Like the difference in writing between the first game and the reboot is staggering. That first cutscene displays the tone of the gangs, Julius’s commanding personality, Johnnys cockiness, Lins straight edgeness, all with witty dialogue that flows great. The new one feels like a bad pbs special.
Which makes it all the more satisfying when the sequel to the reboot is gonna have a proper speech again. The way I see it the reboot has set up great for something much bigger. I wouldn't be surprised if we get another Saints Row in a year or 2.
I've always said; 1 and 2 are Oscarworthy writing, directing, voice acting. They went with celeb voices to give it a very cinema vibe. 3 and 4 felt like some of the tamer Adult Swim shows. Reboot... sloppy. Immature, bland, safe, weightless, non-captivating, cringe, contradictory, lazy, and much more. the case is that the peak talent left Volition over time. Now we have mostly post-graduate devs given the tools to build the franchise. They smashed an expensive vase and claim it art.

Man, I love how in SR3 speech, we can see how heartless and selfish Killbane really is, and at the same time we can also see the opposite with the Boss Like Killbane has no plan, he just wants to be the leader of this war where he doesn't stand a chance, and the Saints have Kinzie, Angel and Z to slowly destroy them, slowly but safe
A grand chunk of that potential could be replenished if they'd just honor their vow to fix SR2. In the past decade I've hooked three people into the series with it, and even one of them became way more obssessed with it than me, which I didn't imagine possible. It's a fun, well written/directed/voiced/mechanically-sound. Bringing stable dedicated co-op back would literally change lives.

Not a fan of Saints Row 4, but that was one hell of a speech. My favorite has got to be the 2nd speech aka Playa's 1st speech. He really felt himself there, standing on top, being the leader, the new Julius.
the 1st and IV are my favourite, the first really sets the tone for the entire game and the intentions of julius, it's really amazing simply put, and IV is a last speech of hope to the last people from earth currently existing in the universe, for all the friends and people they lost, the saints were to overcome near impossible odds, of being naked and stripped of all weapons in a simulation, to taking over an alien empire.

How God of war 3 ended LED straight into God of war 4 God of war 4 is a reboot but it's not a reboot. That is exactly how this game should have been and that's what I was hoping they were going for they had the ability to soft reset yet still keep the old saints in the same universe but they chose to go down a terrible route. Or at least do how devil May cry 5 did they reboot it was a soft reboot that pretty much ignored yet didn't ignore a lot of the events in the previous games revamping everything and bringing s*** back from the old games while introducing new things.
@@oneblacksun I'd respectfully disagree. SR1 definitely feels outdated, but SR2; still holds up to me. They went with the smartphone menu because those had just come out that year. Still holds up today because those haven't evolved. 2's Stilwater always felt ahead of it's time, especially with the hyper-modern Ultor district and uptown. I think a true-to reboot could happen without having to roll-back, nothing really tying it to a specific year.
I would argue that the Original quadrology's speeches were the absolute best and appropriate as well, from kicking things off in SR1 and 2, to starting off in steelport in SRTT, and doing it for survival in SRIV.

I had this pathetic pipedream that in this rebooted timeline, Julius meets the Santa Ileso Saints and double-crosess them. Bankrupts them, takes the name, and sets up on the Row in Stilwater. He feels that this "gang" that made a name for itself in SI would be recognized in Stilwater, and make the city believe they had set up shop in town. Yes, someone tries to double-cross them in the reboot story, but they're plenty dense enough to fall for it twice.
Dude, that honestly probably would've made the story at least more decent. Have it be intentionally bad, have them be these wannabe nobodies who think they can run the show, then when Julius shows up, works his way up, betrays and kills them all, and rebuilds the Saints in his image, kickstarting Saints Row 1. Obviously the setting would've had to be changed to early-to-mid 2000s, but still.

