i’m honestly surprised to hear that there’s no real consensus on the city tracks because in my experience people tend to say that singapore speedway is the best city track while vancouver velocity has the best music
Even the music doesn't seem to have that much of a consensus, a lot of people didn't initially like the remake of Vancouver Velocity that much, though I guess that could've changed since wave 5
@@jomaq9233no, not exactly. The actual place you drive through is interesting in Singapore speedway whereas nearly all other cities are just plain road
@@DuskPustules The driving lines on Singapore are pretty simple though. Many long straight sections / long slow turns. It’s not a super simple track but I’d say in that sense NY is more complex (tighter turns in close proximity and low traction making precise lines difficult)
Biggest problem with cities like London Tokyo Paris or NY is that they barely got into inside places like they did later on Madrid with the Stadium or Sidney.
I love how the city tracks are implemented into 8DX as the BCP is basically just a console port of Tour with the route changing on each lap being its gimmick however there is a consensus fans do have on the city tracks and that’s the over abundance of European cities as they take up half of the slots and seeing what regions got represented fans were mostly disappointed that South America & Africa got no representation in Tour despite fans clamoring for a city track based in Rio & Cairo especially the latter as there was key art for Tour suggesting a desert based city track with pyramids that never happened
While the number of European cities is a bit much, I think the bigger offender is somehow getting TWO U.S. cities, like come on Nintendo L.A. is not more deserving of representation than entire continents
I agree with what they say. The city tracks are possibly some of my favorite courses in the game. but, I can understand how the average person and feels stagnant for them.
AHH I’m so happy to finally see a comment section that’s actually giving appreciation to the city courses 😆 I really like them! It makes me sad to see them get bashed so much lol
Whilst Tour never was my favourite game in the series, I absolutely loved the city courses and was really excited when the BCP announced they’d be coming to 8DX with courses like Berlin, Madrid, and Singapore being some of my favourites
Im glad to see a video of the city tracks. I feel the city tracks are needlessly over hated but i admit that towards the end of the bcp i did get a bit tired of them but that is probably because Nintendo wanted to preserve these tracks. I actually find the alternating variation approach quite interesting and a fresh new take on mario kart track design. To me these remind me of when the section based tracks in mk7 were introduced. At the time many people i knew hated this approach simply because it was different to what they were used to but nowadays, many fan favorites are section based such as mount wario, big blue and 3ds rainbow road. I reckon in time people will appreciate this style of track design more and i hope they dont abandon this approach. I also personally adore the idea of real life locations used as set pieces for mario kart tracks. As a Sydneysider i was blown away by how accurate sydney sprint was to the source material. And it also got me more into geography. Overall the city tracks were a nice addition even if they got repetitive towards the 2nd half of the BCP. They weren't perfect and a few were even kinda meh but i think they offered some cool new ideas and design approaches. Hot take, i find it weird people hate on the city tracks but obsess over delfino square which i find massively overrated but feels very similar to many city tracks lol. My city track rank: 1. Singapore 2. Sydney 3. Madrid 4. Vancouver 5. Berlin 6. Athens 7. Los Angeles 8. Rome 9. Bangkok 10. Amsterdam 11. London 12. Paris 13. New York 14. Tokyo
One rumor of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was there was going to be a Moscow Course as MOB M. Data miners even saw an image Of St Basil's Cathederal but due to outside events it was scrapped. but it could appear in Mario Kart X in some capacity if it came good again.
Here's my review of every City Track in one word: Paris: Mid Tokyo: Snoozefest New York: Meh Sydney: Amazing London: Boring Berlin: Underrated Amsterdam: Wet Bangkok: Great Singapore: Masterpiece Athens: Ugly Los Angeles: Whatever Vancouver: Overrated Rome: Tricky Madrid: Spectacular
I was skeptical on the cities after Wave 1, since Paris and Tokyo do feel overscaled despite the latter being extremely short but Wave 2 completely sold me on them. I loved New York Minute and Sydney Sprint, and ever since then they've been the highlights of every single wave for me and in fact, aside from Tokyo, literally all of them are A tier tracks or higher for me. First off, I think basing tracks on real life locations is so awesome, seeing real life landmarks in Mario Kart and vice versa is extremely cool and gives me an interest in visiting the cites in real life. Especially the Gardens by the Bay in Singapore- I already wanted to go there but finding out that absolutely gorgeous landmark existed through Mario Kart is so awesome. Secondly, I honestly really like the city-track visuals almost all of the time. It's no worse then the BCP standard with some exceptions in the wave 1 ones and Athens, I think the atmosphere and overall feel of them is so nice. Plus, I really don't see the "too similar" debates as I feel every single one of them has a completely different vibe and is hard to mistake for eachother, with the exception of maybe Berlin blending in a bit. Thirdly, I just think the tracks are dang fun, mostly due to lap changing. It's such a cool mechanic that adds so, so much to the tracks- I wouldn't adore them as much as I do if not for that. I think it's exactly the same as single lap tracks, and I feel the fact people praise that mechanic to death whereas the lap changing rarely gets that praise anymore feels like a double standard to me. The only issue with it I feel is the exceution with the red arrows- I think they look good but in practice they seem misplaced a lot of the time. In some cases, especially on the Wave 3 ones, just don't appear in time for you to react to them. If they were clearer and appeared sooner I think it's be less confusing but eh. Plus, the tracks are just all really fun for me. Kinda hard to say why I feel that way but all of them except Tokyo are just so fun and I tend to gravitate towards me. So, yeah, I adore these tracks and I'm so glad all of them are in 8. I don't think they're oversaturated since they're unique enough from eachother and they're just much more interesting to me. They're the highlights of every non-wave 1 wave for me and honestly I wish there were more of them and they add new ones to future games, though I dunno how likely that is. Like, there's so much more potential for other cities. Also the music on almost all of them is just fantastic, the Tour soundtrack had no right to be so good and 8DX made most of them even better or in Tokyo's case, turned a mid song into one of my favourites in the series.
