I also find that if you take a 3 level dip into master or all Rogue with Camilla she can crank out some pretty decent damage quickly and then finish up with Shaman, with her first hex being Iceplant because there is a ring you can get from Defenders Heart that doubles the bonus from that particular hex so that along with spell buffs and she is a very capable tank as well.
Also if you take a couple of healing hexes for Ember she can give you an insane amount healing spells per rest and then you just focus on fire spells and maybe a couple of buff or debuff spells. Really enjoy your videos and can't wait till the game releases.

You under-mentioned the effectiveness of animal companions as secondary frontliners I think. They add more than they might seem to. My current party has three (mine, Seelah's, and that Triceritops that squeals like a boar). The triceritops sometimes gets in the way but if I feel that will be a problem I hold him back and use him to obstruct the line to my backliners, making it harder for enemies to get to them. I consider persuasion a must-have, plus I find that, especially in Turn-based mode, Dazzling Display-Cornugon Smash-Dreadful Carnage + the ability to frighten the affected enemies is a superb crowd control method. It's among the best depuffs and defenses since enemies that are running away are not attacking, and enemies that run away open up a lot of AOO opportunities. I really think that at least one frontliner doing this really makes encounters go that much better and frankly has saved some battles that otherwise would have turned out badly. This video is more so about how to use your party members. Only one party member gets a pet with their canon build so I didn't talk about that a lot. I did mention that Seelah is the best frontliner in part because she gets a pet. There is no party member who effectively pulls off the persuasion combo with their canon build. It's too large of a feat investment. So while I agree it's fantastic I don't think that information fits in this video. I strongly agree about Animate Dead. Not mentioning that was a miss. Arueshalae is amazing and best archer. Wenduag is Best Girl. LOL
Nice review of the roles for playthroughs. You are correct that buffs (and debuffs) are a huge factor in the success of the party. Woljif only needs 4 lvls of rogue as Vivisectionist is a million times better in almost every way and the 3rd best class overall give him 16 lvls of vivi ... mirror image is OP broken and plays a big role when i run 2 AT ... some of this might change by the official launch but melee sorc, sword saint and vivisectionist are still the kings of pathfinder ... looking forward to your full playthru after release!
For Ember and Nenio, I am rather at the slightly other side of the room: The strong main focus as a Witch is indeed de-buffing, while Nenio is into Illusion and Evocation, which are two damage-centered schools. Ember can "also" use her fire spells, or later offensive Necromancy, and Wizards can do anything, anyways. Apart from, in Nenio`s case, Abjuration.
Between Greater Invisibility, Displacement, Mirror Image, and Phantasmal Putrefecation/Web she doesn't have many slots for really damaging spells. For Ember she definitely has access to some nice damaging spells but between Heroism, Greater Heroism, and Death Ward her available slots are more limited.
@@SlanderedGaming For Nenio: Personally, I would consider most of those as buffs, not actual "de-buffs", apart from Putrefaction/Web; Nenio has 8+ casts per spell level, Ember significantly more; so I am slightly positive that some space for their actual role(s) could exist. :P Greater Invis: Yes; maybe (0-2) Mirror: 1-2 Displacement: 2-3. Web: 1(-2) . - Fireball? Ideally, against non-resistent foes: 5 :D Okay, this assumes that the goal is to destroy/weaken targets from afar, and not to kill really everything in melee. But: Nenio, like everybody else, HAS to contribute to combat in some meaningful way; she thus NEEDS those damage spells, especially given her Evocation Focus.Playing with 3-4 party members, while the powerful full casters (clerics/wizards) sit mostly idle (auto-attack/ channel), is inefficient. For Ember: Lvl4 Enervation is extremely potent, Fear clearly worth a look; the earlier levels should already be covered with offensive spells. Lvl5 Wracking Ray is fantastic, e.g. On lvl 6, I do not believe that you dish out that Greater Heroism like candy for the party; there has to be at least some space for Hellfire Ray , to add to her whole ray arsenal, and all the other great stuff on this level. ;) And, obviously, even for Ember: A witch`s main focus lies strongly on Necromancy. Finally: A Cleric (Sosiel) can probably help out with those 2-3 instances of Death Ward, that are strictly necessary, if needed.
