@Angel Ian thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im trying it out atm. I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Hello! I'm struggling with opening larger amounts of clay consistently. I tend to lose the center as I open. When you're opening, how are your hands positioned? How does your right hand help the left open?
what is the recommended consistency of clay when throwing? Is it better to throw with the consistency of clay when it is straight out of the bag, or should I make it a little on the soft side? Because I have trouble throwing with clay straight out of the bag because it easily gets off centered when I'm opening and stretching a centered piece of clay
You have to wedge new clay a lot to get rid of any twisting memory left by the pug mill. Before that though it's a good idea to slam a new block on all sides to soften it up a little first. If it's too hard to wedge then definitely is too hard to throw. On the flip side, too soft and you can't center as easily or maintain center, or pull walls up centered. But there is a range in between too hard and too soft that you can make use of when throwing. For example, clay that is firm but not too firm is good for throwing bowls. Softer clay helps to make plates so you can more easily spread it out across the bat. There isn't much of a recommendation anyone can give you about what's best because it all depends on your personal preference when throwing. Some people can muscle hard clay and like it that way. Master Lin uses a mix of 2 kinds of porcelain. Every lump you see him put down on the wheel has been spiral wedged, you can tell by its shape. He's not going to use any straight out of the bag. That could be what was giving you trouble before.
Please redo. This video with more information on how you pull and shape your large bowl s. This is not a criticism, it’s just that I need more information about how you do the wonderful artistry that you create
Throwing a bowl of this size an elegance is an honor to witness.
He's an amazing guy! He has an uncanny ability to center the clay!
Incredible demo, thank you, sir.
You are amazing. I wish I lived closer to you so I could take some classes. You make it look so effortless. A true master of this craft.
Thank you for all of your valuable lessons!
I wish you would show us you taking it off the wheel too!
Very nice and a great instructional video. Thank you again and I'll try and make it to the show.

wow awesome skills ty
Where do you order those metal trimming and chattering tools? I love the way you make them work. Keep those videos coming.
I believe in one of the videos he said he made them himself. Some were old hacksaw blades, and some were sheet steel.
Can you show the trimming of the foot? Such a wide bowl -- how many foot rings?
Is there a possibility at all to get those beautiful glaze recopies i have been looking for a red like that for so long and i can not find it
nice bowl thanks for sharing!
Do you cover large bowl to dry slowly? I find when I throw a large wide bowl, the sides will come up if I dry it too quickly.

how is porcelain to work with? im taking lessons and im only using low/mid grog clays
It's not as hard as prople say. If you take it slow and aren't too rough you'll be fine just when u finish something let it dry slow
i love you so much
Thanks
