Yes Yashica used to be a marque to be reckoned with. Of course in later years they worked in cooperation with Contax and shared the same lens mount. Very much underrated.

I like my Nikon equipment and accepted that post processing was typical to correct colors until I bought some old Pentax & Yashica lenses and an old Pentax K10D. Pictures straight out of camera from the latter almost never need post processing. I love the colors of the lenses made for Pentax. Thanks for sharing.

I have a quite big collection of vintage 50 - 58mm lenses. For my taste this Pentax Auto Takumar 55mm f1.8 is a favorite too. The combination of good sharpness, vibrant color rendering and a blurry but tasty boukeh is hard to find in other lenses. This lens will stay with me for the next 40 years to come.

Good old Pentax. Back in 1982 I bought a Pentax ME Super for college, which came with a lovely 50mm SMC f1.7 'kit' lens. I used it for almost all my photography - all B&W and hand-processed back then. I still have the lens and use it on my Canon 5D or 6D bodies. I've recently been acquiring more Pentax lenses as they are so good - light and nice to use. It's great to use all-manual settings & focus and you won't go wrong with Pentax glass. The 50mm f4 Macro and the 135mm f3.5 are also excellent and all are so cheap & light to carry, compared with the modern f1.4 monsters. Rocky Cameras in the UK usually have a good selection - search for Pentax SMC.

Sellers often ask very inflated buy it now prices, as they know there's a strong market for vintage lenses. On ebay I usually buy lenses on auction, where they reach a more accurate - and usually much cheaper price. Patience is the key!

    • @alexblaze8878
      @alexblaze8878 3 года назад

They can be found cheaper if you do an eBay search for the cameras they were usually mounted on. To find the Yashinon lenses do a search for “Yashica” and select the option for ‘SLR’ to filter out all the TLR and rangefinder cameras. It’ll pull up a bunch of the Yashica TL, TL Electro TL Electro X, and TL Super SLRs. Many of these are listed as broken cameras but I’ve yet to get one where the lens is also not working.
I just bought three of them (one of the cameras came with 3 lenses!) and didn’t pay more than $30 each for the camera lens combo. The lenses included total were the:
      Yashinon DX 50mm 1.7
Yashinon DX 50mm F2 (it also came with 2 other lenses: Auto Mamiya Sekor 55mm 1.8 and Auto Revuenon 55mm 1.7)
      Yashinon DS 50mm 1.7
For the Takumar lenses I did a search for the older Pentax SLRs primarily the Pentax H2 and H3 and ended up with:
      - Takumar 28mm 2.8
      - Auto Takumar 55mm F2 (The Zebra version which is such a beautiful lens. I paid more-$35- for this one)
      - Super Takumar 135mm 3.5
For Nikon, they get more expensive. Nikon’s cheaper deals come from the old Nikkormat, Nikomat FTN, Nikon FG, and Nikon EM cameras. Many of these have the 50mm 1.8 Series E that Nigel had on this video.
Hope you find this useful. Happy hunting!

Like many people I am on a budget and my old kit lenses come from the old DDR and USSR. So how about a review similar to this one between the Helios 44, Pentacon 50mm f1.8, and the Carl Zeis Jena (Tessar) 50mm f2.8? I expect many of us have these lenses from our Zenit & Praktica days !

Nice. I learned on my Pentax K1000 (with a zoom lens) back in the early '90s, though I didn't get the 50mm f/2 for it until 2016. Today I have a lot of fun using older manual lenses like these on modern cameras, since they can get striking images that modern lenses are too perfect to capture, and they're usually very inexpensive too.

The Nikon 50mm f/1.8 Series E lens is a sleeper lens, just like many of the Nikon Series E lens lineup, which were designed as budget lenses to complement their EM, FG range of manual focus cameras. Typically at auction on sites like Ebay, these lenses sell for a wide range of prices from $40-90 USD (30-70 GBP). Sites like KEH.com sell this lens in "Ugly" condition for $25 USD (19 GBP) and in "Excellent" condition for $115 (88 GBP). The wide range of pricing for this lens suggests that it's a good-performing and highly praised lens that is also rather readily available.

My copy of the Yashica ML 50mm f2 can be freakishly sharp. It even outperformed some of my modern lenses in that aspect.
On another topic, I'm hoping you can help me out. I have a Yashica lens with no recorded history on the internet. It's a YUS 135mm with 58mm filter thread. There are many similarities between that one and one with a 55mm thread, but there are a few other subtle differences and I can't seem to find any information on it. My main source is usually allphotolenses but they don't have it listed, and an internet search came up with nothing. Where do you get your information for vintage lenses and their history? I would appreciate any resources that may be useful.

However it looked as though the inner elements wouldn't be too difficult to remove either.
