I use to go their and grab some bagels right from the owen , go home and eat it with some cheese some mediterenian olive and olive oil with dark tea beside , during cold winter nights in Montreal in 1990 s damn was so good good
St-Viateur is amazing! It was great to see how the bagels are made. They are soooooo delish! Whenever in Montreal, we always stop by for a bite and bring some home. Yum!
This video makes me want to try Montreal bagels. Like the different looks and style of those bagels. When I visit Montreal, I'll definitely have some Montreal bagels.
Montréal bagels are by far the BEST!!! The sesame bagels have a roasted toasted nutty flavor that is absolutely unreal! They are SOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD! Mmmmmmmmmmm...
Live in Montreal, ate Fairmount bagels all my life... My best friend's mom flew in from NYC recently and brought NY bagels... I honestly thought they were supermarket bagels...
I've lived in Montreal all my life and I've never had a New York bagel, but I expect that if I went to the best bagel place in New York, they would also be very good.
I grew up in the Mile-End and went to the YMCA near St-Viateur Bagel. As a child, if I was hungry and had no money i knew i could go get a bagel at St-Viateur Bagel for free. They were so nice to us. Now that i dont live there any more, i get my St-Viateur bagel fix from the grocery store in the city I live in.
No comparison, NYC bagels come off a conveyor belt from a machine. Montreal bagels are made by hand, every one of them. Montreal bagels dipped in boiling honey water to give that shiny glaze, are baked in a wood oven, and sold warm 24/7. Like the difference between a frozen pizza or a pizza made fresh from a wood oven.
@@DamienAshorTV I’m happy for you.😊 I’ve been in the US for 16 yrs; after the first few years of crying about how much I missed Montreal, I finally settled down and began to appreciate some of the positive aspects of living here. But, I do still miss many things about my beautiful home city, not the least of which are the BEST bagels in the world!!😍 As the token ambassador for Canada, especially Montreal, here in Mid-Missouri, I make sure that Americans learn about what makes Montreal one of the best cosmopolitan cities to visit in the world! There’s a joie-de-vivre vibe that is unique to our fair city and its residents. Enjoy rediscovering Montreal, Damien, and think about this homesick Canuck south of the border from time to time!☺️ A bientôt!👋🇨🇦
Hot onion bagels with a little bit of butter drizzled on every bite! The last bit was the best - the lady from Washington DC had 4000 lbs of them shipped. Wow!
Hey guys! Found you on DownieLive's channel. Your editing is sick! I'm super impressed by your storyline, love seeing channels helping to put our city on the map. When's your next video out? A bit on me, I'm Will (I'm from Montreal!) & I make Canadian travel and personal growth videos. Hope you have an awesome day and you are awesome, keep being you! 😁☝🏻
Fairmont bagels are amazing fresh or the next day. Saint Viateur bagels are less "wow" when fresh, but they keep their texture longer. Sometimes when I am in Montréal, I buy from both shops!
New York bagels are "cookie cutter bagels" made by machine and developed to break a strike. Montreal bagels are a piece of art. I have a slight preference for Fairmount but eat more St. Viateur since they have a branch bakery on the west island where I live. Had one today - grilled on a cast iron skillet rather than toasted. Next to munching a hot one hot from the oven, hard to beat.
I've always been team St-Viateur until one day I decided to do a blind test and I picked Fairmount, which to this day pisses me off. All kidding aside, they're both great and even though I only live about 10 min by bike from them, I don't go there as often as I should but just the fact that if I have a craving I know I can go easily, is enough for me to say I'll never live anywhere else.
WHEN FOLLOWING THOSE ORIGINAL RECIPES JUST AS REAL MONTREAL DOES WITH ITS SMOKED MEAT, NOTHING IS BETTER. I BELIEVE WHENEVER A FRANCHISE IS OFFERED, MANY FRANCHISES (IN ORDER TO MAXIMIZE PROFITS) SKIP ESSENTIAL STEPS. I BELIEVE THIS IS THE DIFFERENCE!
No Montrealer buys the 'flavoured' bagels; you order white (sesame) or black (poppyseed). Period. You also only order enough to eat within two hours. Any more go in the freezer for toasting later :)
A NY bagel can only compete with a Montreal supermarket bagel at best , nowhere near the quality and taste of our 2 main institutions, St.Viateur & Fairmont bagel
Pretty predictable that New Yorkers prefer their own bagels, and Montreal residents cheer theirs. No one 'wins', what an absurd idea. I don't like the whole premise of this video. Vive la difference.
I'm obsessed with Montreal's bagel culture! Thanks for sharing. Anthony Bourdain's "Damn you, Montreal!" is the most divine feeling and video wrap-up.
Thank you for saying that ❤️

I must say they are really good. Lox and cream cheese, some capers and some dill. Just lovely.
@Coconut Lady I know!

Oh ya...if you want NYC style bagels baked fresh daily, go to Costco. They make them from boxes of frozen par baked bagels every morning.
I would hands down say Montreal is the best for bagels I am from there and Fairmont bagels is my favorite. From Bree Christie in Canada
You guys can have bagels, I'm going over next door to Wilensky's for a Special and a cherry cola !
I am homesick and miss my Montreal bagels!!!😩 Would someone please ship a dozen sesame seed bagels to me in Missouri??😁❤️
I just moved back from the US. I missed home too much, I love it here.

I think they can ship them to you
And they taste ten times better when toasted and buttered!
Literally Heaven on Earth🤤

When the covid will be over, St-Viateur and Fairmount should get together and make a mix chain of bagels to celebrate.

Zuckers on Chambers St, also Lexington Av - Muarry hill, are handmade and delicius
Thank you for including me!
Love your videos Brian! Hope you and your family are doing well, come back and visit us as soon as it’s safe and possible!
I want to try Montreal bagel with Montreal smoked beef, and mustard with a side of poutine.
St. Viateur!
Fairmount.
Fairmount hands down, no contest. They also last longer on the shelf

Verdun's St Lo is so good too
I miss them so much 😭.
I love NY bagels especially Pick-a-bagel in Manhattan, so i couldn't imagine any cities bagels being any better....We'll see when i go to Montreal....
You’ll be pleasantly surprised 😘 make sure to ask for a hot sesame one fresh from the oven!

All my Jewish Canadian brothers and sisters in Montreal!
That is what makes them great!!
Fairmount but St Viateur is so good too
Fairmount is my preference
yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!! liberty cream cheese all the way haha
❤️❤️❤️
Je veux mange la bagel de fairmount tard
Just sucks that Liberté cream cheese no longer exist
👌
Fairmount is the best

Speak for yourself😛 All dressed are incredibly popular! And the Rosemary sea salt bagel at Saint-Viateur might be my all time favourite!
St. Viateur!!!
Does Canada do it better? Eh!
Discover Montréal being shady in the title
The truth hurts ❤️

You shouldn't tell anyone. ( ex montrealer )
1:56 Hot!
I didn't find Montreal's bagels special. They are just a bagel. I can get better ones in Ontario.
Suuuuuure 👍
Puh-leeze!
There's nothing great about them.
Montreal bagels better than NY bagels? Uh, no.
Uh yes.
You need to lite up a cigarette after eating one of Montreal's bagels.
