I just want to say a big in general thank you for these builds. I play on very low difficulties (laugh if ya’ll want but I’m here mostly for story and cool character ideas) so I have just been letting companions auto level. I’ve wanted to start leveling them myself but have been overwhelmed at the thought and these are tremendously helpful guides both to use verbatim and also to get me used to coming up with my own builds. Also a specific thank you for Camellia. I used her as my tank for my demon run and I was severely disappointed in how often she got hit given everyone talks about her stacking AC (but that’s auto level builds for you lol) so seeing a good way to do it is really nice for when I use her as a tank in the future
Phenomenal video! I definitely need to respec her I took ward early by being greedy to support my two handed fighter. But that little bit of info you’ve given on hexes is going a long, long way!
Very nice build camellia is one of my favorite character in the game but i struggle to find a build to her so i end up sideline in her a lot so thank you for this.
I do really like her. I enjoy really gish-y classes that can get into melee or cast spells from afar depending on the situation. It's just too bad I got to a certain point in her character arc and had to make a decision and now she's uh... not around anymore.
I gave my Camellia one level of rogue roudy with accomplished sneak attack and the healing hex other wise similar. I was not sure at first, but now i love her as a tank healer and support caster
i've been using her as a healing tank tbh. my good characters don't quite trust her [don't know her full story yet but assume she's some sort of sado-masochist if not possessed] i usually give her a couple levels of either rogue/master of all or assassin. she is a great character and i like your build. i'll have to try and see how it works with my take as well. i tend to pick her mythic for spell casting so i'll have to work with that. great video sir as usual
I personally build Camellia around fear effects. I have other characters that can handle stealth, and if I am doing an evil lich playthrough Camellia is usually my front line tank. At 2nd level of Shaman I pick up Intimidating Display and I grab a couple of levels in Thug so that her successful intimidation checks will frighten enemies. I play in turn-based mode so having the enemy wasting an entire turn running away/back plus getting attacks of opportunity is a huge advantage in like 95% of situations. I play on a modified Core difficulty and Camellia is just amazing when built this way. Her buffs are amazing. Her survivability is amazing. Her damage starts to get really good with how she'll proc Outflank's AOO with her crits. The three skills that wind up being the best on her with my build are Trickery, Persuasion, and Perception due to racial bonuses and the added skill proficiency added by Thug.
My only problem with Camilla is the trickery focus, having 3 characters with trickery focus feels overkill...Focus Lore: Nature would be better for her because of green faith and it make her a natural pick for student of war prestige class since she never stop talking about how she got amazing education unlike us peasant
@@SlanderedGaming yeah I think its an "look how bad she is she don't even care about the god" to tie into the sacrifice for the spirit thing she got going on...But for lore/conversation its still kinda random like the trickery focus that should be an knowledge/lore because she dont shut up about how she is smarter or stealth for her jack the ripper cosplay
@Slandered Gaming Greenfaith isn't necessarily a worship of nature, it's more about revering the primal forces found in nature. As a shaman, it makes a lot of sense actually.
Good build. A couple things I'd personally change are take the healing hex instead of Evil Eye, her saves aren't that great for it and she can't really afford to pick up Chant until later to make it worth it if you're building her more combat focused. The extra free healing during the day is quite handy to reduce the amount of times you need to rest. I run around with both Ember and Camelia a lot and they can both use their healing hex and it conserves so many resources. I'd also swap Air Barrier and Battle Master. At level 8 you still have good armour with mithral chain shirts to allow her to benefit from her dexterity, and it's more important that she hits being a melee fighter. You have other spells to do what Air Barrier does until you get it at 10. Vital Strike is also more of a DPR down for her when using a high crit range weapon like a Rapier, I'd be replacing that with Blind Fight just for gaze attack immunity, or pick up Piranah Strike earlier to buff her DPR. Haste and Divine Power can give her extra attacks at her highest BaB, plus with her high dex and the Weapon Focus and Greater Weapon Focus she should have a good chance of hitting her 2 hits at max BaB if buffed, and the 3rd hit from the -5 BaB and it gives her more chances to crit. She also has the ability to give her weapon Speed which is basically haste until you can cast it regularly.
Actually because it's a build for normal that's why you want to take advantage of the fact most of her attacks will probably hit, because they'll have a hard time with that on harder difficulties .