Hey! Just wanted to say that I loved this video, I think you did a good examination of the Tour city courses. I’d love to see that other video of the city tracks too!
While I don't deny that half of the city tracks could be Thanos'd from the BCP and not many would particularly care, I don't particularly mind that we got all of them in the BCP considering the circumstances of their origin game (mobile game with touch controls that swaps its course selection every 2 weeks). To me it's a fine way to get all of them "preserved" somehow even if that might not've been their goal(RIP Pipeline). Besides the BCP pretty much covered most of the fan favorites that they could pick from Tour. The only real snub is Airship Fortress
Tokyo Blur is the only city track thats mediocre The rest are cool With Vancouver, Rome, Singapore, Athens, & Berlin being the ones that standout the most
I have a GREAT solution for the City tracks that can be applied to all of them: Just add stuff where there’s nothing going on. I don’t care if it’s boost panels, or 2 sets of the many Mario enemies out there (Koopas, Goombas, Piranha Plants, etc.), all I care is that they add at least SOMETHING to anywhere that has nothing in it!!
I'm pretty sure there's not a single track in the Mario Kart series that actually has Koopa Troopas as obstacles, so it would've been a nice introduction
Personally, I enjoyed nearly all of the city tracks. I think Vancouver and the slightly butchered Bangkok (which was really good in Tour). The tracks have a degree of variety and I can’t lie that ones like Berlin, Sydney and Singapore were all amazing.
i didn’t really play the game during the time the booster course pass was coming out, so i’m just getting back into the game. because of this, i was initially overwhelmed by the sheer volume of these tracks and they honestly kind of blended together. but the more i’ve played them, the more that many of them have truly grown on me. singapore, madrid, and athens have all become personal favorites! it just took a while to get used to just how many of these relatively similar, unfamiliar tracks there were.
I feel like the main thing that causes debate about the cities is that they all were included regardless of quality, while majority of the other tracks were picked meticulously. Every single mario kart game has tracks that vary in quality. Every game has its circuits, some are uninteresting like cheep cheep lagoon being relatively uneventful, etc. but other than the BCPs circuits (which many still enjoy other than like, toad circuit) the BCPs track selection was made having fan favorites (every Wii), radically changed remakes in it (SNES BC3), or just solid tracks. But the cities are an exception. Since they are all getting in, its inevitable that one will be as boring as figure 8 circuit. And there will be another that is as great as Waluigi stadium. The cities quality vary as much as any randomly selected track from the series is. And that is natural. Cities shouldn’t be treated like some foreign and different concept that for some reason should be handled or ranked differently from any other track. Some a better, some are worse. Some Wii tracks are better, some wii tracks are worse. Some look more unique, some look less unique. Some 3DS tracks look unique, and others are toad circuit. It’s all mario kart. But when paired with the overwhelmingly good side of mario kart they look comparatively worse when they measure up the same as anything else. Oh yeah I guess there are also the people who don’t like them because they are from the gross non-mainly gatcha mobile game. Which to that I say: Nintendos website says that mario RUN is mainline to the super mario series. Nothing stop tour, even if it feels weird, so suck it up. I hate gatcha too (though its improved a lot, no more paid lootboxes!), but that never stopped overwatch 2 from being overwatch 1s sequel.
I feel like the city tracks could have used better routing, but that is not saying that I don't enjoy their inclusion. It is a way to preserve the courses from Tour and while your Pipeline argument is fair, it will probably come in the next Mario Kart game on the next thing or as DLC to the next Mario Kart game. I like a lot of the music in these city tracks and if it could use more touch ups like texturing and different models then yes, the city tracks walk together hand in hand with the other tracks in this series.
