never freeze on ekko unless u absolutely need to, ur a midlane roaming assassin, there a certain champs where you need to make the enemy mid sit under their turret as much as possible so your team can have access to pretty much a 2nd jungler. ekko's build path for multiple seasons now have been to prioritize clearing the wave as fast as possible
To add to what the other guy said, katarina also likes to roam - so if he just freezes, katarina can get free roam that would like outvalue the minions she loses. Another thing to note is that freezing in mid lane is not quite as valuable as freezing in the longer lanes like top and both

+ a kata can farm from distance with q while being extremely safe. so no point in doing it va a kata.