@@zuloph I am not saying it cannot be made better, I'm saying that it doesn't really matter. You'll win the encounter either way, unless you did something really bad with your build, went in without buffs and naked.
For me Evil Eye is worth it even though she takes Chant late because I use it very strategically. All my party members should be setup to immediately light up the debuffed enemy even if is only for one round. Few enemies can handle that type of focused fire so it makes many encounters significantly easier.
As a spirit shaman, I would always build elemental barrage. It averages at max mythic rank 15d6 (52.5 damage on average) bonus damage per hit, a minute at a time, up to 20 times a day using all 3 elemental weapon enchants. With elemental barrage, you should maximise attacks per round and attack bonus, so definitely would avoid vital strike (elemental barrage isnt affected even with mythic vital strike). This is less feat intensive and much more damage than vital strike. Add in other sources of elemental damage on attack like firebrand or other weapon enchants, and this gulf only grows. Also, your attacks of the opportunity are limited to how many times AoOs are provoked. In most cases, that's outflank crits, spell casts and feared enemies running away. Combat reflexes, every ready and battle spirit is complete overkill. Honestly, with high initiative due to dex, she doesnt benefit from the flatfooted component of combat reflexes that much, and with battle master, she has 2 AoOs per round, which is probably enough for quite a while. Its not a terrible pick though. I dont think she gets enough mileage from AoOs to justify ever ready. Blindfight is extremely important if you dont have another ability to overcome concealment, and she doesnt. Gaze immunity is always handy. I would also always take mythic weapon specialisation if the option is available. She doesnt have the AB to use piranha strike effectively, so dont use this, but if you did want to, mythic piranha strike should also be taken. In my view, abundant casting should always be picked over enduring spells. A combined spellbook caster with extend spell can get round per level spells to 24 hours very late game, which is nice, but otherwise, you are just talking minute/level, 10 minute/level and hour/level spells. Hour/level and 10 minute/level spells are good for one cast between rests already, and 1/minute level spells only need a few casts per rest at most, which the extra 4 spell slots per level can easily cover. Having many more heal, mass heal, greater dispel, divine power casts etc is much more useful. If you really want to make extensive use of legendary proportions maybe it justifies the investment, but travel time still eats through your spell components even with enduring spells. Protective hex is really nice, but you cannot cast it on yourself. You would need Ember to do this for her.
All solid points. I am still really happy with my build but the feedback from several people makes me want to look at an Elemental Barrage build as well.
I like building her as an arcane trickster, start with lvl 1 shaman, then go some rogue and then generalistic wizard, which allows her to throw her rapier against enemies, and deal lots of dmg with the sneak attacks.
14:34 why can certain specialist spells only be put into the specialist slots, while others can be put in either the special slot or a standard slot? What determines this?
some of the specialist spells are on the normal spell list for that class, then they can put it in all slots, if its a spell from another class is your spez spell it can only go in the domain slot.
Tried to ask the net - NeoSeeker also has Air Barrier and Wind Ward on Camellia. Will assume that it must work the way you surmise; or if one is a flat bonus, and the other is more conditional perhaps they don't stack as much as overlap. So if one doesn't work, the other will. Either way it offers mitigation on resting if you've already used one of the skills. Also, Ghostbusters 2016 called - they want their new recruit back. Of course in this game there's probably something strange in EVERY neighborhood. I'm still stuck waiting for March. These builds do give me some outside the box knowledge to start with. Thanks for that. Also, nice to see a shaman be useful. (I'm partial to the concept, but in practice in a lot of games, they've tended to be all but useless)
I'm not a fan of Camellia, but I do like the fact that she provides a lot of buffs I usually don't have access to for the fist 10 or so levels without her. I prefer to give her trickery + perception tough, at least she can be used as a camp guard with high perception, and you can never have too many chars with perception anyway - Woljif is always on my party for stealth.
Thanks for these tips. I am in Chapter 3, my Camellia is at level 10 and yet I still do not know how to assign it as skills. I chose the Rapier for her as my weapon of choice. For the rest, I have some hesitation. Your video will allow me to choose. :) Having said that, I wonder if I'll keep her on my team given her personality.