Just a quick question: can u respec from scratch your companion (just like a mod in kingmaker)? I'd like to use the companion already in the game so they might have their own storyline.. Otherwise I have to create my own companion to build my own party composition
yes you can respec them - the mod is called "toybox" and i have been using it for about 2 weeks and its f**king amazing ... you can also hire merc and bump up their core attributes a little bit to make them closer/more even with the companions ... on the respec it only starts at lvl 2 tho you cant change the base class race or skills ... well you can but right now it crashes the game when you do so we well see in the future
Yes I will definitely use all undead companions when I can. At this time I do not know who the full undead party is. Only two of them were available in the first version of the beta which is when I did my Lich playthrough.
You have to go at least half the game with regular party members unless Owlcat has significantly changed things. At the start of Act 4 during my Lich playthrough I only had two undead party members to use.
Without being to spoili, how good are Hellknight armors? I thought of death knight with Sorc + HKSignifier + Lich, using full plate and not getting arcane failure with one of the orders. If you make a Fire elemental bloodline bloodrider that turns into a Lich, and fight with a flail... Can It be considered a medieval Ghost Rider? :D
depends on what difficulty you are going to play on. If you play on normal or less than core then its fine but on hard and unfair they are not great ... Pallys are better in almost every way ... this paste is from neo "Hellknight Signifier - Armored caster weapon of choice. If you want your caster to run around in mithral plate, three levels of signifier are pretty key to eliminate the remaining 5% of Arcane Spell Failure. What you want to do is Sorcerer 6 / Dragon Disciple 4 / Signifier 4 / Eldritch Knight 6, since prestige doesn’t require armor proficiency in Wrath of the Righteous. A lot of other casters can also follow a similar template, except they will have to drop the Dragon Disciple 4 part." And for the regular Hellknight - they are just half of a paladin - meh better options if you need to min/max for hard or unfair but if you are just playing for fun then go for it ... also about 12 better tank options in my opinion
I concur with KineBuds, Hellknights are serviceable but at the end of the day Paladins are better as tanks. One thing to note though is HK's give much better CC than Paladin's. They can gain the ability to make every enemy they Demoralize become Frightened instead of just Shaken. That is a HUGE deal if you take Cornugan Smash and start Frightening entire rooms of enemies.
@@SlanderedGaming and the Hell Knight Armor / Helmet? I think theres an order that lets you Cast without armor arcane check as long as you wear hk armor. You can Splash 1 point of signifier and get that ability, and you dont lose Caster level by doing so
Guys, need some advice - i plan to play at release as an arcane sorcerer, do i have to take the lich path to be a good caster? I'm not an undead person (
@@GuatemalanJedi if you want to play chaotic good i dont recommend the lich because they mainly do evil actions. Like forcing your partymembers into servitude.
Builds are very strong on their own. Mythic Paths are used to make them Godly with the right combinations. If you are going Chaotic Good, Azata will allow you to force enemies to roll dice twice, increase spell damage, make ray spells target two enemies, and increase how much damage enemies take on a successful save. If you are going Chaotic Evil, Trickster allows you to do a Demoralize check on every enemy you start combat with. If you succeed they will automatically be paralyzed. You can also increase all the enhancements for items you identify by 1. So it doesn't help you become a better spell caster directly but the CC and buff effects you get indirectly make you more potent in combat. I have breakdowns of both paths on my channel that go more in depth. Let me know if you need more information.
Azata will be nuts as an offensive caster or party buffer. And don't forget, we're getting Gold Dragon path aswell which we don't know anything about... but pretty sure gold dragons are hella good casters.
