Lovely to see you both again. Who ever built that axle was sure in a rush to make some fast and easy money. The owner can now rest assured that it will be perfect when you’ve done it Richard. Take care!
Richard, there are only a few men I could trust to work on my drive line. '97 K 3500 GMC. You're at the top of my list. I live in South Florida, you're that good.
There is always something new to learn from any of your videos and your many years of experience. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with so many of us.
I remember that cleaning out the tubes took me almost as long and the rest of the job when I redid the rear end on my 90 suburban. Lots of trash in the tubes all the way up to the seals.
I appreciate the call outs for most of the work done correctly on the rear. The devil, of course is in the details. Finding folks to work on these is getting more difficult as folks retire.
@richardteresacricheducatio3542 how do I get intouch with you guys? To work on my transmission. I had talked to Richard a while back regarding two transmissions.
I have done hundreds of diffs and can't count how many times i find the same crap. I spent 3hrs on a 2020 chevy 2500 FF rear just cleaning. It looked like the dealership had did something to the right rear hub an never took apart everything so it took out the bearing on the right side of carrier. It is sad that it is not very difficult to do one but time consuming to do it right when setting it up. Thanks for sharing guys. Be safe. Happy holidays
Well Richard, you're doing these spicer difs regular enough, you might just get a case spreader . Yeah, the pinion preload was non existent, so the pinion nut wasn't torqued nearly enough . They usually get around 7-10 inch lbs. preload if I remember right . And that carier was definitely missing a shim on the drivers side . But setting it up would determine pretty much if there might even be a thin one on the passenger side missing . Someone shouldn't have been left alone in the set up in the last attempt . I printed a lot of dif's years back . When people didn't think they were just replicable like spark plugs . lol I guess not many guys setting them up anymore . If I still had my old case spreader I made, I'd send it to you . :)
It'll be nice to know what the old ratio was. I counted 13 teeth on the pinion so I don't think it's a 373 because you need about 49 teeth on the ring gear.
I don't know if you noticed. The axle tube on the passenger side looks cocked down 2 or 3 degrees? I thought my eyes playing tricks on me. But the more I stare at it. That tube angle does not look right.🤔🧐
I like to check the clutches in the posi carrier before I take it all apart. I think the break away torque is 40 lbs for OEM clutch packs and spring(s)
LSD ? Pretty much becomes an open diff at what ? 30-40K miles? When those clutch plates wear. If you use conventional gear oil, add 4oz of friction modifier, I believe synthetic gear oils already have it added, limited slip needs it to operate properly.
Richard; have you cnsidered getting a lathe to work on drive shafts in house; r wouldn't that be beneficial for you & Teresa to do drive shafts in house????

He's definitely multi talented, but one of the best trans guys I know of . :)
You two are such wonderful people, I wish I were your neighbor.
Hey Richard it has been so long since I have seen your videos. Good to see you once again sir! Keep on teaching sir! Those are summit Axles sir!
I remember that cleaning out the tubes took me almost as long and the rest of the job when I redid the rear end on my 90 suburban. Lots of trash in the tubes all the way up to the seals.
Always a shame to see people pay good money for shoddy quality work. Enjoying your new videos! At least the Firebird will be done properly this time.

Glad you guys are back at it. Been watching for some time now.
Thank you for your support

Thank You! still Learning about Diffs!
Interesting video. Thanks for taking the time to film videos.
That loose bearing showing up made me laugh.
Actually found two more cleaning the housing out
What an excellent video on doing a differential! Thank you

The axles are Summit Racing. Moser axles will have the M on the end of them.
Enjoy the teardowns but I don’t see any rebuilds. When will we get a comprehensive build video? ❤ from 🇨🇦
Thanks again for a great video...
Thank goodness for that waste oil heater.....
Howdy Richard, Teresa and Annie!
X2
😎👍
My favorite part is when you are like maybe maybe not these are tough to mess with.
Just found the new site. Love your content.
My 79 Silverado with LS conversion, 4 60le w/3.73 gears, Yukon posi, runs 2000rpm at 70 locked OD
How tall of tire
that's too bad ... i bet they blew down the tubes into the pumpkin but didn't think to clean out that trough that holds material
just so sad ... those were all new parts and bearings and a little bit of inexperience in cleaning and setup ruins the job

Oh definitely pause track unit is supposed to be new put together, dirty, loose carrier in the housing

Gear oil is hard to clean. I use everything from diesel to dawn and still see sparkles (sometimes in my sleep).
Looks like 308 gear in the rear end. It has 13 teeth, on the pinion.
Hundred percent right
Your customer needs to take this video and sue the other shop to get their money back.

17:25 When you find something that works for you, you use it until it doesn't.
When you just turn the yoke you can't tell backlash because of all the slop in the axle shaft splines.
Why didn’t they put disc brakes in ?
You got one Moser axle and one Strange axle.
They are sunmit axles
That's an old rear end. They put new axel and brakes.
Them are definitely summit racing axes.
Nope.
Anyway I can ship you my 2004R trans and you build it to handle my 350 engine with 400ft lbs of torque, going in an 88 monte carlo
Those axles are strange. Not moser.
It’s a dial indicator not a dial caliper.
So are you.