My personal thoughts are that the city tracks are mostly just that. Cities from the real world. Most of the time that just doesn't make for a great or interesting track because we're just travelling through the city. And there are nice things about cities but they just don't compare to the out there ideas Mario Kart usually has. Plus the "change route every lap" gimmick doesn't help them in memorability since I'm never on the same route and it's not like said alternate routes are that appealing. Sometimes they just feel like checklists for landmarks in that place. The best city courses to me are the ones that have you doing the most things and not resorting to just driving on road for a good chunk of time. Singapore Speedway is like a massive party with many different cool set pieces. Athens barely takes place in the city. I even have to give props to LA for having a neat oil works section. I've seen people say that it's weird that it's showing a not so flattering part of the city but I honestly could not care less as long as it's doing anything somewhat engaging. Also, kinda sucks that most of them just take place in the northern part of the world with I belive more than half coming from Europe alone. In general, I'm very neutral on the city tracks. A couple I really like and really don't but most of them are "just okay" or elicit no strong feelings and I feel like that's almost as bad as most of them being bad.
My opinion on the city tracks is that they're sorely missing their signature costumes and kart parts that were introduced with them. Whats new york minute without the taxi? what's singapore speedway without the roaring racer and vacation luigi? etc.
I absolutely love this video! Its really well made and ive always loved the city tracks but im gine if others dont like them asl9kg as its for a reasonable reason. I also must say this comment section is amazing! Evreyone is so positive and its great seeing others who enjoy these tracks as much of me
I can understand the hate towards the city courses, but when they’re hated to the point of people outright wishing they were replaced is something completely different. Everyone who wants them replaced doesn’t seem to realise that, it’s because of the city courses that we even have the BCP in the first place. If you replace the cities, then there’s no point even making the BCP. It’s just stupid. The.p Booster Course Pass exists *because* of Tour and its cities and non-cities.
My main complain is that there are no city tracks from poor/third world countries, most city tracks are from European or North American cities and they feel very samey, i would love to see tracks set in Latin America or Africa or somewhere else in Asia for some variety, but i guess Nintendo doesn't want to have tracks set in cities that have violence and poverty in a family friendly game
Then again, some of the city tracks aren’t “accurate” to how they actually are irl (Los Angeles especially, from what I’ve heard) But I do agree, would’ve loved to see more representation from other countries
When I first found out about MKT tracks being based on real-world cities, I added that to my list of reasons why I shall never touch that game (I found their existence kind of weird). However, I've since gotten into Geography, and I can say I find them much more welcome. I've since played some online in MK8D (I don't have the BCP itself so that's the only way I can play them) and They are just like any other MK track selection as in some are better than others. Madrid, Rome, and Singapore are some of my favorites. Rome has all the Rome landmarks which makes it exciting, Madrid is just an excellent playing Mario Kart track, and Singapore Speedway is more appealing than the country itself. I will say some like Tokyo and Los Angeles are among the most boring courses in the entire series though. I also find it weird that major cities like Jakarta, Rio de Janeiro, Mexico City, Mumbai, Istanbul, Moscow, Beijing etc. were snubbed for minor cities such as Los Angeles, Sydney, Amsterdam, Madrid, and Vancouver. I'm fine with Madrid because it's actually a fun track, but others like Los Angeles are complete waste of space, both as a city track and a Mario Kart track (I guess they also didn't want Moscow are Beijing because Nintendo wants to be family friendly and not include any of the "bad" countries at the expense of potentially memorable tracks in favor of freaking Los Angeles Laps). All this being said, if thet are ever to return, I'd rather them readd some course hazards and stick to one variation of the track (e.g Madrid Drive 1, 2, or 3 in particular instead of the whole bunch). Rant over
The main reason I dislike these tracks is kinda opposite to some of the points you made: they’re extremely overwhelming. In an attempt to incorporate as many iconic features of each city as possible, the layout and direction of each track seems completely random, and there seems to be a real lack of thought behind how the tracks actually play out. This leads to them feeling very overwhelming and directionless, no matter how many times I play the track, I can never learn to anticipate what comes next. So yeah I really hope that Nintendo keeps these tracks out of the next Mario Kart, but I’d love to see the alternate route feature come back in the Nitro courses