I can't get over how nasty the Brown-Fur Transmuter Arcanist is. By far the best arcane buffer I've found. +10 to strength/dexterity at level 4 is NASTY, and it gets better from yhere. (A party of polymorphed dragons might not be via Le on paper but it's funny as all hell to look at. It goes great with anything you want to do.
a Dronk(druid/monk) that play thru would fill both buff and front line tank.(some after combat heals as well). The main flaw no charisma on your main toon.
@@SlanderedGaming straight slayer. I found a random build somewhere because I’m not the best at building them myself. Since I’m an evil lich she’s a staple in my party and I’m romancing her haha
I have an extremely hard time nailing down a viable party that I like. Because of the built in alignments and and locked in classes/feats for many of the companions, I’m always torn on what is something I want. Mechanics wise, I want one thing. Role play and story wise, I usually want something very different. Currently starting over on an Aeon play through because Lich is still unplayable for me in act 5. Aeon is going to forbid me from Camellia and I already had to drop Wenduag. I already don’t want to play anymore, as I find their characters more enjoyable than the majority of characters. Except Seelah, whom I love but wish I could build her just slightly differently
@@SlanderedGaming I’m not entirely sure what the deal is. I know I experienced no less than 30 crashes in act 5. I didn’t get very far, a little past the full transformation I think. It just kept crashing non stop. My pc tower fans were on full blast even on low graphical settings. I don’t have a state of the art gaming pc, but my computer handles acts 1-4 with minimal fan spooling. Mostly on large maps or something with the crusade management system, it’s not well optimized for performance I think. Too many things it’s trying to do o assume. But I also don’t know what the previous deal was either. I love Lich but I was starting to really get disappointed in some of the RP positions the game was forcing you into. Was really hoping to play out Ainz Ooal Gown but everyone abandoned me or betrayed me.
One thing I hope they change for release is the ability to respec named party members down to level 1. Not being able to remove the archery feat from Wenduag for example if you want to make her a melee fighter is a little bit frustrating, not to mention that some of the attribute distribution choices are...interesting. I also think the main character, from a pure optimization perspective, is better as a frontline melee fighter than a mage. I've found the spellcasting support you get from the non-mercenary party members is better and more varied than the melee options, particularly if you're interested in having a str-based character. Seela is fine but her reliance on armor means her touch AC is gonna be ass, Regill is in a relatively weak class and you get Greybor pretty late.
I am interested to see how this will be handled with the undead party members. When I played Lich during the first beta release you had to accept them at whatever level you got them and there was no way to build them up from level 1.
In Kingmaker there was ability to buy respec but it is expensive plus the cost increases if you do it multiple times. So if you're not into buying this for absurd amount of money there was a mod for Kingmaker plus one for this game that makes you respec for 1000 gold.
Oracle and Clerics have direct synergy with Angel. Beyond that honestly Angel is amazing so just about any class benefits from having it. I will be dropping an Angel build tomorrow.
@@SlanderedGaming nothing special, just +1 basic attack bonus for this single level. All you need from it is a bloodline availability - you can then spend your first 3 mythic levels to pick 2 bloodline ascendances (i.e. 20th lvl features of bloodline), which may give you immunity to crits, sneak attacks, paralysis and 2 elements of your choice.

also if you are min/maxing for hard or unfair giving someone 4 lvls of freebooter is really great ... i do that to wenduag and have her use duel wielding throwing axes ... its pretty fun and its still great on harder difficulties
@@SlanderedGaming its much better then going pure ranged fighter. I like 4 lvls of booter but she can also be a great hunter too or 12 lvls of slayer is good too or even judge or cult leader ... also duel wielding throwing axes is just bad ass to watch, while zoomed in all the way in turned based mode lol ... booter marginally more attacks per round and there are a ton of bow users already too
agreed she turns into a really great tank by mid game if built right and combo her with seelah as a bard is prob the best min/max we can get from them 2 on hard/unfair
Nice combos. Haven't seen Arushalae (didn't go far enough to avoid spoils). For archers i think Lann is better than Wenduag (though i make Wenduag a slayer so she gets the archery feats and sneak attack damage). I find Camelia very badly made, too little int to make a duelist... i either make her a slayer or ranger archer, i also made a try with her as a dex build bloodrager. I like Daeran for healing, didn't like sosiel much. I love the witch, won most hard fights thx to the slumber hex, and the evil eye and vulnerability hexes are great debuffs.
