Can’t thank you enough! You just saved me about $800. 2015 Yukon with 80k miles. Can’t believe this kind of thing would happen.
Some GM engineer that was part of the planned obsolescence is watching this in disbelief.
Found this video when my left tail light went out but during the winter is started working so I held off till it warmed up. Once it got hot out the right one gave out on me too, and with the help of this video I was able to get them both fixed! You are the man
It held up pretty well with mine for years. I ultimately bought new ones for peace of mind, so if you ever decide, there is another harness to disconnect depending on the ones you buy (mine didn’t have a removable reverse light) Yukon Tahoe Suburban Tail lights replacement: How to install tail lights 2015-2020 GM SUV

I followed your instructions to the tee and repaired the light. You saved me easily $700 at dealership. Thank you
No joke, most helpful RUclips video I’ve ever seen. Just saved $600. I just melted the plastic with the thin tip on the soldering iron cause I don’t have a heat gun.
Omg this is so creative
Just did it and it worked. Saved me $500. Thanks. I struggled with soldering and had to run to the store so it took me 2 hours
Thanks! Just fixed mine. You were exactly right on the spot that broke. 30 minutes and she’s good as new
Your steps were clear and got to the point. Got my light working again. I was hesitant gettin a new light because it would randomly come back on. So i knew there had to be a break somewhere, and sure enough there it was. Thank tou for the help!! Saved me about $400
Worked great. I didn't have a heat gun so I just used the soldering iron to make the hole in the plastic housing. Keep up the good work!!!
88k miles and mine went bad. Fixed it with this video and everything I already had on hand. You rock man!
Can’t believe it but this worked on my vehicle as well. Less than 40k miles on it 2017 Yukon. This is awesome. And now I feel like my man card just got another hole punched in it. Thanks for this video.
They still have a warranty replacement for anyone that has under 79k miles. Check with your local dealer
Clutch! Went and bought a soldering iron - $15 bucks and saved a ton of money. AND, I feel more like a man than I ever have before. Told my wife to pump the brakes hard. And she did. And we had light. If there were an "on the 8th day" in Genesis, it would have been for this reason.
Thanks Danny. You saved my day. The tail light fix worked like a charm and only took me an hour or so to fix. Great job. Thanks again.
Awesome guide to repair my 2016 Yukon Denali with LED running and brake lights not working...fixed at “0” cost with tools on hand. Saved me over $850!
Worked perfectly. Thanks for saving me a lot of money!! Fixed mt wife's 2015 Yukon XL tail light. NOTE!!! the small metal "Bridge" appeared to connect both large pieces of metal" Those tiny "bridge" connections should NOT be connected!! See Tom Maddox description below. Other than that mix up everything went fine for me.
Thanks for this viddy! Left tail light done about 6 months ago, right done tonight, noticed it burned out about an hour ago. 30 mins and done!
Thanks Danny! Worked like a charm and saved my friend who just bought a used one a ton of dough!
You saved me so much money! I’ve been driving around with this defective light, been threatened by PD to ticket me if they saw it again. I was on eBay about to purchase a replacement and your video came up. Thank you, thank you! Fixed it in 15 minutes.
Amber Fox I’m so glad to hear that Amber. I’m glad you found the video in time. Feel free to see my other videos on this yukon here ruclips.net/p/PLIjr-uSYDZi7J7EQ1ErTn1Yzi6ET_3Ssr
So if you never did this before then how much is the light
Actually it is not the reveres bulb, it is the red part. How do I get that part of the taillight.
I was just stopped hundreds of miles from home because of this, I now have a warning ticket, I didn’t know that I had this problem.
Thank you for this! I did it in about 45mins. Saved us a ton of money.
2015 yukon here, same problem, thanks for video this fix worked great and you didn't show sealing up but I used some permatex. worked great!
Man, you saved my bacon. The right side tail light has been on and off for two years before it quit, then the left side quit completely. I fixed both with your video. I'm at least $1200.00 ahead. Thank You!!!
I had to fix my light in a jam saw this video and I tweaked the metal so it made contact temporarily until I got the rest of the stuff to do the complete repair, loving RUclips right now, everyone’s comments about saving big dollars is completely true
Just did this repair! Thank you for the very easy to follow tutorial!
Worked like a charm and saved me around $1k. Both of my wife's tail lights stopped working on her 2015 yukon
Followed your instructions perfectly. Thanks you saved me $750 vs stealership.
I just want to say thank you so much for this video. I was having the same problem with my Yukon and today I did exactly what you said to do in this video and it works. I’m not the kind of person that trying things and comment on things. But I’m telling you this works and I appreciate you for posting this video. You saved me a $800 dollars bill. I wish there was a way to post a video of my truck on here so people can see that is works. My tail light was broken in both spots you showed in the video. Man all I can say thanks very much...