Carlos Mendoza, Aisha, Lin, Troy Bradshaw, Johnny Gat, Shaundi, Pierce Washington, Madam Vicki, Ralph, Deborah, Tobias, Laura. All of these memorable beloved main & side characters with lovable personality in 2006 Saints Row & Saints Row 2 erased from existence because Volition clowns want to be Twitter clout chasing Chicken Boo from Animaniacs. Anyway, if you complete the story arc of the Brotherhood in Saints Row 2 one of the Saints NPC will console your original customizable protagonist after avenging the death of Carlos Mendoza which I'm sure had some of us crying because he was that ideal best friend to which the the game would have a safe our anger until the time is right to give The Brotherhood hell for killing our original customizable protagonist's bestie. William Sharp died in the most satisfying way for a fictional antagonist in a video game, the power of karma he took the life of Lin therefore our original customizable protagonist takes his life. I still hate Donnie in 2006 Saints Row & Saints Row 2, that unlikable pansy of a character you can't stand seeing around running with the Westside Rollerz & The Brotherhood.
Wow, I never even knew Carlos' last name. Now I feel like complete crap. But yeah... it's clear to me that this new team didn't bother much with the originals, probably played 3 and 4 through college. Probably went out into the southwest and did every drug they could get their hands on, then came back to the boardroom and did more drugs.
I feel like the reboot one could have been something special. The whole idea of 'we're good at what we do, let’s start our own gang' theme it had was pretty good, it just fell flat. Set it later when there isnt a guy getting stitched up, and drop the jokes and the one guy's hesitation, and it could have actually been something. As it is though, its just kind dumb.
For anyone who's already seen the video or played the game, the speech in the SR 2022 reboot at the church during the gang's formation is Voltition (The Boss) takling directly to us, the audience (the Saints members) about how they feel about the franchise as a whole.
You don't realize just how bad it is until you line them up like that.... Of course the sub-reddit will say the reboot opening is better because they're coping so hard. A lot of them are actual developers posing as fans.
Every time I hear the new one, I actially get pretty mad. Like, everything else about the reboot leaves me disapointed, but hearing that poser of a boss say, "It's our time now," actually sets me off. That little joke has no right right to say it; they haven't earned it.
Before the reboot, saints row had some element of emotion. They wanted to reboot the series. How are you going to do that with 15 years of nostalgia. They literally copy and pasted what made SR special and put it on to characters we have no sympathy for.
Jesus christ all speeches had some emotion except Reboot. 1 and 2 had street like speech to it, you had a mission and knew what had to be done. Not to underestimate your enemies. 4 was motivating, you knew everything you lost and it wasn't coming back but you were going to fight, fight until you no longer could. 3: More on Business and syndicate. Felt like building an army and needed a general. Reboot: wtf was that sht? No bass on the guy voice, no charisma, you had to convince eli to joined and in all other series they were there because they wanted to be there. Worse they try to be funny but it was absolutely trash and not humorous in any way. This sounds like group friend road trip then a Mission. Voice acting took huge loss comparing reboot to the rest.
I noticed that "It's our time now" speech is not made in the beginning in the SRTT and SRIV unlike other previous games. Player makes this speech to avenge someone after they recuit important lieutenants. And in Reboot, it would be cool if the player did made their speech to new recuits instead of their friends.
I've only played 4 and the reboot, a bit of 3 but haven't gotten on that as much. I think people tend to overreact about the new one, it's OK but not great either. But damn, the differences in those speeches just shows how out of touch the devs were. You got these amazing calls to action, these showcases of leadership and integrity, and then when we get to 2022 it's all thrown away to be replaced by some stupid "OH we gotta be crime lords now" shit. Does no justice to the ogs.
That last game isn't a 'reboot' it's an abomination. It isn't 'canon' the same way the crappy Disney Star Wars films aren't 'canon' at all. They're only cashing in on a name we all know while they destroy everything it represents. It is PAINFUL LISTENING TO THEIR CHARACTERS. To be fair, the old school saints didn’t form to be a gang, they were neighborhood watch that ended up being a gang to survive. The new saints didn’t wanna form a gang but they did to survive.

I love speech in The Third. Can feel the incoming tension while scenes switches between Boss and Bain and that rise up with guns was so great. Reboot one is... Fine? I guess? Not as charismatic as the rest but can pass
I realize we took the voice acting for granted in past games, especially for Playa’s voice. The delivery just wasn’t there. Kenn Michael nailed it every time though.

@Accident Lol one of the female boss voices (don't remember which one) is one of the worst voices I've ever heard in a game, the extremely forced voice tone and the obviously fake accent are just terrible and cringe worthy.

Carlos Mendoza, Aisha, Lin, Troy Bradshaw, Johnny Gat, Shaundi, Pierce Washington, Madam Vicki, Ralph, Deborah, Tobias, Laura. All of these memorable beloved main & side characters with lovable personality in 2006 Saints Row & Saints Row 2 erased from existence because Volition clowns want to be Twitter clout chasing Chicken Boo from Animaniacs.
Anyway, if you complete the story arc of the Brotherhood in Saints Row 2 one of the Saints NPC will console your original customizable protagonist after avenging the death of Carlos Mendoza which I'm sure had some of us crying because he was that ideal best friend to which the the game would have a safe our anger until the time is right to give The Brotherhood hell for killing our original customizable protagonist's bestie.
William Sharp died in the most satisfying way for a fictional antagonist in a video game, the power of karma he took the life of Lin therefore our original customizable protagonist takes his life.
I still hate Donnie in 2006 Saints Row & Saints Row 2, that unlikable pansy of a character you can't stand seeing around running with the Westside Rollerz & The Brotherhood.

Would have loved to got a remaster of Saints Row 1, a more up to date cinematic version would have been great.

I feel like the reboot one could have been something special. The whole idea of 'we're good at what we do, let’s start our own gang' theme it had was pretty good, it just fell flat. Set it later when there isnt a guy getting stitched up, and drop the jokes and the one guy's hesitation, and it could have actually been something. As it is though, its just kind dumb.

Every time I hear the new one, I actially get pretty mad. Like, everything else about the reboot leaves me disapointed, but hearing that poser of a boss say, "It's our time now," actually sets me off. That little joke has no right right to say it; they haven't earned it.

Before the reboot, saints row had some element of emotion. They wanted to reboot the series. How are you going to do that with 15 years of nostalgia. They literally copy and pasted what made SR special and put it on to characters we have no sympathy for.
Keith David has this natural gravitas.

1 and 2 had street like speech to it, you had a mission and knew what had to be done. Not to underestimate your enemies.
4 was motivating, you knew everything you lost and it wasn't coming back but you were going to fight, fight until you no longer could.
3: More on Business and syndicate. Felt like building an army and needed a general.

I noticed that "It's our time now" speech is not made in the beginning in the SRTT and SRIV unlike other previous games.
Player makes this speech to avenge someone after they recuit important lieutenants.
And in Reboot, it would be cool if the player did made their speech to new recuits instead of their friends.

I've only played 4 and the reboot, a bit of 3 but haven't gotten on that as much. I think people tend to overreact about the new one, it's OK but not great either. But damn, the differences in those speeches just shows how out of touch the devs were. You got these amazing calls to action, these showcases of leadership and integrity, and then when we get to 2022 it's all thrown away to be replaced by some stupid "OH we gotta be crime lords now" shit. Does no justice to the ogs.

If Volition is so intent on hiring shitty writers, then they should fucking hire a real fan like any of the OG's. Hell, I'm not much a writer, but I coulda fuckin done this shit and while it probably wouldn't be anything too remarkable or amazing, it'd still be far better than Shit's Row 22.
