  • Throwing / Making a Big Pottery Bowl on the Wheel.
    This is as big as I can make this type of pot on my wheel as it is just too fast at it's slowest speed, and to try anything any wider would mean the clay going out of control.

    Every time you say that you wish you had a slower wheel, I wish we weren't so far apart, you'd be more than welcome to use my old wheel, someone made it homemade, it's so very strong, not fast at all and rather than an accelerator lever it has a clutch break to slow it down further. I love your videos so much! Surprised my pottery professor with some things that I learned from you and your dad. Such as a bowl like this, although a bit smaller, with chattering on the outside, slip decorated on the inside, glazed it in a semi transparent celadon, came out a lovely sage green. Thank you!

    You should try to make something on one of those cheap kids pottery wheels! It would be pretty funny

    You're a talented fellow Dan! I've been following your Allotment Diary channel for about a year and learned heaps - especially about container grown potatoes - but this is something else!!! Great stuff :-D

    That would make a nice salad bowl or a bowl for crisps. It is harder than it looks to make that wide geometrical bowl. I would love to see your glazing methods. Also if you add designs with paint before glazing.

      I think I remember him saying his glazing methods aren't worth showing. He's just being humble. If you go back on his channel, I believe he has a few videos showing how he decorates them.

    Wow that is impressive, I didn't realise you were a potter I have been following your other channel. I have a kick wheel which is really hard to throw large stuff I ended up having to make the clay really soft first. Your shop looks fantastic, well done 😎🌱

      I don't think you'll get enough momentum on a kick wheel for big stuff.
      Electricity helps a great deal ;)
      Thanks.

    How do you center so easily? Is it just something that takes practice or what, because I find it literally so hard to center my pieces. I do this in class and half the hr. is literally spent trying to center it. Any tips?

    • @IngletonPottery
      @IngletonPottery  7 лет назад +5

      All I can say is that when you feel the clay is centred then release your hands very slowly.
      If you release the pressure quickly it can spring back outa center.
      Thanks.
