I just clicked on "Play all" and have been watching all your [most of them] videos, love the 25lb bowl Matt; quite a challenge I would think. it turned out beautiful and still on center after all the throwing, well done.

I apologize, somehow I missed your comment. I will get a pic and send it. I made those bowls as part of my journeyman work for another potter. They make and finish some beautiful work. Ray Pottery is their name. I believe their site is paulandsheilaray.com if I'm not mistaken. Thanks for watching. Cheers!

Thank you very much. I've made quite a few of those. I make those as part of my journeyman potter work that I still do. So those are not mine but still great practice to make them.

I’ve never opened with the heal of my hand. I’ll have to try it.

I do it all the time on larger pieces that are wide and/or wide pieces with a flat bottom. It works wonders and that’s a flatter stronger part of your hand.

This is incredible. Would be great to see the piece after glazing and firing though.

What clay mixture are you using? How much did each ball of clay weigh? Great Video!

What wheel did you make this on?

that is ridiculous. Explain to me what is stopping that bowl from flopping. I have never thrown anything that wide and low without it going over... you didn't even torch it!

Those platters are made with stiffer clay than normal but not extremely stiff clay. There is enough structural integrity in the piece from the walls being straight even though they are slanted quite a bit. The same bowl with a curved wall would be much more difficult to keep standing without torching or using extremely stiff clay. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

I guess the ribbing is giving it the strength "not to flop" Matthew?