i personally am in love with the city tracks. in most waves they were some of the tracks i was most hyped for, mostly for the reason that we could finally drive them like "normal" mario kart games. so i am really glad they put all of them in so every one of them will be available forever. and from the people that criticize them i've noticed that in 90% of those cases they are also hating on mario kart tour itself for... just being mario kart tour. they always brought up the gacha argument and how it doesn't feel like a mario kart at all etc., and they never really focussed on the content itself, which i found pretty sad. and of course those people are then mad because their mainline mario kart tracks aren't featured. i would've understood this argument if we got 32 tracks with 14 cities in them or something, but since we got 4-5 new retros every wave it just feels... uncalled for. i still don't see how these tracks are "too repetitive" seeing that every single one of them has massive visual differences, neither do i get the layout argument. they could've also just included one of the three variants and do three laps on them, instead they decided to mix it up and have it be a whole sightseeing track. i don't care in what order i visit anything, the fact that every lap is different is something i really enjoy. and the last thing might be a personal feeling, but the 200cc and "the layout is not clear enough"-arguments just seem... stupid? because yes, you have to learn new tracks, and that has always been the case, since the very first mario kart. retro tracks are of course easier to learn, because most of the players had already learned them in past games. but take the original mk8 base game nitros for example. i am pretty sure that people weren't doing so great on their first playthroughs of them as well. mario kart tracks need to be learned. yes, they need to be kinda clear on the first playthrough, but personally i got that feeling from the city tracks. it didn't seem to me like they were too weird to drive or something
I definitely think that all the cities deserved to be in the bcp. However, I do see why people are not a fan of them. However, I think that most of the problems mentioned in this video could be fixed if only one returns in the next game. Not only would new models be put in place to help whichever city play better in both 150 and 200 but hopefully it would force Nintendo to include more obstacles. If I had to pick a city that should return in the next game. I would hope Tokyo returns in the shell cup. I feel with a new Mario Kart Tokyo’s presentation and gameplay would seriously be improved and live up to the actual city. Personally, Tokyo is my least favorite city track and that makes me pretty sad. So hopefully Nintendo brings at least 1 city track back and Pipeline for the next game.
My only actual problem was that there wasn't enough Eiffel Tower moments. In Paris Promenade, the Eiffel Tower is a noticeable landmark that player directly interact with multiple times to act as a reminder that you are in Paris, not just a random generic city. The only other thing like this I can remember off the top of my head was Rome Avanti with the Colosseum, and yet that somehow didn't have a strong enough of an effect (I still like it tho, but my point stands). I can see arguments of the baseball diamond in LA Laps or the soccer stadium in Madrid Drive, but I've seen several baseball diamonds and soccer stadiums in my life and yet have never been to either of those two so its still generic. They should've been soooooo much more generic tourist-y with the tour tracks. THEN it would've worked imo.
Personally I've never liked the city tracks. Theyre confusing and all really similar to me. As you said, theyre all visually unique, but design wise, its pretty much empty road, set piece, empty road, set piece. Some of the courses of really cool set pieces, such as the suspension bridge in Vancouver Velocity, but it only ends up being a small portion of the entire course. As such, I have a few favorite city courses, being Athens, Paris, Berlin, and London, but then find it difficult to want to play any other city course because they feel like less fun versions of said top 4.
The only real opinion I hold strongly about them is that their constantly changing layouts, tight turns, and confusing minimap makes them a pain to drive through on the first few playthroughs. I don't think the argument of 8 deluxe courses "taking up slots" holds that much water though. As tour was the most recent MK game prior to 8 deluxe booster pass, porting them over was always going to be an easier lift than trying to port over an older course like SNES Bowser's Castle. Given the sheer number of courses for such a low price, reducing the needed work by prioritizing tour tracks makes perfect sense to me (it was probably why they felt confident about offering the price they did in the first place). Not all courses took the same amount of effort to develop, kind of like how not every character in Smash Ultimate required the same amount of effort to implement (see: echo characters). When looking at stuff like this, it's important not to think of things in terms "number of slots" and more in terms of "amount of effort". That being said, Yoshi's Island is my favorite course in the entire series so I really can't complain too hard.
I loved the City tracks. I mean, New Donk City could be a great track for the game, but Nintendo didn't care to put it in MK8D. The cities are a proof it could have work, regardless of the apparent randomness of the laps.
I somewhat see where people are coming from with hating city tracks, there are WAY worse tracks in the BCP. DS Mario circuit, Daisy circuit, etc (circuit tracks in general should imo get way more hate than city tracks, as they are just the road from the city tracks, without the interesting landmarks). There are only a few ‘bad’ city tracks like Tokyo and London while the rest range from average to actually amazing such as Singapore and Sydney
The city courses ended up ticking all of the boxes for me, leading them to be the favorite courses in the entire series. 1. The arrow field gimmick became one of my favorite gimmick in the series. 2. I’m a geography nerd who loves the surprising level of accuracy in the city layouts. 3. Tour is one of my favorite Mario Kart games (although the BCP introduced me to Tour).