I’m so glad to hear that. Thank you for the comment. You may enjoy my other videos on his yukon found in my playlist ruclips.net/p/PLIjr-uSYDZi7J7EQ1ErTn1Yzi6ET_3Ssr
Watched the video and did the repair as shown. Only had to cut the first tab out as you described It. Used a Dremel, but I think the hot knife would have been easier and cleaner. Noticed the metal tab was broken as you had described and jumped a copper wire across and soldered. Worked great. A new tail light assembly on Amazon is $380. Took about a 1/2 hour all in. Thank you!!!
Paid $1200.00 to fix the right side of my Yukon XL. A year later the left tail light quit. There should be a recall on this! I will fix this myself.
Worked perfectly. The first section was the issue on mine. Great tutorial with the heat gun. I wouldn’t have thought of that.
Thank you so much for making this video. I had never soldered before. Was able to fix my taillight.
Awesome video saved me al lot from dealership scammer that wanted $3k for the job. Appreciate you time and thanks again.
This video was perfect. As soon as I fixed one side sure enough the other side went out. After doing this I have had no problem. Thanks for the share.
I’m very glad you enjoyed it! Feel free to see my other videos on this Yukon in my playlist ruclips.net/p/PLIjr-uSYDZi7J7EQ1ErTn1Yzi6ET_3Ssr
Thank you!!!! Spent 30 minutes following your video and now it’s fixed. For FREE!
If you ever decide to replace them entirely there is one more step, just fyi for the future

Thank you. Worked out perfect. Only took 15min. I used a hot blade attachment for the solder iron to access the joint. Helps smooth it over when done. Can barely tell it was fixed. Thanks again.
Excellent video thank you. I had the exact same breakage and you just taught me how to solder :) thank you sir. Worked like a charm.
I just bought a 2017 Yukon Denali. I will mark this video for later reference.
I watch an internet mechanic out of Pennsylvania. That does these kinds of repairs all the time, even in modules and things. And it's always nice to be able to remember how to do it. Thank you for a great video.

You saved me a lot of time and effort not to mention money. Thank you.
Extremely helpful and well done video !
Pecicely the same crack in my 2015 Yukon
brake light LED circuit / plate.
Thanks Danny
Just did this today! Mine was broken in the second spot you opened in the video. Used the heated razor blade method to open up, and fixed/reinforced both spots with copper wire. Sealed my plastic pieces back on with marine grade silicone. Thanks so much for this video. Spent 20 bucks on soldering equipment, and ready for when the other one fails!!
Where can you get the soldering equipment from
I was on a mission to not buy a new taillight from the dealership for $800. I bought a new connection wire and when that didn’t work, I followed this video step by step.
I’ve never solder anything before.
I went and bought a soldering gun…and figured it out.
Followed the steps in the video and IT WORKS!
Thanks guys!
Wow, just did this and it worked! Thanks so much for posting this vid and saving me $800! I felt like the dad opening up his leg lamp in The Christmas Story, that level of excitement when it worked
Ha ha! Thanks, glad it worked
Kudos to you for posting this! Total money saver. Thank you 😊
Just fixed my wife’s 2016 Yukon Denali with this. Thank you so very much!
That’s great! Good job too. Check out the other videos I’ve done on the Yukon here if you’d like ruclips.net/p/PLIjr-uSYDZi7J7EQ1ErTn1Yzi6ET_3Ssr
Followed you step by step. Saved me a lot of money! Thanks!
Incredible vid!
Found the crack on the lower connection. Dremel worked perfectly to make the cut in the plastic.
Thanks a million! I used copper wire also for structure, hoping it last a long time! Only took 30 min and $30 to get fixed, appreciate ya!
That’s great! Awesome job getting it done. Congrats! Here are my other videos on the Yukon that you might like ruclips.net/p/PLIjr-uSYDZi7J7EQ1ErTn1Yzi6ET_3Ssr
This worked perfectly for our 2017 Denali. Dealer wanted $900 and some change for a new one.
Only did the top portion left the lower one alone
Worked like a charm!! Thank you so much for posting this video.
Thanks a million, you saved me $475, I was just about to buy one on eBay then I said to myself let me watch a repair video for it , and Bingo you came along and I fixed it.
I’m so glad to hear that! Feel free to subscribe and see my playlist on the yukon. You never know when you’ll need it 😉. ruclips.net/p/PLIjr-uSYDZi7J7EQ1ErTn1Yzi6ET_3Ssr
@@dannyjohnsonsgarage I will absolutely do that.
Adding some flux during soldering process will make it flow and adhere much better. Nice video, thanks!