Ditch last 3 levels. take 3 in loremaster. You can take imp imp Crit for fighter trick and Greater Vital for rogue trick. You can skip Imp vital with this and regular vital with this. :). Nets you two feats for even more damage. Also those wind buffs, don't stack for 100%. but they both work at same time for 50% check and then another 50% check. Instead of evil eye, fortune is amazing.
I have been following this build all the way up to level 9 but for some reason Air Barrier isn't lasting longer than an hour is there something I'm doing wrong? or anyone else having issues?
Second comment. Would like to see vital strike vs normal attacks when enemy is already in full attack range. I only find vital strike to be useful when she needs a full move action to position. Maybe I’m wrong? (Of course a normal full attack is preferred when she is surrounded and needs to finish off a low health opponent.)
Because Camellia get's a lower attack bonus she will cap out at 3 or 4 attacks unlike other characters who can get as high as 6. That's moreso the comparison I was making when choosing to go with Vital Strike.
Those wards tech equil a 75% bonus to stopping arrows as the stack but aren't added to each other. I personally would like to see some hard/unfair builds i feel like it makes you take into account way more feats instead of just atacking the melee weapon feats.
Hmmmm I feel the opposite. There's a very small list of playstyles that are actually viable on Unfair so I feel much more stifled as far as what builds to make. If this was for unfair a bunch of feats would probably be dedicated to Monk AC stacking.
@@SlanderedGaming i dont know about that I feel like there are plenty of things that work, for a melee tanking character is a one level dip in monk good, yes ofc not only does it offer the wisdom to ac your able to grab crane style. I was more meaning for your odd level feats on normal you will never see Iron will, great fort, steelhide, elven immunity, combat mobility, diehard, back to back among the other teamwork feats other than outflank, dazzling display, shatter defenses and on and on even into ones that would be for a niche fight as opposed to normal where weapon focus, weapon spec, imp crit, imp imp crit, weapon finesse and then all of the toggle ability like rapid shot are all you need on easier modes.
14:04 barkskin consistently is a dead spell for me because it conflicts with amulets and rings of natural protection and results in a a non stacking bonus. even though natural armour is supposed to stack.
Like Ershin mentioned since her neck slot is locked Barkskin is great for Camellia. For other party members I like using Barkskin because then their neck slot can be decided to other items that increase their damage or survivability.
Camellia makes for a decent enough summoner, if you spec her that way. - I have some larger issues with - the bad - implementation of Crits on Vital Strike: Those are NOT multiplied, Owlcat; getting 500+ damage out of a single standard attack roll is in fact NOT the idea of Vital Strike. For this, and many other, reasons, I personally use Tabletop Tweaks, which fixes a whole bunch of severely broken stuff; - it also means that Vital Strike on a Crit build, like Camellia, makes only very little sense.
I think with nature second spirit she can get a hex that allows her to summon animals as a quick action. I agree that vital strike sucks on her since she's using a rapier which doesn't have high base damage rolls. Also you probably want to trigger elemental barrage often as possible so 1 attack per round doesn't seem very appealing
@@SlanderedGaming Am trying a Hag melee right now on core n struggling vs Water ele...if had full party ok but its getting through ac 22 or so... Maybe hag is a bloody shag n there are better natural attackers..
Why bother with wind ward when protective luck gives double rolls for melee AND ranged? Also, fortune so late? The holy Trinity of hexes is protective luck, fortune and cackle (chant for shaman) which you can give to your entire party and extend indefinitely tight when you enter a dungeon. It gives you 2 rolls per attacks, skill checks, saves and make every attack against you roll twice and take the lowest.
As for stacking, it might be true. I tested, and hexes from shaman and witch stack. So you can get double protective luck and enemies need to roll 3 times and use the lowest for example.
@@SlanderedGaming you can cast them before the fight and then chant to extend them basically to infinity if you wish. Then you fight with both on and camelia free to do other stuff like poke enemies with her weapons
A cam build that skips Elemental Barrage? A bold choice to leave that on the table considering how easy it is for her to use it multiple times per turn.
I also found it useful to abandon stealth on her since stealth is not very useful in general (other than to get surprise rounds and you don’t need to have very good stealth for that) and go with perception instead. With her high wisdom, this makes her adept at finding the traps as well as disarming theme
Perception is always a strong choice but I like Stealth because that ensures you can skip surprise attacks while traveling on the global map. Dealing with being interrupted by those battles back to back annoys the crap out of me.