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has Anti Gravity + with introduction of Half Pipes making tracks more crazier, to make it more interesting. Mario Kart Tour city tracks don’t add ANTI GRAVITY / Half Pipies (expect Athens dash, Vancouver Velocity and LA laps, but without making better graphics compared that was in the based game. And also the Majority of City tracks like Tokyo blur, New York minutes, London Loop, Bangkok rush, LA laps etc. they don’t add moving or blocking vehicles as obstacles (that includes a Carriage Truck as hang glider section) making the roads / streets so boooooring (besides adding goombas, Thowps, Whops, Swoopers, and Chain Chomps) to avoid them. * Still I too nerfed to avoid them *
Some of the main issues with city tracks: -Because they're based on real cities, a large portion of track is dedicated to regular roads, resulting in repetitive and uninteresting gameplay -Because the roads are so wide, hazards are usually insignificant and the track isn't able to provide difficulty without overly sharp turns and narrow parts of the track -Because the route changes each lap, any especially interesting gameplay ideas are usually only encountered once per race, resulting in the tracks as a whole feeling too uneventful and similar to each other -Because of the lack of visual detail, the cities themselves typically feel somewhat barren and lifeless The more you think about these problems, the more a solution suddenly presents itself: Why not just add moving traffic to the roads? If you analyze the progression of the laps of Berlin Byways, you quickly realize that it utilized this solution pretty much perfectly. The traffic ensures that the regular roads can still keep players engaged and provide difficulty in a way that's fair even on 200cc, and the route changing means that players interact with them in multiple different ways that haven't really been seen since Mushroom City in MKDD. Hell, despite Berlin Byways only being a traffic course 40% of the time, its traffic is actually used much more effectively than that of Moonview Highway. The addition also means that despite the course lacking in visual detail, the city feels appropriately lively and busy compared to most others. Now obviously, this isn't something that could be done for a large number of them at once, in part because you'd significantly need to change some layouts, but Nintendo going a bit further and having moving traffic on one or two other cities, or even just putting more stationary vehicles on the empty roads, would have probably gone a long way in making the cities as a whole feel a bit more eventful. (If you're worried about having too many traffic-based courses at that point, just get rid of Moonview Highway and possibly Shroom Ridge as well, including Airship Fortress or something instead). If the cities still need further fixing at that point, I'm not entirely sure about how to address most of them, but Nintendo could probably just add more of the other hazards, especially if they insist on dumbing down the hazards of every regular retro track.
City tracks are my favourite tracks of the bcp, and I really find it annoying when people say that city tracks dont like them because they are from tour or because they are so confusing, I think that being confusing is the whole point of the city tracks, its like visiting a city for the first time and you feel obviously confused, thats what city tracks want to recreate in my opinion.
My take is just that I play Mario Kart, for the Mario/Nintendo themes. Many of the City courses barely relate/integrate Mario elements. I find them jarring and I'd only play them if I'm playing a grand prix.
I genuinely think my major issue is the places they choose from. They choose three North America track, three Asia tracks, one Australia track, ZERO South America and Africa tracks, and SEVEN Europe tracks. We could’ve had a lot more variety, but the distribution absolutely ruins that concept, with half being European.
I will say i think most of the tour tracks were mediocre. I don’t hate their inclusions, but there are some (like London and Tokyo) that I could do without. But there are definitely some bangers in there too like Madrid and Singapore.
Me personally I think the city tracks are kinda just a mixed bag. I like Vancouver, Madrid, Singapore and (controversially) London, but several of them like Berlin, Paris (the least dynamic) and Tokyo feel like nothing inclusions.
The final point made about the overabundance of courses is, frankly, stupid all around. It's not just logical they want to add all their Tour courses into a console game, it's been very clear it's the entire reason the BCP exists.
I was a little bit... concerned about the concept of city tracks when Wave 1 dropped. The changing routes gimmick seemed pretty fun, but neither course felt particularly enjoyable to race through. Luckily, those two would remain my least favorite city tracks BY FAR. The rest of the cities would range from okay at worst (Bangkok Rush and Berlin Byways probably being my least favorites) to really good at best (Vancouver Velocity is my fave, but Singapore Speedway is a close second... Sydney Sprint probably third). At the end of the day, my biggest criticism of them is how Waves 4 and 5 feel a bit oversaturated, as three per wave feels too much (especially when, at least imo, Amsterdam and Bangkok are my least favorite courses in Wave 4, and Athens and LA being close to the bottom in Wave 5 (RIP Sunset Wilds). Anyways, I think they were a great inclusion overall, for the sake of preservation, giving more people the chance to play these courses, and just generally letting them shine in a GOOD Mario Kart game. Its just a bit of a shame that, at least imo, they are more often than not toward the bottom of my rankings for each wave with just a handful of exceptions. Also, its a bit wild to think that 14 of the 48 new courses are Tour cities. Thats nearly 30% of the DLC. It also makes Tour the single most represented game in MK8 (not counting the actual MK8 nitro courses, obviously).
