- Cleaning up after some other litter pickers who abandoned their bags along the Grand union canal, causing rubbish to pile up. I don't think I've seen the last of this, unfortunately :/

A coin deposit system is needed, in Quebec it is now 10 cents for a soda can... honestly though I don't know how you cope.

A bottle deposit would solve a lot of the problem. In New York City the “canners” make a living from returning bottles and cans. #flawlesscleaning Flawless Cleaning has cleaned public pathways in the past. Might be worth your time to get in touch with them.
I find it fascinating how people even manage to litter so much there, over which period is this since last clean?
Welcome to Britain - the dirty man of Europe. That’s pretty much everywhere up and down the county, no mater where you go, people treat planters, bushes, green spaces and everything around as a bin. Absolutely zero awareness and respect, just happy to live in all that mess. Not sure if there’s any solution to this, the government policies are non-existing and zero prospects of introducing any real changes to education/awareness campaign.
In the summer time, I could fill a bag every half mile along the canal EASY, I reckon
Trash cans would look more attractive than bags hanging and might be used more ,get green ones ro blend in with the foliage .s Davis USA
You should show when the council comes to pick up the rubbish that you have collected. It’ll make the story complete.

I miss your green bike. It was a great tool for your community efforts. I wonder if the company has a graveyard of bikes so you could cobble together one goodun for yourself. Might be worth considering.

@@chilli_pips I am surprised, so much litter in your country. Overhere in The Netherlands we don’t have so much litter. Glass and plastic Bottles, cans, they all have deposit. That saves a lot of litter on the streets.
@@EpicR_NLwe went on holiday to The Netherlands last year and commented on how clean and tidy it was. The UK is awful for littering 😔

Yea, as Jay said, I went back to it one day and someone has lit a fire in there; It's right under a tree in a densely packed area of other trees, and it was the driest part of summer, so there was no way I wanted to risk that happening again! That really annoyed me tbh :/

What happened to your makeshift bin? That was a great idea and it was obviously working
His bin was set on fire so he removed it to prevent it happening again and creating a bigger fire

No doubt the head of the council is on £150 000 for leaving the mess uncleaned
Honestly don't really blame them for giving up ..Some areas just don't give af about the efforts people go through to keep places clean and just spit in our faces by throwing rubbish everywhere.... Made me give up street cleaning tbh...got fed up with the sheer scale of disregard and even people using abusive behaviour for trying to help their community.... Won't do that again unless it involves a decent wage pm lol
Fair play! I obviously only do litter picks 2 days max out of the week, so to do it full-time is another level!
