the magic of discovering album by album, putting money aside, making a trip to the records store, pick the album just by its cover, going back home, unpacking it and playing the first track. magic times!
Of the prog albums..I agree with WInd #1. I'd also have to add in Selling as my third. For the semi prop not yet fully pop albums, Abacab and Genesis/Genesis are my favs.
I completely agree. This is one of their best, yet seems to be quite underrated. Blood on the Rooftops is one of my favorite Genesis songs. Powerful, musically and lyrics.
The song is about the Jacobite rebellion of 1715. The Earl of Mar, John Erskine, led the rebel forces (with the title of "The Great Pretender"), but in reality he was an incompetent general, who wasted all strategic advantages by camping. near the city of Perth for a week, giving the Royal opposition forces time to organize. This John Erskine is the 6th Earl of Mar de jure, the 22nd according to the old enumeration and the Eleventh according to the Scottish enumeration which is the one used in the title of the song. The song is very precise and sarcastic about the Count
My go to album. I cannot even begin to describe how much I love this and how I feel when I am listening to it. This album is another level!! What a fantastic opening track!!
Yes, I love it too. It's their most romantic album, richly textured and with many songs touching on love and longing...or hints of nostalgia. Everyone on board sounds amazing (as also on the follow-up live album). With Steve Hackett's exit from the band, the era of "classic progressive Genesis" was effectively over. I don't grudge them the change, I realize that they wanted to make some serious money from the band and get to play to bigger audiences and this is perfectly legit - but it clearly changed their way of doing songs a bit.
My very first Genesis record. I bought it because as a 10 year old I liked the cover. I’ve been hooked ever since. I’m actually listening to BillFilm right now and his masterpiece: From Revelation to Stations. I can’t wait to see them on tour!!!
I was a lucky bunny with this album, managed to get it o import 8 weeks before its UK release, saw them all 3 nights of them reopening the Rainbow, met Mike's mum in the foyer and she introduced me to them at the stage door after the 1st night gig, saw them again at the Gaumont in Southampton and all 3 nights at Earl's Court, what a year that was!
What a great song! Everyone in the band shines brightly on this track. This was the album that hooked me on Genesis, in 1978, then I went backwards and discovered all the earlier great music that came before it. I never get tired of it. I don’t have the same deep love for the 80s-90s music as I have for the 70s prog masterpieces, but it’s all good. Genesis was always inventive. Looking forward to seeing them one last time this December!
@@qriofficial1769 3 immortal masterpieces: Foxtrot, Selling and Lamb + 2 great albums : ATOTT and Nursery + 2 good albums: Trespass and Wuthering. Then it's another band.
🎶 Eleventh Earl Of Mar 🎶 Thanks Genesis For This Excellent, Awesome, Great & Fantastic Masterpiece. You're The Best!!!!! GENESIS FOREVER!!!!! 🎤🎹🎸🥁🎸🎼 🎤🎹🎸🥁🎸🎼 🎤🎹🎸🥁🎸🎼 🎤🎹🎸🥁🎸🎼
The more I listen to this the more I love it. This and ‘Trick’ are excellent back to back recordings. Thanks Genesis. 👍🏻 and thanks to my old Canadian roommate TPW.
I love Genesis!! I was 16 when ...and then there were three came out and I bought all the back albums and became the biggest Genesis fan in my high school years and beyond, still they make me feel the same way and that is testament to the greatness of Genesis.
Wind and Wuthering I guess is my favourite album. Full of passion intrigue and so much more - a sheer pleasure to listen to. Eleventh Earl of Mar - simply legendary - "Daddy oh Daddy you promised - Daddy" - epic!
The huge and best album of Genesis. The Top of the Top for me. Great music, great sound, great feelings... Oh yes... this is the Best ! Phil from Dunkirk
seems everyone says there first genesis album was their favorite. i could not afford albums - was at my friends every day and he had them all. Lucky me
It's the second album with Phil as lead singer - the first was "A Trick of the Tail", that just finished last friday with "Los Endos". Peter did quit after The Lamb.
2021 Genesis and Phil still THE BEST in this world. Please take care of yourself, we love you. Thanks from Paris with all my love.
Magique !

