    This is really useful for slower devices (100Mb) such as cameras and TV boxes. However, it will limit you to 100Mb as these passive splitters take away 2 of the 4 pairs. All 4 pairs are needed for gigabit. You can do POE with gigabit using most active POE injectors/splitters with 802.3af or 802.3at, but it is a little more pricey.

      @@juanherrera2458 usually you have up to 100m. But in this case it seems that you meed a 'poe extender' in the imidle of the cable

    •  2 года назад

      I mean aren‘t most contracts 100 Mbps anyways? Yes, here we have 10 Gbps but many people still have 100 Mbps contracts because of price or availability.
      I have 1 Gbps (more isn‘t available), but for 5G I only have 100 Mbps because 5G without speed throttling costs like 3 times as much.

      @@Behfor I imagine you could use a 'poe extender' in the middle of the cable

    •  2 года назад

      If it‘s some small AP (there are those that can be hidden behind paintings or inside lamps) it will probably work with a proper AWG24 cable.
      With a WG24 cable over 80m, you will have a voltage drop of about 25% at 200mA and 12V. This usually goes fine because the APs end up stepping down the voltage anyways.

    Hi....I am trying to power an ASUS wifi access point with POE using a POE inverter and then an POE splitter. So similar to your video. How to I make sure the POE splitter outputs enough DC power to power up the ASUS router?

    • @Behfor
      @Behfor  2 года назад

      Hi, well I think as long as you use the right power adapter and don't use an Ethernet cable longer than what's recommended by the power splitter, you should be fine! I have powered on a wireless router this way but the Ethernet cable was only a couple of meters! So that will depend pretty much on the length of Ethernet cable and the power adapter!

    • @bobvo2625
      @bobvo2625 2 года назад

      @@Behfor Thanks! I am thinking "passive" POE is the way to go. I have about 20 meters give or take. With passive POE, my understanding is the POE dongles will pass the current/power from the routers DC power supply output to the DC cord output on the POE splitter. So I do not need to worry much about the voltage and amp spec since its passing through. As long as I can get he correct DC input/out connector physical specification, it should work. Having trouble getting the physical spec of the DC output cord from ASUS but I will try again.

    How many meters RJ 45 cable length can easily provide poe by this method because 12v might be reduce the voltage if I increase the cable length. Thanks sir

    • @Behfor
      @Behfor  3 года назад +2

      Hi, according to the manufacturer, up to 30 meters. Thanks.

    •  2 года назад

      Depends on voltage, current and load. For the typical 12V/1A router with AWG26 wire, it‘s about 30m, but you can go as far as 100m with AWG24 wire and a load of 200mA at 12V, but at the PoE end you‘ll have a voltage of 10V (for most APs it‘s in the voltage range).

    can it provide power supply from router to modem also???????

    • @Behfor
      @Behfor  6 лет назад

      Yup I just tried it and it worked for me, just not sure how useful that can be! As long as the connectors match and the voltage and current is within the supported range of the PoE injector / splitter, it should work fine.

  • @KevinSolway
    @KevinSolway 5 лет назад +2

    Is there any difference between poe and non poe splitter and injector

    • @LuisGonzalez-lg3xy
      @LuisGonzalez-lg3xy 3 года назад

      I imagine the injector adds power to the cat cable, and the splitter simply separates power from data, both already available in the cat cable. Already available in the cat cable because you injected at the other end the power. splitter goes on the consumer end (i.e. camera) injector goes on the provider end (i.e. router)

    Very helpful, very well done, thanks. Two things to think about for v2: 1) ditch the distracting "music" and 2) include a chart/static drawing that shows the connections. Confess I got a little lost between the splitter and injector, modem and router. A picture's worth a thousand words, they say.

    Hi Behfor, do you have any solution for this problem: how to reboot router remotely when it is hung?

    • @Behfor
      @Behfor  Год назад +1

      Hi, if by hung you mean the router's web interface or CLI doesn't even load, then remotely accessing the router is not going to help.
      The only other way that I can think of is to use a smart plug for the router and remotely turn the smart plug off and on, but this requires an internet connection, and if the router is down and there is no internet, then this would not work either. So I guess the answer is unfortunately I don't know how this could be done. Sorry!
