and cutscenes running off the in game engine's weather and time of day.
As nice as the new engine was, they really lost a lot of the small details that made the city feel alive. NPCs in the first 2 games would actually do unique stuff instead of just wandering aimlessly on the sidewalk. Steelport being a boring city was bad enough.
Plus I don't understand how they couldn't implement a day/night cycle in the 3rd game.
It honestly pains me to see how some people just dismiss the 1st Saints Row game; such an underrated game that deserves more love.
Probably my least favorite thing about the first two saints row games is the render range. If an npc is out of your view and over five feet away they’ll despawn. Makes insurance fraud and chop shop really annoying.

True, Insurance Fraud is an overrated activity. I don't know how it got to appear in so many Saints Row games.
Videos like these really go to show that if you want better or more memorable games, you don't need any advance in technology anymore, you just need more effort going into the games already being made.
Picking fights with pedestrians in the the first Saints Row game is so addictive. The voice acting, the physics. Fun times.

The fact that you only showed gameplay of SR and SR2 means that you're one of the few who considers SR and SR2 the only and true Saints Row games, same as me, i respect that mate.
Saints row took a real downturn at 3. Rather have worse graphics if the game is just better and didn’t lose half of the customization and feel it used to have
Love the Havok physics, map memory (game remembers where you parked your car) and followers behaviour (they go shopping with you etc)
That's why my favorite Saints Row is 1 and 2

Another neat detail I seldom see in Saints Row 2 is random NPCs holding up stores, with their dedicated voice clips and all, though I think that occurs mostly in poorer areas, like the Factories district
Anyone else notice that these details aren't in 3 and 4? You'd really think they'd put in even more small details but no they cut them all

One of the most amazing details was the different numbers on the roofs of the police cars because it actually felt like different Stillwater police units were being dispatched after the player instead of police cars with no numbers I also loved the swat helicopter that came after you at 4 stars with the searchlight it made the police chases feel more realistic even though both games were very comical and slapstick like destroy all humans 1 and 2 the Stillwater police department is also based off the NYPD

1:43 IIRC, this was a deliberate mechanic to remind the player to vary their outfits (and get more Respect)
That’s odd, i’ve also had it happen with a max respect outfit before. I assumed it had to with respect values but it just seems random at times.
It's the small details like these that make these games so great

The rain also makes pedestrians pull out umbrellas or hold a newspaper over their head, and some will simply run for cover. SR 1 and 2 had the best peds. Especially when they would get confused and jump in front of your car instead of away from it. lol
I'm pretty sure if I remember correctly that if you have 3 gang members with you and you get in a 2 door car, the other two will steal another one and follow.
There was one thing interesting I found out recently. If you linger in the garage for too long a random NPC will come by and steal the car.

great details in both Classic Saints row Games
Two personal favorites of mine are that in one VK mission, your team actually switches to the Vice Kings, another is that aside from mission critical dialogue, there are tons of others that use context (i.e. what mission you’re on) for stuff that would otherwise be general instances.
The same mission is a prime example:
Colliding with a vehicle with Johnny Gat: “You did that to make the Vice Kings look bad, right?”
Or even walking by a fellow Saint:
“You better hope Julius doesn’t see you wearing that.” (Maybe this is general based on you wearing a yellow shirt?)
I like how a 2006 and 2008 game, had more details than a 2013 (GTA V) game it has, sure GTA V has details, but SR1 and 2 had multiple

Playing SR2 now my Xbox 360, forgot how good this damn game is.
2006 Saints Row, it's pretty much like the first time Dad or Mom showing their child the basic mechanics of life, the overall point is to make a skilled gamer with various gameplay strategies.
Unlike most games like Sleeping Dogs that don't really give you no specific instructions on what to watch out for and basic controls to the point where you could easily walk around the corner of Hong Kong & get jumped respawning at the nearest hospital only for Sleeping Dogs to now tell you the controls.
Again you're better off playing 2006 Saints Row and Saints Row 2, than playing various video games that are trying to piss you off like Sleeping Dogs, Grand Theft Auto V/online etcetera.
It's not that most of us don't mind the challenge, it's just when the enemy NPC starts cheating like crazy not really fighting fair.
Also before I forget, the last mission of the Los Carnales involving Dexter "Dex" Jackson piss poor driving skills, all I can say is just practice your aim & treat the few in-game deaths as small annoying inconvenience reminding yourself where to shoot while cuss out the most hateable fictional character video game history 50 ways until Sunday.

This right here, is what separates good games from great games
We all know in SR2 that after Veteran Child dies, 89.0 Generation X becomes 89.0 Ultor FM. That’s not the only station they buy though. Halfway through completing the game, Ultor buys 105.0 Ezzzy FM and turns it into 105.0 The World FM. The music genre changes from easy listening to world music, and the DJ becomes depressed and openly rebels against Ultor taking over, telling people to boycott the station.
I never noticed Ultor buys Emmy radio
Dude that first one with the alternative cutscene if you beat up enough saints I used to get that so often as a kid in fact I didn’t realise you could lose there until I replayed it recently as an adult and realised I suck

and these details are only the tip of the iceberg, cant wait for the next entries ^^
My favorite thing back in the day was drinking a beer and throwing it on someone, or the throwing up gesture on people 😂😂😂

Johnny Gat's delivery of Blood in Blood out is so good. Best line in saints 1 for me.
Still play Saints Row 2 and 3 to this day using the Pimp Slap (SR2) and Apoca-Fists (SR3)
