A CUSTOM River Deck

- Tucked in a niche eddy on the river running past my home, with the foundation pinned to the bedrock with steel set in epoxy holes, this deck turned out to be one of the most fulfilling projects I've worked on. The entire process--with no drawings--was an organic pleasure from start to finish.
Great fun to watch Gary in the outdoors using his exceptional woodworking skills to make something useful and extraordinary. Love to see the dog accompany Gary in everything he does. Shall we call Gary a mountain man now?
Oregonian. :)
Great to see you Gary. Looking healthy and happy out there on the river. Keep us posted
LOVE how you built the decking around that tree !! I love it when ppl do that
Great to see you back on here!
Beautiful neighborhood!
Nice work Brother
Very cool little project! Looks great!
Thanks!
Very envious of your spot! You deserve it though!
Your pup sure likes the water. Thank you for sharing. The steps at the end reminded me of LOTR when Golem, Sam, and Frodo are traveling up from the Witch King's casa. :)
Awesome, Great Job 👏 👍🏼
loved this video
Wonderful Gary-- time for a swim too
Was just thinking about you the other day! Glad to see a video!
From trim carpenter to mad scientist building a lair in the mountains. Works for me!
Me too.
Awesome video, looks great.
Looks solid! I'd be interested to know how well this held up after being inundated a couple of times. I have a similar riverside situation at my place and would love to build a river deck that resists spring flooding. Anyway, thanks for the content!
Now that’s a great job site !!
Awesome river deck!!!!
That’s awesome Gary!
Looks great!!! 🙌🏻
Very cool!.I live on the banks of the Mississippi River
Ahhhhh, now THAT would be HISTORIC fun...have to build a wood raft if I lived there.
Great job I like that🇸🇦.
Nice spot by the river :)
Great time thy for sharing
did you put gravel under those rocks or lay them steight on the dirt? Also what did you use between the rocks, cement?
Rock on! haha
Bravo
Just wanted to say thank you for teaching me how to squeeze a hinge, just had a 6k front door installed and I could not get the carpenters to come back and fix the top of the door where it was rubbing on the jamb. I found your video and watched it a few times and then fixed my door… perfect. Thank you again!
Thank you for the video. Where is the river located?
Southern Oregon
where are you? is that murphy?
South of Ruch toward the lake a couple miles.
@@THISisCarpentry k your further down thanks
WHERE ARE YOUR LEGGGGGGGGS?????
Great project. Are you going to treat the wood?
Imi place cum ai lucrat. Sper sa-l revad intr-un video la fel de frumos peste 10 ani. Sunt curios cum va rezista in timp. Sanatate !
Framing might be fubar, but everything else looks great
ZipTape now makes a joist tape. It's thicker.
Very nice! No railings though??
Always enjoy your videos thx!
Thank you. I really enjoy sharing them...more sharing the experience/process than the result.
Great video. Thanks.
Nice place Sr 👌 and well done 👏
Beautiful spot to relax and let the days go by
This guy doesn’t strike me as a guy who lets “the day go by” 😂
Love this! What happens when a downed tree sails through and hits the deck?
It can't. The deck is protected by a rock outcropping that projects into the river and creates a perfect eddy for the deck.
Thanks for your information 👍 and video 👍 📹 I appreciate you
Man, the river is beautiful. Great job on the deck and steps! 💪💪💪
Nice!! That deck will bring a lot of enjoyment over the years.
Pretty nice rough cuts over the water! You were within 2” on those
this is amazing
Nice
Gary ! What a beautiful little deck with tons of work into it! Like a true carpenter/craftsman you did not miss a thing!
I have your books, and fell in love with finish carpentry because of you and your teaching skills!
Just a pleasure watching you work!
I honestly think several times every day how fortunate it is to be a carpenter. Imagine if you couldn't build stuff, I mean, nicely, enjoyably. That would be real suffering.
@@THISisCarpentry I agree my friend I am 62 I don’t really have to work ? But I just enjoy doing smaller finish jobs , doors, base, mouldings, some smaller cabinets !
One day I will probably just do a job here or there? But just a great job!