Her AC stacks so high I probably didn't feel like she needed it. Now that there have been quite a few patches I'll be updating many of these old builds.
i really don't like how owlcat gave us Camellia. Because she's a spirit hunter, she's locked into the Battle mystery, which gives her a lot of spells that are great for STR based characters. But they chose to give her a 19 Dex out of the box. So it feels like some of the spells u get from the battle mystery go to waste or have to be cast on someone else. It's almost a requirement to give her a second mystery. I'm also not a fan of most of the hexes. they feel really weak and often fail on higher difficulties when the saves start getting insane. I'm in Act 4 on Core, and i'm constantly fighting mobs with 24+ on all saves, bosses have saves in the 30's. Since Hex DC's are based off CHA instead of WIS, other than Evil Eye, Her hexes also just go to waste yet again. You can tell Owlcat wants ppl to play her to a very specific play style but don't want to tell u what that playstyle is because they don't want players to feel trapped into a single build... then players still feel trapped into a single build anyway...
Camellia overall just isn't one of my favorite companions. Not having max BAB means she'll always be behind others in terms of offense, and her casting isn't strong enough to make up for it. I also dislike her class and how micromanaging it is. It's one thing to cast full buffs after each rest, but doing it before every battle makes it a slog. It's especially terrible with Cam because she has so many 1 round/level buffs, which will never last long enough for enduring spells to work with.
Nope... Don't like her. Build wise sure she can work, but story wise? Nope nope nope! I don't find fem Patrick Bateman to be a compelling character to have
wouldnt work at core + difficulties. You cannot make a class with low b.a. bonus, random stats allover place, a melee fighter. You will hit nothing, but good guide for beginners still.
@@SlanderedGaming For starters when you you get her she doesn't come with trickery and stealth anymore, it's trickery and mobility, secondly you can't pick up her ring as soon as you get to the tavern as even if you loot everything you can possibly get and sell everything you don't use you're gonna be about 4000 gold short of buying her ring when you get there and it takes doing most of the city and sell most of it to get it within the 3 day limit.
Eh, have to say she's extremely weak as a spirit hunter on Hard/Unfair. She makes a much better winter witch with all +cold damage description items such as light shield, made, ring etc(got a build where she has nothing but cold ice strike selective/empowered & heigthen) and she does 150-250 dmg aoe per cast
Nah shes insane as a spirit hunter on hard at least. She is basically unkillable and nothing can break contact with her or they get messed up pretty bad since shes so big she can hold contact from VERY far away.

Because Camellia get's a lower attack bonus she will cap out at 3 or 4 attacks unlike other characters who can get as high as 6. That's moreso the comparison I was making when choosing to go with Vital Strike.
2 levels of spitit hunter, 8 levels Slayer/Executioner and 10 levels of assassin. I call the build not stabby :D
All of that is definitely inline with her character.
Natural armor does stack but Natural Armor Enchantments only go to +5 and don't stack
It's good for her since her amulet slot is locked.
Like Ershin mentioned since her neck slot is locked Barkskin is great for Camellia. For other party members I like using Barkskin because then their neck slot can be decided to other items that increase their damage or survivability.
Camellia makes for a decent enough summoner, if you spec her that way. - I have some larger issues with - the bad - implementation of Crits on Vital Strike:
Those are NOT multiplied, Owlcat; getting 500+ damage out of a single standard attack roll is in fact NOT the idea of Vital Strike.
For this, and many other, reasons, I personally use Tabletop Tweaks, which fixes a whole bunch of severely broken stuff; - it also means that Vital Strike on a Crit build,
like Camellia, makes only very little sense.
Is Tabletop Tweaks a mod? Hadn't heard of it before I will check it out.
16:46 again i don't use the mass versions because they conflict with headbands or belts for some reason.
Enchancement Buffs don't stack but most of your party members won't already have +4 enhancements for all stats.
Could you use her as a shapechanging melee/caster? (So add some Wisdom)
I wouldn't say it's a natural fit but yup that could definitely work.
That's very effective but I feel like it would be very boring to playing with her basically casting hexes over and over during a fight.
