Hello, Deborah and thank you for sharing your insights on presentations. I appreciate your professionalism, conciseness and candor. Public speaking is something I really enjoy and desire to do it with excellence; your video is very helpful in beginning my journey. Thank you again!
Here from English presentation class, we are using 4 of your videos for my class at Yale. You must be quite extraordinary to reach this many people view-wise
I truly enjoyed these wonderful tips and practice points that were shared with their readers. Each tutorial added to the others a piece of the presentation just as a finger serves a hand causing the hand to serve the wrist and on and on. I viewed enthusiastically these fine tutorials on successful use of speaking methodologies when speaking to a public audience and learned in the process I have been a criminal defense lawyer for 43 years; an ordained minister with my Master of Divinity; an adjunct professor of philosophy; PhD In pastoral psychology; an author; a presenter on law and Ethics/Civility to thousands of lawyers all over the U S. to satisfy 4 credit hours to comply with their state's CLE requirements; speak two languages; 45 years of athletics including rugby; tv/movie personality; etc I have the experience to say this: if you can't be at one with your audience and cause them to feel better about themselves ; to feel their joy and sorrows; to create that ontological moment to be remembered forever; to empathize; then you have lost a point in your presentation. It truly takes a lifetime for most people to love their audiences - truly so May The Lord continue to hold each of you in His favor. I, getting tired and must rest
I'm watching all of your videos, one day I'm gonna change the world, it doesn't matter if it's for the better or for the worse. When I speak the whole world will tremble and all my actions will make it crumble.
its very helpful to me.... tomorrow i have my speech competition and i am well prepared for it thnkyou vry much ........!!!!!! thnks once again now i am not feeling nervous and i am fully confident that i will win the competition........
Hey people!!! Do not put bad comments, that this is boring or bad. This is an example, what not to do! She "teaches viewers how to create terrific openings and closings to presentations." ... :)
Deborah, known be goodness with you I'm From Somaliland your videos made me professional trainer of Deborah it's amazing that's a great help ,thanks you so much for the tips
Agree it can be very easy to lose your audience. Sometimes if you haven't captivated your audience in the first 30 seconds then it can be an uphill struggle. It is about being confident to be yourself and speak to your audience with impact.
I have listed to this presentation over and over. I would have liked more specifics on opening and closing for a dissertation defense. I hope I can emulate your exceptional ways--just hope tomorrow my defense will reflect your passion.
She said that so you are aware that she has knowledge on the subject, a good presenter lets the audience know why what they are talking about is worth their time.
Thiago, that's exactly what she should do. She is teaching people about presentations skills so I think it's totally appropriate to establish her credentials and experiences - even those from from an early age. If you had listened to the section immediately after the opening you would have heard her explain that the technique she used was 'story telling' whereby she shared her credentials in a story as opposed to simply stating them. I think she is highly credible and skilled speaker.
Even if I don´t like the tone of your voice, you catched me with your kind of presentation, your gestures und your posture. Amazing, I´ll try to copy some of these.. Thanks
I can't belive the silly stupid comments on here. I thought it was one of the BEST videos on the subject. I'm glad I did not read any comments before viewing. I agree with you. Most presenters know it can be difficult and even frighting to go up on stage and do this. This iis one of those reasons....stupid people!
Thanks Deborah, this was a good, basic message that hit on many of the important points of introductions and conclusions. I am going to share this with my classes and am sure that they will be able to use many of the techniques. Everything is not relevant to the presentations they will be delivering but I will cover those, (this doesn't make the entire message irrelevant, however.) I have read through the comments and have to say for those who have the attention span of a flea, are just ready to criticize without thinking, and think they know best, guess what? They don't.
A perfect presentation about how to deliver a perfect presentation! Thank you very much for explaining and illustrating the art of preparing and giving a great presentation. It is not only informative but also captivating.
Well I'm going to a really big law suit case and I want to be as deliberate and firm because nothing seems to change and I need to make a powerful and positive message so many can look at the facts and its available for people to do some research for themselves thanks to the readers
I'm at my first 30 seconds but, what I've learned from my short experience is that: people don't care about the position of someone when he/she starts the speech, but that person is interest about why that speaker is there. Is the speaker skilful ? I would create a bridge rather than putting on myself the label of "look I'm the expert here" in the first seconds of my speech. Always in the audience will be people better than you and the opposite.
such a great tips. I am scheduled to give a destination presentation infront of 100 pax, not in my native language but in French. I know that I am lack in this language and I want to be the best in delivering my speech. Thank you.
Hi doctor, i'm a Phd. student, i'll defend my thesis in the few coming months, i really hope benefited some of your advices for the defense day, how to start, how to manage my stress... help plz :)
Thanks for sharing us your knowledge Its one of the best videos. But what should i do if my presentation is just for ten minutes?how many slides are reasonable to put?how can arrange the time for introduction main body and the end by minutes?
Machine generated gestures. Robotic, mechanical and almost predictable. Notice the pointed finger as in "You've been a very naughty little boy or girl!" For me, the visual and aural side is not attractive; however the content is quite good.
Why on Earth is the comment section so obsessed with criticizing this woman's presentation? Maybe it's because they're threatened by her credentials and experience and want to bring her down to their level so they don't have to listen to her great advice. Maybe it's because they're insecure about their own speech-giving skills and thus feel the need to berate her skills so that they'll feel better about their own. Either way, shut up and learn from the video. If you're going to comment, maybe add some useful insight on other good ways to introduce or conclude a speech, instead of adding to the irritating criticisms of her speech.