My problem with the city tracks is that I would prefer Mario Kart to remain in the fantastical MARIO world and unlock its fullest potential, rather than shoving in boring real world locations.
Tough. Maybe adapt because that is a small minded viewpoint, hating a track for that reason is just wrong. Like I’m not a fan of animal crossing and zelda but I don’t complain about the animal crossing or Zelda track
like why did they completely skip latam but make seven different european tracks???? asia and na (north od the rio grande) had three tracks each, and oceania had one... which is fine. it'd have been more interesting if at least two courses were in latam, let's say one in rio and another in ciumex, and another two in africa (lagos, capetown, cairo?) and the middle east (dubai is the posterboy of middleeastern racetracks, so im pretty sure theyd have made it there) well, whatever ig
Despite how plain and boring a few of them are (Tokyo Blur’s a prime example), I honestly prefer the execution of their 3-section lap structure than the single lap 3-structured split courses (Mount Wario, 3DS RR etc.). My favourite Tour city courses are the ones that spend the least amount of time on the plain roads (Athens Dash and Madrid Drive especially come to mind).
I can literally agree with all of the points that you touch in the video and i literally feel exactly the same as you, also MK for some reason don't like changes and they just want realistic boring looking courses, and i feel if the BCP was in the same style as the original tracks it could understand them in the point of all of the city tracks looking the same (Im throwing personal opinions after this point) also remodelling is basically a thing the devs didn't wanted to do because they had 4 or 5 months to make adjustments into the models but they simply didn't and just configured the game pathing, items, laps, etc. Moonview highway for some reason is the only track that was semi remodeled for MK8 but they didn't touch the buildings. Also the problem with city tracks being not as good in 200cc i feel like is more a MK8 problem in general because if you are not using one specific set of vehicles it's just not fun to play at all this is more a nitpick i have but sinse the BCP came out people has been "Making the tracks look good" by just putting low res grass/cliff texture and throw the base game assets and just make them look worse because the problem is not the textures, the problem is that MKTOUR tracks are modelled in a super different style that MK8 base tracks have and people always think the problem are the textures for no reason. In some areas the DLC is very lazy and in others i feel is the most fun i had with mario kart 8 since it came out like 10 years ago, like literally since it came out i already liked the bcp way more because i really don't like the way base mario kart 8 looks like, realistic style in MK games really doesn't fit and i just think about it as nintendo way to try to tell people "HEHEHEY WE CAN DO REALISTIC TOO DON'T LEAVE!!" because of the time it came out but everything of what i say don't really matter at all and i hope the next mario kart game give me the same fun BCP bring to me again.
If we were to get any track to replace another it would 100% be Pipeline. I don’t really get why it wasn’t included, it doesn’t even have “Piranha plant” in the Japanese name.
@@Marshall.RMoonview Highway has the best music in the entire game though, as for Daisy Circuit, I guess they really wanted there to be a Circuit track from every Mario Kart game
@@jomaq9233 Alas, incredible music can only go so far when you're dealing with one of the worst track remakes in the entire Mario Kart series. Meanwhile, Daisy Circuit was just terrible to begin with.
I personally think that the city tracks are mixed bag, some are great like Berlin and Athes, while some are terrible like Paris, Tokyo, and Los Angeles.
Fun fact. The city track textures are a technical limitation of the mario kart 8 engine. They're at the limit of how much detail they have, adding any more would boost some of them over the 60mb limit like LA Laps
also I like the city tracks. they're easy to follow musicwise, mostly unique, and do some cool things like driving some laps backwards rather than only forwards like in paris
I hate all of the city tracks. Every one of them. I also hate the non tour tracks that change change route on later laps like Kalimari Desert. Worst part of the city tracks is that they're ruining online for me because they're disproportionately frequent and always get like 3 quarters of the votes
Why hate on the fact that you can actually race on the train tracks & through the tunnel??? It's what everyone wishes they can actually do back in Mario Kart 64
It’s probably recency bias, but I wouldn’t know. I hardly see any when I play online. I don’t think they effectively ruin the game, but the saturation of BCP and Base courses is very noticeable with the voting system
i’m honestly surprised to hear that there’s no real consensus on the city tracks because in my experience people tend to say that singapore speedway is the best city track while vancouver velocity has the best music
Even the music doesn't seem to have that much of a consensus, a lot of people didn't initially like the remake of Vancouver Velocity that much, though I guess that could've changed since wave 5
Isn’t Singapore Speedway actually almost as simplistic as Paris and New York when you really think about it?