Wow, i was jyst about to order new lights and decited to check youtube first, so glad i did, thank you
I have this same problem. Excellent demonstration
I don't really comment on videos but I'm this case I truly want to thank you so much for this video I did exactly what you say and I fix mine in about one hour thank you so much I save like $400 dollars
Wanted to say THANK YOU .., Worked exactly as you showed,,,, It almost looks like a fusable link between the two conductors. Bridged with some solder,,,, savings = $249.95.
Again THANK YOU!!!!!
Thank you, you saved me the cost of a new light.
Thanks for the awesome video! Just did this repair on my wife’s Yukon XL. Only did the top portion for now as both sides work like a charm now.
😮wow thank you so so much. You saved me a ton of money and it’s Christmas so I’m out of it 😂. This worked on the first spot you said to open. There was a break in the board. Thanks so much I can tell you enough. Took about 30 minutes
Thanks for the video. Have had to do both lights. You were a big help.
I can't thank you enough. You no doubt saved me $ Hundreds.
I wish I would have seen your video before going to the mechanic. I figured since it was intermittent that it had to be a short somewhere. It never occurred to me that it could be the wiring in the light. Don't know why, it just didn't. Anyway after I didn't buy their $800 light they went ahead and charged me a nice diagnostic fee and I fixed it according to your video. FYI I had the upper break, just like yours. I didn't go into the lower to check, but if it starts flickering again, I know just what to do. Thanks again for the video.
Appreciate the video. Just fixed my wife's Yukon.
Great! See my other videos on this yukon here: ruclips.net/p/PLIjr-uSYDZi7J7EQ1ErTn1Yzi6ET_3Ssr
Thank you so much for the video. Spot on!! Was able to fix my light! Thanks again!
Amazing Video!! You just saved me a boatload of $$$!! Anybody else having issues with the front LED strips?
I do, have you found any solution?
Love your videos. Thanks again, you saved me a ton of money on this one
Thank you. This saved us a lot of money.
Thank you very much.
You would think on a $80,000 vehicle things like this would not be necessary.
You know with roughly 30,000 parts in a moden vehicle I would think it's a miracle the vehicles today don't break down more.
Thanks a lot. I fixed my taillight and it works fine. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I had a tail light repaired at a shop last year and it cost $750. I thought they may have ripped me off then when the next one went out I went to my dealership and they wanted $784. Luckily I found this video. The break ended up being in the 2nd space you showed which was quite a bit harder to open up, but my wife and I prevailed, finished in less than an hour and paid NOTHING! Saving over $750. FYI, you can find repair services for this same problem for $70 to $110 online, but you have to send them the fixture and wait for the return - seems like that could be sketchy and you might be chasing your unit besides not having a tail light for at least a few days to whenever they returned it. Thanks for the detailed video.
I’m sending both of my tail lights to Circuit Board Medics... they have good reviews and claim a lifetime warranty on their work. I sent them out Monday, expected to be here Wednesday. I hope they never need replaced again but if so, luckily there is the warranty
Dude! You just saved me $800! Thank you! Great video. Explained well. The only thing that threw me was that the plastic was attached to the metal on the circuit board at the point of the hole you used to anchor the wire, so when I pried up my cut out, it was pulling on the metal. What threw me was a small metal "Bridge" appeared to connect both large pieces of metal. It looked like one end had cracked off and I figured I had broken the connection when I pried it up so I soldered that as well as the main break you show here. When I tested the light, the middle LED's did not light up. So I de-soldered the small "Bridge" and bent it out of the way so as not to make contact and that did it. I am still trying to figure out why that piece was there.
I am back in business with a working light, never got a ticket and saved $800. Thanks for the video.
Tom Maddox I’m so happy to hear that! Good job on fixing it too. Here are more videos on this yukon if you’re interested ruclips.net/p/PLIjr-uSYDZi7J7EQ1ErTn1Yzi6ET_3Ssr
Is the copper wire need if my solder wire has copper in it, and what's the purpose of the copper?
@@khristopherbourque7345 Its just for structure since the solder itself will crack again. This keeps it together as one piece
@@dannyjohnsonsgarage k thanks.
Thank you soooo much..Followed it to a "t" and it worked..
This video was extremely helpful, the hardest part was cutting through plastic and it is definitely better to drill another hole to solder wire. I used Gorilla tape just in case I need to do it again.
How is it holding up? I’m needing a third set of tail lights and wondering if this technique would save me
Thank you so much. Was able to fix the problem. Sure as hell beats a new one for $400 +
That’s great news! I’m glad you found my video. Feel free to subscribe and follow along with my other yukon videos (44 and counting). ruclips.net/p/PLIjr-uSYDZi7J7EQ1ErTn1Yzi6ET_3Ssr
Fixed my driver side tail light tonight in about 45 minutes. The connection was broken in both spots. Thanks again for the video. These lights are currently backordered at every dealership and no one knows when they'll be available.