Wenduag is likely best off with dual-wielding Throwing Axes, and I also prefer Slayer; for Lann it is likely Shortbows > Longbows. Camellia is absolutely perfect as is; - after lvl 8, that is: Do NOT MC her. She is a complete utility tank. Daeran: Pick up either of Evocation or Necromancy offensively, with a 2nd Mystery, whatever the party demands; "even" he does not have to waste his life as a dumb heal/buff bot. :P Sosiel is a typical melee reach DPS, focus on his Glaive and his self-buffs; always use Enlarge Person on him. He is good, apart from his initial feat choices.
Camelia is great if you accept her for what she is. Check out my build for her on the channel. It's basically the same one I am using for her now and it is very effective. She's killing a lot of Demons during the Drezen assault. :)
Wait, are you saying Seelah is forced to take a bonded animal companion as her divine bond? Can't choose bonded weapon? If so, it's really weird because Seelah as the iconic Pathfinder paladin has a divine bond with her weapon.

The strong main focus as a Witch is indeed de-buffing, while Nenio is into Illusion and Evocation, which are two damage-centered schools.
Greater Invis: Yes; maybe (0-2) Mirror: 1-2
Displacement: 2-3. Web: 1(-2) .
- Fireball? Ideally, against non-resistent foes: 5 :D
Okay, this assumes that the goal is to destroy/weaken targets from afar, and not to kill really everything in melee.
On lvl 6, I do not believe that you dish out that Greater Heroism like candy for the party; there has to be at least some space for Hellfire Ray , to add to her whole ray arsenal, and all the other great stuff on this level. ;)
And, obviously, even for Ember: A witch`s main focus lies strongly on Necromancy.
No you can only respec to the level you got them…kinda annoying but it’s under stable why but 100% a mod will come that’ll do that pretty fast.
yes you can respec them - the mod is called "toybox" and i have been using it for about 2 weeks and its f**king amazing ... you can also hire merc and bump up their core attributes a little bit to make them closer/more even with the companions ... on the respec it only starts at lvl 2 tho you cant change the base class race or skills ... well you can but right now it crashes the game when you do so we well see in the future
@@KineBuds thanks, I will definitely use it. Lvl 2 is kinda ok I guess... I might wait a couple of weeks after the release just to be safe 😅
For Lich path, do you ever include the undead companions to take the place of the regular ones?
I was wondering the same. I had kind of planned on replacing most if not all of the default companions with undead ones if the game allowed.
Interesting, thanks!
My pleasure!
A lot of other casters can also follow a similar template, except they will have to drop the Dragon Disciple 4 part."
And for the regular Hellknight - they are just half of a paladin - meh
better options if you need to min/max for hard or unfair but if you are just playing for fun then go for it ... also about 12 better tank options in my opinion
I'm not an undead person (
I'd love an answer to this too. I want to make a chaotic good arcanist for my 1st playthrough, am I just going to be a subpar angel/azata?
Yeah I am looking forward to creating that build.
a Dronk(druid/monk) that play thru would fill both buff and front line tank.(some after combat heals as well). The main flaw no charisma on your main toon.
Take Daeran or Seelah with you consistently. They both level up Persuasion.
Usually prefer to run Camellia as a dual wielder instead, shields always feel like a waste. :)
I would do the same if I wasn't using her as an off tank. I don't want my main taking all the melee combatants on his own just yet.