@@jomaq9233no, not exactly. The actual place you drive through is interesting in Singapore speedway whereas nearly all other cities are just plain road
@@DuskPustules The driving lines on Singapore are pretty simple though. Many long straight sections / long slow turns. It’s not a super simple track but I’d say in that sense NY is more complex (tighter turns in close proximity and low traction making precise lines difficult)
@@DuskPustules I meant in terms of actual track layout and gameplay, not thematically
Haha as much as I agree I think we both know what would happen if Nintendo made an African based track
I mean the Nile River is practically BEGGING for some giant 3-parter, and I'm sure Brazil, Argentina, Nepal, or South Africa could cook something up.
That’s a topic I want to cover someday..
The pain of knowing that a Mexico track will never happen 🥲
@@SethCocker05 hum I don't know what you're on about, could you please elaborate ?
While the number of European cities is a bit much, I think the bigger offender is somehow getting TWO U.S. cities, like come on Nintendo L.A. is not more deserving of representation than entire continents
I agree with what they say. The city tracks are possibly some of my favorite courses in the game. but, I can understand how the average person and feels stagnant for them.
AHH I’m so happy to finally see a comment section that’s actually giving appreciation to the city courses 😆 I really like them! It makes me sad to see them get bashed so much lol
Surprised to know that my video has that type of comment section, but to be fair it’s kinda expected for these tracks.
Whilst Tour never was my favourite game in the series, I absolutely loved the city courses and was really excited when the BCP announced they’d be coming to 8DX with courses like Berlin, Madrid, and Singapore being some of my favourites
I honestly really like them. They bring a new formula to the tracks and it's really fun to play them when you've leaned the layouts.
My city track rank:
1. Singapore
2. Sydney
3. Madrid
4. Vancouver
5. Berlin
6. Athens
7. Los Angeles
8. Rome
9. Bangkok
10. Amsterdam
11. London
12. Paris
13. New York
14. Tokyo
One rumor of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was there was going to be a Moscow Course as MOB M. Data miners even saw an image Of St Basil's Cathederal but due to outside events it was scrapped. but it could appear in Mario Kart X in some capacity if it came good again.
I'd like to see more preservation efforts for tour. specifically the RMX stages
True!
Here's my review of every City Track in one word:
Paris: Mid
Tokyo: Snoozefest
New York: Meh
Sydney: Amazing
London: Boring
Berlin: Underrated
Amsterdam: Wet
Bangkok: Great
Singapore: Masterpiece
Athens: Ugly
Los Angeles: Whatever
Vancouver: Overrated
Rome: Tricky
Madrid: Spectacular
This is the same with me, Amsterdam Drift, Madrid Drive & LA Laps are in my Top 5 tracks ever!

Tokyo Blur is the only city track thats mediocre
The rest are cool
With Vancouver, Rome, Singapore, Athens, & Berlin being the ones that standout the most
I have a GREAT solution for the City tracks that can be applied to all of them:
Just add stuff where there’s nothing going on.
City tracks are my favorite part of the bcp! I was never really excited about the retros since I can just play those tracks at any time lol
Whats new york minute without the taxi? what's singapore speedway without the roaring racer and vacation luigi? etc.
We all know Tokyo Blur is the GOAT when it comes to city tracks fr fr
We ALL know? Really?
Yeah it's the best course ever made. It can't be beat.
@@travissmith7808 yes it is a scientific fact
@@WeegeeMaro But I saw people who said otherwise. In fact, one person said that it was the worst city track in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
@@travissmith7808 obviously that’s a lie, Tokyo Blur is the track of all time and one of the tracks in the series
My biggest problem with the city courses is that they can be a nightmare in local multiplayer with their split paths.
as someone who’s had friends play on these tracks alongside on occasion, yeah.
I absolutely love this video! Its really well made and ive always loved the city tracks but im gine if others dont like them asl9kg as its for a reasonable reason. I also must say this comment section is amazing! Evreyone is so positive and its great seeing others who enjoy these tracks as much of me
The music in these courses are great though.