They certainly were.
Wind And Wuthering has it's own magic.
Best album cover ever
I was 15 when I first heard this opening track on headphones. Genesis has been my favorite band ever since.
I was 15 too!! Also got to see them live that year in HartfordCT-unbelievable sho w
I've been listening to this for more than 40 years now and it's still sending shivers down my spine. Timeless, amazing, beautiful music! ❤
Me, too - since the 70's in college!
Me also. Every time I listen to this is it like listening to it for the very first time. It never ceases to amaze me!!
Fuck me yeah...
Does stuff to me, all these years...!
I know...!
The same feelings
This album and A Trick of the Tail are my favorites

Absolutely for Phil Collins. My favorite Peter led is The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway
ELP, YES & GENESIS THE BEST OF ALL!🎉❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
You sound like me-love progressive rock
Those are the three pop ones! All incredible although, to me, Yes is unparalleled.

Totally agree 👍 🤝 🎉
The often underrated and overlooked gem in their catalogue. Almost a perfect album, EVERY song is great on this one!
I could do without "Your Own Special Way" but yeah, other than that one, a top album.
Its perfect.
I completely agree. This is one of their best, yet seems to be quite underrated. Blood on the Rooftops is one of my favorite Genesis songs. Powerful, musically and lyrics.

As a super fan of both Genesis and the show Outlander, I found this comment so interesting. Thank you!

Thanks many for the explanation. How did you learn it?
I love the historical background of the song... thanks for the info...

What an opener for any Album. Sets the Mood. Genesis #1 Always.
The album cover sets the mood perfectly for this masterpiece.

Me too, except I was around 30. Bought it by mistake instead of TOTT. Now it always ends up in my top 10
Saw this played live at Knebworth in 1978. Utterly amazing sound and a spine--tingling experience I'll never forget.
I was there too great day.

Happy Birthday Wind And Wuthering...
"Those conquering heroes, with blisters on their feet." Brilliant stuff!!
I still have my 3/17/1977 $6.00 ticket stub. Great concert.
This is a track I can listen to all time. The intro alone speaking for the whole track. Underrated track and album in my opinion

Someone please tell me what that line means, because I'm lost. Is it something to do with some Anglican church ritual?
Oh yes, what an album!! Let's go!
I fell asleep to this album for about a year in my teens and I still dig it.
Here comes the Bishop, all dressed up.
He's gonna bless you if you're ready to pay. 😂
That's historically accurate, the vatican used to sell pardons to get easy money.
And then came Luther and said "I'm done with this bullshit"
The last great Genesis album of the 70s!
Yes, it was downhill from there, l would say more so after Duke.
Sadely, SH will leave after this great opus ...
the last good Genesis of all time!

This song is from my favorite era of Genesis, the quartet with Phil era. 😁
Great opening for this wonderful album.

Had the privilege to watch Genesis play this great album live in Rio de Janeiro in the seventies. Wow, what a concert! Simply unforgettable!
My first Genesis Album. Borrowed from the local library. What a find! To put this on with no expectations whatsoever.

Trick of the tail is usually my go to album for Genesis. Forgot about this one. But then I forget a lot of things. Just ask my wife. 😜
My favourite Genesis track bar none. After this great opening, Wind & Wuthering then goes straight in to One For The Vine - what an album!
I’d love to see Genesis fronted by PG again. He still has an incredible voice

In my book the last real Genesis album. Bought this in 1976, after that I bought the earlier albums but never the albums after this one, wasn't the real Genesis anymore ...
Who else will try to play such a music?
Typical greatness from Genesis.
In Mar, Hack's middle guitar break, punctuated by Phil's stuttering snare is, to say the least, scream worthy.
Beautiful 🌞🍀🌞🍀👍
Phil sounded so young before his voice started maturing 2 or 3 years later.
Great music, sound, melody.....
How about a deluxe reissue of this album and Trick of the Tail ??
With demos and live stuff from the time. That'd be awesome. 🎶👍🎵
Grandes Memórias! From Genesis to Revelation...to...Wind and Whutering...
I’ll go as far as; …. And then there were three.
The rest is commercial music. So sad.