Hi Deborah, great introduction, and I find your voice fine. However , over here in Asia, Asian presenters (particularly those who are Chinese), are expected to appear humble, friendly, and not-too-forward to the audience. I find this is _especially_ true for women. Would love to know others' views.
i have been so much inspred by your presentation and has considered taking a masters degree in Executive communications.please email me on how i can undergo the whole process.I am from zimbabwe

she's great, she proved herself in the presentation itself.

+William Glisson Omfg my eyes. The way you make spaces before each paragraph is really weird and irritating.
chemistrygeek15 Yeah but not in a RUclips comment.

Agree it can be very easy to lose your audience. Sometimes if you haven't captivated your audience in the first 30 seconds then it can be an uphill struggle. It is about being confident to be yourself and speak to your audience with impact.
trained hundreds of thousands of speakers, simply not possible!
I have listed to this presentation over and over. I would have liked more specifics on opening and closing for a dissertation defense. I hope I can emulate your exceptional ways--just hope tomorrow my defense will reflect your passion.
number one tip: Never start a speech bragging that you were a high school champion....
She said that so you are aware that she has knowledge on the subject, a good presenter lets the audience know why what they are talking about is worth their time.
Thiago, that's exactly what she should do. She is teaching people about presentations skills so I think it's totally appropriate to establish her credentials and experiences - even those from from an early age. ha ha
Why not? Don't be so bitter.
she's alright :)
funny since I was lost before the .50 second mark. she brought me back at 1:10 tho. I wonder why she didn't start like that...
You start with a bang and you end with a bang. Bang, bang. That resonates with your audience.
Even if I don´t like the tone of your voice, you catched me with your kind of presentation, your gestures und your posture. Amazing, I´ll try to copy some of these.. Thanks
guys, don't judge, everyone has the same right to upload their video on youtube

True that tho!
and we also have the right to criticize the video itself..
LMFAO FUCK YES BITCH

I am glad I watched this video before my presentation day. Very useful and up to the point.Thank you so much.
Nicely done - yes so many speakers start with a boring opening. You state it well.
A perfect presentation about how to deliver a perfect presentation! Thank you very much for explaining and illustrating the art of preparing and giving a great presentation. It is not only informative but also captivating.

Hi Deborah, thank you for sharing.
Good tips that I will certainly try to practice during my next speeches.
he adriana
Gre at ‘Platform Presence’ and though a fast delivery, it’s succinct and well delivered.
Thank you so much!! I was struggling to create an opening to my presentation and this gave me some new ideas on how to start it! :)
Deborah- I understand the essence of the close, but is there a video where you give an example of a strong close? TY!
hi ,i'm from Cambodia,Angkor wat, when i listen your tips it's amazing that's a great help ,thanks you very much for the tips
I love your home town, visited back in 2005.
She gives wonderful suggestions on how to set the tone- great job!
the contents are very informative. I don't care if it's scripted.
Well I'm going to a really big law suit case and I want to be as deliberate and firm because nothing seems to change and I need to make a powerful and positive message so many can look at the facts and its available for people to do some research for themselves thanks to the readers
Great stuff! You know exactly what to do with your hands and body movement tone and all CHEERS!
Great, Simple,Straightforward and Effective

Hello Deborah , your material is excellent and I am using as a paramater for years
such a great tips. I am scheduled to give a destination presentation infront of 100 pax, not in my native language but in French. I know that I am lack in this language and I want to be the best in delivering my speech. Thank you.
Sorry but whilst useful I would need to make notes to remember because it presented like you were reading a textbook, make a joke, be a bit human.
I do thank you so much for this video I pray 🙏 for you to get more knowledge and give you good health
I like it and the stomach growl at 3:11, mike up, or a bagel at 7:00 AM may help!
I heard the growl too aha
Thank you. Wrap up mesage was particularly impressive
Thank you very much for the speaking tips! You're right...I always forget the call to action at the end of a presentation. All the BEST to you.
You're totally right: you have less than 30 seconds to convince your audience to listen to you; so you've got to start with a bang.
Thank you for your tips, it is very helpful to have some tips for oral presentations
Hi doctor, i'm a Phd. student, i'll defend my thesis in the few coming months, i really hope benefited some of your advices for the defense day, how to start, how to manage my stress... help plz :)

Thank U so much. That clear enough.
Enrich my knowledge.
this was great, except the first part where you talk about your high school accomplishment.
lol i guess she was using her technique
i also luv her gestures they are amazing
??? She looks like a robot!
Machine generated gestures. Robotic, mechanical and almost predictable.
Notice the pointed finger as in "You've been a very naughty little boy or girl!"
For me, the visual and aural side is not attractive; however the content is quite good.

great introduction and speak fluency. i like your presentation
Nicely done... From start to finish...thanks
She is great, i love your tutorials, thanks
I couldn't listen to your speech even for one minute.
Hi Deborah, great introduction, and I find your voice fine. However , over here in Asia, Asian presenters (particularly those who are Chinese), are expected to appear humble, friendly, and not-too-forward to the audience. I find this is _especially_ true for women. Would love to know others' views.
Thanks for your great introduction, it's taught me a lot.
Good insight. Thank you.
Hi
any suggestion on which general lines one should conclude a presentation?
Thank you this was informative and helped me!
Good advice. I'll just have to hold the audience's attention until then. Some flattery should do the trick; think you can spare some?
I guess many in the comments, were looking for a last minute Cliff notes before their own speech, instead of an actual introduction to how and why.😐
Great comments and advice.Thank you,Ed
I'M POSITIVELY IMPRESSED
Hi, I want to know how to defend my self on an Interview about Power point Presentation ? Thanks