Sounds like a class action lawsuit or a recall.
DUDE!!! Thank you ! I just spend 9 dls haha….
10/10 easy and simple!
Great job on the video, mine broke in the first spot. 2015 yukon xl
Thanks man i did both of them really helpful video I save a lot of money 💰👍👍👍👍🤝
Really helpful I went to auto shop today for my broken taillight GMC Yukon 2016. They said only way can fix is buy a now now cost 600 dollars. Nowadays nobody can fixed a car Or they just don’t wanna fix it
Wow, thank you so much!! Simply doing gods work!
Thanks man! You saved me some money!! Excellent video.
Thank you so much. Your video has awesome step by step information. Was able to repair my lights without the help of my husband in no time. Saved me over $700. The dealer was going to charge me $350 for each light. My truck didn't qualify for the recall due to the mileage on my vehicle. But your video was very clear and to the point. Thanks soooo much.
I’m so glad you found the video and had success. Feel free to subscribe and see my other videos on the yukon here ruclips.net/p/PLIjr-uSYDZi7J7EQ1ErTn1Yzi6ET_3Ssr
Awesome video, I have done both sides on my daughter's Yukon.
Mine held up for years, but if you ultimately want new ones it’s pretty similar other than a harness at the bottom to also disconnect. Just fyi
ruclips.net/video/iNoihCUxUl4/видео.htmlsi=ObSDwC1WJrT9yvoW
I’d buy you a beer if I could, thank you for this, worked perfect!
Just repaired my my passenger side rear tail light. :-) I used some rubberized black waterproof flex tape from Autozone to seal the areas that were cut open. I wish I had known this was a fix last year when I paid $300+ to replace the driver's side tailight!
Dave's Channel Great job!
Excellent video thank for taking the time to show others how to fix this problem. I wondered if GMC will step up and fix the defect .
They have issues a recall for 15-16 only and under 75k miles or so ruclips.net/video/nD-zh0ydXe4/видео.html
Thank you very much for the advice It worked great I'm and running 👍🏼👍🏼
Worked perfectly. Thank you so much
Fixed my wife’s today. Awesome.
Thanks for this video. My drivers side taillight just went out. Going to try this. Parts department is wanting $527 plus $62 core charge for a new factory one, and it’s on back order.
I started with the first location and that is exactly where my break was. Soldered it and it’s working again. Thank you very much sir, Much appreciated!
Thanks for the video. Worked great.
Worked like a charm 1st time!
Thank you for the video. It worked perfectly.
Danny you are a savior it happened to me last year on the left side and it works. And I have notice my rught aide last night..I'm iff today part of the plan again thank you so mucj
That’s great. Mine lasted well, but I decided to get new ones since they have come down a bit in price. With that, some aftermarket brands don’t let you unplug the reverse light, so if you do decide later to get new ones here is the extra step ruclips.net/video/iNoihCUxUl4/видео.htmlsi=ixB7yLxNYYucrEYc
@dannyjohnsonsgarage good to know my left side that I have Fixed still okay today the right side fails noticed last night will fix it a bit later.
Will check that out for sure as I'm keeping my 2015. Again appreciated alots your shared talent here. Enjoy your day Danny
I found a T-15 Torch at Harbor Freight along with other sizes for $6:50 in a set, I initially was looking for the T-15 and a socket, then I looked at the Allen wrenches that is attached in a set, then I looked for the T- wrenches. And located a set with the T-15. Not criticizing, I like this video. I appreciate this video and others like it.
I dont even have this problem or car. Still a great video.
Thank you so much for all the information
Thanks for the video. Just saved me a bunch of money.
Thanks 20 minutes fix awesome video 👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you, 20 minute fix.
Thank you so much for this video. This just saved me a ridiculous amount of money (I was quoted roughly $800 from the dealer and CarMax) and I was able to fix the driver side tail light on my wife's Yukon in about an hour.
Philip Holyoak Great work! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Feel free to see my others on this truck here, and please feel welcome to subscribe if you haven’t yet. ruclips.net/p/PLIjr-uSYDZi7J7EQ1ErTn1Yzi6ET_3Ssr
Glad to hear it only took you about an hour. I will be given it a shot tomorrow morning. 👍
@@dannyjohnsonsgarage hey did everything you said and it worked for about 5 minutes then the middle led section of the taillight went out. I have fixed both ends. So why is the middle still out?
Thank you so much you saved me A LOT money!!!!!
A very common problem, yet GM won't acknowledge the issue and won't cover the repair/replacement. Thanks for showing how to make the repair.
They do offer an extended exchange, but limited by milage and year ruclips.net/video/nD-zh0ydXe4/видео.html
thank you again! now i can sell it with no issues