@@SlanderedGaming Would this require maxing stealth on everyone? Or do you mean using Cam as the camp stealth person?
my magus aeon was doing damage like that. 25:35 i just felt invincible at that point.
Yeah Magus is a great choice for Aeon.
it's mostly undead and constructs which are immune to (most) mind affecting spells/powers
Ahhhhh yeah that makes sense.
If you put two elements on a weapon with her a single hit will activate elemental barrage mythic ability
Honestly that was something I never considered but multiple people have brought it up. I will definitely play around with that.
The worst part was that for me "its ok, i will respect them later" and that moth!@#$+ died 😆
😂
I think she can cast the most spells out of any non-spontaneous caster, with the exception of the Thassilonian Specialist.
She definitely has a lot of versatility.
why no dodge?
Yeah it's kind of a weird mix. I think there is versatility in her build but it's not intuitive especially compared to other party members.
Why it stacking?! Ench from shield with ench buff, magical vestment with no armor lol - its just ridiculous.
Use object bond for 2. casting of magic vestment, problem solved :P
Yup I completely missed that.
I went the lazy way and built her 1 spirit hunter 19 psychokinecist :P
LOL Nice!
Camellia overall just isn't one of my favorite
companions.
Yeah she is definitely not everybody's cup of tea.
The spirits guide her.
You gotta have elemental barrage with a spirit hunter!
Multiple people have provided this feedback. LOL I'll try that out and I might do another build with her to show a different way.
shes a buffer for me but makes more sense as a duelist/rogue thematically who talks with spirits lol
Nope... Don't like her. Build wise sure she can work, but story wise?
Nope nope nope! I don't find fem Patrick Bateman to be a compelling character to have
You can bound vesments so technically she has 2 casts.
Yup that was a miss on my part.
you skipped mthinc lvl 1
No I cover it at 6:56. :)
wouldnt work at core + difficulties. You cannot make a class with low b.a. bonus, random stats allover place, a melee fighter. You will hit nothing, but good guide for beginners still.
True I do not make Hard or Unfair builds.
Can someone edit the amazed guy with the huge open mouth vid into the part where we learn that this video was made in unfair ?
😂😂
There are parts of this video that are obsolete and contain misinformation.
What part is supposedly misinformation? This build was made a year ago so it's absolutely possible that parts of it are obsolete now.
I give her MW at level 5, to equip better Shields and Carrapace and then 19,20 MW again to get Mutagen and more feats. Mobility rank 3.
My build
2 - Iceplant
3 - Weapon Focus Rapier
4 - Hampering Hex (AC penality stacks with Evil Eye)
5 - Mutation Warrior - Shield Focus, Dodge
6 - Spirit Hunter again
7 - Outflank
9 - Battle Master, Weapon Specialization - Rapier, Pirranha Strike
11 - Protective Luck, Improved Critical
13 - Chant, IUA (fist feat)
15 - Crane Style
17 - Fortune, Greater Weapon Focus - Rapier, Crane Wing
19 - Mutation Warrior - Crane Riposte, Combat Expertise
20 - Mutation Warrior - Mutagen
Mythic
1. Unrelenting Assault
2. Mythic Finesse ( To get DEX to damage with Shields and not be limited to Bucklers)
3. Enduring Spells
4. Mythic Weapon Focus
5. Greater Enduring Spells
6. Mythic Pirranha Strike
7. Second Spirit - Waves (to get Seamantle)
8. Weapon Specialization Mythic
9. Last Stand (just in case crit takes her)
10. Mythic Dodge (really whatever)
Nice that definitely makes sense. I didn't pay much attention to Seamantle, I'll take another look at it.
Камелия умерла в подвале, не место предателям в отряде)
😂😂
Eh, have to say she's extremely weak as a spirit hunter on Hard/Unfair. She makes a much better winter witch with all +cold damage description items such as light shield, made, ring etc(got a build where she has nothing but cold ice strike selective/empowered & heigthen) and she does 150-250 dmg aoe per cast
Nice that is awesome.
Nah shes insane as a spirit hunter on hard at least. She is basically unkillable and nothing can break contact with her or they get messed up pretty bad since shes so big she can hold contact from VERY far away.
I hated Cam so much i gave her a generic build. The way she talks to Ember was the last straw.