My main complain is that there are no city tracks from poor/third world countries, most city tracks are from European or North American cities and they feel very samey, i would love to see tracks set in Latin America or Africa or somewhere else in Asia for some variety, but i guess Nintendo doesn't want to have tracks set in cities that have violence and poverty in a family friendly game
the cities that got added also have violence and poverty though lmao
Then again, some of the city tracks aren’t “accurate” to how they actually are irl (Los Angeles especially, from what I’ve heard)
But I do agree, would’ve loved to see more representation from other countries
Rant over
this is a pretty good video on the topic, the music is basically nonexistent tho
I think the concensus i see on the city tracks is that they're well made. opinions split however on how well themed and diverse they feel
DS Mario Circuit & Wii Daisy Circuit aren't even bad at all, especially Daisy Circuit
That track doesn't even look like a usual Circuit track

* Still I too nerfed to avoid them *
Some of the main issues with city tracks:
-Because they're based on real cities, a large portion of track is dedicated to regular roads, resulting in repetitive and uninteresting gameplay
-Because the roads are so wide, hazards are usually insignificant and the track isn't able to provide difficulty without overly sharp turns and narrow parts of the track
-Because the route changes each lap, any especially interesting gameplay ideas are usually only encountered once per race, resulting in the tracks as a whole feeling too uneventful and similar to each other
-Because of the lack of visual detail, the cities themselves typically feel somewhat barren and lifeless
The more you think about these problems, the more a solution suddenly presents itself: Why not just add moving traffic to the roads?
"closest friends"
does that include me teehee
City tracks are my favourite tracks of the bcp, and I really find it annoying when people say that city tracks dont like them because they are from tour or because they are so confusing, I think that being confusing is the whole point of the city tracks, its like visiting a city for the first time and you feel obviously confused, thats what city tracks want to recreate in my opinion.
'when people say that city tracks don't like city tracks'
What.
Yo I love madrid
I have the weird opinion of the city tracks being my all time favorite tracks from Mariokart
Are you someone with a soft spot for geography?
I didn't know B-rad played Mario Kart lol
My take is just that I play Mario Kart, for the Mario/Nintendo themes. Many of the City courses barely relate/integrate Mario elements. I find them jarring and I'd only play them if I'm playing a grand prix.
You can’t avoid them online kid
yo that's me
I genuinely think my major issue is the places they choose from.
14/48 of the tracks being cities is fine, that’s still 34 other tracks which is a lot.
Unfortunately you can’t really change the map due to split screen. I do think they should of made each lap their own color on the mini map though
they went on a world tour that skipped like 2 of the 6 populated continents. that's why im personally not that much of a fan of them.
like why did they completely skip latam but make seven different european tracks???? asia and na (north od the rio grande) had three tracks each, and oceania had one... which is fine. it'd have been more interesting if at least two courses were in latam, let's say one in rio and another in ciumex, and another two in africa (lagos, capetown, cairo?) and the middle east (dubai is the posterboy of middleeastern racetracks, so im pretty sure theyd have made it there) well, whatever ig
I can literally agree with all of the points that you touch in the video and i literally feel exactly the same as you, also MK for some reason don't like changes and they just want realistic boring looking courses, and i feel if the BCP was in the same style as the original tracks it could understand them in the point of all of the city tracks looking the same (Im throwing personal opinions after this point)
also remodelling is basically a thing the devs didn't wanted to do because they had 4 or 5 months to make adjustments into the models but they simply didn't and just configured the game pathing, items, laps, etc. Moonview highway for some reason is the only track that was semi remodeled for MK8 but they didn't touch the buildings. Also the problem with city tracks being not as good in 200cc i feel like is more a MK8 problem in general because if you are not using one specific set of vehicles it's just not fun to play at all
this is more a nitpick i have but sinse the BCP came out people has been "Making the tracks look good" by just putting low res grass/cliff texture and throw the base game assets and just make them look worse because the problem is not the textures, the problem is that MKTOUR tracks are modelled in a super different style that MK8 base tracks have and people always think the problem are the textures for no reason.
I just wish they put wario shipyard over rosalinas ice world
Rosalina's Ice World is underrated, we should've lost Moonview Highway or Daisy Circuit instead to get Wario Shipyard
It's too similar to Piranha Plant Cove
I personally think that the city tracks are mixed bag, some are great like Berlin and Athes, while some are terrible like Paris, Tokyo, and Los Angeles.
Fun fact. The city track textures are a technical limitation of the mario kart 8 engine. They're at the limit of how much detail they have, adding any more would boost some of them over the 60mb limit like LA Laps
also I like the city tracks. they're easy to follow musicwise, mostly unique, and do some cool things like driving some laps backwards rather than only forwards like in paris
I just wish that they lowered the appearance of bananas on those tracks because of the fact that there's not a lot of overlapping spaces
You sound like a casual kid who can’t wrap his mind around the thought of alternating laps. Grow up and get accustomed to those complexities lmao
It’s tiring playing online with so many city courses being chosen back to back, I think it ruins the game overall
It’s probably recency bias, but I wouldn’t know. I hardly see any when I play online.
I don’t think they effectively ruin the game, but the saturation of BCP and Base courses is very noticeable with the voting system
Less I see you online the better, just, stay away, thanks

@@GoldenDryBonesandStu I’m talking to the original commenter, not you.
@@WritingCountingOriginal girl stay focused on your mediocre videos
I really wouldn't consider them divisive, they seem to be pretty unpopular among the majority