Wendalaug with slayer talents in throwing axes are crushing it at level 10 in my lich
People keep telling me that's the way to go. Are you running a base Slayer or picked one of the subclasses?
@@SlanderedGaming straight slayer. I found a random build somewhere because I’m not the best at building them myself. Since I’m an evil lich she’s a staple in my party and I’m romancing her haha
Very informative, this gives me some ideas for my pt. Hopefully the game will release relatively bug-free…
Awesome! Glad you found this information useful!
Giancarlo Esposito is my favourite dnd player
Lich is still unplayable for you?!! The recent patch didn't resolve the issue? If my Lich playthrough gets stalled I am going to be so hurt dude.
What class(es) would you suggest as your main in an angel team?
Oracle and Clerics have direct synergy with Angel. Beyond that honestly Angel is amazing so just about any class benefits from having it. I will be dropping an Angel build tomorrow.
Actually the meta is any shielded fighter with a level in Eldrich Scion for bloodlines
I keep hearing people mention that class. What is so great about it?
@@SlanderedGaming nothing special, just +1 basic attack bonus for this single level. All you need from it is a bloodline availability - you can then spend your first 3 mythic levels to pick 2 bloodline ascendances (i.e. 20th lvl features of bloodline), which may give you immunity to crits, sneak attacks, paralysis and 2 elements of your choice.

I thought It would really be thematic as a devil to be a hell knight. i bet regill has some reallllly interesting dialogue then.
Absolutely I would love to see it. He basically is a Devil already.
@@SlanderedGaming yeah but he worships asmodues that is a devil god and the hell knights are his mortal agents. i wonder what he would say if he saw a devil turning into a demigod before his very eyes who happens to be a hellknight also. uh in regards to arshuelaue there is a vid where you have to drop down in the chapel area( very specific spot) and do a very specific puzzle to get a blessing from desna? you can look it up.
also if you are min/maxing for hard or unfair giving someone 4 lvls of freebooter is really great ... i do that to wenduag and have her use duel wielding throwing axes ... its pretty fun and its still great on harder difficulties
People keep mentioning to give Wenduag throwing weapons. What is so great about them?
@@SlanderedGaming its much better then going pure ranged fighter. I like 4 lvls of booter but she can also be a great hunter too or 12 lvls of slayer is good too or even judge or cult leader ... also duel wielding throwing axes is just bad ass to watch, while zoomed in all the way in turned based mode lol ... booter marginally more attacks per round and there are a ton of bow users already too
Personally I made camelia my main tank.
agreed she turns into a really great tank by mid game if built right and combo her with seelah as a bard is prob the best min/max we can get from them 2 on hard/unfair
I list her as an Offtank because to me it takes a while for her to fully tank whereas Seelah is good to go from the jump.
Daeran: Pick up either of Evocation or Necromancy offensively, with a 2nd Mystery, whatever the party demands;
"even" he does not have to waste his life as a dumb heal/buff bot. :P
Sosiel is a typical melee reach DPS, focus on his Glaive and his self-buffs; always use Enlarge Person on him. He is good, apart from his initial feat choices.
Lann is probably just the best but if you’re min maxing change him to something else after ki arrows. Ranger or slayer is nice.
Camelia is great if you accept her for what she is. Check out my build for her on the channel. It's basically the same one I am using for her now and it is very effective. She's killing a lot of Demons during the Drezen assault. :)
I keep hearing Throwing Axes is the way with her but I don't understand why. Also why do you prefer Shortbows for Lann?
I thought about respecing Lann into something Slayer related but it seemed so counter to his personality I couldn't do it.
Wait, are you saying Seelah is forced to take a bonded animal companion as her divine bond? Can't choose bonded weapon? If so, it's really weird because Seelah as the iconic Pathfinder paladin has a divine bond with her weapon.
No I am saying the bonded animal companion must be the saber tooth tiger. She does not get the full list of pets to choose from.
